Well, it's one of those books I wish I got to read when I was younger (of course, it wasn't published then!)
Even though I do not belong to the targeted age group, I should say I enjoyed it A LOT! I kept imagining the author (Nande Orcel) as Hamilda, which I felt rather sweet. I could imagine the mother in her weaving this story! (Moms weave the best stories, no doubt! :) ) My favourite character so far (though it is extremely difficult to choose just one) is Fajha! He's just the perfect student, with the right kind of attitude. Atakos is a little haughty but yes, born-leader! Cristaden is truly an angel <3 The twins Zimi and Zadeia are so adorable! Down-to-earth and lovable, can I just adopt them!? keke!
Though I had to take a big break in-between, I couldn't keep this book down once I picked it up again! I swear, I'm eagerly waiting for the next book in the series! Yes, there are predictable parts but there is something simplistic and attractive about this whole book. I can imagine any teen, or pre-teens even, picking it up and falling in love with it! My most favourite parts are when the teens are in Sheidem (before meeting Lhainna) and also, the Suthack desert part! Ha! Just give me the next book!

P.S. Thank you so much for this book, Nande! <3 You're absolutely fabulous :3
P.P.S I'm really curious about the printing ink used. It's so glossy...looks magical! The words seem to project themselves when read in low light conditions.

Book Review: Secret of Omordion: Nande Orcel: Mesmerizing Story and the Art of Storytelling

Interview of Nande Orcel in my earlier post, will highlight two things instantly - her intense and in-depth answers to the questions; and her magnificently glittering smiling face in every picture of her there. Her debut novel Secret of Omordion: Book One of the Omordion Trilogy was released in October 2013 in three formats - e-book, paperback and hardcover and all three did well in terms of demand and readership. This 384 pages book from Abbott Press a division of Writer's Digest, guarantees to take you to a flight to unseen land of never visited world of fantasy. Only regret at the end of this novel was that I didn't have the next part of the trilogy series to carry on - though I was desperately engaged in the story so deeply that I wished to have it instantly.

Nande Orcel has done a remarkable job in writing her debut Fantasy, Young Adult, Paranormal fiction novel Secret of Omordion which has everything you would ask for in such novel; and absolutely to a level of "beyond" expectation in all dimensions. The story is about five teenager's called from different locations of the country and were collectively named as Omordion's Hope.

The five teenagers - Atakos, Cristaden, Fajha, Zimi and Zadeia are called from their existing locations so stay away from their parents in an isolated state in far off boarding school to get groomed under the guidance of Hamilda, who once was the student of the same boarding school in her childhood, when she met with a tragic end of her parents. The purpose these five teenagers in the boarding school is to learn and groom their intensive powers within them under the guidance of Hamilda so that after 15 years they become capable and strong enough to take reigns of their country and fight against the enemies who constantly keep attacking their country from various directions to defeat and takeover the power.

And then all of a sudden one morning Hamilda is found kidnapped from her hostel room of the boarding school where she was mourning for the death of her husband who had been recalled back post his retirement to fight against the powerful enemy attacks and save the country.

The story has huge amount of imagination with no downfall in reader's interest by keeping it intact throughout. The characterization five teenagers chosen in Secret of Omordion by Nande Orcel is excellently and distinctly defined in such a manner that it takes a moment to align the name of the character encountered in the story and its characteristics. The five teenagers basically belong to Dokami clan and so does their teacher Hamilda. Dokami clan is supposed to be a derivative of people from various other planets with immense amount of various kind of powers and energies within them. That is what happens with the kids too when the start their hunt for their kidnapped teacher, they gradually keep discovering their powers and the linkages with their emotions.

Definitely Nande Orcel has made this story of Secret of Omordion so interesting to read and enjoy that it becomes relevant to what she wrote to me about the story - "I hope you enjoy the story as much as I enjoyed writing it". So true it becomes when things are penned down straight from the heart with a complete rhythmic bonding with the extreme imagination emerging out of brain.

Mesmerizing story and the art of storytelling.

Secret of Omordion by Nande Orcel

Synopsis: This book tells the story of five teenagers with special supernatural qualities that enter a boarding school where they can harnest their own engery. The book twists when the teacher guiding them is kidnapped and tells a story of good powers against evil.

Review: I'm not surprised by the amazon reviews this book received. I can definitely see a huge fan base growing for the Omordion Trilogy. Unfortunately, I had a difficult time keeping up with all the language and the characters. This is definitely a book that will have a certain following while the rest of us look completely confused. The imaginative qualities are amazing but felt overwhelming for me. I also felt that there were too many stories going on at once and that this trilogy could have been stretched out longer with an introductory book where you really got to know all the characters before other events got in the way. If this book focused on the teenagers stories and how they got to the boarding school and life there, the second book could have introduced the first traumatic event and focused on figuring why and how that occurred and went on from there. There was a little too much thrown in one book for me but I am also not a teen anymore myself and figure that target area would have the time and energy to invest into this story. With all that said, I actually did like it! It took me the longest time to read compared to other novels this year and I did feel lost and confused at times.

