Jill Patten was born a Yankee, but raised a southerner. She lives in the small town of Mayberry, North Carolina which was made famous by a popular TV show back in the sixties. (Maybe there will one day be a statue of her at the end of Main Street. Ha! A girl can dream, right?)

Jill has always loved to read, even during reading labs in middle school for reading comprehension. Judy Blume was her first author she hero-worshipped, maturing to revere the works of Stephen King. With all the fantastic authors today, she simply cannot choose a favorite. Her taste is very eclectic and she loves almost all genres. When she's not captivated by her fictional characters, she spends time with her sweet husband and two beautiful children.

Music is her muse. Jill also loves elephants, sarcasm, and anything made with sugar, especially sweet tea. She enjoys all things rude and crude and laughs at stuff she probably shouldn't. She has been accused of being bossy a time or two, but doesn't really see it herself.

All in all, Jill is just a small town girl in this great big world trying to enable your book addiction.

Oh, and if you read her book, please leave her a review - good or bad, she'll love you forever.

I want this desperately....:(

==================================
Review to come. Loved this book full of so much angst and sexual tension!
==================================

My only disappointment is that this has ended. I absolutely loved Secrets Unveiled. I'll tell you a little story. A couple of months ago when Toxic Secrets came out, I had a reviewer on my blog that had taken the job of reading and reviewing the book for the blog tour.

Well...the day before the blog tour I still wasn't able to get a hold of her so I took it upon myself to read and review the book for my designated day. Best decision ever and I didn't even blink an eye that I only had a day to finish it. I was in love.

I finally got my greedy hands on Secrets Unveiled and dropped everything to read.

Let me tell you when I started this book...I could NOT put it down. The angst...oh my Lord, it made my heart race. I found myself holding my breath at times and then I found myself wanting to choke a ho. No joke.

If you remember in Toxic Secrets all the secrets that got left unanswered as well as Courtney being preggers...well you haven't seen anything yet until you read this one.

I can't really go into too much detail because I don't want to be giving any plot devices away. But Jaxon and Courtney have had one hell of a rude.

You like drama? Good, there's tons in SU.

You like sizzling hot sexual chemistry? Well hell yeah you came to the right book.

Hot boy? Check check check

Did I want to throw my iPad out the window at times? Ummm YES!!!

Good plot? Yup

Characters? Fun and endearing

Jaxon and Courtney's story is heartbreaking. Don't go into the story thinking that it's all going to be easy, it's not. My heart felt for them. It's up to you to find out his their story ends.

*ARC kindly given by the author in exchange for honest review*

I read Toxic Secrets when I signed up for the blog tour. I went in blind and had no clue what I was getting myself into. After I read it, I was like WTF?! Did Jill seriously leave my ass hanging like that?! Yep....she did. Cliffhangers suck FYI....and sometimes they suck so good! So I started stalking Jill's author page for every little drop of Secrets Unveiled that I could find. I finally wore her down and she offered me an ARC.

SUCCESS! :)

So I jumped right in and right off the bat she had me ready to throw my kindle.(I love when a book makes me wanna do that) I am an angst-whore, gotta have the anticipation of the unknown. I love when I get into the story so much it makes my heart pound, or drop to my toes, which it does in this book. The ending...

This book isn't sunshine and roses. It is a tale of heart-ache and 2 lost friends trying to heal and start a future together full of hidden secrets. I won't give you a play by play because you've read the synopsis and know what you're getting yourself into, especially since you need to have read book 1. Just know that I'm in love with this series and can't wait to see what else Jill has in store for us.

Here is my favorite quote from Mr. Jaxon

Book Review - Secrets Unveiled by Jill Patten

4 1/2 Gah can anyone say selfdestruct stars ***** 1/2

Secrets Unveiled is the second in the series and should be read after Toxic Secrets. It cannot be read as a standalone novel imo.

If you’ve not read Toxic Secrets and don’t want to spoil it for yourselves, look away now.

So Toxic Secrets left us in a mess. Literally. Courtney pregnant to the horrid Philip and being blackmailed into sending Jaxon away - no-one was happy.

We rejoin Courtney a month after the events of Toxic Secrets, and to say we join her at an unhappy time
would be an understatement.

However, things change and move so that she can make the decision to go and see Jaxon and see if
she can salvage their relationship.

Jaxon is a mess. He’s one big black pit of despair, losing himself in women, drink and drugs, and trying to escape the sorrow that gnaws through his bones:

“My loneliness was swallowing me into the depths of perdition. Hell fed on all the black and grey that crept through my being.”

Poor Jaxon and poor Courtney, because when she journeys to find Jaxon it’s not quite the happy reunion
she expected. Jaxon is a master of his own destruction and there are people along the way willing to give him a helping hand so that Courtney and him do not reunite.

