Many of us stumbled into Jesus and discovered the one we'd been searching for all our lives, whether we knew it or not. He told us everything was going to be alright. He was a best friend who whispered that he loved us to the exact extent his father loved him. He saw everything we did yet refused to condemn us ever. He was an incredibly powerful and supernatural God who could actually change the outcome of our horror into beauty.
Then enter shame, time, failure, disappointment, and bad teaching. We learned to see him as disgusted that we haven t shaped up by now. We now have a hard time reading the words of Jesus without feeling he's telling us we re not enough and we should be better, after all he s done for us. And we pull back, not as easily daring to trust him with us, less willing to trust his plans, life and destiny for us.
What if that voice didn't exist for us?
What if we could read his voice, hear his voice, without an artificial, religious filter?
And what if we discovered he has been caring about us, speaking to us, wooing us, entering into our daily events, from the very start, long before we took even a hint of interest in him?
On My Worst Day allows us to watch one person s journey to re-discovering that voice of Jesus. We are allowed to imagine what Jesus might be saying to us in our best and worst, our horrid disasters and funniest moments. We will cry, laugh, and find ourselves in every story. And we will walk away changed; drenched with hope, and the best friend we found at the start.
I liked the format of the book . . . a chronology of God's working in John Lynch's life through his best days and thorough his worst days. John includes dialog from The Father during many of the daily incidents that provides real insight into how God is working even when we walk the other way or even when we can't see or feel Him. As in Truefaced, there is a strong emphasis on deep, open, trusting, supporting community which we all need.
More than the book itself, I am blown away by hearing the stories of how God woos us and loves us and never abandons us.
One of the most honest and insightful books on a persons journey from Atheist to Christian I have ever read in my life. You feel like a real fly on the wall as John's struggles through his life and how God continues to show Himself to John. WOW!!!
One of the perks of my new job is that I get to read more. Sitting on an airplane, airport shuttle, rental car. Oh wait… not that last one. Anyway, last week i just finished "On My Worst Day” by John Lynch. I consider John a close, personal friend (if Facebook counts for anything). I did meet him one of the times he spoke at our church, Woodmen Valley Chapel. Well, I was on cameras one of those weekends and saw him up close and personal.
But I digress. I really want to tell you about his book. John shares his personal life stories that can have you both laughing and crying within a minute. Each story points to the man he would become. I particularly enjoyed the parts where God would share His perspective on each particular event. Good and bad. The perspective is lost early on in his life. But the value of retrospect comes through later on. How do we heal through the hard times? How are we seek redemption when we’ve done wrong? Is laughter really from God?
Having had the benefit of hearing him speak, I could easily imagine hearing each snippet in his voice and picture how it took place. But, one doesn't need to have heard him speak to gain the full depth and insight of his journey to becoming the man of God he is today.
Don’t get me wrong, i don’t elevate John to God-like status. He would rebuke me if I did. I do say, however, that having known him as a gifted speaker, Goa has also gifted John with his writing. He discovered the One who carried him through his shame, disappointment, failure. The One who brings affirming, good relationships in our lives that help us see through the dark tunnel to the light (my analogy).
I am extremely blessed to have read this book. To the point that I am planning to buy it for some friends who I know would be as blessed as I was.
Often, our journey leads to questions we cannot answer. Since reading John’s book and life story, I have leaned on these wise words: "Bubbleen, Little Joe. Bubbleen." I have not been the same, since. Thank you John.
I don't know what it was, but I really struggled to read and get something out of this book. I could not make any connection between what he experienced and what I experienced growing up, hence it was a book of the author's experiences growing up. Don't get me wrong, I really like John Lynch's short video's and FB posts. Some of them are very inspiring and encouraging, but this book let me down. I am sure others will and I think it has more to do with an individuals mental outlook.
On My Worst Day, the novel provided great insight into what shaped John for his journey as a worship leader. There was nothing wrong with the writing. I just received more from The Cure, to help me on my journey.
It’s hard to describe exactly what happens in this book except, well, life. John pulls you in with each story. He is honest and has no agenda. I tested up many times reading as I could almost feel his pains.
The best description of the beauty of authentic, transparent, vulnerable, loving community, why we need it and where it begins, that I’ve ever read. A warm, witty, auto-biography That will breathe new life into your relationship with the Lord and therefore with others!
3.5 - she meandered a lot and brought in too many anecdotes that weren’t tied together very well . But what a pitcher and what a gentleman. A true member of the silent generation. Hard working and truly humble.
Listened to the audio version and it made me love it even more! John reads with all the feelings he wrote in the words. Definitely worth a second read by listening!!
Loved this book! I have enjoyed the benefit of knowing the author and hearing him share his perspectives often. However, this is a great read for anyone who desires to walk a journey with God in transformation and grace. John puts his life out there. Authenticity, humility, love, and trust are powerful components in his story and in the lessons and insights he shares. Since the copy I read was not mine, I couldn't mark it up. Now, I have to get my own copy, reread it and make notes all over the place. Looking forward to another walk through the journey of John Lynch's story and the insights spoken to me about God's love, being enough in who we already are in Christ, and how to celebrate this truth even on our worst day.
Having read previous books that John has contributed to--Bo's Café and The Cure--I was anticipating reading his story. And it did not disappoint. John's life of conversion, transformation and pastoral impact is filled with great stories and a great God. The story involving Ernest Borgnine is worth the price of the book. If you want to read what life can be like when someone lives in the room of grace rather than the room of good intentions, this book will make it clear. The only irritation is the typesetting that is often misaligned with sentences being broken up inappropriately. But it is a small obstacle to overcome. I'm sure the publisher has been offered grace.
The best book of it's kind I have ever read. John Lynch has written an memoir that will make you laugh, make you cry, and renew your faith. John's ability as a story teller, his remarkable journey of faith, and his willingness to tell his story separate him from the pack in his genre. A terrific, authentic work, from an original, authentic man of faith.
This was good, heart wrenching, but good. It's an autobiography, but a fun read. I usually don't read biographies or autobiographies, but this was worth the exception. Recommend this book for anyone who has gone through something traumatic that they've buried or that remains a weight dragging them down into stormy emotional chaos.
Can I give this book 10 out of 5 stars, please? Lynch writes so clearly and personally the powerful work of grace that God does in us through Christ Jesus. This book is just perfect.
Living right alongside John Lynch's lifelong journey growing in Gods grace. I recommend listening to audible version as John is the voice speaking directly to you.
