Overall Rating 5 Stars

I've read this whole series to date and I have to say that Vonda Sinclair sure knows how to write Scottishromances just the way I LOVE them. The story line was REALLY good and kept me turning the pages.

Chief Torrin Macleod the hero was totally sigh worthy. He was everything a Highland Warrior Chief should be, strong, fierce, stubborn, protective, honorable, sexy, tender and of course fantastic at bed sport, LMAO!

The Heroine Lady Jessie was also well written, she was smart, courageous, stubborn and caring. She was not a simpering miss and I loved that she was strong when faced with danger.

Of course we had several villains that added some excitement and action to the story line. The action scenes were EXCELLENT! There nothing better than reading a Scottish romance that has some very well written sword fighting scenes except for ones that also have SCORCHING love scenes too. I got both in this book.

The ending was FANTASTIC with an epilogue that looked just a bit into the future and left me totally satisified. This always pleases me, I really wish every author would take their time and write an epilogue.

So yep, overall I loved everything about this book. I would HIGHLY recommend this series to all of you who enjoy an exciting Highland Romance that has an awesome story line with wonderful characters and some good HOT steam added to it. For me, this was PERFECTION!

My Notorious Highlander by Vonda Sinclair is the fifth book in the Highland Adventure series. Ever since Chief Torrin laid his eyes on Lady Jessie, he knew she was different and he wants to marry her. However, Jessie doesn’t want to marry anyone. She was handfasted previously and thrown to the side for another woman. Torrin respects her decision but is also determined to show her that his word is true. What they didn’t take into account is that the man she was handfasted to decides he does want Jessie after all. Except he doesn’t want her, he wants her dowry. Jessie’s brother, Haldane is up to some mischief yet again. The odds are against Torrin and Jessie being together, their lives are at risk as well.

If I didn’t have any other obligations for the next two days, I swear I could finish the series. I think I read this in just a few hours. One of my favorite aspects of this installment is the compatibility of the main characters. Torrin knows that Jessie is brave, smart, and beautiful, but she needs to think those things about herself. But more importantly, he shows her that she is worthy even if she can’t have children. Another aspect that I love about these books is that family doesn’t have to be a blood relation. Haldane, her brother, is the worst but Jessie knows this. She also knows how to make the hard decisions regarding Haldane for the sake of her people. That is real courage. Overall, this is another wonderful, steamy addition to the series and I can’t wait to continue on! This book gets 5 out of 5 stars.

In this installment of Vonda Sinclair’s Highland Adventures series, we see Torrin and Jessie’s story.

Torrin MacLeod is on his way to see Lady Jessie, to propose. Again. He met her 7 months ago and fell in love. But Jessie is having none of it. She’d been handfasted to Gregor MacBain in a trial marriage and it didn’t end well. She was returned. So she’s pretty much over men.
But when Torrin meets her first husband on the way to see her, he’s instantly suspicious. MacGregor wants Jessie back, and he won’t let Torrin, or Jessie, get in his way.

Jessie has her own reasons for saying no to Torrin, and it’s not just because she had been in a bad marriage. She believes she saw Torrin kill her foster brother when she was a teen. She has heard rumors of this man, and she sees how he carries himself. He’s dangerous, he’s a warrior, and she has seen firsthand just how deadly he can be.

Torrin knows Jessie is leery of him, but what he doesn’t know is why. He can’t get her out of his head. Unfortunately MacBain, the man who used her and returned her, is constantly getting in his way. Torrin sets himself up as her protector until her brother returns, because not only is MacBain a threat, but there is another storm brewing. McMurdo, a mercenary who we’ve seen from other stories, is still stalking the woods, and some threats are closer to home than they think.

I like how hard Torrin worked to win Jessie’s heart, he quickly learned not to take anything for granted, and he tried his hardest to show Jessie that he was in it for the long haul. I totally understand why Jessie couldn’t put her faith in Torrin at first, but oh I just wanted to shake her at one point and tell her to wake up! He really loves you and doesn’t care about the big thing I can’t say for fear of spoiling ; )

I love how this series has been going. This author bravely pits brother against brother, and sometimes brother against sister.Starting off with a bang, My Notorious Highlander delivers a seductive and suspenseful story packed with vivid description and likeable characters. I highly recommend this series for all Scottish Romance lovers, and all Historical Romance lovers.

