Home For Christmas by Melissa McClone is book #2 in the Copper Mountain Christmas series. I am a warm weather girl and have been for all of my adult life. My blood is probably as thin as water. But Melissa McClone and the Bar V5 ranch in Marietta, Montana make me yearn for snow and horses and cattle and those oh so handsome Montana Cowboys.
Rachel Murphy and her brother Ty lost their parents when Rachel was just a little girl. So Ty raised her. Rachel is twenty-six now but Ty still sees her as his little sister. And he is every bit as over protective as he ever was. He put Rachel through Culinary School and she was about to reach her dream of owning her own bakery in Arizona. But she trusted the wrong business partners. Fellow chefs and she thought friends and business partners took her for everything. So she is trying to start over. She is going to spend Christmas this year with her brother Ty at the BarV5 where he is Ranch Foreman. It will be their first white Christmas together. She was not at all prepared, though, for the Ranch owner and Ty’s business partner, Nate.
Nate was a Venture Capitalist and has more degrees than he can count. He thought his future was all planned out until his Dad got sick and Nate had to move to Montana to take over the family Ranch. He fell in love with it, though, and now can’t ever imagine doing anything else. The thing that is missing is having someone to share it with.
“Somewhere in the state of Montana there had to be a woman he wanted to date more than once. Hell, he might propose on the second date if things ever got that far. All he had to do was find her.”
The day he got home to find a beautiful woman baking in his industrial sized kitchen, filling his home with all kinds of wonderful smells, his life changed forever.
Nate used his financial know how and helped Rachel to market her beautiful gingerbread houses in Marietta to help her earn enough money to start a new business. But the more time they spent together, the more Nate knew he didn’t want Rachel to go back to Arizona to start her bakery. He wanted her right here in Marietta, with him.
No one wants to see you leave. Their stomachs will miss you. I’ll miss you.”
Rachel has trouble trusting now, though. After a long string of horrible boyfriends and then what happened with her bakery in Arizona, how could she ever trust anyone again? But after a couple of oh so sexy kisses under the mistletoe, it might be time to admit that Nate has found his way into her heart.
Nate, with his past in finance, is hilarious with how he approaches things. He thinks everything is a presentation. But the way he finally chose to show Rachel how he really felt was I think the sweetest thing I have ever seen.
“Aw, bloody hell. Please tell me you’re not making her a PowerPoint presentation.”
I have probably said it before but I love Melissa McClone’s books. They are just so visually wonderful. I can feel the cold air in my lungs, picture the huge Christmas tree in the ranch house, see the horses in the pastures. I loved Rachel and Nate’s story. They both have struggled in their lives but they found hope in each other for the future they both dreamed of. This was a perfect Christmas book. It left me with that special warm and fuzzy feeling that I love.
“Home, there’s no place else I’d rather be. For Christmas, Forever.”
Rachel has been hurt, betrayed and had her dreams ripped right out from under her. Longing for home and family, she heads to Montana to spend Christmas with her brother, Ty. Determined to keep her dreams of owning her own bakery alive, she sets out to make customized gingerbread houses to sell all over town. Hopefully she can earn enough money over the holidays for a new lease deposit.
But if she's going to do this, she needs a bigger kitchen than the one in her brother's apartment. Enter Nate, her brother's boss and best friend. He'll do anything he can to help out his best friend's little sister. From the moment he lays eyes on Rachel, he knows he's in trouble. He's definitely going to need to keep his distance. Best friend or not, there is no way her overprotective brother will ever see Nate as good enough for his baby sister.
But the more time the spend together, the closer they become, and the stronger their feelings grow. Nate knows that Bar V5 is not only where Ty belongs, but where Rachel belongs as well. He needs to help change her mind and get her to stay in Montana. He can't take the chance of losing his best friend, or his little sister. The businessman in him sets out to make a plan that she won't be able to say no to.