I say poor Courtney, as there were quite a few times I really felt for her, but then she’d ruin it by saying something like this:

(On the phone to Kendra who hasn’t been able to go with her because of commitments but who has phoned
to check on her)

Kendra - “Hey, i’m still here. I may not actually be there, but i’m still here whenever you need me.”

Whiney (aka Courtney) - “I know. It just would’ve been nice to have your support through this.”

Woah - step back a second. Your friend told you why she couldn’t come but has phoned first thing to check in on you, despite what she’s got going on. Selfish much?!!!!

So now, she’s here and her and Jaxon can surely sort stuff out right? Wrong, and for this I am really grateful to the author. It was brilliant to see a portrayal of someone stuck in a cycle of substance abuse and how nothing would be happy heart and fluffy days whilst someone is going through that. Jaxon’s story is down, dirty and gritty and a perfect example of self destruction. He has everything he’s ever wanted turn up on his doorstep and he’s too much of a mess to sort it.

I’m not going to give anymore of the story away, except to say I was still guessing how it was going to end on the very last pages, and I was getting ready to hit Jill with a very heavy paperback next week in Edinburgh if it went the way I could see if going.

You’ll be relieved to hear in the end, she saved herself a headache.

If you want a story about youth where it isn’t all hearts and flowers all the way, and live doesn’t just throw you one lemon, but dumps a whole load on your head, I thoroughly recommend this series.

I love books that challenge me as a reader. And i’d include this one amongst them. No always comfortable to read but another fine work of art from Mrs Patten.

The secrets unveiled were very surprising. I am deeply saddened by Jaxon' s addiction since I have dealt with a loved one's for many years. I can sympathize with Courtney and Troy there and that is all I have to say about that. It's a good thing certain characters got what was due to them (karma is a b____). Jill's writing style is enjoyable to read - looking forward to future stories!

5 jaw dropping stars.
Where do I start?
I liked the first book it was good even if it seemed to drag a bit here and there but my oh my I freakin LOVED this book. This is basically Jaxon's story picking up a month after book one. I'm quite shocked at some of the revelations in this book. Some things were predictable some were totally out of the blue and real shockers.
Courtney matured a lot from book 1 to book 2 she doesn't seem to be an 18 year old girl anymore. She's gone through so much already and more things are thrown at her and you can really feel for her and her heartache and in a way I can understand her reactions to what happens in her life and some times I just wanted to slap her!
Jaxon is still his cocky arogant self but oh so charming. Which always works in his favor and gets Courtney to give him second chance when he didn't do anything to deserve them but be his sexy self. Even if he's the king of mood swings throughout the book and can be an ass most of the time I could really feel his pain.
We find out Jaxon's story his life, past, present and future, which I really enjoyed to get a second book and know the rest of the story but it being Jax's story was really cool and so well written. Some bits were very rushed especially the end. It goes from present to one year later to three years later but you don't really get what happens in between (even if it's explained quickly in the epilogue) I would have liked even a third book to give what happens between the present and the epilogue (and also just because I can't get enough of Jaxon!)
Overall it was an amazing read, very touching, well written and left me wanting more of their story.
"The life you live is the life you choose. You may not always get everything yo uwant, but you learn how to make the most of what you have, and that's what I learned to do." Jaxon Vaugh

Secrets Unveiled (Secrets #2)

by Jill Patten
After the major cliffhanger that ended book 1 (Toxic Secrets) I have been looking forward to reading book 2 ever since. The story continues about Jaxon and Courtney and it doesn't disappoint!! Courtney has been through so much and her suffering continues throughout this book.

This one is still full of angst and much to my delight is also a lot more sexier than the first with lots more detailed sex scenes.
I am loving the characters even more and Courtney has to be one of my favourite lead female character just because she is such a likeable character and even after everything she has been through she just carries on. Jaxon is a bit messed up in this one but just because he isn't perfect doest make him any less appealing. I did feel at times I wanted to give him a shake to make him see sense but he certainly has plenty of depth to him.
I found that I cried a lot during this book and I was sobbing after I had finished, it certainly stirred up some feelings for me and can't really explain without spoiling the plot. This is very well written and will keep you guessing the entire time and by the time you have finished it will grab hold of your heart and have you falling in love with this fantastic love story.
It flows altogether very nicely and answers and wraps up the story very well and everyone gets what they deserve!!

The more books I read from this author the more I love her writing and is without a doubt one of the authors I would drop everything to read her latest book.

Wow! Words can barely describe the way I feel about the Second part to this series.