5 Star Top Pick!

My Notorious Highlander is the latest installment of Vonda Sinclair's Highlander Adventure series. It is sweeping story of survival, love and betrayal. Ms. Sinclair pens fantastic historical romance. Stunning settings are richly described and her characters are real and believable. Yet again, our couple faces a long road to happiness. Torrin and Jessie have scorching chemistry but sometimes they can't seem to get out of their own way. So many are conspiring against them yet they maintain their courage and dignity. The plot is filled with suspense, romance and passion. My favorite parts of this story are simply when Torrin and Jessie are talking. The dialogue is so well written. This is where we learn just who these people are and why they are so well matched. I freely admit that I'm biased in my opinion of this series - I love it. However, that fact makes my expectations very high for each new story. Ms. Sinclair doesn't disappoint. Her Highlander books are consistently fascinating, fast-paced and filled with passionate characters. I can only reiterate what I said in reviews of her other books in this series - start at the beginning and let these stories take you away and make you believe in true love.

--

Torrin has wanted Jessie since the first time he saw her. He has his work cut out for him. Jessie MacKay has already been hand-fasted to a man she never wanted to see again and he's back too. Jessie trusts no one, least of all the handsome and charming Torrin. Neither can deny the attraction between them, but treachery and betrayal is all around them.

Captivating Adventure!

Out of all the books in this Highland Adventure Series, My Notorious Highlander has got to be the most captivating.  Sure they all have their heroes that get their mate but this story’s hero “Torrin” is in a league on its own.

Torrin MacLeod is a warrior chief that is notoriously known for his fierce and brutal behavior against his enemy; however in this story I would say he is notorious for his determination to win over the woman he knows would be the perfect wife.  The man pours his heart and soul out to the woman he loves (Jessie) throughout the whole story regardless of how many times she rejects him. I loved him, to me he was the perfect man, he didn’t want Jessie just for sex, no he wanted her for her friendship, witted mind, and tenderness towards other clan members.

Jessie MacKay on the other hand was the perfect independent woman.  After doing everything that was required of her for her clan she had learned her lesson in protecting her heart after she’d been used and set aside from a previous trail marriage as if she wasn’t good enough and the fact that she didn’t become with child.  With that fear alone she knew she could never let her heart love and wish for something that could never be.

This story totally captivated me because the author’s visualized words transformed a friendship that blossomed between Torrin and Jessie as if they were best friends instead of lusty lovers.  Sure their chemistry sizzled and steamed up the pages but what made it so special was the fact you could feel the sincerity and emotions from the friendship built.  The trust built between them was the security blanket of safety, protectiveness, and a feeling of being cherished for a lifetime.

The plot was filled with humorous drama when Gregor MacBain shows up and desides he wants Jessie back even though he set her aside 3 years past.  I have to say it was fun seeing Torrin besting Gregor at every turn - they were like two roosters fighting over her with their blindsided jealousy getting the best of them.  I have to high five Torrin for making Gregor look like the weasel scum he truly was.

Of course there was lots of action that kept me turning the pages.  Throughout the series Haldane MacKay is still the thorn in the side to be reckoned with, he is stilled determined to steal Seona to make her his wife and kill his cousin Keegan while his other outlaw buddy McMurdo kills Dirk MacKay in order for him to become the new chief of Dunnakeil Castle.   But things don’t always work out as planned and with the help of Torrin’s men and his best friend Iain Stewart along with Dirk and Keegan, they give Haldane and his men along with Gregor MacBain and his men a brutal whipping that brings closure to Haldane’s ruthless tirade.

(Sigh) The chemistry between all the characters are amazing and I still want to see Rebbie get his story and now I want to see the new characters introduced to the story – Iain Stewart get a story too.

Overall, the story was beautiful and heartwarming.  I got teary eyed at the end with happiness in my heart as Jessie’s reality hits home and Torrin is gifted with the one wish he has been waiting for through this Highland Adventure.  This is one story I will always love and cherish. It is a true testament to never stop fighting for what you want and believe in.  With that I cannot express enough how great this story was but I did find a song that expresses the sincerity of the love in this book – warning it may make you cry.

