4.5 sweet-hot stars!

Kiss Me at Midnight proves that less is sometimes more. In this case, 100 or so pages less than the usual book length. This novella was packed with likable and endearing characters, witty dialogue, great chemistry between the two MCs and steamy, steamy sex.

The story...
Ashley Hanes and Ethan Pierce both wanted the same thing on New Year's eve. They want uncomplicated no strings attached sex. But not with each other though. For one, Ethan Pierce broke Ashley's heart back in high school when he suddenly ignored her their whole senior year. Two, Ethan doesn't want to go back to his hometown ever. See, he was the school geek and was bullied by almost everybody, so it was no surprise that the guy was bitter about it. He managed to reinvent himself though, transforming from being a serious geek into a drool-worthy hunk. Third, he doesn't want a relationship and neither does Ashley. So they agreed on one night only. One night of no-strings attached sex. But despite their past and their reservations, the one-night stand turned into a hot torrid weekend affair.

My thoughts...

I absolutely enjoyed this novella. Ethan and Ashley were both great characters. Ethan was especially endearing. He was your typical geek getting picked on by others and he had a stutter that made him even more self-conscious. Even after he reinvented himself, there was that geek in him that was really adorable. I don't really like the men in my books to be insecure but somehow, it works for Ethan in this book. And while he did frustrate me a bit with his "I-will-never-move-back-to-this-town-again," stance, he was still a great character. And Ashley was the perfect foil. Although she wasn't as geeky like Ethan, she was still quiet and not at all popular. I loved how she challenged Ethan's long-held beliefs about people and about moving back to their hometown.

Of course, the ending was bit predictable but I didn't really care since it was so well done. The story flowed smoothly with no dull moments and it even has an epilogue. And the epilogue was just...so romantic. A truly fitting ending to Ethan and Ashley's story

This was just okay for me. I wasn't really engaged with Ash and Ethan. I didn't really get a sense of exactly why Ash needed to stay in that small town, though she didn't want to. And although I got Ethan's issue with the town, it was a little intense for someone who seemed to physically overcome his awkward stage.

It was a quick read and cute in places, but that was it for me.

Cute, sweet friends to lovers. Just reinforces that the things that happen to you in high school stay with you through adulthood. Ethan and Ashley were best friends until they aren't. All of a sudden Ethan is no longer speaking to Ashley and she doesn't know why. Fast forward nine years later Ashley is a physician and Ethan an IT guy who has moved to California. Ethan was a nerd and was bullied in school and hates the town so left as soon as he could. He's visiting for the holidays. Ashley is still hurt. They meet again when both are in a bar on New Year's looking for a potential one night stand. Beginning was strong. Liked that Ashley knew what she wanted and went for it. Lots of chemistry. Both burn up the sheets, the couch, the inside of Ethan's rental truck, etc! The middle was a little disjointed. But the ending was lovely and oh so romantic.

This novella was ... not great. It wasn't terrible, but the writing is a little painful and the resolution is so rushed and unsupported. This is a problem I often have with romance novellas, the fun part is the erotic and romantic tension, so a little longer is generally a good thing. Also, I don't think Ms. Alberts understands how medical residencies work. Somehow Ashley's residency is as a doctor working on her own. That is called being a doctor, not being a resident.

Kiss Me at Midnight is an unbelievably HOT romance over nine years in the making. Ashley Hanes and Ethan Pierce were the best of friends in high school, until one day all of that changed. Ethan stopped talking to Ashley and Ashley had no idea why.

Ethan hates his hometown of Rehoboth Beach and after being bullied constantly, could not wait to leave. In fact, he only comes back during the holidays and doesn’t interact with anyone he grew up with when he does. Having recently returned to Rehoboth Beach after the death of her father, Ashley can’t fathom leaving town anytime soon. She has responsibilities not many people know about or understand.

It’s New Year’s Eve and both Ethan and Ashley just so happen to be at the same local bar. Each have the same mission in mind; to find someone to spend the evening with and then be on their merry way. What neither expects is for their old feelings to resurface and become hotter than hot.

What was supposed to be a one night stand turns into something so much more. Unfortunately, Ethan has wounds from his past which still haven’t healed. Even though he’s changed, he finds it hard to believe that other people are just as capable of changing. Now, with their hearts on the line, they must decide if this time they are willing to stay and fight for what they want or if they will simply walk away again.

I’m not sure how to put into words how much I loved this book. It is simply a MUST read. Kiss Me at Midnight is about love you’re afraid to ask for and coming to terms with your past. Sometimes life gives you a second chance at love. You just need to be willing to take a risk. You might just discover that a kiss at midnight could be the start of the rest of your life.

