This collection of posts and essays have been on my mind for just about a decade, and I've finally completed reading this book.

I found out about it originally while taking courses on building curriculum for adult training/learning and it's become a mental model for me during turbulent times of my life, professionally as well as personally.

The central thesis is fusing the Virginia Satir Change Model (Late status quo -> resistance -> chaos -> integration -> new status quo) together with Don Gray et. al's model of change (Center -> Enter -> Turn -> Sustain). These concepts fuse together very well, with my personal observation that the models are cyclical and non-linear.

I am going through a time of immense personal change, and these models helped me to make a bit of sense of it all, and to plan a bit. I can tell I'm in the maelstrom of the Turn, while knowing that having gone through Center, Enter, and to expect that there will be a followup Sustain phase coming.

It's an interesting model, worth the time to think about it.

Some parts of the book talk about software development, etc, just skip the ones that seem too tied to the authors' client work and focus on the models.

The book change artistry is a collection of essays from Esther Derby, Don Gray, Johanna Rothman and Gerald M. Weinberg. The essays cover a variety of topics to support professionals in developing their organizational change skills. Change artistry combines the Satir’s Congruence Model with an Aikido framework to help organizations to change in a positive way.