Song:  I’ll be Waiting by Lenny Kravitz

“He broke your heart
He took your soul
You hurt inside
Cause there’s a whole

You need some time
To be alone
Then you will find
What you’ve always known

I’m the one who really loves you baby
I’ve been knocking at your door

As long as I’m living, I’ll be waiting
As long as I’m breathing, I’ll be there

When ever you call me, I’ll be waiting
When ever you need me, I’ll be there”

EXCELLENT READ!  I highly recommend this whole series to all romance lovers and I look forward to the next installment to this series.

This is a good Highlander romance. It may actually be my favorite in the series so far. It gets 4 stars from me.

Torrin was an absolute sweetheart, and was so good to Jessie. He rescued her a number of times, risking his own life and sustaining severe injuries -- even though he knew she might never agree to marry him.

I liked Jessie, but thought she was unfair to Torrin. I get that she thought she might be barren, but it was wrong of her to tell him she loved him and then refuse to marry him.

I liked that Torrin willingly risked his life a number of times to protect Jessie. In all of the books in this series, the protectiveness of the male characters is one of the things I have liked most about them. They are always willing to rescue anyone in danger, especially vulnerable women.

It bothered me that the bad guys in this story were just so thoroughly evil. They had absolutely no redeeming qualities at all. The guy who wanted to force Jessie to marry him was just awful!

My rating system is below.
1 star -- Hated it, or did not finish. I usually only give this rating if some of the content is truly objectionable to me, like if one of the main characters does something really awful, and gets away with it.
2 stars -- Didn't like it. This rating usually means that I thought the writing wasn't very good, the editing was terrible, I didn't like the characters, or it had other major flaws.
3 stars -- I liked it, but had some minor issues with it. This rating means that there were minor editing issues, the story needed more character development, it was just too unrealistic, or had some other fairly minor issue. The majority of books I read get this rating – I do not consider it a bad rating.
4 stars -- I liked it a lot. This is a high rating for me, and I rarely give a higher one.
5 stars -- I loved it, and will probably read it again. Very few books are good enough to get this rating from me. The ones that do are usually classics.

I received this book for free from the author for a review.

Once again, Vonda Sinclair amazes me with her talent of creating characters that I care about. Torrin McLeod wants to marry Jessie. Again. He met her earlier in the year and pretty much knew she was the one for him. He even has the sweetest quote about him praying for someone like her. Jessie is not the slightest bit interested in being married. She had been hand-fasted to another and he sent her back to her family. She is dealing with feelings of rejection and thinking that she is barren. I think she has a bad case of the what ifs. This novel starts out with Torrin on his way to Jessie's when he happens upon her ex-husband,Gregor MacBain, who Torrin can tell is nefarious. Torrin and Gregor ply for Jessie's hand and when Gregor tries to do something nefarious, is booted off the property. Of course, this causes and upcoming war and Jessie's no-good for nothing, brother, Haldane, shows up. The epic battle between Haldane, the Mackays, the McLeods, and MacBains happens. The story doesn't end there. Torrin is gravely injured, not once, but twice. I almost died both times! Vonda kept me on pins and needles. Torrin was the perfect male. I want one! lol Read this book!

Devilishly handsome Chief Torrin MacLeod is a deadly and fearsome warrior with a formidable reputation. But after meeting the very beautiful Lady Jessie Mackay the winter before, he cannot think of anything or anyone else.
He must have her as his wife and so he unexpectedly visits her at her home. He cannot get Jessie or her exquisite flaming red hair out of his mind.
But the spirited, intelligent and loving Jessie is a young woman with secrets that hold her back from falling for Torrin, whom she is deeply attracted to.
From the moment this books starts, you are drawn into a wonderfully thrilling, passionate and humorous adventure. Torrin's dry wit and Jessie's quick answers all add to this delicious story.
This book has it all, camaraderie, deadly plots, romance and humour from the characters conversations. Many of the familiar characters return from previous books all adding to this delightful tale.
I found the book very emotional and Torrin and Jessie were fabulous characters, though this is all down to Vonda Sinclair's mastery.
Vonda has a wonderful way with words, capturing the era, spinning a glorious tale and making you want more and more.
It is a glorious read!