Ashley is looking for a hook-up. Ethan is back in town for a quick Christmas visit. He ran fast and far away from the town that mistreated him when he was younger. Ashely was his former best friend, he was in puppy love with her, until he saw her kissing another guy. Heartbroken, he stopped talking to her.

Ashley was hoping to run into Ethan, she wasn't expecting him to be the hottie he is today. But oh boy, he's looking good for a hook-up, he's only in town for a few days. He won't be staying.

After tearing up the sheets and having so much fun together, will Ethan let go of his past hurts and stick around to be with the girl that got away so many years ago?

Diane Alberts knows how to spin a fast, sexy read. This was a great little quickie and an easy read. Just enough to warm up this cold winter day. Kiss Me at Midnight is a great read, hoping we'll get a book for Ethan's brother!

This was just all wrong. The guy acted more like a drama queen than the chick did and it was just weird because he was trying to be all Dom and stuff and i just laughed most of the book. Luckily it was rather short so i didn't have to torture myself for long, but the shortness also kept me from being able to relate to any of the characters so it was a double-edged sword.

Not a book I'd read again or even enjoyed.

What happens when an author tries to shoehorn a back story, conflict & plot in what should have just been an all-about-the-sex book.

I would have loved more about these two characters. Apparently they both magically became smoking hot from being really nerdy back in the day. Also, forgiveness on the spot and a misunderstanding that was... well, kind of silly.

Ethan and Ashely were friends growing up and then he turned on her senior year of high school. Now it is ten years later and both have moved on but when they see each other in a bar on New Years Eve they both give in to the attraction there. One night should be enough. Only that one night isn't. What will Ashley and Ethan decide? Will they have a short fling before he goes back to California or will they try for something more?

This was a quick holiday novella. It was OK for me. I didn't feel the chemistry between the main characters, except in the bedroom. Those scenes were pretty hot. For me, I needed more than a weekend to be convinced this couple would make it. Ethan's hang up about the town was kind of annoying. You are a grown man, it's time to move on.

My Rating:★★★
GOOD: The characteristics of a 3 star book include: interesting characters, a decent storyline, and unique story elements; there was something about the story that I didn’t completely connect with; the book is a solid read. I would recommend it to a friend.
My Thoughts:
Overall, Kiss Me at Midnight was a sweet story about a second chance at love.

Ashley Haines and Ethan Pierce were best friends in high school. Both of them were awkward and shy. Where Ashley was overlooked but liked, Ethan was tormented and bullied by the other kids he had Ashley. His BFF and the girl he secretly loved. On New Year's night in the senior year, Ethan decided to go all in and tell Ashley how he felt. He bought her some beautiful white carnations and asked her to meet him at their special spot. And Ashley was there...only she wasn't there alone. Hurt and disappointed by what he discovered, Ethan cut Ashley off--totally. He wouldn't talk to her or communicate with her in anyway. Ignoring her and her pleas to tell her what she'd done wrong. Ethan never relented and left their hometown on the first thing smoking, vowing never to return and to never give his heart to a woman. Fast forward nine years and Ashley is a newly minted doctor still living in town. Hearing that Ethan is back for a family visit, Ashley goes to the local bar hoping to spot him. And she does. Their chemistry is off the charts and they agree to a weekend arrangement that neither of them can refuse. An arrangement that irrevocably changes them and leaves them wanting more.

Kiss Me at Midnight was a quick and easy read--only 90 odd pages or so. Although the story was enjoyable overall, there was something about it that left me both liking it and not liking it. And, I think that feeling came as a result of Ethan's actions. He was sweet, funny, and sexy as a mature man and endearing to Ashley as a young man. I liked that about it. However, he had this immaturity that bordered on irrational. I understand and respect that childhood can leave indelible psyche marks...I do. But, Ethan's whole rationale for never wanting to return home was that people were still talking about him, and only saw the geeky kid he used to be. Meanwhile, no one treated him that way. In reality, the people that bullied him were actually nice to him. But Ethan staunchly held on to his youthful angst over his tormentors. It took his brother, Ashley, and the bartender (who happened to be one of said tormentors) to get Ethan to see that people could change. Ethan was also unreasonable in his desire for Ashley to follow him. He was determined to leave town after their weekend affair was over, and he actually did like a thief in the night. So, it was a bit surprising that he would be confused and even a little hurt that Ashley didn't follow after him--even after he resolutely said he would not stay.

Ashley, for the most part, was likeable. She was vivacious and sweet and I appreciated the fact that she gave up her wants to help her mother.

