Deep within the mortal world of Eiddoril, war rages and the blood of innocents flows freely. Once protected by the four elements-Earth, Fire, Water and Air-Eiddoril was a peaceful, beautiful land. Now, after three hundred years of being ravaged by an evil lord and abandoned by their creators, the people and land of Eiddoril are dying. In the kingdom of Gareth, an orphan girl is raised as one of the royal family. But when she begins to have vivid nightmares it leads her to question where she really came from. Her questions lead her to Fitch, an old magic user, who helps her discover a shocking truth. Karah is not human, but instead part of a long-forgotten race. Desiring answers, she sets out to uncover the secrets of her past, and defeat the enemy wreaking havoc across the land. In this fantasy tale, Karah must somehow find the strength to fulfill a destiny that has been forced upon her and discover the dragon within. She cannot fail. The future of creation depends on her.
I don't like talking about myself, but I suppose I could do it, just this once. I grew up in a small town called Uxbridge which is located in Ontario, Canada. I have been around horses my whole life, and I love the outdoors ( as long as there is no snow, I hate winter!). I now live in Ajax with my husband Joe and our two children, Hannah and Josh. I love to read and when I find the time, write. I love fantasy and have a pretty intence collection of dragons, weapons and anything else my husband considers strange! I hope to one day publish the full series of Karahs adventures and who knows maybe one day I'll be someones favorite author.
A classic feeling fantasy tale complete with a stubborn king, a wise queen, and a handsome and brave prince. Magic, dragons, shape-shifters, and other unique creatures, both good and evil, add to the tale. My personal favorite was Fang.
We find our young heroine in the girl who has been raised by the king and queen. It seems she is something much more than human, and as the story unfolds we find that she has lived numerous human lifetimes with each body being destroyed by the Dark Lord. However, her death is not what he has been seeking. He has bigger plans for her. Through her adventures, she slowly learns the truth about who and what she really is. As her memories return, it becomes apparent that she is the only one with the power to save her world.
The Dragon Within was a good story, told from varying first person perspectives of many of the main characters. Though this story has an old-world feel to it, some of the language used gives it a modern-day touch. It was an enjoyable read and as I expected, the ending was both satisfying and frustrating...wondering what will happen next. The author obviously has plans for this to be a series of some sort. I recommend it to anyone, both young and old, who craves a good fantasy read.
**4 Stars** I received a copy of this book for an honest review.
Cindy Lyle has created a fantastic, large world with a rich history behind it. She has expertly woven the four elements into the tale, along with mythological creatures. The book is highly detailed, so it does take a little bit to get through at points. However, the detail is necessary to the story and makes you appreciate all the work she has put into this creation.
Karah is a fantastic new heroine. She is strong yet innocent, stubborn yet foolish at times. It is a hard journey she takes to find out who she truly is, and one of her oldest friends raises more questions than she could have thought possible.
The end of the world is coming. Will Karah be able to save it? I don’t know!!! The book ends with a huge cliffhanger and leaves you begging for more. I hope that Cindy Lyle is able to finish and release the next book soon. I cannot wait to read more.
There’s much to like here for fantasy lovers: the four elements, the god of Death, shape-shifting dragons, an isolated kingdom under siege, wizards, warlocks, a curse, and a feisty heroine who must come to grips with who she really is.
Cindy Lyle has quite the imagination. She created a complex world with a rich history. Telling the story from multiple points of view adds to the complexity in satisfying ways. The curse that traps Karah’s spirit in human hosts in order to survive is a fantastic idea. To me, the mystery surrounding Fitch is the most intriguing of all. As the layers are peeled away and more is revealed, Fitch is transformed from noble hero trying to protect Karah to someone with his own hidden agenda.
To me, the plot does slow in places as we’re introduced to the complex history surrounding Karah and Eiddoril. Otherwise, good job.
Karah was left on the doorstep of the King and Queen of Eiddoril. Raised as their daughter no one knows what she really is. Except Enthor he has been hiding Karah for 300 years. Now with a war between good and evil and not knowing who is really friend or foe, Karah and Enthor and Prince Elric set out to on a journey that will test their friendship and their very own humanity. Beings thought long extinct will join the 3 on their journey. Magic will help and hinder their journey as will the elements.
This is an awesome book!! I highly recommended this book!! It has a full round house of characters and will pull you right in as if you are one of the characters. I really am looking forward to the second book in this series. YA and Adults will fall into the spell of this Authors writings!
I really enjoyed this book. I loved the storyline. It was confusing at times. There is a lot going on. You really have to pay attention to what you're reading to keep up with the book. The character's are great, but their emotions come off as forced at times. Especially in the anger scenes. It just didn't seem realistic. But, all in all, the book itself was very good and I am looking forward to reading the next one.
Really good and exiting book with planed and depth in it's characters, a good and exiting beginning followed by an story slowly roiling up to us readers. Recommended reading for all of you :)

Readers’ Comments ‘I liked this book. It was very long book but I kept turning the page anyway.’ Girl, aged 15 ‘Parts were a little slow but it still kept my interest. I liked all the magic.’ Boy, aged 15 ‘This book is well written with plenty of pace. The only problem is this plot: orphan child finding out she has powers and battling evil. This genre is so saturated; it’s almost difficult to find a children’s book with no dragons and magic in it.’ Teacher ‘A for effort. There’s everything for a fantasy nut in this book. There’s magic, dragons, mythology. There’s lots happening and most of it to a strong, likeable character. I can see teenagers liking it very much. But I must give it a D for originality. It was all a bit too Harry Potter for me or any of the millions of kids’ books where a child orphan must battle evil.’ Parent ‘I soooooo enjoyed this story. The ending was amazing and now I want to read the next book.’ Girl, aged 13

‘A compelling magical adventure.’ The Wishing Shelf Awards
So after a year, the new and improved Dragon Within is now available! I did a lot of work on it so hopefully it is now what you all deserve to find in a fantasy adventure. I changed the cover and added a title for the series. The Creation Chronicles will follow Karah on her quest to find herself, but it will also focus on the four elements, the creators of Eiddoril. The characters are all the same and I didn't change the plot, so those of you who have read it don't worry. I just cleaned it up and I'm very proud of my accomplishment. I'm just sorry it took so long!
I hope you will enjoy my story and the future volumes to come. I have loved bringing these characters to life and I can't wait to share their next adventures. If you love fantasy and dragons as much as I do I'm sure you won't be disappointed.