Vonda Sinclair is an absolute wonder... Each book in this series is just as good as the last.  I can never just pick up one of her books and read in moderation.... no, I am obsessive and I stay up late, I put stuff off etc, just to read it through. This book (like the others) is an absolute page turner!  Torrin and Jessie are such an captivating couple! I love how brave, bold, and devoted he is, and how stubborn, and selfless she is. One of my favourite things about these books, is that none of the characters are portrayed as invincible, and at times are vulnerable. The characters are believable. The story is full of action, it is fast paced and holds your attention from beginning to end.  Never a dull moment!  More characters I'm in love with.

This Scottish medieval romance was written exceedingly well, depicting the customs and language of the culture and era, however the plot remained redundant. It revolved around much clan squabbles over land and lasses, resulting in gory battles and explicit hot and steamy sexual scenes. Depending on what you seek, this novel can be either thumbs up or thumbs down.

Wooing the lass.

Chief Torrin MacLeod has come to the Mackey castle for a lass. A lass who is the sister of the chief. A lass he loves and wants to marry. Jessie can't allow Torrin to persuade her to marry. If she may be barren, then he'll have no heir. To man in love it doesn't matter. A smooth talking charmer has his work cut out for him.

I love most any Highlander tale, and this was as special as it gets. It opened the window to how life for the men and women of both allied and warring clans were. I liked all the characters, no matter what their role was.

My Notorious Highlander by Author Vonda Sinclair
The Highland Adventure Series - Book 5

The amazing beauty about Author Vonda Sinclair's The Highland Adventure Series is the way each book stands on it's own. This Author quickly recaps the foremost details, bringing the reader directly into the current presence of the story. This is Chief Torrin MacLoud and Lady Jessie MacKay's beautiful, adventurous love story.
On the high expansive cliffs of Scotland, overlooking the sandy beach, the roar of waves echoing in the distance sits Castle Dunnakeil.
Torrin and Jessie met the previous winter when Torrin visited Dunnakeil under entirely different circumstances. When he laid eyes on Lady Jessie, Torrin was smitten. Torrin hasn't been able to stop thinking of Jessie for the past several months and has returned to her home with hope of making her his wife. Lady Jessie has been hurt and discarded by a man and believes all men are untrustworthy. Torrin isn't just any man, with thick chestnut hair, tall and lean, with broad shoulders and piercing green eyes, Jessie finds her attraction to him confusing and vexing. Torrin finds himself playing the role of protector to Jessie, as an old suitor reappears and wants Jessie back, strictly for her dowry. As threats against both Torrin and Jessie increase, Jessie finds herself mindlessly and passionately attracted to Torrin, but still to fearful and guarded to trust him. Although, I found myself falling in love with Torrin at every turn of the page, Jessie continues to guard her heart. I have heard that an Author reveals a little of themselves in every book they write. I believe that to be true and was so overwhelmed with emotion in one scene, I knew at that moment, how much of this Author's own heart was written in this story. Jessie's constant companion, her beloved Wolfhound Ossian, passed away one month before Torrin arrived at her home. Torrin finds Jessie sitting alone on the beach crying. He wants desperately to pull her into his arms and comfort her, but holds back, not knowing if Jessie would welcome his physical embrace. Torrin coaxes Jessie to reveal why she is crying. Jessie feeling vulnerable in revealing how much she misses her dog, finds herself completely surprised when Torrin doesn't find her foolish or ridiculous, but sits quietly next to her and shares a story of the loss of his own dog. At this moment, Jessie's heart begins to open to Torrin. As tears streamed down my face, I realized only a person with a profound love for their pets and a person who has suffered through such a loss could write this scene with a pure, compassionate love and expose their own heart in the process. As Torrin continues to guard and protect Jessie, the undeniable attraction between them can no longer be denied. With long, slow, passionate kisses, Torrin melts away the stone walls around Jessie's heart and ignites a fire between them that Jessie can no longer ignore and submits to Torrin's sensual kisses with her own heated desire. Although Jessie is still unwilling to openly give her heart to this wildly passionate man, she does realize she cannot resist the pleasurable moments in his arms. Torrin sends a few of his men on an errand to retrieve a gift for him to present to Jessie. When the men return and Torrin gives his precious and thoughtful gift to the woman he now realizes has completely stolen his heart, Jessie doesn't react in the manner in which Torrin had hoped. Feeling a bit defeated, Torrin leaves the room. It is within those quiet moments Jessie is alone, she struggles with the truth that Torrin is the best man she's ever known and that he truly knows her heart's desires, for his gift is more precious to her than all the emeralds in the world. As Jessie embraces the love and thoughtfulness behind Torrin's gift, she begins to embrace the truth inside her heart. She loves Torrin. The adventure of their love and the struggles that come with it, doesn't end here. Author Vonda Sinclair takes the reader across the highlands, to the shores, through the beautiful rolling green hills of the lowlands as Torrin and Jessie fight for their happy ever after. Another beautifully written story by this Author. An absolute must read. On a personal note, the dedication stole my heart.

