Welcome to the sensual world of the Lupine, where the burning drive to mate claims all...
Lexie Walters knows she’s in big trouble. Caught trying to steal her champion horse from the sexy werewolf cowboy who purchased the mare, she’s offered a devil’s bargain. Jackson Palmer will let her ride Diamond in an upcoming barrel race if Lexie spends seven nights in his bed. Desperate to win the rodeo prize money that can save her pack’s ranch, Lexie agrees. But there’s no way she’ll become his mate, no matter how much Jackson ’s touch arouses her.
Ever since Lexie left for college Jackson Palmer has waited to capture the curvy Lupine werewolf’s heart. Now she’s back in his life and he’s determined to claim her. Only Lexie can tame his wild wolf side. If Jackson doesn’t find a mate in two weeks, he’ll get kicked out of the Mitchell pack.
Lexie will do everything to resist Jackson ’s seductive charms. But she doesn’t realize there’s a far more serious threat than losing her virginity to this powerful and determined Lupine. Someone wants to prevent her from racing, only this someone will not stop until she’s off the rodeo circuit for good…
Bonnie Vanak fell in love with romance novels during childhood. While cleaning a hall closet, she discovered her mother’s cache of paperbacks and started reading. Thus began a passion for romance and a lifelong dislike for housework.
After years of newspaper reporting, Bonnie became a writer for a major international charity. She travels to destitute countries such as Haiti to write about famine, disease and other issues affecting the poor. When the emotional strains of her job demanded a diversion, she turned to her childhood dream of writing romance novels.
She lives in Florida with her husband Frank and two dogs, where she happily writes books amid an ever-growing collection of dust bunnies.
hmm I don't know if I was just in a bad mood when I read this or what, but I did not enjoy this book.
This book was recommended to me because I liked the book Drink of Me...
What were you thinking Goodreads recommendations generator. What. Were. You. Thinking?
The characters annoyed me. Lexie's insecurities drove me nuts. Maybe if she just had one thing that she was worried about, it wouldn't have been so bad, but her constant issue with being overweight AND her deformed foot got annoying. I started feeling insecure WITH her.
Also, I thought Jackson was kind of a creep. I didn't think he came off as a strong, sexy, alpha male, like he was supposed to be. He was contradictory. He talks about how when he was out on the range he was lonely and wanted to die, but thoughts of Lexie would get him through it. He knew she was supposed to be his mate 2 years earlier and yet he was sleeping around with other women. In fact he plans a romantic dinner for Lexie, and wants to convince her that she is meant to be his mate. During this dinner he says...
I've got two weeks and options. There's a few female Lupines I've kept entertained when in town who could suffice. But they wouldn't ever come close to how I feel about you, Lex. Never."
Ummm. Ew.
I also didn't really care for the M/F/M scene. It felt gross, not sexy. And I thought it was weird, especially when Aiden has his own book and he did it in front of his future mate. Eh, thats just not my kind of thing.
I don't know, maybe this just wasn't the book for me. Because I liked the world that the author created and I was intrigued by the next two stories. (Until Aiden has sex with Lexie in front of Nikita... and then gets all pissy when she talks about losing her virginity... are you kidding me?) I don't know if I'd care too much about the first two books because it seemed that they followed the same pattern as this one. Female is insecure about her weight but a muscular, gorgeous male wolf can't live without her. I'm just not into those kinds of stories. I like strong females and Nikita seems very strong, so I was planning on giving the next books a try. (well, until the last scene of this book. That may have ruined their story for me.) The writing wasn't bad and I enjoyed some of the other characters.
I've read three of this series and they were ok, but that at the end of this book with the alpha was unnecessary and ruined it for me. Not into sharing of "mates", so I won't be reading more of this series.

There was an interesting little twist in this live story. Lexie isn’t perfect. Jackson has loved her for 2 years, waiting for their time. He gets tired of waiting and takes things into his own hands. Twist and turns with HEA.
I can’t believe I waited so long to read this series!
The author has created a unique wolf pack where the members are primarily male, and testosterone runs rampant. Naturally as they are intensely sexual creatures this is bound to cause tension and conflict of the physical kind.
So when one of the strongest members of the pack starts exhibiting signs that his wolf is becoming dominant and his temper has him losing control with his Alpha; it is decreed that he will find a mate, or find a new pack.
Jackson knows who his mate is, but convincing her might take some doing. So he embarks on a plan to woo and seduce Lexie into not only his bed, but also his life; because the one thing Lexie fails to understand is Jackson has been patiently waiting for the past two years, and the wait is finally over.
A well-written story of love, desire and two fiercely loyal wolves prepared to endure heartache and sacrifice dreams for their respective packs.
This has quickly become one of my favourite shifter series.
These books keep getting better and better! I'm dying to find out more about Darius and Sam, I have a feeling he will have a run for his money. Jackson was a sweetheart, and very accepting and supportive of Lexi. We also get some more glimpses of what's to come with Aiden as well. Looking forward to a lot more from Miss Vanak.
