I received this book in exchange for an honest review (LoP or Lovers of Paranormal)
From the moment, S. Cu’Anam Policar, teased me with **this book contains coarse language, sex, death, and at least one scene some may find offensive. It is not recommended for readers under the age of 18** I was intrigued. I thought this is my kind of book. And this author delivered. I got sex, death, and coarse language, but I was not offended.
The author created a unique world with very interesting paranormal creatures and gave them a new spin. But I was confused initially. It took me a few pages well to really immerse myself into the story. The first few pages were filled with descriptions of the paranormal creatures which inhabit the fantasy world among other descriptions. To say I was overwhelmed is an understatement. Several times I had to flip back to the beginning to refresh myself on the terms and this pulled me away from the story.
I adore world building and paranormals, so I loved the concept of the realm which felt fresh and exciting, and the uniqueness of the creatures. But as some characters were introduced I kept thinking I am missing a story or some background that came before. I felt that keenly.
However with that out of the way I found myself enjoying the book. The plot in itself was not incredible, but it was solid. It was somewhat predictable from the main characters and the villain got introduced. But the author revealed it in such a fast paced way, it kept me turning the pages. Her description and narration was very good. Several times though I felt as if too much things were happening at the same time.
I did not really connect with Katalina DarkLaw. Even her anguish in the end did not really draw me in. I was not even sure if I cared about what she was enduring. But I connected deeper with Silver. It was through Silver that I could care about Katalina. I really didn’t find it believable how soon they fell for each other. But then, with the premise of mating being instinctive it was explained. I wished for more time with the main characters. It is with this need in me to know more, I know I would read the sequels.
Overall I rate this book 3.5 star.