Ms. Sinclair delivers another captivating Highland story with ‘My Notorious Highlander’. We get the chance to meet and fall in love with Chief Torrin Macleod and Lady Jessie Mackay in this story that is told with passion, heat and intense sexuality.

Torrin met Jessie seven months ago and was instantly smitten. Falling in love. Jessie on the other hand was attracted to Torrin but because of her past was not as quick to trust or fall in love for that matter.

Ms. Sinclair gives us everything we want in a highland laird just as she always does. Someone that is strong, fierce, stubborn, honorable, and sexy as hell and most of all tender while being fantastic when it comes to making love. This off course is the perfect complement to our heroine Jessie who just happens to be just as stubborn in a smart, courageous, caring and strong way. I loved seeing the lengths that a laird who could have anyone would go to win over the one he loves. Torrin knew that Jessie was his one true love. He was in it for the long run and showed determination in gaining her trust.

Adding in the villain’s to the story was just the right amount to add depth and excitement bringing the whole story to a place that captivates the reader so that they don’t want to put the book down at all.

The action scenes with the sword play was written so that you are able to visualize what is going on also allowing you the opportunity to actually feel as if you were there watching everything as it was happening.

Throughout this series it has always seem realistic as Ms. Sinclair pits siblings against each bringing it to life while placing you in the middle. The melting hot sex scenes blended into the story making it seem as if you the reader were spying on the action…but, it really was fun and entertaining to spy…

As always the lending of well written dialogue, a captivating story, lovable characters, beautiful scenery, steamy sex scenes and depth make for another story that warms your heart. I once again enjoyed this fast paced-entertaining story in the Highland Adventure Series. Ms. Sinclair gave us a small glimpse to the future and I for one can’t wait. A nice summer… okay…a nice anytime read. For those that crave satisfying romance.

Audiobook Review:

Chief Torrin MacLeod is the kind of handsome, kind, loyal, knows-what-he-wants man, a most swoon-worthy chief. He has a problem. The lassie he has set his heart on, shoots daggers at him when she’s obliged to look his way.

I must admit, Torrin wouldn’t give up. He’d been thinking about Jesse since he last met her, seven months before. Even though his best friend, her brother Duncan, denied his request to court and marry her, he wouldn’t give up.

He probably shouldn’t have shown up at the Keep with Chief Gregor MacBain, previously hand-fasted to the lovely Lady Jessie MacKay. Jesse paints men with the same paint stroke as she experiences with Gregor. Not married, yet hand-fasted, to a man she learned to love, ended up rather bad when he decides three months into the hand-fasting, she wouldn’t do, since he finds another which took his fancy AND quickly is with child.

But Laird Torrin and Gregor MacBain travel the same direction toward Durness. Torrin knew of Gregor’s intent to re-win Jesse’s hand, since his wife had died after previously birthing him an heir. Laird Torrin’s need to protect what he knew to be his, forced him to travel with Gregor. When they arrive, Jesse is ready to throw both of them out of the Keep, but she relents with great reluctance. Not providing hospitality to a traveler is most improper.

