This is the first book of the Corcoran series, that I read. Even though it's my first time to read any Helen Kay Dimon authored book, I loved it with all my heart. I got this book in a Good reads giveaway. Upon receiving the book, I thought that this would be some kind of sizzling boy-saving-girl from bad guys kinda book. But I was proved wrong, although it was a boy-saving-girl kind of book, but the story was super-thrilling!! It totally blew my mind, and this book made me a complete Helen Kay Dimon's fan. now I'm ordering her other books of this series. Every scenes, every details, every adventures, every cold-blooded killings, left me speechless. I never thought this boy-saving-girl type of books can be so much interesting and gripping! Oh wow! not to forget, Ben and Jocelyn's hot brewing chemistry in every pages, which really left me wanting more to happen between this couple!I'm really a big fan of Ben's character, of how he puts his life at risk to save Jocelyn, even though he knew so little about her. His trust, his guts, his heroic skills, and not to forget, his hot looks, everything makes me fall for him. Even Jocelyn wasn't like all those girly characters, she is strong, brave, and of course she can stand up for herself, but it was because of Ben that the whole Corcoran team cocooned her as a protective shield! In a nutshell, this book, will keep you on your edges, and make you want more! Go ahead, get a slice of this hot adventure in your life!!
Fast paced and intense story. Ben is trying to get his life back on track. After exposing the corruption of his former boss, many people considered him a traitor. He left NCIS to go work for the Corcoran Team instead. During an early mission he met Jocelyn and was drawn to her. After several tries he finally got her to say yes to a date with him. At the end of the date he rescued her from an attack, and another one the next day. He is determined to keep her safe and find out who is behind it and why.
I really liked both Ben and Jocelyn. Ben has been punished for doing the right thing and is still trying to come to terms with what it means for his life. He has found acceptance and a career worth having with the team. But he is still dealing with the emotional wounds of peoples' attitudes toward him. It causes some insecurities in him, though I found it only made him more appealing to me. A hint of vulnerability in a guy like him makes him irresistible. I loved his persistence in trying to get Jocelyn to go out with him. One of the things I liked best about Ben was his support of Jocelyn and his understanding of her own issues. I loved that he always had words of support and encouragement for her. He falls hard for her, but is afraid of bringing more danger to her because of what he does.
Jocelyn had come to Annapolis to escape the memories of her previous life. She keeps a pretty low profile, especially when it comes to men. It takes her a long time to say yes to dating Ben because she has some major trust issues. When he rescues her from her attackers and continues to protect her, she begins to see the differences in him. I really liked the way that she can show Ben that the people who have punished him are wrong and that she sees him for the good man that he really is. She is a strong-willed and independent woman, and while this keeps her from falling apart during the attacks, she also does a couple really stupid things that put people in danger. By the end she knows how she feels about Ben and isn't gong to let him push her away.
The suspense and action throughout the book is great. There is always something going on as things flow quickly from one event to the next. The bad guys are believable and the scenario is something that could happen. There were a couple interesting twists at the end that made the final showdown even more intense. I loved seeing how the team worked together. The respect for each other and their abilities is always there, but you can also see the friendship. I loved some of the teasing that went on among them. I'm really looking forward to Joel and Connor's stories.
I really enjoyed this fast moving, action packed book. I loved how close the team member were on the Corcoran team. They worked together in sync, never needing words to express what was going to happen next. It was like the team members read each other's minds. They are a team of men with specialized skills , that carry guns and know how to use them. They have clients that they protect. The team was more like a close knit family. If anyone on the team needs help the whole team is there to help, protect and support.
Ben has worked hard to get Jocelyn to go out on a date with him. She is a beautiful nurse. He never thought he would be protecting her from bad guys on the first date. The story had a lot of suspense to it. We didn't know if the villains were after Jocelyn, or if they were trying to hurt Jocelyn to get to Ben. Let's face it, Ben is in a job where he makes enemies that hold grudges. I loved the way the team members railed around Jocelyn and included her in the team because she meant so much to Ben. The relationship that developed between Ben and Jocelyn was sweet, and steamy.
**HelenKay is a personal friend, take this review however you’d like**
Another fun, exciting, thrilling read from HelenKay Dimon in the Corcoran Team series. Ben may have been fighting for truth but his former colleagues at NCIS were not happy when he uncovered that his boss was a traitor. He’s found a home with the Corcoran Team and possibly a new relationship with trauma nurse, Jocelyn. Ever since a scare drove her from her former life, Jocelyn has been trying to lay low but Ben works his way under her skin and she just can’t say no. After their first date ends pretty well, Jocelyn is attacked and Ben is able to save her. He’s now fighting to protect the woman he cares for and discover who’s targeting her and why. Really great, fast paced romance. I’ll admit, I would have liked a little more smexy times included but I believe because it’s a series book, they leave that out. I would recommend reading the other books in the Corcoran Team to better understand the characters but it could possibly be enjoyed as a standalone. Over all, a really great read!
In Dimon’s romantic intrigue novel, former NCIS agent Ben Tanner needs to redeem himself after being branded a traitor after exposing high-level corruption. When Turner saves Nurse Jocelyn Raine from an attacker, he finds himself thrust into his most interesting mission to date as he attempts to track down her attacker all the while doing his best to ignore the attraction growing between. When Jocelyn’s attacker becomes increasingly more aggressive, they take off running. Sparks fly as a secret from the past rises up placing them both in danger.
I liked the characters. I liked that Ben Tanner had his own story. Jocelyn Raine was a good addition to the group. The thriller aspects kept me reading. The villain is a slimy, conniving POS that tips his hand too soon, but definitely hateable as a villain should be.
My only quibble, and it's only a minor quibble, is this: Can't the team solve any impossible situations with anything other than cowboy-style shootouts? This isn't solely for political reasons. It just seemed like every time the protagonists went anywhere, it resulted in a full shootout, and it got old pretty fast. Luckily, the character's like-ability and perspective on the situations (they clearly abhor violence against innocents), and Dimon's demonstrating that these violent events have psychological effects on the witnesses, pulls the book from being too hypocritical in its message.
But most readers won't care about that. They'll want a good fast paced romantic thriller with secrets being exposed along the way, and this book definitely delivers that.
Very well written fast paced, suspense story intertwined with romance. The characters are well developed each with their individual traits that enhance the story. The plot is filled with twists & turns leading to a surprise ending. This is the first book that I read of HelenKay Dimon. I understand that there are more books about the Corcoran Team but this can be read as a stand alone. ….I received this signed book through a Goodreads giveaway. My opinion is my own. Thank you for the book!
The heroine is told that going to her job could put people in danger--so she just goes in for the morning. Oh, okay. I'm sure that the people who were held at gunpoint because of you appreciate your dedication (and yes, they're fictional, but if I'm supposed to care about this couple, then I'll care about the other characters in the book, particularly since none of them were idiots who unnecessarily put other people in danger).
Another corcoran team story, was an adventure and romance filled read. I was a little confused about Gary and his evil plot, his reason for going after Jocelyn, how did he know she had the information, etc. I really want to read Connor's story.
I won this book on Goodreads, and I was surprised when I received it, I didn't see it was a Harlequin. I loved the book, I loved the suspense... I wasn't able to put it down. Great book!