I think my one major issue with the book was the lack of communication between the characters. I know...I know...it was all part of the story. But, I couldn't help thinking, "Boy, all that could have been cleared up with a simple conversation." Ethan and Ashley talked about everything except what was most important.

BUT, I have to give it to Ethan, in the end he came through. The scene in behind the bar made up for his childish behavior at the beginning. At that point, he was ABSOLUTELY kissable.

Star Rating is: 3 1/2 out of 5 stars! :)

My ‘Blogging Reader’s Review’ of the Novel ‘Kiss Me At Midnight’(shared via my blog: (via: BooksMoviesFandoms.wordpress.com)

It’s New Year’s Eve and you find yourself back in your hometown, where you remember both good and not so-good memories. Regardless, you’re back and you aren’t the same as you were when you first left this place. You’re single and looking for a one-night-stand to have fun with while ringing in the new year. There was someone in this town who use to be your best friend but during high school, that someone became a stranger to you. Even so, you came out tonight with the small chance of running into this ex-BFF at the small local bar. Why? What for? You have no clue but you’re here. This is what Dr. Ashley Hanes is asking herself while she searches for her next no-strings-attached hook-up to ring in the new year with. All the while her ex-best friend Ethan Pierce is searching for his own one-night hook up while he visits the old hometown that he loathes. As the reader I’m happy to let you know that you do get two P.O.V.’s(point of views) in this story. You’ll follow the story in both main characters’ Ethan Pierce and Ashley Hanes.

Doctor Ashley Hanes moves back to her hometown after taking a position at the local hospital. This town holds a history to her but her fondest and hardest memory is that of her former best friend, Ethan Pierce. Ashley has grown from an average girl to a beautiful, confident and successful woman. She moves back home to care for her mother after her father’s passing. She has made a habit of satisfying her needs with one-night hook ups. One New Year’s Eve she had no idea her life would take her back in time while changing her life in ways she never expected.

Former high-school geek, Ethan Pierce was once a scrawny guy, who use to wear over sized glasses, stuttered and was picked on in high-school. Ashley Hanes was his best friend regardless of how anyone else treated him and he had a huge crush on her. After he discovered something in high school, he stopped being her friend and ignored her from then on. Ethan resented their hometown because of the horrible memories of being picked-on. Now as an adult, Ethan is no longer that scrawny, geeky guy, he is now a successful IT guy, attractive, sexy and lives far away in California. On New Year’s Eve, he heads out while visiting his hometown in hopes of finding a sexy lady interested in a fun one-night stand. He didn’t count on her being in town or being there of all places.

This is a hot and fun story about a long-lost friendship that seems to have hopes for more when the two former-high school friends meet again nine years later as confident, sexy and successful adults. Are the feelings between Ethan and Ashley just the thrill of their past unrequited feelings or is this something with potential for a future? Can Ashley truly get over the fact that Ethan hurt her long ago when he abruptly stopped being her friend? And can Ethan finally admit his old feelings were more than a crush or will his dislike for this town send him running away again? This novella is a fun and steamy read. Check it out to see what happens between the two long lost best friends.

Kiss Me At Midnight by Diane Alberts was the absolutely PERFECT book to read right before we all ring in the new year! I’ve come to know and love Diane’s books for what they are: quick, hot books that have a whole lot of swooning and heart packed into a little punch.

Ashley was a great main character! Since this story is definitely on the shorter side, we don’t have the luxury of getting an in-depth history of all of the characters but despite that, I felt like I really got to know Ashley. I learned that she was driven, hardworking, and would do anything for those she cares about. I also learned that after getting her heart-broken by her best friend and crush in high school, she has moved on to do bigger and better things. Well that is until she finds herself back in town at the same time as said high school ex-best-friend-and-crush and is once again reminded of the pain he caused.

One thing I loved in particular about this book is that it’s told in dual points-of-view. This really helps push the story along as well as helping to introduce you to yet another main character. Ethan Pierce isn’t the same awkward, nerdy boy he used to be. All grown up, uber successful, and all sorts of attractive, Ethan wants nothing more than to make it through his visit at home and then bolt at the first available opportunity. While looking for a distraction in the town’s local bar, Ethan spots an Ashley look-alike who just so happens to be well, Ashley, but all grown up.