However, he takes his plan one step too far and does the unthinkable. He has hurt Rachel and sent her running in the opposite direction. He's going to have his work cut out for him if he's going to prove to her what she really means to him and what he's willing to sacrifice if she'll just give him one more chance. With a little Christmas magic and help from the Santa of What Could Be, Rachel and Nate just might get their happily ever after after all.
Home for Christmas was such a cute book! It's perfect for an afternoon read to help get you in the Christmas Spirit. If I have only one complaint it would be that it just ended! I really, really wish there would have been just one more chapter... or even an epilogue! I was left wanting more!
This is my first book by Ms. McClone and I already have others on my list to read! And I will definitely be reading the remaining books in this series. I love adding new authors to my list!
And of course we can't forget my casting! I am loving these two!
Rachel Murphy goes to Montana to spend the holidays with her brother and get over a friend's betrayal and plans to sell some off her cookies while she is there to keep her dreams alive. When she arrives there she meets her brother's handsome boss and is enchanted with him, but she is afraid to pursue him. Nate Vaughn sees her business acumen and thinks she is the perfect partner for his new venture and they start to work together; when they start to realize they love each other they will have to think about what is more important to them and if they could be together.
Clean romance, nothing beyond kissing and vaguely roving hands. I can't even remember any curse words but I can't promise there aren't any.
This book has a style of romance that isn't my thing. It's dual POV so there are pages of thoughts by both the h and H about the other person, be it descriptions of how they look, thoughts about wanting more or whatever. This is followed by pages of why they must not act on these thoughts. All through the book this constant push and pull dynamic occurs. It is very common in romances so I think this book will be a good fit for many romance readers. Unfortunately I grew weary with it and nearly put the book down.
A plus was likable characters who weren't perfect. A minus was the 26 year old heroine who wanted to be treated by her older brother as an adult but then sometimes seemed/acted much younger than her age. At least the author wrote a fairly good reason for why.
In the end I think many romance readers will like this book. It is not the least bit edgy so safety wise there won't be anything to ruin the romance for people. The reason why it wasn't a good fit for me had to do with the dynamic being employed for this romance. It is never a good fit for me even though it is very common to this genre.
The story of Rachel and Nate brought me in from the first page. The bond of brother/ sister between Ty and Rachel are very strong. Ty is very protective Of Rachel, due to her past mistakes, will not let anyone hurt including Nate. This is true story of Christmas in Montana. Gingerbread cookies, mistletoe, plenty of snow and hopefully love for Rachel. I highly recommend this story to get you in the mood for the upcoming holiday season.
Home for Christmas by Melissa McClone is a lovely sweet and clean holiday romance. It’s perfect for curling up with in an easy chair with a cup of hot chocolate. This is the first book in the author’s Bar V5 Dude Ranch series and the second book in her Copper Mountain Christmas series. It works perfectly well as a stand-alone read with a self-contained romance and plot line. This is the story of venture capitalist and dude ranch owner Nate Vaughn and pastry chef Rachel Murphy.
Rachel’s brother, Ty, raised her after they lost their parents when Rachel was little. Rachel is twenty-six now, but Ty still sees her as his little sister and he’s just as protective of her as he was back then. Ty put Rachel through Culinary School to help her fulfill her dream of opening her own bakery in Arizona where she lives. However, she trusted the wrong business partners and they took her for everything. Still reeling from that devastating betrayal, she has come to the Bar V5 Dude Ranch to spend Christmas with her brother who is the Ranch Foreman there. It will be their first White Christmas together. Missing being in the kitchen, Ty offers to let her use the industrial kitchen at the ranch. She’s in seventh heaven in her element when Nate, the ranch’s owner, comes home and follows the delectable smells into his kitchen - and finds Rachel there.
