It's well-intentioned, but ultimately doesn't serve its primary purpose. The solution it proposes for when you feel so mad you want to hit is simply not a realistic one. It's really important that didactic books like this one present solutions that children can actually use in the classroom. This book fails at that, which means it hasn't fulfilled its most basic reason for existing.
Synopsis:Cubby has a hard time using his words when he gets angry and resorts to hitting his friends. Monkey might have a way to help him express himself without the hitting.
My Review: This would be a good book for a child who is out of control with the hitting. Munchkin is not a hitter, we had a brief phase when he wasn't as mobile as the other kids and would resort to hitting when he couldn't move away but that only lasted a short time. As we were reading the book he kept commenting on how Cubby wasn't being nice. It wasn't the book for us but it might work well for another child who hasn't learned a way to deal with their anger yet.