This here is where the story really begins! Ashley, who has so “moved on” from Ethan (a lie she tells herself) and Ethan who has so “moved on” from the pain he suffered at the hands of bullying in high school (you guessed it, another lie) both decide they should just sleep together, have some sexy time, just once, and get it out of their system; give themselves some closure of sorts. But of course that is not the way it works out. Because there is a whole lot of history between these two and also these tricky things called feelings, lust, and love. I really liked that while neither character really thought their relationship would move on and both fought so hard to resist when it actually did become more, I could see it coming from a mile away. I could see the attraction but most importantly the feelings between these two and it had me rooting for them the whole time.

Trying to get over the past is hard but trying to get over the past while also trying to work your way through the present is even tougher. Ethan and Ashley learned this struggle pretty fast when it came time for them to decide what exactly they were going to do with this relationship of theirs. Ethan couldn’t come back home to the very town that caused him so much pain and Ashley couldn’t leave town since she just moved there to help her mom out. This here is where my one and only irritation with the story lies. Both characters have a valid, somewhat reasonable option should they choose to stay together. However, both were too stubborn to give in. I may or may not have yelled at fictional characters at this point in the story. They oh so obviously wanted to be together but neither one wanted to be the first person to make a move.

Despite this small setback, Ethan and Ashley’s story is a good one. A hot one full of sexy times, quite a few laughs, and a lot more heart than I expected from it but a good story nonetheless. If you are looking for a quick read full of these very things, then I definitely suggest you pick yourself up a copy of Kiss Me At Midnight just on time for the New Year!

Kiss Me At Midnight is the latest work from author Diane Alberts (aka: Jen McLaughlin). I am a huge fan of Diane’s work and was so excited to get my hands on an early copy of this book. Well, somebody better turn the heat down in here because this book is smoking hot! I loved it!

Ashley Hanes is NOT here at this hometown bar, on New Years Eve, looking for her old sort-of-almost-high-school-flame Ethan. Nope. She’s not hoping against hope that he will stop here while in town visiting his family for the holidays. She’s also totally fooling herself. She would do anything to have a chance to see him again and tell him exactly what she thinks of him and how he totally cut her out of his life for no apparent reason their senior year of high school. She had a huge crush on him back then and would love a chance to tell him that he had blown it with her. All that bravado goes out the window when he actually does walk into the bar and she is dumbstruck with how gorgeous a man he’s become. Plans have changed and instead of giving him a piece of her mind, she’d much rather give him a piece of ass….hers to be exact. The question is: will she be able to give him that without giving him a piece of her heart?

Having a thing for redheads thanks to his high school crush Ashley, Ethan has his sights set on the strawberry blonde sitting at the end of the bar he’s just walked in to. He’d rather be anywhere but here, in this bar, on New Year’s Eve, in his godforsaken hometown but now that he was here, he’d make the most of it. Some fun with this girl is just what the doctor ordered. Talk about a shock when this very redhead turns out to be the redhead that has haunted his memory since leaving her behind nine years ago. The glare she’s sporting is a clear indication that she hasn’t forgotten how he behaved those last few months and his only desire it to apologize and make up for lost time. What better way to do that then with some hot, intense, mind-blowing sex? Hopefully he could leave his heart out of the mix….but knowing him, there’s no way that would be possible when it came to Ashley.

Oh. My. Inferno. This by far is the hottest work of Diane’s and holy mother of all things hot and sexy, it was delicious! What made it easy for this story to fall right into the smoking hot scenes was that the formality of meeting/getting to know one another wasn’t a factor. The history was already there between Ethan and Ashley so we can get right to it. Ashley wasn’t shy at all about what she wanted and it’s always a pleasure to read a strong, no-nonsense heroine. Ethan is an alpha in the bedroom with many endearing facets to his personality that I really enjoyed. What started out between them as mutually agreed upon no-strings sex turns into an awakening of feelings neither one wants to admit to and it was an emotional ride towards the end. A ride I thoroughly loved, of course! The ending of this story was so special and I was crying big fat happy tears. Give me a book that goes from scorching to sweet and you’ve given me a winner!

I’ve got say, Diane just keeps getting better with every book she writes. I will continue to look forward to her work and recommend Kiss Me At Midnight to anyone looking for a great read with plenty of heat and emotion. Thank you, Diane! Can’t wait to see what you have in store for us next!

This was a great quickie steamy romance to curl up to for the holidays! I love the former best friends turned lovers plot, and Ethan and Ashley had both the sweet and the sexy with their hidden love becoming a giant ball of sexual tension. Years apart found both of them going their separate ways, Ashley throwing her social life away for a career in medicine and Ethan running from the past to prove he wasn’t the loser everyone always said he was. It didn’t matter, though, because on New Year’s Eve, when both of them were looking for that quick fix and reminiscing about that one that got away, they were right back where they started.