Nate is a very smart nerd. He had his future all planned when his father got sick and Nate had to move to Montana to take over the family ranch. Now, he cannot imagine doing anything else. He just wishes he had someone to share it with. As Rachel needs venture capital now to realize her dream of her own bakery, Nate suggests that she market her gingerbread houses in nearby Marietta to earn the seed monies she needs. The more they are around each other, the more Nate realizes he really wants Rachel to stay at the Bar V5 Ranch with him. But… while he’s extremely smart with figures, he’s the pits at expressing feelings; graphs and charts don’t work well in the romance department.
Rachel is scared of being hurt again and she doesn’t want business advice. Being strongly attracted to his partner’s sister spells trouble with a capital T – but Nate can’t help himself. When Rachel refuses his help, he schemes to help her on the sly with Operation: Hansel and Gretel. However, secrets have a way of seeing the light of day at inopportune times. I loved this couple and was pulling for them to find that they could each have everything they wanted… together.
Following please find a few of my favorite quotes from Home for Christmas:
She wore a simple purple long-sleeved turtleneck, but streaks of white across her chest - flour perhaps? - distracted him, made him want to volunteer for cleanup duty. --- He sauntered across the kitchen, six feet of male hotness and charm, heading in her direction like a drone missile locked on a target. --- He wanted to wrap his arms around her and kiss away her uncertainty. But if he did that she would bolt. So he brushed stray hairs that had fallen out of her ponytail off her face instead. Ignored how soft the strands felt against his fingers. Pretended his pulse wasn't stampeding like a herd of bison on the plain. --- Mistletoe was her new favorite holiday decoration. She would have to hang some in the kitchen. All over the house. And keep the green stuff hanging until Easter. Or Thanksgiving.
Living in Florida, I enjoy reading holiday stories with snow during the summer just to cool off and this easy quick read works very well for accomplishing that. Melissa’s writing is so vivid that readers will feel that they are at the Ranch breathing the cold air and enjoying the gorgeous scenery. This story will make you yearn for snow and hunky Montana cowboys and is guaranteed to get you in the mood for Christmas. I still get a warm and fuzzy feeling just thinking of it! This is the first book I’ve ever read by Melissa McClone, but I want to rectify that soon! Give yourself a dose of cinnamon and spice and pick up Home For Christmas soon!
Suggested Reading Order: The Bar V5 Dude Ranch series: Book #1 - HOME FOR CHRISTMAS (Rachel & Nate) Book #2 - MISTLETOE MAGIC (Caitlin & Noah) Book #3 - KISS ME, COWBOY (Charlotte/Charlie & Zack) Book #4 - MISTLETOE WEDDING (Meg & Ty) Book #5 - A CHRISTMAS HOMECOMING (Ellie & Josiah)
Copper Mountain Christmas series: Book #1 – A COWBOY FOR CHRISTMAS Book #2 – HOME FOR CHRISTMAS Book #3 – MISTLETOE MAGIC Book #4 – CHRISTMAS AT COPPER MOUNTAIN Book #5 – HER CHRISTMAS COWBOY
I like the premise. And this year I stocked up on Christmas stories leading up to the actual day as I wanted to get into the spirit (since everything's green outside!). The idea that a foreman's sister comes to a ranch/b&b kind of thing and she falls for the owner (and brother's BFF) was nice because, you know, tension! You know the bro will get a punch or two in. And the fact that she was a baker was also good, in my opinion.
But then.
I'm not exactly sure what happened. Okay, I understand that Rachel was played by people she trusted before this book. But I never actually saw anything wrong with the fact that Nate was helping her kick her business off the ground and in the process sort of weaseling his way into keeping her brother on the ranch so the siblings wouldn't relocate away. Alright yeah, maybe his motive wasn't 100% pure to begin with, but then once he fell for her, the reader could see that he genuinely wanted her to stay and just wanted to help. I got SO frustrated with Rachel going high and mighty and just deciding that she couldn't be with a man who has bent over backwards for her, and for her brother, but yeah, didn't start off with love in his heart.
The story promised to be good. But the heroine messed up bad at the end when I was hoping for a nice, clean, no-drama ending. Ergo, two stars.
