29번째 생일날, 아마리는 절망적인 삶에 지쳐 자살하려는데 죽을 용기마저 없다. 티비에 비친 화려한 라스베이거스를 보고 1년 후 그곳에서 죽기로 결심한다. 현재 벌이로는 턱없이 부족해서 호스티스와 누드모델 등 고수익 알바를 병행한다. 악착같이 모은 돈으로 29살의 마지막 시간을 라스베이거스에서 맞이하게 된다. 실화를 바탕으로 한, 작가 아마리 본인의 이야기.

책은 서른을 D-Day로 삼아, D-11개월, D-6개월 등 시기별로 장을 구분한다. D-7의 장을 읽었던 날은 공교롭게도 나도 만 30살이 되기 7일 전인 날이었다. 같은 시기를 보내고 있는 아마리와 나. 묘하게 격려 받는 기분이 들었다. 나 스스로도 이런 격려가 필요했는지 몰랐지만, 가장 밑바닥의 삶에서 아마리는 너무나도 따듯하고 진심 어린 위로와 공감을 전해주었다. 클리셰가 많긴 하지만 식상하지는 않다. 뻔한 메시지들이 아마리만의 이야기를 통해 전해져서 오히려 새롭게 와닿는다.
