Great textbook to study the Japanese language. Most people say it is only for class-learning as explanations and translation from a teacher are required (the textbook is written in Japanese only). But actually, if you get to read the "Translation & Grammatical Notes" textbook too, this method enables you to learn alone - even if not from the very beginning.
Minna no Nihongo 1 almost enables you to pass the JLPT 5 test, and with vol. 2 you can acquire the required knowledge to pass JLPT 4-3.
Dla początkujących może to być nieco chaotyczny i nieintuicyjny podręcznik, szczególnie ze względu na brak tłumaczenia (cały jest po japońsku). Z drugiej strony jednak ma w sobie wszystko czego potrzeba na początek, więc jeśli ktoś jest płynny w piśmie, polecam.
Since the book contains next to no english or romanji (translation of japanese writing into latin characters), I strongly suggest that anyone learns their hiragana and katakana syllabaries (a total of 100 characters that represent the syllables of the japanese language) before starting this book. However, it is as pleasant as it is useful to learn by, for groups, as well as for the self-taught.
The book contains grammar references, as well as everyday situations and cultural references.
I am prejudiced, anyway, the book carries the weight of memories.
Best Japanese grammar book you can start with. Clear, intuitive and simple. Useful bunch of vocabulary words every page. Furigana included above every kanji. Before this one book I was not able to make sense of Japanese, let alone express myself. I am very proud I started my Japanese learning with this wonderful book. 100% Recommended
It's very straightforward. It has different exercises to help you remember how to use the grammar and when to use it. It's quite helpful that it also has a separate book with the English translation and detailed explanation of every sentence pattern, vocabulary, and conversation. It is perfect for people who are beginners and especially those who will take JLPT. I passed my JLPT N5 and N4 with ease because of this book!
On one hand this is the most useful Japanese book out there. It has clear structures and the vocabulary is carefully thought out. On the other hand, if you are self-studying then forget it, also it contains a lot of formal Japanese you will not use but is prioritized, and it is generally ugly in my opinion. However, after using other books before it, I love it. So, I have a strange relationship with this textbook.
This book helped me grasp a lot of grammar and bonus vocabulary while being structured in a really intuitive way, so I was able to understand everything even though the book was fully in Japanese. Thankfully the book doesn't have romaji, so it gave me additional reading practice, highly recommended for anyone who already knows hiragana/katakana and wants to learn about basic grammar points (up to around N5 level).
As a textbook it's great - but here's the problem, my eyesight isn't great and unless the light is really bright I just can't read it. I don't have a problem with Genki, but the font in this is smaller and a bit messy and the paper is not high quality (so the print is fuzzy). Since it's not available in electronic form, I end up taking a magnifying glass to class. Not ideal.
This is a beginner's book for the Japanese Learners. I have refereed this book when I started learning Japanese and it was greatly beneficial to me. To start learning from this book, one needs to know Hiragana, Katakana and kanji. it covers basic grammar patterns, kanjis, sentence formation etc. It has good pictorial expressions and exercises to be solved on own. But to pass JLPT, this book is not enough. One needs to refer various books. Soumatome is one of those. Also refer to YouTube videos, JLPT study applications, own notes, flashcards etc.
English speakers, use Genki instead. This book is good in its own right but the explanations are lacking, perhaps in an attempt to please a multilingual public, however whatever it does, Genki does better. If you can study using English, then by all means go with Genki.
Très bon livre pour débuter l'apprentissage du japonais, mais avec un professeur. Seul c'est difficile à prendre en main. Il amène à un niveau entre JLPT5 et JLPT4, à compléter avec un livre sur les kanjis. Les exercices audio sont difficiles c'est parfois un peu vexant 😁
"i need to learn Japanese" it's the words that came up in my head while daydreaming in the workplace. i rushed to near second hand- bookstore in the evening bought this book and see how long my concistency last.