This one had several things that I enjoy about romances: a ranch setting, a woman at a crossroads, Christmas, and even a main character that bakes. And the general idea behind the story is one that I can get behind. But this one just fell flat for me. Not sure if it is the characters or their dialogue, but it was just cheesy throughout. I held out hope, but now I'm just sad about it. I don't even feel like explaining any further than that.
This was a fun read! All the details of the gingerbread houses made me hungry but all their inner turmoil, trying to stay away from their budding romance, filled me up!
This was a new author to me and I enjoyed the audio version very much!
Welcome to a Christmas celebration in Marietta, Montana a small town that’s lively, down home and where anything romantic is certainly possible. Although Rachel could care less about that romantic part. She’s recently been crushed by the actions of so-called friends, and her belief in the actions of the human race have hit an all time low. It’s real easy to feel that way when all your dreams have been stolen from you – and we’re not talking figuratively here.
She’s come to spend Christmas with her brother, Ty at the Bar V5 Ranch for two reasons. Most importantly is they’re the only family they have left and to not spend Christmas with her brother is just… unthinkable. The second is her make or break career move which will involve using the ranch’s fully equipped kitchen for her gingerbread creations. She may have been played for a fool once – but never, ever again. She’ll stand on her own two feet, make her dream come true without any help from any one. Period, end of discussion.
Yet Rachel hadn’t counted on one smart, sexy rancher with some savvy marketing ideas to change that rule. Falling in love had never been part of her equation.
Nate knows what it’s like to lose or almost lose a dream. He’s been there, done that and survived. It doesn’t help matters that he’s really attracted to Rachel, but he also knows the rules – stay away from your business partner’s sister. Too bad he can’t convince his heart to follow that advise. Soon all he’s thinking of are ways to help Rachel with her business and keeping her here in Marietta to explore something more personally emotional between them. Trouble is, Nate set about winning Rachel with a business plan and spreadsheets. If he was going to win his lady’s heart he’d better come up with a more realistic plan.
I had such fun with Home For Christmas. Two extremely stubborn people, a woman who refuses to trust again and a man who, with the best of intentions, does everything wrong. They both learned a few lessons in getting Rachel’s gingerbread related business up and off to a great start. Probably the most important ones were being yourself and allowing trust to speak to your heart. Nate will make more than a few missteps along the way, and Rachel will not make it easy for him once he’s floundered… but they have that spark that says “yeah, you’re the one but I’m scared” and that gets me in the emotions every single time.
If you have a love for Christmas Romance, then Home For Christmas will certainly touch your heart. Lively characters, a down home small town, a story that could happen to anyone and you’ve got a winning combination. I’d recommend this story, and the entire series, which is full of Christmas Romance in 4 out of the 5 books in the series. Hard to beat that.
Songs for the soundtrack: "All I Want For Christmas Is You" by Mariah Carey, "Deck The Halls" by Julie Andrews, "Silent Night" by Reba McEntire
My rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️½👩🏼🍳🎄
My thoughts: 📱21%1:00:34 Ch. 3 - I love it! This is my second story by the author, I read Picture Perfect Love in February, and I'm hoping this one will be more exciting, as that was lacking in the other. Since that one was Christian Romance I'm assuming this one is at least Clean Romance, but we'll see.
Not Christian Romance but definitely Clean Romance. It could have been a lot better but I enjoyed it overall. The biggest issue is it reads like the Christmas special of a series, they give you background on how the guys connected but it still feels like you missed the first book in a series.
Recommend to others: Yes. This was fun.

