Another sensational outing with Agent Emily Slate. This book was absolutely a page turner and kept me wondering where it was going until the very end.

Alex has a way of weaving and tangling the reader into his web, and it is a delight every time.

I look forward to the next installment to see where this new arc is going.

A Best Friends Fear

Agent Emily Slate of the FBI is back in the DC office and recovering from her enforced time off. She went back to her hometown of Fairview and almost didn't survive her crime fighting escapades.

Emily is frantic because she still hasn't heard from her best friend and colleague, Agent Zara Foley since before she left. As Zara is working undercover, not hearing from her isn't a good sign.

Emily describes it to her therapist, Dr. Frost, like this: "It was like someone had carved out part of my life and all I could think about is how that piece was now missing.”

Under orders to work only light duty, Emily is severely frustrated. When she gets word of a charismatic leader named Simon Magus proclaiming he's going to create a new world as a large quantity of military grade explosives are stolen nearby, Emily is hard-pressed to continue not working field duty. She observes, "There’s an old Zen proverb I heard once: let go, or be dragged."

Unknown to Slate's unit, Agent Foley and Agent Crowne have penetrated Simon Magus's organization but have been caught. Agent Crowne is shot dead and Zara is given the "choice" to work for Simon.

Downtown Baltimore is the first act of Magus' plan to create a new world. The Bank of Baltimore, filled with people in the morning hours, is blown up. Emergency services from the FBI, ATF, National Guard as well as first responders try to cope with the disaster.

His Final Act is a taught thriller, replete with plot twists galore. Not only is the main story scarily exciting but Emily's ongoing mystery with her Mother's death and/or life takes another wildly unexpected turn.

Now is the best time to get caught up on all of the Emily Slate thrillers, as the series only has two more books to come. You won't regret becoming an Emily Slate fan.

An undercover operation gone bad

Alex has done it again! I think this installment is far and away my favorite of the series (up to this point). The tension and desperation as Emily, Liam, and the others search for Zara was all-consuming.

Zara is in her first official undercover operation, but her cover’s been blown. She’s at the mercy of a twisted zealot hell-bent on destroying the financial backbone of the US economy. Emily, Liam, Agents Sandel and Kane, as well as a small team from the ATF are tasked with finding the terrorist. But can they find him before he kills Zara?

Emily’s desperation was a palpable force throughout this whole book. She’s not realized, until now, how much she relies on Zara’s constant support and unwavering friendship. For a lone wolf like Emily, such bonds are exceedingly rare. Her relationship with Liam is approaching a similar level, but the thought of losing Zara is more than she can bear.

Emily is not a perfect agent. She makes mistakes. She acts impulsively. She’s driven by her gut. Does she always make the right choice? Not at all. But that’s part of what makes her relatable. Even if the decisions she makes aren’t the ones we, as readers, would opt for they’re still understandable and true to Emily.

As I’ve noted in reviews of prior books from the series, Emily’s personal & emotional growth is what keeps me invested in the series. And boy oh boy does she have some big revelations here. Watching her interactions with her boss, Wallace, and the two agents (Sandel & Kane) she thought were sent to monitor her & report back to Wallace, we see her take huge strides toward trust and accountability. All this while engaged in a nail-biting manhunt! It was stellar.

somehow the masochist in me enjoys these grueling slogs

The story and prose are stellar - it’s the oppressive mental anguish that wears on the soul.

But if I found the nadir too grim, I’d pick a different author, a different character, right?

Zara’s undercover assignment goes horribly, horribly wrong, while the recuperating Emily strong-arms her way back from sick leave, nose brace still in place.

Suspicions abound between the ranks of the unknown subject as well as the within the team tasked with finding the thieves/kidnappers.

Be Careful America

This book was by far the best in the series!!! It was awesome. It was thrilling...page after page. I couldn't put it down. Alex Sigmore is a great story teller. His characters are real. His stories are so believable. If you enjoy thrills and mysteries, you absolutely must read every one in this series.

Trust and Friendship

This book brings up the issue of trust. Who can you trust? Who would betray you? But on the flip side it shows just how far some one is willing to go to protect a friend. Throughout this series it seems that a friendship is more important than anything, even life and death. Enjoy!

