CubexCursedxCurious is a fun light novel series written by Hazuki Minase. It is about a girl named Fear (short for Fear-in-Cube) who is a "cursed tool" and her human defender and fellow cursed tool who try to protect her.

In this setting, various devices which are used to harm others receive "curses" from the hatred of those they are used to harm. Such tools also cause harm to their bearers and this adds to the curses the object bears. Somehow, eventually, all of these thoughts and ideas absorbed into the devices causes them to somehow develop a type of "soul" or consciousness.

The main protagonist, Yachi Haruaki, has a special talent. Curses don't harm him. He is otherwise a normal human being. He can be harmed in the mundane ways any human is harmed by the cursed tools, but the curses can not affect him. Hence, on his family's specially-blessed holy land, he is able to guide and help cursed tools in their desires to remove their curses and become human.

Of course, there are those who oppose this work, who feel such creations should not be human, should not even be allowed to try to be human. They want to kill and destroy such sentient devices, and as the most powerful known cursed tool, Fear is at the top of their hit list. Other organizations we learn have their own agendas as well.

This story was fun but kinda went back and forth really quickly at times between light-hearted moments and some very dark ones. It seemed to be a mismatch of humor, a harem series, action, dark fantasy, and other elements all as one.

I have to say my favorite character so far is Kirika. She is an aloof girl who tries to do the best she can under hard circumstances and really fights for what she thinks is right. I look forward to more of her in future titles. She was awesome in the anime, so I can't wait to see her more.

Overall, a really fun story and a good beginning to the series.

I won't bother with the description of the story, I will just describe my thoughts on the book.

So the book starts great with the introduction of the characters and of their story. The setting is clichéd placed in a guys apartment whose parents are always away (talk about clichés). Then it turns out that he receives a large box, which turns out too be a cute teenage girl.
Also the main character Haruiaki goes to a, prepare to be surprised, a high school and his interaction with his classmates is again, prepare for the surprise, mainly with females. Talk about realism.
Also the both villains turn out too have some emotional trauma from their childhood (I guess trying to make the look less villainous?) and they are both hot, stunning females.
Disregarding all the clichés the story was rich and action packed, but only if you remove the fanservice chapters. They literally break the story flow. However I liked the interaction between the characters and also Fear seemed like a nice character.
In the end, I will probably finish the series, however it will take some time.