I intend to read the next book in the series because I am already committed and now I need to know what happened as this is very addictive. I'm pretty sure I will need to go back and study the map as well as all the language in the glossary before I return for the second one!

I'm giving this book a 2.75 out of 5 ⭐ because I had a difficult time fully submerging myself into this fantasy world. I'm going to reread this book and see if I experience it differently after having gone through it once already. Sometimes I felt the characters lacked a little depth but also it is hard to fully analyze a book that overwhelmed you.

Overall I found this book to be an entertaining read, and I look forward to the next instalment so that I can find out what happens next, as this book finished on quite the cliffhanger. Nande Orcel has created a whole new world, with new creatures, magics, and languages. For that I truly do applaud her. I was pleasantly surprised as each new creation was introduced.

I'd give it a high 4* for story, but it gets a 3* when I take into account the following:

The detail with which she tackles the action scenes is brilliant, but sometimes I had to take a break from the book just because these scenes were piling up one on top of another without respite, and it was too much to take in at once.

The characters are interesting, and some have flaws that irritated me at first, but these flaws turn out to be clues to revelations later on. At the point of the unveiling, my annoyance with their flaws disappeared, so I can forgive that. For one example, I got incredibly frustrated with the constant crying, especially from Zadeia.

I do think that the book would benefit from more thorough editing. Some of the dialogue falls flat, and doesn't feel real to me, and there are too many times where the wrong word is used, or the right word is used but it's spelt wrong.

I found this book to be an entertaining read. The author has created a great new world with secrets, just waiting to be revealed.
The characters are well written. Not all characters are likable at times, but that is what makes the book real. I look forward to reading the following books of this trilogy.

I didn't finish this book... I really really wanted to and I will hopefully one day because the story itself is really good. BUT I struggled reading this book. I had to utilize the TTS feature on my epub reader. The names of things are atrocious. The characters, the cities, the countries. All of it. Unfortunately. The character development is fantastic though. You can relate to these teens, and even the meddling tyrant, wanting to cry with them and help them through their journey. The story itself is unique enough to leave you with a burning desire to not stop the movie playing in your head. Unfortunately, I just couldn't get over having to skip half of the names because I couldn't even fathom how they are pronounced. I didn't finish the book, but I hope someday I will so I can finally know how their journey ends.

I downloaded the sample and did not enjoy the first few chapters. The story happens in a fantasy world but it is not properly described in the first chapters, so everything is just very confusing.

From the reviews left by other users, I imagine that they would try to convince me to get the book and keep reading, but honestly I feel that the setting would still not be my thing.

Title: Secret of Omordion

Author: Nande Orcel

Age Group: Teen/Young Adult

Genre: Fantasy

Series: The Omordion Trilogy, book one

Star Rating: 2 out of 5 stars

This book was given to me by the author in exchange for an honest review--thanks, Nande!

I'm not going to lie: I really had some issues with this book. The first time I picked it up, I only made it about twenty pages in before trying it again a few months later. And the book itself wasn't bad, once I got through the first half, but there were a lot of issues. The world-building seemed very confusing, it was hard for me to picture the setting of Omordion. But, there were good things about this novel as well: I enjoyed the five main characters and their loyalty to one another.

The story itself wasn't bad; when I read the description, I knew I wanted it. An epic quest for five children to save the world? Sign me up! But there were times when I was scratching my head: a lot of things just didn't seem to make a lot of sense in the storyline. But it wasn't terrible, either. There's some serious potential here, if only some things were fixed.

The bottom line: A good story, but with some world-building issues that made it very difficult to follow. But a great effort nonetheless! Next on deck: Sublime by Christina Lauren!

*I received this book as a part of Goodreads Giveaways*

I haven't read that much young adult stories, but the ones I've read (Harry Potter series and The Hunger Games trilogy for example) have been very entertaining reads. I am pleased to say that Secret of Omordion was not an exception.

For a first book it's excellent. The characters are marvelous. There simply wasn't a bad character in the book. If I had to say one bad thing about the characters, it would be that Hamilda's character is left a little thin. I read the omitted excerpt about Hamilda and Jogesh from the author's blog and would've liked if it had been part of the book. It brought the much needed depthness to Hamilda.

The story was beautiful and very well written and constructed. I like a book that has a lot of action, but a few times I got almost physically exhausted reading the ever continuing fight sequences. I'm not saying that's a bad thing, quite the opposite. And, thank god for my health, there were parts between the fight's to take a breather.

I'm really bad at writing reviews of books (or movies, music etc.) whether I liked it or not. This one I very much liked and enjoyed. I will definitely read the last two parts, Rise of Jmugea and Return to Oeua, as soon as they are published. I can't wait.

Thank you, Nande, for sending me a copy!

I'm not too good at reviews but I will say that this book is amazing. It is a must read for all ages and keeps the reader's attension throughout the plot. Nande Orcel did a great job with her first book and after all, the more you write the better you get. I can't wait for the next book in the series.