Couldn't put this one down, great characters and good story line. Was a little surprised around the ending but I can't wait for the next book in the series to coming and are what happens next! April can't come soon enough!
First off, I'd like to say thank you for not only using a plus size heroine but one with a deformity. I really liked the chemistry of them both, both recognizing that there needs to be a give and take. The sex not smokin hot but good.
Okay. So this is a well-written book. The author has managed to pique my curiousity about some of the other characters, like Tristan and a bit about Darius, but definitely Nikita. I’m finally more comfortable with the rules of this universe and the creatures and beings involved and everything and I kinda like it. And while I’m drawn to the universe itself and some of the situations that the characters find themselves in, each book so far has had something in it that pretty much riled me up. I’m struggling here.
Where do I start? I think I should start with the fact that women are merely pawns in this series - they have no actual power that the men don’t want to take away from them. Each and every book so far has a woman who has her choice taken away from her in some way or another. In this one, Lexie gets blackmailed into living with Jackson for 7 days because he needs a mate. Standard set up - see this a lot in Harlequin Presents and it doesn’t typically bother me. But something about the way this is presented - where Jackson never sees anything wrong with his manipulation - bothered me. Because in HPland, the hero usually comes to understand that blackmail=wrong. Here, because the male wolves are alpha, and I guess because Jackson is in lurve, it’s completely acceptable. Doesn’t matter what Lexie wants. And Jackson claims he’s not forcing her because she wants him, but she says “no” and he still holds her to their bargain...that’s still force - just not the physical kind. I’m thankful that in the end, Lexie was totally on board with the sex, but I resented the fact that she’d been manipulated and seduced to that moment. I wonder what’s wrong with all these males that they have to coerce, manipulate and force women to stay with them. I don’t know if I can keep reading this series. I’m not sure I can handle the increasingly obvious message that women need not have any choice in their futures because the men have it all sorted and their futures don’t matter anyway since they’ll be getting hot sex on the regular.
I could also start with the ridiculous (and totally contrived) threesome that gets thrown in there at the end. Apparently in order to take in women from other packs, the Alpha has to actually have sex with them (even those already mated) and so in order to be able to handle that, Jackson and Aiden have sex with Lexie together. And Nikita, Aiden’s future mate, gets to watch. RME. That basically ruined this book for me (and probably theirs). Because Aiden supposedly cares for Lexie and desperately wants to mate with her...so surely she’d like to watch him having sex with someone another woman. But that seems to be how things go in this universe. Jackson supposedly loved Lexie and wanted to mate with her all this time and he certainly wasn’t celibate during their 2 year separation. He knew “last week” that she was coming for her horse and that he wanted to mate her, but that didn’t stop him from having sex “last week.” So I’m not sure why he bothered masturbating instead of going into town to get laid when Lexie was “off limits” for 3 days. Apparently it’s the same thing to him… But that’s the equivalent of infidelity for me. When a hero loves the heroine and plans to actually be with her, then he doesn’t go out and fuck other women. For me, an out of control libido that gets satisfied elsewhere while his “heart” remains dedicated is not sexy. Sexy is a man who is so dedicated that he is strong enough to NOT seek sexual satisfaction elsewhere. So that made me wonder how much Jackson really loved Lexie. Methinks it was just a case of lust. Also, Jackson wasn’t much aggressive/growly/possessive or in anyway upset that his alpha had butt sex with his woman. He put up a show about being afraid of getting violent over it, but he didn’t care one wit about it. Neither did Lexie. That bugged me a bit too. The author tells us that wolves are territorial over their mates and now I’ve seen two examples of wolves sharing their mates with other guys. You can’t have it both ways.
And for the love of God, why all the animal sex?!? I don’t want to read about wolves graphically having sex, licking each other’s genitals and what not. No. no. no. no. Humanoid sex only please. Animal sex is totally not sexy.

The third book in the series concerns Lexie, the niece of the Alpha of the Blakemore Pack. Aiden, the Alpha of the Mitchell Pack bargains so that Jackson and Lexie can mate. This is a standalone novel but part of The Werewolves of Montana set. The plot is intriguing, the characters are well developed and written. Mystery, romance, adventure, and action are all a part of this series and book. A very good read. 👍
I love Bonnie Vanak's Werewolves of Montana novels and minis. Hot Shape-Shifter men and the women they will do anything for. True Love, Fate and soul mates. Amazing story lines and characters. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.
I did enjoy this version of the story but, I can't say it's any better than the original. It was different in some ways at the end but, no better or worse. Still Bonnie did another great job telling the story.
I can't help it, I like the characters. Not much happening with world build on the fantasy scale, but the interpersonal is getting better as more characters come into play. As her take on sex isn't my cup of tea, I liked this installment because it was more sexy build-up, and less actual crass sex.
