Heidi Heckelbeck #11

Heidi Heckelbeck Is a Flower Girl

Rate this book
Everyone’s favorite witch is walking down the aisle—and whipping up a spell to save the wedding day!

Heidi’s Aunt Sophie is getting married, and guess who’s the flower girl? Heidi isn’t looking forward to the wedding, however. Her dress (with its awful ruffles around the neck) is super uncomfortable. Her brother Henry, on the other hand, can’t wait to be the ring bearer and carry the rings down the aisle. But what happens when Henry loses Aunt Sophie’s wedding ring? Will Heidi be able to stir up a spell and create a new ring before Henry walks down the aisle?

With easy-to-read language and illustrations on almost every page, the Heidi Heckelbeck chapter books are perfect for beginning readers.

This is one of those Heidi stories which feels really authentic. Trying to understand her role in a wedding means also making a lot of compromises, starting with the dress Heidi has to wear as flower girl. Being a little out of sorts is natural, especially as kids feel the weight of expectation on them when they're in a wedding like this.

When Henry as ring-bearer loses the ring, things go from uncomfortable to disaster. Heidi of course tries to solve the problem magically. But what if this problem is too big for a small witch to handle?

An excellent story about asking for help and learning to trust the adults around you.

I most enjoyed that Heidi Heckelbeck was a flower girl in a wedding for her Aunt Sophie and a guy named Ed. It was really calm and pretty and good, and a good moment. Her aunt was a witch. The book wasn't scary and not really funny, but they did do witchy things like make potions. There was a little mystery in the book too about her brother losing a ring, and they have to find it. I enjoyed this book a lot.

I liked that in the beginning, Heidi didn't want to be a flower girl because she was embarrassed to wear a poofy dress because it wasn't her style. She thought she would fall walking down the aisle. But then Heidi realized that being a flower girl is magical and special because not a lot of people get to do it. So it was a privilege. She ended up really, really loving it!

Adelle - 4/5. "Because the title was about one thing but there was one chapter that was about something not in the title. It was not the topic I thought it was going to be about. It was kinda confusing, but it was also a good book."

I challenged my 7 year old to get a chapter book and this is the series she has started with. It is perfect for her. Cute story and characters. These are new for me. I look forward to getting to know Heidi.

Heidi Heckelbeck is a flower girl for her aunts wedding, but Heidi is no normal flower girl, she's a witch! Along with being a witch, she's no girly girl, in fact she hates basically all things girly. She has to wear a big ruffle dress, carry flowers, the whole thing. Her family and her friends are all excited to see Heidi all dressed up. Her younger brother, Henry, was the ring bearer, and the worst thing happened, he lost the ring. Or did he? You will have to read the rest of the book, along with her other books within the series, to find out what happened to the ring and if Heidi had to use her magic during the wedding.

1. What is so special about Heidi? 2. I would give the children a list of 10 events throughout the book and have them number them 1-10 in the order they happened. 3. If you were in Heidi's position, how would you go about finding other witches? 4. Why didn't Heidi want to be the flower girl, and why did she make such a big deal about everything? 5. If you were in Heidi's position, would you throw a big fit about being the flower girl? Do you think it made her aunt upset? Do you think it was right for them to lie to the little brother about the ring?

Another quick entry in the Heidi Heckelbeck saga. This is an arc-building book to further the mystery of "Is Principal Pennypacker a witch?" Sure, there's a story about Heidi being a flower girl, but it's all fluff. I admire the balance struck between Heidi not wanting to be dressed up in fancy clothes and her ultimately loving her fairy-tale experience. For such a fluff-piece of a story, that seems to appease both the girly-girls and those who'd rather avoid the frilly dresses.

I liked the book because it made me excited to see what would happen to Heidi. She has a little brother named Henry. Heidi her Aunt and her Mom are witches. I every book she uses magic to solve problems. In this one she uses her magic to replace a missing wedding ring.

Just like Junie B. Jones, Heidi gets to be a flower girl. When the ring goes missing, can magic come to the rescue? Probably not, as the theme of this series seems to be that magic can not solve your problems.