I really liked these characters, and that doesn’t always happen with novellas for me. They’d been torn apart by a misunderstanding that led to a whole lot of heartache, and for such a short story I was pleasantly surprised when their heartache tugged a bit at my emotions. I loved both versions of Ethan; the geek who fell for his BFF and had his heart mistakenly obliterated, and the sexy and confident man who knew how to take what he wanted but had a big heart underneath. He was so adamant about putting his torment and his hometown behind him, but seeing Ashley threw it all back in his face. His sweet adolescent love for her was just adorable, and his reaction to losing her was such a sad turn for the both of them. But as much as I wanted to dwell on the time they wasted, I loved them coming together as adults who’d seen more of life and learned from it.

So back to the yummy stuff, which would be how delectable Ethan was and how much they rocked each other’s worlds! When all of their past was laid out on the table and they admitted how hot they were for each other, Ethan shows yet another side of his personality, which was his alpha-male status, and it was HOT! Yep, he knew just how to make his lady happy and easily brought out the vixen in Ashley. He was a fun, sexy character, and even though his decisions made a pretty quick turn-around after insisting for so long that they wouldn’t, I couldn’t help but be happy about it.

Thankfully, we aren’t left in the dark as to where Ashley and Ethan’s future will lead either, so when this story wrapped up it was just right and left me smiling! I really enjoyed this story, and I definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a quick sweet and saucy read!

Quotes:

Ashley flopped back on the couch, blinking into the empty living room. If she wasn’t sore between her thighs and favoring her right ass cheek, she’d swear she just imagined that whole thing with Ethan. ~p. 35

Yet another reason he hated this town. You couldn’t fart sideways without Father Rick hearing about it and inviting you to come to confession Saturday afternoon. ~p. 64

“If you say so.” She canted her head and offered him a small smile. “Do me.”
“Excuse me?” He cocked a brow. “I thought I just did.” ~p. 84

Ashley has every intention of seeing the New Year in with a bang and when she realises her ex-best friend Ethan is back in town there is only one man she wants to celebrate with. Ethan may have broken her heart years ago but this is her chance to get him out of her system once and for all with a night of hot sex and no commitments. Ethan has returned home for the holidays to visit his family but the last thing he'll ever do is move back to a town he hates. He never forgot Ashley though so if she's looking for a night of passion he'll make sure she has one she'll never forget, as long as she realises that he's not going to stick around afterwards. Both Ashley and Ethan are quite clear that this is a one night only deal but somehow once just isn't enough and the more time they spend together the deeper they both get. Can they find a way to make things work long term or is someone going to end up broken hearted all over again?

I love friends to lovers stories so I had high hopes for this one and I'm happy to say Diane Alberts hit the spot perfectly. Ethan and Ashley were best friends throughout school until a misunderstanding caused Ethan to walk away from Ashley forever. She didn't understand what had happened and spent months trying to get him to talk to her again until he moved away for college and she hasn't seen him since. Nine years on Ashley is still furious with Ethan for breaking her heart but she is determined to have a taste of the man she always wanted. Ethan has grown up a lot since the day he pushed Ashley out of his life, he realises now how unfair his actions were and he feels guilty for hurting her. I liked the fact that he was man enough to own his actions and apologise to Ashley, he knew he was in the wrong and doesn't try to blame anyone else for his mistake. Ashley may be mad at him but she accepts his apology and is willing to give him another chance to be her friend.

At around 100 pages this novella is short and sweet but it's full of great banter and plenty of steam. Diane Alberts packs a lot of emotion into her stories so as much as things develop fairly quickly between the characters the story is still believable and fun to read. It's easy to forgive fast relationship development in a novella, especially when characters have such a strong history and connection as these two did. If you're looking for a sexy holiday story that can be read when you don't have much time on your hands then you can't go wrong with this one. Starting on New Years Eve Kiss Me at Midnight is perfect for this time of year and it's the kind of story that I'll probably come back to and reread in the future.

