Man Stuff: Devotional Thoughts on Faith, Family, and Fatherhood

Rate this book
Be a stronger, more effective dad, family man, and man of God. Described as a devoted family man, strong Christian, generous philanthropist, and passionate sports fan, Josh Turner is one busy guy. And despite his recording schedule, award shows, and national tour dates, a few of his biggest priorities in life are to instill good values into his three young sons, be a devoted husband, and be a strong testimony for God. In this compilation, Josh shares fun and meaningful thoughts and personal stories—ranging from his childhood years to today—and weaves in spiritual insight for men who want to be better dads, husbands, and men of God. He covers a variety of topics such as living and working with integrity, facing your fears, surrounding yourself with good company, trusting God’s plans, standing up for the least of these—topics every man can relate to and draw from to grow in his spiritual and personal journeys. This is a great gift for any Josh Turner or country music fan with conservative family values. Features &

This is a country singer I actually like, although I don't listen to him often. I first learned of him through his song, Long Black Train and even bought a CD of his once, I kid you not. I have the music and before my thumbs caused me trouble, could play and sing this on the guitar (for my enjoyment only--I love singing, but I'm no country singer).

There are parts of this book I enjoyed, for sure, but it was a bit disappointing since it seemed mostly on the surface and not as deep and thoughtful as I expected. None of the chapters are that long, so if you want a book you can read in shorter bites, this is a good one especially if you aren't cranky and looking for something ALSO, at this time it has been put with an author of the same name who is NOT the same person and I have never done this sort of a fix as a GR librarian. I tend to do the more simple things most of the time. This is because I have never set up an author page and don't even know if I can do it, but why on earth would anyone put this and his Long Black Train with an author of business books who doesn't even look like him? Sure, that's not part of this review, but I am in a ranting mood...

If you are living and breathing you have undoubtedly heard about Josh Turner, if not the man himself then at least his music. He has become a powerhouse in the Country Music field. His music speaks to the average person and reflects Josh's personal beliefs and faith like few others do.

But behind all that fame is a normal man that is a husband and father. In his ordinary life he faces the same issues of balancing it all that our husbands and fathers do. Through ninety short devotional segments, Josh gives you a peak into his world. He allows you to see how God has worked in his life in the good and not so good moments. He shares with you what his family has passed down through the generations that has created the legacy of the Turner family.

You'll be encouraged as a husband and a father to reach for a more meaningful life. The fame and fortune are all good and well, but if you have no one to share it all with what was the point. The book is simple in its approach, but make no mistake, the words and message are profound.

By the way the forward in the book is written by Jase Robertson of Duck Dynasty fame. Jase wholeheartedly endorses the book and his message about it and Josh in particular is very moving. This would make a great gift for those special men in your life, especially the young fathers. If we want our men to be who God intended them to be then we must support them in those efforts. This book is a great affirmation that the role of husband and father is the most important role that our men will ever have.

I received a copy of this book to facilitate my review.

I didn't think I could love this country singer any more, but after reading his book, I do. A quick read consisting of little stories from his childhood and thoughts on masculinity and community, "Man Stuff" is a good choice for anyone who enjoys a trip down memory lane. Or any female, for that matter, who enjoys looking at Turner.

After reading this book, my respect for and admiration of Josh has only increased. He is a great country artist and I’ve always loved his music, but to hear his dedication to being a Godly man, raising him family well, and living a life that brings glory and honor to God was such as inspiration. I love seeing people whose success hasn’t gotten to their heads and who are truly doing their best to live out God’s calling on their life in every situation, big or small. Josh is an inspiring man with a great message and his short book is well worth any man taking the time to read.

Favorite Quote: “A lot of my success has come from just believing in myself and in the talents God has give me, no matter what anybody around me is saying.”

If you get it to read stories from Josh Turner's life, you will be pleased. If you get it to use as a devotional, you will find that it lacks substance. A fun read nonetheless.

It was a quick read for myself and it was interesting to read about Josh’s upbringing in his own words. Some of the events in this book made me reflect on my own experiences with family and faith.

Overall, it was quick and easy read.

I do like how each chapter itself was like it's own mini devotional. With it written in that manner, you could really utilize this book as a means todo a nightly devotion with your family or even with just your kids.

It's written in a simple enough way that the message won't fall on deaf ears to a younger crowd.

As a Josh Turner fan, I like him even more after reading this to see how grounded he truly seems to be in his faith.... and yet as a Josh Turner fan I was left with wanting more.... more substance...more meat to his diary style entries of his struggles and how he overcame them .... granted he did touch on those but it was more of a glazed overview...I would have just preferred more if that makes sense.

didn't think I was going to enjoy reading this book when I realized how religious it was.... but soon realized he want pushing his religion on the readers but just trying to show how his faith had helped him through good and bad times. I read this book while going through some difficult personal situations and feel that it helped me stay positive when I could have given into all the negativity. definitely a book to re-read and would recommend it to just about anyone!

This a book worth taking time to read! Josh Turner is one of my favorite artists and this book shows what kind of man he is. He is a family man of faith who cherishes his family more than his career. His career has enabled him to have the platform he has and God has blessed him for it. Well worth the read, and if you get a chance to listen to his music, please do.

Josh Turner fans will certainly enjoy learning more about the wonderful man behind their favorite music! Josh recounts some of his life lessons and experiences that everyone can benefit from. Josh's wisdom comes from the heart, just like his music, making this an easy to read collection of stories that are easy to relate to.

A terrific book

I really enjoyed Josh's book on his faith and his family. He is using his talent the way Good intended him to...giving back to others and showing his young sons the importance of living a grace-filled life. What a book!
