To be honest, I didn't enjoy this book. It was a very quick book to read and I felt like there wasn't much of a story. I actually found it to be rather boring. Even though I read the whole book, I'm not really sure what actually happened - its hard to explain. This is the second book I have read by this author. I liked the other book (At Any Price) much more than I did this one. Even though I didn't like this story, it wouldn't put me off of reading other books this author has written.
I think this is one of my favorite short books ever. And that has to count sth as I´m usually not a fan of short stories. :P
I don´t want to say much about what this book is about, as this book is really short and can be read within a half hour or so. So everyone can make up their own mind about it quite fast.
As a Jane Austen Fan, I can say that I loved that this book was inspired by one of her books. I loved how Persuasion was worked into it and how his feelings and thoughts were "explained" with quotes- I think those were quotes.
I also loved how Persuasion was put into the "modern" world. The main characters- Mark and Justine. They were fine. I like their names. They fit into the "modern" world as well as into the Jane Austen era.
The Love Letter- Well to me it wasn´t really a letter. In my mind a love letter is more sth. selfwritten. But it was ok and his text message was kinda sweet ;)
Of course it would have been awesome to have their story more detailed and longer, but for me it was enough to like it.
It was my first Brenna Aubrey book and won´t be my last :)
The Love Letter is a short story, 20 pages long, and not that good. I didn't understand the characters and it was a suddenly everything works out and I don't know why. I know it has the Austen in it, but...I read it and thought that is it? That is all we get? It is that easy to fix everything and live happily ever after? Not my favorite short story as it felt like it needed more, needed to be longer to really tell the story.
I thought this short little story would be a nice Valentine's day read. And at 27 pages, what did I have to loose? I've previously read the "Gaming the System" books by this author, and loved them. This little story was ~ surprising. I'm not sure what I expected but this wasn't it. But it was still, nevertheless, very interesting. It's based on Jane Austen's book "Persuasion", and was originally written for a contest inspired by Jane Austen. It's about a young man, Mark, about to take the boards for his M.D. finals. He's having a hard time concentrating on studying, and, due to whimsical circumstances, finds himself thinking about a lost love, Justine, who he's never really gotten over. The story has an almost timeless feel to it, and pulled me in very quickly. I found myself unable to put it down, just as the main character was pulled into the story of "Persuasion" and couldn't get put it down. It was very well written, and to me at least, very intriguing. The only thing I didn't like was that the ending was rather abrupt. I was surprised and disappointed when 3/4 of the way through the book, I turned the page and there was no more story - only information about the author and other things she has written. I needed and wanted more story.
I think this short story does what it is intended to do, which is to be a marketing tool for the author's other works. It's a subtle romance which I didn't love, but I didn't hate. As far as I'm aware Brenna Aubrey is self-published and here she does something good for the indie community by showing that well-written, grammatically correct stories can come from self-publishing. Go Brenna! I will check out her other books, for sure.
Also, it was made very clear that this was a short story in the book description, so I can't understand the criticisms arising about it's length, especially as it seems to be perm-free.
This story never really pulled me in. I thought that I would love the story a little more. I just really wish that this sweet story had a whole lot more content. This book was nothing for me and I just could not get into the book. I only gave it an extra star because the little bit of writing in the book did not give me enough to love the story.
I don't really know what to say about this. I just downloaded it from the iTunes store because it was free, and I wasn't sure of what to expect. This was disappointing though; the story just didn't interest me. I found everything that was happening to be boring. It definitely didn't leave an impression and I couldn't really explain what happened if I was asked.
I absolutely adored this short story. The author showed such talent to create complex characters and give realistic story and character development all within such a few pages. I definitely recommend to lovers of Jane Austen. 5 Stars!
It was a good story change of pace for me I would love for you to write a book about Mark and Justine do they marry have children does he finish his test to become a Dr. Just to many unanswered questions.
what a sweet story filled with mystery, love and forgiveness. the characters of the book are endearing, ones you can picture in tiger neighborhood, or town. well worth the read
This short story did what it was meant to do (it was the winner of the Jane Austen Made Me Do It Short Story Contest), but judging it simply as a short story, I have to say it was pretty slight.