Kiss Me at Midnight is a short but very HOT novella that packs a punch and brings on the steam. I am a huge fan of Diane Alberts/Jen McLaughlin and have enjoyed everything I've read by her so far. Kiss Me at Midnight is a holiday novella centering around New Years Eve. Ashley Hanes finds herself back in her hometown, now a doctor, and planning to practice there so she can take care of her ailing mother. It's been 9 years since she graduated from high school, and 9 years since she has seen Ethan Price, her former best friend and secret crush, who has had nothing to do with her since her senior year, even though she has never understood why. Despite that, she has never been able to get him out of her mind and that is part of the reason she finds herself at the local bar on New Years Eve. Yes, she's looking to get laid, but she's also secretly hoping Ethan will show up since she heard he is in town for the holidays. Ethan Price hates coming home. After graduation he left without regret, no looking back, anxious to get away from the town and the people he couldn't stand. Now 9 years later, he is a far cry from the dorky nerd he used to be. In fact, he's one of the hottest guys in the room, turning heads whenever he walks in, ripped from head to toe, with a killer smile and confidence to boot. He can't help but think of Ashely when he comes back home. He knows he was a jerk to her, but he's still pissed about what happened that night. Nevertheless, he is at the bar looking for a hookup, because that is what he does. No commitments......ever.

As fate would have it these two ex-best friends run into each other and find that neither is the person they used to be. The chemistry is through the roof and the attraction undeniable. After experiencing the best sex either of them has ever had, they both can't help but want more. Ethan is all Alpha male and Ashley is far from the shy sweet girl she was in high school. Neither is looking for more than one night, but when feelings are reawakened and on a much deeper level, these star crossed lovers have to reevaluate their feelings, their plans, and what they want in life. Whether Ethan runs again or faces his past and possible future, remains to be seen.

Kiss Me at Midnight is a super hot little story that gripped my attention from beginning to end. The story itself is great, the romance was wonderful, and the steam factor is HOT. If you are looking for a quick read than definitely brings it, then Kiss Me at Midnight is one you should definitely check out.

This is one of those book where I liked both the characters and who they are at this point in their lives. I like their situation and what brought them together at this point in time, but what disturbs me is the inability to get over, get past stuff that happened 9 years ago when they were in high school. I’m sorry but I’m very much a believer that when something in your life goes wrong you deal with it and move or you get therapy and figure out. People carry too much baggage around and let it impact their lives today; it’s not healthy and at times it’s just flat out childish. So, while I enjoyed Kiss Me At Midnight I didn’t love it because both characters were too hung up on what happened in high school making them both appear somewhat immature for the responsible adults they both are suppose to be.

Ashley Hanes and Ethan Pierce were best friends in high school until one day Ethan refused to talk or do anything with Ashley anymore. She’s never quite gotten over the rejection. Ethan’s young heart was shattered when he saw Ashley kissing another boy when he had finally made up his mind to pursue her and tell her how he felt. Cutting off all communication was like cutting out a piece of his heart but he did it and he moved on and away as fast as he could. When they meet nine years later on New Year’s Eve thing get very interesting, very quickly.

It was easy to like both Ashley and Ethan; they both have accomplished a great deal in their lives and are happy and productive. However, they have this history that neither one of them can seem to let go. One thing that is quite evident is the steamy chemistry circling around them. There is no denying they want each other and decide to spend one night getting each other out of their system while Ethan is in town for the holidays. I enjoyed their time together and the way they worked through their past issues and rediscovered each other as adults. The obvious friendship they had is still present but soon they both realize feelings they didn’t want creeping in and causing some confrontations and hurtful verbal exchanges.
I enjoyed this story but I think it could have been so much better had the characters not been so caught up in the past. Neither one seemed to want to focus on what they have accomplished; they were more interested in dredging up the past over and over. A good read that could have been so much better.

With Christmas come and gone, I turned my attention to a little novella highlighting the next holiday: New Year’s Eve. Kiss Me at Midnight by Diane Alberts is a fast read that I got through in just a couple hours during some down time at the in-laws house. Personally, I’m a little on the fence. There weren’t any major issues, but it didn’t catch me by the heartstrings either. I tend to enjoy more of the sweet romances vs. the dirty sex scenes and I think that was my biggest stumbling block.

Right from the get go we’re introduced to a leading lady who is setting out to get laid on New Year’s Eve. Same with our leading gentleman. Two people searching for a one night stand and they find each other at the local bar… but they happen to have a history. Ashley and Ethan were best friends in high school until one day Ethan just stopped talking to Ashley and basically cut her out of his life. He moved away after graduation, tired of being bullied and picked on by his small-town peers. Eight years later he’s back visiting family for the holidays and apparently trolling for booty in the local bar.

Ethan explains the cause of his abandonment and all of a sudden everything’s fine and Ashley’s all set to forgive and jump in bed with him. Ethan definitely gave me whiplash. One second he’s a nerd, then a dirty sex god, then an a-hole who walks out before the sheets cool, then a sweetheart kissing her cheek and taking her bowling. I felt like I could never keep up. I also thought it was a little odd that he supposedly had a stuttering issue but we really only saw it once. It seemed less tied to his character and more inserted when convenient as a plot device. I was also a little thrown off when Ethan was giving Ashley his condolences over losing her father one moment and a few seconds later is all over her trying to get her in bed. Literally seconds. Personally, talk of a deceased parent doesn’t put me in the mood for hot sex.