Rachel Murphy was raised by her brother, Ty after the death of her parents. Rachel went to Culinary School. She lives in Arizona and had big hopes of opening her own bakery there. But she went into business with unscrupulous business partners and lost everything now she is visiting her brother in Montana for Christmas to try and redirect her life while vacationing. Dude ranch owner, Nate Vaughn is a venture capitalist. Ty is the Ranch Foreman. Ty arranges with Nate for Rachel to use his industrial kitchen to due her baking. Nate meets Rachel and their is immediate chemistry between them. But will the magic of Christmas be able to get her to stay in Montana and how would Ty react if she stayed??? Rachel starts baking gingerbread house plus making meals for those at the ranch. Soon Nate talks her into advertising her houses locally. It turns out to be a great success. Will Rachel be able to put her past behind and move Into the future? Will they be able to find real love? This is a heartwarming story with well defined, well fleshed out characters that are complex, interesting and colorful. Talented writing making the reader a part of their thanks experiences. A great a Christmas magic story. I volunteered to read Home for Christmas. Thanks to the author for the opportunity. My opinion is my own.
This story was pretty sweet. It is the 2nd book in the copper mountain Christmas and sets up in the same little town but explores different characters. It’s predictable in a sense but still very enjoyable.
This story was good. The characters were convincing. It had reasonable twists. My favorite of the series. You can stop after this one. The next one was absurdly short. The third one was implausible and the reviews I read of the fourth convinced me to stop.
This was well done for a novella. I understood the struggles and they made sense for the plot. There were times that I wasn't quite sure how things were going to work out.
I always enjoy sweet Christmas stories during the holidays and start reading them in early October. This is a sweet love story, but a bit too vanilla for me. The beginning started out exceedingly well and drew me in, but then I grew slightly frustrated with Rachel and Nate. I had a difficult time because both of them had a very hard time making up their minds.
Rachel comes to Montana to visit her brother, Ty and to lick her wounds. Her dreams of owning her own bakery are shattered, because a shady couple took advantage of her trusting nature and swindle her out of the money she had put down on a lease for one in Arizona. (By the way, Ty treats her as if she is still a teenager, instead of a twenty-six year old woman, and she lets him get away with it. I understand he has raised her since the death of their parents, but even parents, let their children spread their wings by the time they are twenty-six!)
Nate Vaughn finds Rachel in his kitchen and thinks Christmas has come early. He’s been good this year and deserves the hot gingerbread baking and the even hotter woman who is preparing it. He is immediately attracted to the cute, messy-haired blonde. When he discovers Rachel is Ty’s sister, he realizes he should have known it’s too good to be true. His foreman is very protective of his sister, and Nate knows that he needs to keep his hands off the beautiful woman, no matter how attracted he is.
That starts what I thought would be an interesting story line. The premise for this story is excellent. However, I like a bit more depth to the characters, and I do not feel that I was ever in their heads, so to speak. While I understand it is a sweet contemporary romance, that makes it even more important to have strong sexual tension. The chemistry between Rachel and Nate was not as strong as I would like it to be. When I read, I want to become engaged. I want to feel what the characters are feeling, see what they are seeing. That did not happen in the second half of the book for me.
Nevertheless, the book is well-written, and the pacing is good. I read the story in a few hours. I am also glad Rachel and Nate found their “Happily Ever After”. I read some of the reviews from other readers, and I am in the minority in my opinion of the story. The book has quite a few 4 and 5 star ratings. I can understand why there are so many great reviews. It is a very heart-warming story with a fulfilling HEA at the end. If you are looking for a sweet love story with a happy ending, then this may be a book you will want to read. There is a great scene with mistletoe that I quite enjoyed. Happy reading!
