Touchdown

Rate this book
New York socialite Goldie Fischer seems to have it all: wealth, beauty, and a fiancé to die for. Until she’s murdered on her wedding night by a jealous witch and instantaneously loses everything. Angry and seeking revenge, Goldie becomes a dybbuk-- her soul possesses the body of Southern football hero Clay Harper and she refuses to join the light until the wrongs are rectified.

Only Clay has issues of his own and doesn’t take kindly to a petulant New Yorker in his head, interfering in his already messed up life. When Goldie promises to leave if Clay helps her break up the wedding between her fiancé and the witch who killed her, Clay reluctantly agrees. Only neither of them are prepared for the chain of events that follow.

Through the journey of two disparate people on a quest to make things right, Touchdown is a funny yet heartbreaking look about what it takes to truly know another soul and what it means to love.

3.5 stars rounded up to 4.

To start with the positive: this book is a cute, light story that touches on being true to yourself against what others expect, putting others before yourself and true love/soul mates winning in the end. Nice premises in these times.

It's a quick read on a day you just want an escape. I loved the way the story tied together past and present, it gave the story a bigger over all impact. What/who Goldie was came from something that happened long before she was even born. Was not expecting that.

Loved Mindy/Avner. So cute. I think they deserved more of the story.

Charlie. He made Goldie a better character when she was with him. We needed more about Charlie.

The dialog, descriptions and writing flow were smooth. Nothing worse then choppy dialog to totally screw up a book.

On the drawbacks: it starts a little slow for me and in the beginning feels a little all over the place as the author sets everything up.

Goldie I found... Bi polar. Sometimes I really liked her, others I just wanted to slap her and the two parts of her almost felt like different characters. There we too many times I felt that separation. She tended to do things that made me want to yell at her that she was an idiot. Yet we are told she was the one who kept her family together. I believe the former of Goldie, the later seems like it should have been Mindy's role based on who the characters were.

Would have loved Goldie's reasons for staying to be repaying her sister for keeping things together and keeping her on track in life. I just think there was a little role confusion in the story.

Sadly I wish there was way more in Mindy and Avner, I found them adorable and the most interesting draw.

Clay and Leigh were a sweet story, though I wish Goldie wasn't busy screwing things up so much at times for them without really even trying to mitigate her damage. In the end she was a positive for them, but during she was such a wrecking ball.

Overall:

I find myself liking the basic concept/story enough that i truly believe that just a few important tweaks would make this a 5 star book.

There were too many throw away transitions. There was conflict, but rather then really walking us through the resolution in some manner it was just suddenly, whatever. Role clarification, making Mindy a fuller character and Goldie a cohesive one.

I enjoyed this story more then I expect when I was struggling through the first bit of it (not a very big section). I would recommend it for a light escape read if you love romance.

I wasn't too keen on this book when I first started reading it. There was just something that kept me from connecting with the story and its characters. Perhaps it was the pacing or something about the way it was written, flipping between Goldie and Clay, but I just wasn't 'feeling' the book like I normally would.

It was only when they found themselves in limbo and were then sucked back into Clay's life that things really started to get interesting, I couldn't put this book down. The interactions between these two souls, and their reactions to the people and events around them was at times hilarious and at times a little crazy, which made this a fantastic, entertaining read.

Goldie is a strong, in-your-face character, and I loved her passion for life, literally and figuratively. She wanted to live so badly, she even contemplated living the rest of her years in the body of another person. Clay on the other hand was a little more subdued. He had dreams and goals, but was always putting them on the backburner for everyone else. It was only when Goldie pushed him that he really started to live outside the little box his father, his coach, his girlfriend, and the rest of his home town, had placed him in. I was happy that he had someone like Leigh who always stood by him.

It wasn't only the excitement of these two souls sharing one body that kept this book alive, though. It was the fascinating twist of re-incarnation and a love that has stood the test of time that really made this story warm my heart. It also held so many life lessons, and I'm sure everyone who reads this story will look at their own lives a little differently. What truly makes us happy? Are we living the life we really want, or are we living the life that is safe, and just makes sense at the time?

This was a really great, thought-provoking read that made me laugh, broke my heart, and touched my soul.

I received an ARC copy in exchange for an honest review.

Truth to be told, I don’t know how to start this review. Normally when I don’t like a certain book I don’t review it, but I have to in this book and that is so hard.

I had great expectations about this book. I thought that I would love it more than the bestsellers. The summary really got me, so I asked to review it. I have to say that I am so disappointed by what I have found. I know that the reason why I didn’t like this book might sounds too weird, but I have to warn you. I found this book so cliché and… sweet. Yes the book was so sweet with a boring story. I don’t enjoy sweet books that much. I like the books with more action and you know more bad boys or broken boys, it feels like I am reading a young aged book, but this one felt like I was reading a book written for my mom.

The whole idea of dying and then going back to earth in another body to do right is so cliché. I feel like I expected everything happening in this book and I rolled my eyes way too much. I found that the romance in this book was nice, way too nice. I love the romance to be breathtaking and well, not boring romance.

I know that I am way too harsh in my review, but I am just disappointed and I don’t do well with disappointing things. I hope that those who read it, find it amazing and enjoy it more than I did.

Alternating chapters: Goldie-about to get married, and Clay-start of the football season.
It appears as if these two don't know of each other but we hear about their past and how they will be come connected, somehow.
Goldie Fischer is a fashionata and is due to be married on Thursday. She loves to put others in their place and put them down and shop.
Her sister Mindy helps her to get ready. She gets a warning from a man in a white suit to be careful and not to marry Avner Ficklestein. This is the man from her dreams.
Their lifes do become connected as their human life forms come to a close but there not for both...
It's all about forever love.

This was a pretty okay book. The writing was fine and it had a few good premises. It had a slow start but got really interesting after that. Some characters were hard to tolerate but others were fun to follow. There were a few fun twists as well, some more predictable than others. Would I read more by this author? Perhaps. Would I recommend this book to others? Probably not, unless they're into the cheesy romance sort of thing.

Levy shares a humorous and poignant novel through the soul of a somewhat self-absorbed yet caring young woman. Levy's witty style makes for a quick read that reminded me of two great movies (Heart and Souls and Freaky Friday). Three and 1/2 stars.