Received as an ARC, this is an honest review. Everything has changed for Emily Slate, fresh with a new path to chase down for answers behind the letters but now she finds herself swallowed up by an on-going nightmare. Her closest friend and fellow field agent Zara Foley along with agent Crowne have gone silent during their undercover assignment and Emily fears Zara won't be coming home alive. And the new case that is suppose to be the focus of her time isn't helping Emily and her colleagues chase down answers regarding Zara. Simon Magus wants to alter the modern world... to something that's more "fair" for those being cheated out of a better current reality; and Zara discovers that her special talents are a boon for Simon to achieve his goals while keeping the FBI running in circles. But what Simon fails to realize is that Zara isn't is conned by his dangerous words as she utilizes her skills to undermine Simon's grand plan by getting a message out to Emily that's key to bringing a fiery and crazy man to justice. His Final Act is an intense, poignant story with a riveting and astounding conclusion.

Highly recommended.

I think this was the most exciting book in the Emily Slate series so far, and that’s saying something! In Book 10 of this series, Agent Zara Foley is on a mission of her very own while Emily is healing from everything that happened in Book 9. While undercover in a terrorist cell, Zara has suddenly gone missing and Emily won’t rest until she’s found her. Explosive, shocking, and action-packed, His Final Act is a fun, fast read!

Thank you @AlexSigmore for my advanced copy of this book. I loved it and can’t wait for the next one!

His Final Act is the tenth book in the Emily Slate Series by Alex Sigmore.
This has the vibes of crime thrillers that feel like binge-worthy TV shows, but in book form. Alex Sigmore has created FBI agent, Emily Slate, who’s tough, smart, and just the right amount of emotionally messy to make her feel real and relatable. She’s not some flawless superhero type - she’s been through loss, made mistakes, and still pushes forward, which makes you root for her even harder.
Each book has its own mystery, but there’s also this ongoing thread about Emily’s personal life and career struggles that keeps you hooked from one installment to the next. The twists are sharp, and while you might guess a few things, the author still manages to throw in curveballs that make you go, wait, WHAT?!
Well worth the read.
Happy Reading…

Emily’s best friend Zara is in the hands of a terrorist that is bombing financial buildings

Emily is supposed to be on restricted duty but her best friend Zara has been kidnapped and is being forced to use her talents to help the bomber and his cohorts.
Emily and Liam are being thwarted by the new director and are forced to work around him. She is learning the hard way to trust more of her coworkers and how to share what her gut feelings and what the hints from Zara are telling her.
One huge bombing with massive damage and death has the bureau going in the wrong direction but the hints Zara has put in the system tell Emily she needs to go the other way. And she needs to do it before Zara’s kidnapper learns she is leaving hints on his trail and he kills her.

This one was a good read that surprised me in a lot of ways. What really stood out for me was the friendship at the center of this story, best friends like this are so rare, and it honestly made me think about how lucky you are if you ever find a bond like that in real life.

I will admit, the pacing felt a little slow in spots, but the emotional moments and the loyalty between the characters more than made up for it. It’s not a perfect book, but it definitely left me with a warm feeling and a few passages I won’t forget.

If you’re looking for a story that celebrates true, ride-or-die friendship, this one is worth picking up.

Alex Sigmore has done it again. He has created an attention grabbing story that you can't put down. Emily Slate has a lot on her plate, but her best friend is missing while undercover and she is determined to find her. There is danger and detective skills put to work to find her missing friend. There is romance along the way. I loved the book and would highly recommend it.

Great read

Once again I did not see that ending coming or what was happening during the middle to the end. . I'm usually pretty good at figuring out the characters. But this author deffinitly has a talent of seeing me in suspense thru the whole time. I recommend this series to everyone

His Final Act

Sara is undercover and hasn't checked in for several days which leads to Emily going on a man hunt for a serial bomber, A domestic terrorist. They save Data and catch their man. Love this author and this series, kind of reminds me of J D Rob's In Death series.

First to read in this series and it held me captive! I read in just a few hours and have now read 2 more since. This was my fave! I had the same feeling of being on the edge of my seat like I do with Bond or MI or Bourne movies! Emily's character is solid.

No mystery series has captured me like this.

The characters are so human, so real…the situations are just on the edge but still believable and the action just does not stop. I’ve lost more than one night’s sleep Ales Sigmore and his Emily Slate. Hope there will be ten more!

Perfect thriller

This book really was a thriller will everything moving in the right direction the entire time. The characters are a little naive during some of it. The monster would have killed both of the ladies several times except we need them for the next book.

Super fine. It was pretty boring. Like and unrealistic. It was book number 10 in a series (I started at 9). And it felt wayyy too long. Like okay this series should have ended a bit ago. But all is well. It was fine.

Finally finished it!

Quite a book! I finished it and plan to read the next one, although I don't care for this marketing scheme, where one story trails into the next! There are still too many unanswered questions though, and this time, they interest me.