If I thought the first one was great, the second novel was fantastic! Jill Patten really out did her self with the conclusion to this series. The second book starts off right where the first one ended, And we join Courtney go through a life altering change only to have everything change on her again, I Can’t tell you how much I enjoyed this book I honestly couldn’t put it down till the last page, there is so much drama, angst, heartache and betrayal in this book, Half of the stuff that occurred I didn’t even see coming.

Courtney made a choice that she regretted with Jaxon and decided to surprise him in California with the good news that Phillip her abusive verbally and mentally ex boyfriend and his evil Mother are out of her life forever and never coming back, Skip to Courtney deciding to go to her bar to find him and tell him the good news only to find him with another woman so she leaves only to come back the following day and confront him at his bar in front of everyone as you can imagine that ends up bad and a lot of things go down hill from there, Courtney finds out a lot of new surprising information on Jaxon and she gets a tip from someone that she looks exactly like Jaxon’s dead girlfriend and finally see’s the evidence! Things just get juicier and juicier from there.

I will most certainly read anything Jill Patten write’s again! Read the book I promise you wont be sorry by any means!

This book was a definite emotional roller-coaster. It is full of angst, heartbreak, misunderstandings, addiction and dependency issues.

Jaxon is a twisted young man with a haunting past. After losing everyone he's ever loved, he's battled addictions. He has a couple of trusted friends that keep trying to set him on the straight and narrow to save him from himself. While on a previous trip out of state, Jaxon falls for the young and beautiful Courtney.

Courtney is young and in a precarious situation. She has just left a troubling relationship, but can't be completely free of it yet. Meanwhile she meets Jaxon and has learned what love really feels like. With her previous relationship hanging over her like a death sentence, she is left with no other choice but to push Jaxon away.

After going through hell, Courtney has been freed and wants to go after Jaxon. When she flies across the country, she never prepared for what she would find. Jaxon has slipped off his straight and narrow and fallen into an ugly repeat of his past. Jaxon has been self medicating in every way he can and Courtney doesn't know how to handle it all. It doesn't help when someone sends Courtney some heartbreaking background info on Jaxon that blows her mind.

After Courtney and Jaxon both battle through hell, can they find their way back to each other and make a go of their young love? Find out in Secrets Unveiled!

Well I totally needed my hand held with this book; seriously don’t remember the last time I was scared to read a book. (I guess people wishing me luck didn’t help though)
This story tugged on my heart strings for so many reasons. My heart broke for Jaxon time and time again, in the first book Jaxon was still pretty much a mystery, but here in SU we learn more about him due to all Courtney’s digging. I thought I was in love with him from the first book but by the end of this book I loved him so much more,
I loved Courtney in this book she grew up and started doing what was best for her and not others, I really enjoyed watching her grow.
I am not gonna lie there was some serious ugly crying happening towards the end of this book, like I said before it broke my heart.
SU is beautifully written and I am so happy for the epilogue, I don’t think I would have been able to forgive Jill if she left the story at the end of chapter 27.
If you love books full of angst that make your heart hurt a little (a lot) then this is the book for you.
I give a well-deserved 5 tear stained stars.

Ok .... So I received my copy from the author....

I dont know where to start reviewing this book .. I loved the first one so much.... We rejoin Jax & Courtney a month after the end of the first book and life carries on from there.

There is alot of sexual tension with J & C and a lot of heartache with a re-appearance of Jaxon's demons.... but with Court's constant questions we learn a wee bit about him every chapter....

I found parts of the book hard to take as I have personal family experiences of people with drug abuse problems. I did wonder in parts what was going to happen as I am aware Jill is not a fan of the HEA...but I am perfectly happy with the ending - just glad she wrote an epilogue, coz if it had finished at the end of chapter 27, well I wouldnt be responsible for my actions.

A fantastic conclusion to the story of Jaxon & Courtney.
Thanks for letting me read this Jill.

I loved this book. It made me mad, sad and made me hold my breath to the point of almost passing out!! Poor Jaxon, I felt all the emotions he had and my heart just ached for him. I love Courtney so much more in this book b/c she finally had a back bone. Jaxon and Court's love for each other was sweet, heart breaking and.....well I'm not giving away the ending. This is a must read. I just want to know, where can I find a man like Jaxon. (in my younger days)

You will not be disappointed in the story and Jill makes you feel and ride all the emotions these 2 go through.

Although I enjoyed this book, I felt the characters in tihis book were very immature for such a adult like situation. And considering everything he has been through you would think he would have been a bit more mature, mature enough to know that she was not for him! JMO :)

Well good on the author for improving since the first book. I read them one after the other and the writing was improved. Still dragged out and there was no need for two books. Should have been one and then it may have actually been worth the money! Not sure I would read this author again.