Three stars. The writing was good and there was nothing that would turn me away from trying something else by the same author down the road. I just couldn’t quite connect with Ethan and a few sultry sex scenes weren’t enough to leave me satisfied.

The first time I read a book by Diane Alberts, I didn't get it. I was expecting this epic story and instead I got a book about life long friends falling in love. After reading a few more of her books I realized.. That is the magic. Two people who get each other finally realize that they should be together. Two people with families, jobs, struggles and triumphs. In short, me and you (ok their are almost always prettier than we are). Kiss me at Midnight is another one of Ms. Alberts' magical stories about everyday love.

Ashley Haines is home, taking over her father's medical practice. Living a life she hadn't quite planned on but for the mist part enjoying herself. Only one thing was lacking.. Ashley had gone through a long dry spell and figured, New Year's Eve..what the heck. She can go back to be staid and proper tomorrow. Only she didn't count on finding the geeky boy who broke her heart all grown up.

Ethan Pierce had a horrible childhood, geeky, stuttering, clumsy...Yep you guessed it the nerd. When he finally decided to "man up" and ask his beast friend (girl of his dreams) out, he finds her kissing another boy. Devastated, he blows her off, graduates and gets the heck out of Dodge, only returning on holidays and leaving as fast as he can. But it's been 9 years and that girl is right here, right now looming for a no strings, one night stand. No way is Ethan going to pass this up.

Can two people who cared that deeply for each other ignore the past and limit everything to one night? Or can a childhood friendship change their perspectives and bring them a forever love?

Do you ever wonder, what if? Did you hurt someone you loved and regret it? Wish you could have a do over? Wished you knew then what you know now? Yeah, me too.. And that my friends is the true magic of Kiss Me at Midnight. These two people get to find love with the one person they belong with.

Kiss Me at Midnight by Diane Alberts is a seasonal holiday story about having someone close at the holidays. Even if it's just for one night with no strings attached.

Well, no strings is what Ashley thought she wanted, even though she was secretly hoping her old high school best friend Ethan would show.
She's moved back to her home town to finish her residency as a local doctor. She heard he's back to visit his family for the holidays and that he might just show at the local bar. But he hasn't spoken to her since New Years Eve their senior year in high school and she STILL has no clue why.

Ethan's back in his much hated home town. He's not the nerd he used to be, the one that was always bullied and pushed around, but he still can't stand it here. He just wants to lose himself for a couple of hours between the legs of a willing partner and the woman standing at the bar reminding him of Ashley from the back is a perfect candidate.

So what happens when the look alike really is Ashley and he has a whole lot of apologizing to do for tuning her out nine years ago? Well my lovelies, that's the patr where you say "ooh this sounds cute and funny (and steamy) and I should definitely read this book".

A hawt romance that not only dishes the love, but also covers a little of how it feels as an adult to have been bullied as a child and how that affects life choices. Oh, and forgiveness, we get to see some of that kind of warm and fuzzy happening too.

I really have enjoyed Everything I have read from this author so far under this name and under Jen McLaughlin.

I love reading a story that centers around New Year's Eve as we approach that date. I think it makes it fun to read. So, if you have been looking for that New Year's Eve read before the year, Diane Albert happens to bring such a story in Kiss Me At Midnight.

This story centers around two former friends, Ashley Hanes and Ethan Pierce. Back in high school they were best friends, and on New Year's Eve Ethan wanted to become more than friends. However, his dream was crush by a misunderstanding and he decided not to find out what really happen. In the long run cost him his friendship with Ashley.

Now Ethan is back in his hometown for the holiday's and basically looking for an easy lay and he happens to stumble upon Ashley. They have instant chemistry, but Ethan is too fearful to let something actually grow due to his rotten high school experience.

My personal opinion is no one really escapes from high school unscathed. If you are one of the lucky ones that is great. Anyway, Ethan wasn't so lucky, and he actually carries those scars to remind him that it's just safer to keep people at a distance. However, that's an awfully lonely life and he was willing to continue live it up until he started breaking his rules with Ashley.

I liked Kiss Me At Midnight, because you have two friends reunite over some years. Both are a little older and wiser, but that can be questionable. However, they need to move on from the past in order to have a future. I must say that this a is a yummy story with some steam between Ethan and Ashley. So, if you are looking for that one last quick read before the end of the year, you might consider Kiss Me At Midnight.

