“Love a good ghost story? So do I... or at least I did until my life became one. My name is Stone and this is my story. Let me take you on a trip back to when I had only one voice in my head, MY OWN!”
And with just those few words the doors to the Funhouse Of Horrors opened to the world.
Young Jacob, while on a family picnic, stumbles upon an old abandoned house in the woods just a week before Halloween. The wretched dwelling is being prepared to be used as a one-night only Haunted House! A strange worker, known only as Ole Scratch, sees Jacob 'Jake' Stone and gives him a book with two tickets inside that change his life — or what's left of it after the ghosts are done with him! And the ghosts are NEVER done with Jake.
As he grows, so does the terror. Deciding that the ghouls and goblins are never going to take a hint, and leave him to rest in peace, Jake Stone decides to become a ghost writer. It would seem that the living impaired have a lot to say. Yet legend has it, that all who read Stone’s tales of woe, begin to see the dead everywhere they go!

The Fun House of Horrors reads like an anthology that starts with a boy receiving a very special book, which enables him to see and hear ghosts. For them to leave, he has to write down their stories, that bind everything together. He fights it at first, but after a devastating event in his life, he decides to check the letters people have been sending his way. The stories will take you through different times and places. Jake will encounter different types of monsters. Some ghosts will be set free and some monsters will get what they deserve. As it is usually a case with anthologies, some stories are more interesting than others.
Wow I didn't think that I would find another author of this caliber, especially not an author of a free kindle book! I am a huge fan of Stephen King and James Herbert and dare I say it Jazan Wild with this book tells a story with the skill of either. I was kept transfixed from the first paragraph to the last. I will certainly be treating myself to more of his work.
2020 reading challenge (graphic novel) just like the title suggests, this is a fun book. I did read it on Kindle, which I think might have taken away from some of the art. The story is very solid. I like how the story continued, with breaks in between each story with author insights, drawing boards, etc.... I felt like a kid again reading a comic. Tons of fun
Fantastic! What can I say? It kept me up and entranced. It was scary and full of great side stories. I totally enjoyed this book. Please write more books like this, I'll be waiting. Thank you for the ride!
Great story and great fun! Some books - you know what’s going to happen before you finish the book - predictable. I hate when that BUT THIS BOOK WAS NOT PREDICTABLE BY ANY MEANS!!!!
While this isn't as enjoyable as the graphic novels, it is still a good read. It adds some more background the graphic novels with a bit more about Jacob and how he became embroiled in the House of Horrors as well as building on each of the stories in the series. I did miss the illustrations make up such a big part of the appeal of this series but it did still have the mix of horror and heartbreak that I like.
Reading through this collection again, my opinions pretty much remain the same. However this collection adds some unique things so if you have the individual comics this does have some behind the scenes stuff which you may like.
One of the things that I really liked in this collection is the Storyboard and Scripting sections at the end of each individual comic. It also includes a section called The History of a Good Scare after each comic which is a interview with the creators of each comic.
This is the version you want to get if you have never read any of them before. With all the added bonus items and such, it’s well worth it.
This isn’t another garden-variety ghost story. Don’t get me wrong, there are plenty of ghosts, but Wild dials up the weird on places most folks think they know, Area 51, he puts an interesting twist to this storyline and those old tales about the seven gates of hell in Pennsylvania, yep, another eerie tale that grabs your attention.
Not a short-story sampler here. Instead, you get Jacob Stone, a guy who sees ghosts and ghouls pretty much wherever he goes and who has flat-out had enough of the terror. So what’s a man to do? Become a ghostwriter, this comes courtesy of Ole Scratch, who hands Jacob the book that turns his normal life into a haunted circus.
The cast of characters and the parade of spooks make this one a real page-turner. The writing, it’s sharp and everything flows really nice. One compliant, when I hit the ending….that was a head-scratcher. I didn't feel it. So, I did what any good reader does: rewrote the finale in my own mind. If you need a book to kick off your spooky reading season, give this one a shot. Who knows, you might like the ending just fine.
For those who need to feel exciting terror, just starting turning the pages. Jazan Wild spins a tale of horror that pulls you in with gnarly claws, you'll want to stay until the last demonic syllable is read. Then you will feel an unholy yearning. Beware after devouring this frightful read. You will be crave for the next book to read.
I really love this one. I even forgot that I had read it before. I was halfway through the first chapter when I realized it was familiar, but I could not put it down. For me it was a fun book with what might be some scary stories for some people. I loved it and highly recommend it to anyone who is not afraid. Give this one a read or two.
Readers of Funhouse of Horror will not be surprised to learn that its author is known for his graphic novels. From the moment that Jake encounters Ole Scratch; the caretaker of a one night only haunted house, Wild’s prose is visual. The story of Funhouse of Horror is not something I’ve read before but the terror is reminiscent of a child’s reoccurring dream that once experienced enough can be manipulated slightly so that the subject adjusts gradually to the setting and is eventually able to cope if not look forward to the events sure to unfold.
Wild brings readers an individual work that could have been written a bit smoother but, really, that’s nitpicking. If you’re looking for a good holiday read that’s a little different and like the work of directions like Hershel Gordon Lewis of “2,000 Maniacs,” pick this one up today and give it a try. You may not be frightened but you will be entertained.
The Funhouse of Horrors is an average read. There’s definitely some potential here but it suffers from some bad pacing. There are some stories that are fun to read, a few that a little scary and some that really overstay their welcome. The main character, Jake wasn’t very likable in my book but the stranger that traps him in this cursed life, Ole Scratch is very entertaining to read. basically a pretty good story, but could use some work. Stuff like dialog from Scratch's story of how he acquired the book. Just didn't seem to fit the time period. The story just sort of dragged for and I'm not quite sure why.
It was different for a horror novel, i really enjoyed the characters (my favorite having to be Ole' Scratch) he just made me laugh and the way that Jake Stone is portrayed through the different years is a good thing as well as it makes the reader feel like they are going through his life with him.
I really enjoyed this graphic novel. The first story is the least interesting of the stories in my opinion, so if you do not like it I would say at least give the second story a try! This graphic novel is humorous, original, and looks great.
