When I'm With Jesus: For any Child with a Loved One in Heaven

Rate this book
Children wonder about Heaven, especially when someone they love goes there. They have questions they are often afraid to ask to grieving adults. When I'm With Jesus is created to minister to young children and older children, with large text for young readers or as a read-to book, and smaller text for older readers.
Beautifully illustrated, When I'm With Jesus is a book that helps children see a loved one's transition to Heaven as a joyful thing, and know they are still loved, even when that person is no longer near.

There shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain.
Revelation 21:4

When I’m with Jesus
By Kimberly Rae

I just loved the book. Kimberly wrote this book very well. So hard when a loved one dies. A child has a very hard time understanding the loss of a parent or a loved one.
This book would help any child with the death of a loved one. I loved the Biblical way
Kimberly told about death and going to Heaven. A child or loved one will understand
our time on earth may have ended but we will have a eternal life in Heaven. Through
the love of Christ. Phyllis Keels (Illustrator) did a wonderful job. A child would love the pictures. This is a must have book. I know I want it, Thanks for giving me this to review and giving my own honest review. 5 star

This book is biblically sound, comforting, well written. The only reason I didn’t give it five stars, my children were not ready for it. The 3 yo, both 5 year olds and 7 yo, were not able to sit through it.

When we have a need, I will read it again.

I've only had two children's books in my lifetime that have made me cry - The Velveteen Rabbit and I'll Love You Forever. I can now add a third book to that list - When I'm With Jesus by Kimberly Rae.

What do you do when someone you love dies? How do you cope? More importantly, how do you help a child cope with loss, especially the loss of a parent? Kimberly Rae, author of Sick & Tired wondered how her children would deal with her loss, should she die. Now, you might think, "What a morbid thing to dwell on!" But Kimberly had good reason. You see, she has Addison’s disease, asthma, hypoglycemia, scoliosis, and a cyst on her brain. Dying therefore, was something she had to prepare herself for. In the process she also had to prepare her children. The result was a beautiful little book that I believe every parent should have on their shelf.

Full colour illustrations take the child through the steps of dealing with their grief. In a gentle, heart-warming way, Kimberly leads the child to realize that they will always be loved by the one who is gone and that the one who is gone is still alive, but in heaven with God. Written in first person, this book is like a love letter to a child from the parent who has passed. Topics discussed are what the parent will do when they get to heaven, how life will be for the child and the emotions they will deal with. Always the emphasis in the book is how the parent still loves the child and encourages them to trust God and talk to Him during their loss.

The book has scripture verses throughout and at the back of the book a section on what it is like in heaven. If you have a child who has lost a parent, do them a favour and get them this book. I believe it will bring them comfort and give you a chance to talk with them to help them process what has happened. Sure to be a classic, I give When I'm With Jesus:For Any Child With a Loved One in Heaven 5/5 stars!

Simple, thorough and honest

This book was written and illustrated simply in a way that connects with young children. It gives the truth about death and heaven from both perspectives without fluff that is unrealistic that would cause future doubt. This book gave me a good way to discuss this topic with my kids while providing scripture references. The best part is that it doesn't leave you without hope, but instead shows the true way to heaven with God.