The snow was beautiful, but being dressed in a parka, hat and gloves was something that Rachel wasn’t used to. Born and raised in Arizona, Rachel was used to warmer weather. However, she agreed to spend this Christmas in Montana with her brother, Ty. Rachel has had a rough few months and could use a getaway. Trained in culinary arts, Rachel embarked on a business with a couple who she thought were her friends. It turned out that they were just out to take advantage of her. Rachel has since developed thick skin and is hesitant to trust people. But when Ty suggests that she make gingerbread houses replicating some of the landmark businesses in Marietta to advertise her skill, she thinks it may be a good idea. If she can make enough money selling her gingerbread to put down as a deposit for a new business, then her efforts would be worth it. But when she meets Nate, the owner of Bar V5 and the ranch where her brother works, his interest in her baking and business makes her question his motives. Although he is genuine with wanting to help her build her business, he’s selfishly hoping that she’ll also fall in love with Marietta and decide to stay. That’s when he puts together Operation: Hansel & Gretel. As the sales of Rachel’s gingerbread heats up, so does her thoughts and feelings for Nate. Will she be able to let down her guard and trust Nate? And will Nate succeed in getting Rachel to make Marietta her permanent home?
Home For Christmas by Melissa McClone is as inviting as a roaring fireplace on a cold winter’s day! From the first page to the last, I was captivated! The closeness of family, the joy of living in a small town, the excitement of new romance to bonding over the deliciousness of gingerbread, this book has all of the elements that I look for in a great book! Home For Christmas is a must read. Grab a hot mug of cocoa, curl up in your coziest blanket and enjoy this festive read!
This is the sweet Christmas romance of Rachel and Nate. Rachel's been burned by business partners, romance, but not in the kitchen. She can bake like nobody's business, and she puts all of her focus on making money to start fresh. Spending Christmas with her brother in Montana is a contrast to her life in AZ, and making gingerbread houses becomes a great way to earn seed money for a new bakery in AZ. Spending time with Nate is fun, but she has no intention in staying in Montana forever. Nate keeps getting in the way. And, he likes her baked goods. But, he's interfering with her plans, distracting, and a cowboy. And, he can kiss.
Nate, attracted to his business partner's sister, decides he needs to find a way to keep her in town permanently--to prevent his friend from leaving, and he's attracted to Rachel, too. She doesn't want business advice, so he cleverly schemes to help her without being obvious. However, secrets always backfire. He needs to let her make her own decisions, find her own way, and then, perhaps he'll have a date for New Year's Eve. For the first time, Nate has to put business second.
Rachel and Nate discover that changing tactics and expectations can lead to Love and Home.
Home for Christmas was a scrumptious read. The title alone makes me think of my own special memories of being home for Christmas. Melissa Mc Clone’s descriptions of Rachel’s yummy gingerbread houses and cookies had me wanting run out to the store to get the ingredients and bake some! I think I had a little drooling going on almost the whole time I read the story. Rachel and Nate were adorable characters that I was rooting for them to figure out they were meant to be together from the first moment we were introduced to them. Rachel has serious trust issues she needs to work through in order to move on and live her life the way she wants. Nate has always been successful and wants to make everything a win win for everyone, forgetting that people don’t work the same way. I loved this story and Mc Clone made me want to spend Christmas in Montana even though I am not fond of snow or winter! A sweet Christmas story and I would recommend to anyone who loves Romance and Christmas. I am looking forward to reading more stories from Melissa Mc Clone.
I LOVED this story. Beautifully written, great characters and the story just flows. One that has you upset when you get to the last page because you want more!!
Nate is ready for more in his life...a wife and family...but he can't seem to meet a woman he even wants a second date with. Then he meets Rachel. But there might be a problem...ok a few. Not to worry Nate has a plan. What could go wrong....
Montana Born street team arc review for a honest opinion
I loved this Copper mountain christmas story. A heartwarming book that grabbed me from the first page until the last and I wanted more when I was finished. Haven't read any of Melissa's book in the past but I'm looking forward to reading more now. I loved the characters in this book especially Nate and Rachel and how their story evolved. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves a good holiday romance.
Great, quick snowy day reading ... perfect during holiday time. Get cozy with a blanket by the fire and enjoy! Looking forward to checking out other books in this series.
I just about gave up on this book thinking it was heading down a bad road, but I was wrong. It was actually a clean Christmas romance, but one I'll likely forget by the time I finish my next book.