Ashley and Ethan were best friends in highschool and after a misunderstanding which leaves Ethan feeling like his love for Ashley was one sided he cut's her out of his life without ever explaining his actions.
After graduating Ethan moves away and never looks back, only coming home to visit his family on holidays.

Ashley never forgot how Ethan hurt her back in highschool and after seeing him again after all this time she realizes that she still has strong feelings for him.

What starts out as a one night of blow-your-mind make-up sex quickly turns into another. And another. Before long, Ashley thinks maybe she and Ethan could reunite for good. But Ethan can't forget the painful memories of high school and how he was bullied and picked on to trust a future with Ashley.

While Ashley and Ethan had great sexual chemistry and they certainly made my kindle sizzle I wasn't overly convinced with Ethan's change of heart. One min he's packed and ready to walk away from Ashley (not for the first time either) then he gets to the airport and it hits him that he loves her and can't be without her, I wanted to yell out to him FINALLY you're letting your heart acknowledge what it feels ;P

The author Diane Alberts gives us a sweet and romantic epilogue that leaves the reader feeling happy and believing that second chance love does exist :)

Kiss Me at Midnight was a quick and fast paced read, if you're looking to kick of the New Year with a steamy read then this book is for you :)

Thank you Netgalley and Entangled Flaunt for the ARC in exchange for my honest thoughts.

Ashley Hanes and Ethan Pierce both wanted the same thing on New Year's eve. They want uncomplicated no strings attached sex. They are just looking for some good ol' fashion fun...a romp if you will. To make things complicated, Ethan Pierce broke Ashley's heart back in high school. They were best friends and then one day he just stopped talking to her. Ashley tried everything to get him to open back up to her but after graduation, he moved away and never looked back. Ethan doesn't come back to his hometown unless forced and the holidays is usually what forces his hand. He was the school geek and was bullied by almost everybody, so there is no surprise that he is bitter about it and harbors a ton of resentment toward the entire town. He started a new life that has no room for feelings and relationships. When they meet up in a bar, they agreed on one night only. One night of no-strings attached sex. But despite their best efforts, the one night turns into a string of hot steamy nights.

Kiss Me at Midnight proves that less is sometimes a whole lot more. This book is less than half the size of a normal book. The novella had all the perfect pieces though: witty characters who are lovable, great chemistry, absolutely hilarious banter between the two mains, and lots of steam sex. The ending was predictable but I picked up this book with the hope of nothing more than a steamy HEA. The story flowed and allowed for no boring moments or chapters. Writing a novella can be daunting but Diane Alberts really did get this one exactly right!

This was a fun, cute, humorous, short contemporary romance about second chances and first love. Ashley and Ethan were bestfriends in high school. A small misunderstanding and an unrequited love left them estrange for the last 9 years. Now they meet again and this time both decided to have a one night stand as closure on New Year's Eve. Kiss Me at Midnight was surprisingly an engaging and funny read. Where one would expect some angst filled moments we got refreshing characters that just went for the momentary lust filled moments rather than agonize about should we or not? I like Ashley's character. She knew what she wanted, she didn't expect anything except getting what she lost back in High school which was Ethan and she knew he was the type not to stay but still went for it. Ethan was a character that was traumatized in high school, an object of bullying and so coming back to their hometown was so much an ordeal he would prefer to stay away. There is character consistency in these two, their actions and emotions, their life situations were all plausible, giving it that edge of reality. Again, the thing I liked about it is the way that it was tackled, full of humor, wit and of course sizzling and sexy interactions between the two. The epilogue gives it that little bit of traditional romance but again this was definitely worth the read.

In the beginning I put a score of 4 for this book but I gladly changed it for a 5 . yup that changed a lot!
The reason : a very short read but more than pleasant, add with a boom of emotions.
This book wasn't a ride of incertitudes it had one word : Running.
So two characters : both best friends years ago but end months before graduation (high school) and almost nine years after. Both back in town for different reasons.
Ashley was sad to lose a friend and that for no reason. she kept chasing after himand nearly came to stalking.
The guy, Ethan, left. We just know from the beginning, that he kind of turnt out being : Wow, smelling confidence, sexy and no string attached. And the man got himself several rules. All fun but no future. And the reasons would learn after. Anyway, the man just avoided and running.

But what made me really like this book was how easy they came together, from one track of mind to opening their heart and mind passing the past. People do change, kids are sometimes mean but growing up some change or more they see and learn. You can run or still hurt for that but accept and grap a hold on what make you happy.

And lastly, thanks for the epilogue!