Jesse sees the danger of these two men vying for her, but is little aware her younger brother, Haldane, is convinced he should be the new chief of the clan and intends to do what he must to make it happen. He is most unsavory and teams up with other unscrupulous highway men.

Where will the greatest danger come from for Jesse? McBain, MacLeod or her own brother?

I always enjoy what Vonda Sinclair writes. Dave Gillies, with his character impersonation enhances the stories Sinclair writes. He has a great singing voice and quite flexible with women's voices. He adds that extra intensity to the listen through his perfected voices, sentence cadence and depiction of character emotion. This particular listen I did in one day. It was fast-paced, suspenseful and a total delight to listen to.

Oh, did I mention Jessie's younger brother, Haldane, who just happens to be an outlaw, a murderer and wants to use Jessie to take over the castle from his older brother? If you enjoy fast paced, action packed Highland adventure than "My Notorious Highlander" is definitely the read for you. The characters are engaging, charismatic, and fierce. The storyline is intriguing, dangerous and will have you turning pages faster than you can say Highlander. Oh, for a moment or two I was spellbound, as Torrin has to save Jessie over and over. How many will die in the process of Haldane and Gregor's revenge and hatred? Hatred can turn the most beloved family member into a horrid brother, who is only after his own gain. A deliciously sexy story of love, family, revenge, and forgiveness. For action, thrills, and passion pick up "My Notorious Highlander". I loved it! Well done, indeed! I love Highlanders and their lasses and this was no disappointment. A not to miss story! Received for an honest review from the author.

Chief Torrin MacLeod vows to possess and wed the spirited lady who stole his heart the previous winter. But Lady Jessie MacKay wants naught to do with the dangerous warrior, no matter how devilishly handsome and charming he is. When Torrin arrives unexpectedly at Jessie's home, along with Gregor MacBain, a man Jessie was formerly handfasted to, she is thrown off-kilter. She never wanted to see either man again, but now they are vying for her hand. Torrin promises to protect her from the devious MacBain, but how can she trust Torrin when she has witnessed how lethal he is?

The more time Torrin spends with the strong and independent Jessie, the more determined he is to win her heart. Once she allows him a kiss, he feels her passion flame as hot as his own. After she knows Torrin better, Jessie finds herself falling for the fearsome Highlander. But the odds are stacked against them. The sinister MacBain is bent on kidnapping Jessie, making her his bride and killing Torrin, while Jessie's conniving younger brother, Haldane, is determined to use Jessie to take over the castle in his older brother's absence. Jessie fears she can never be with the man she loves, while Torrin will do everything in his power to ensure they are together forever. In his heart, she is the only lady for him.

Stars 3/4 (Kate Pearce, Maureen Driscoll, Elisa Braden)

Hey fellow readers I don’t summarize the books (as there are always great full summaries written that I read myself).

I only give it my personal, general, summary of 5 stars to 1 star.

3 stars: This book is worth a read but didn’t really have me excited about interacting with the book where I could not put it down. It lacks the excitement and well roundness of my personal markers for a great read throughout the book.

Development and interest in main characters, secondary characters, humorous, movement of the book, writing/conversation and romantic/sexual content (1-2 scenes or too much unnecessary).

Read it once and that is enough for me.

However, if this book is part of a series, I would read the next book (pervious book) in the series as it would still peek my reading interest.

I’ll continue reading from this author. I wouldn’t cross the author out of my potential reads in the future.

A thoroughly entertaining story, I couldn't put it down.
Torrin MacLeod had fell in love with Lady Jessie 7 months ago when he first met her, and had proposed to her and been turned down. He now wants to propose again and hopes to be successful. Jessie'd been handfasted before which had ended badly, so she intends to stay single and free off men, but unknown to to her as well as Torrin, her handfasted husband Gregor MacBain is also on his way to propose to her.

I liked Jessie. She was in high demand but she was feisty and strong and knew exactly what she wanted and stuck to her guns. She could of had more faith in Torrin but I still liked her any way. The romance is steamy, and at one point, yes, I shed a little tear.
I highly recommend this book to highland romance readers every where! 5/5
