Erin Porter is a 36 year old pediatric surgeon. Past heartbreaks have left her guarded and obtuse toward all things love and relationship related. She has plenty of boy toys to scratch her “itch” when needed but does not have, nor is she looking for anything serious or long term. At least not until Josh and Mike enter her life. She meets them both around the same time but one is sensitive and affectionate while the other is sensual and passionate. Meeting them both cause her to examine not only what she wants but who she is. She sets out on a quest to discover her truest self in the hope of overcoming her past and determining with whom she will step into her future. Both men stand by her through some very difficult times but who will be beside her when she faces the greatest challenge of her life? Will it be Joshua with his strong, quiet sensitivity or will it be Mike with his passion and zeal for life? Erin struggles to decide between what her heart needs and what her body craves but fate steps in and tips the scales.
I just finished reading "When Love Calls" and all I can say is, WOW!! I enjoyed being introduced to the main character, Erin. Her journey to maturity intrigued me and made me root for her. The book was a VERY EASY read. The characters practically jumped off the page. I read the book in 2 1/2 days which says ALOT. I could not put it down. I found myself getting lost in the pages and looking forward to the story unfolding. I can't wait for the next one.
When Love Calls is Anja Pruitt's debut novel and I have to say she did a great job with it. I found it to be well written and some of the characters hardships were totally relatable. The characters are very likable and all hold a significant part in the development of the story line.
Erin is a 36 year old pediatric surgeon. She jumps from guy to guy, never being able to commit to just one. When she finally decides that she wants more for her life. She wants to love someone and to be loved in return. But more than anything she wants the chance to have a family. And she realizes that if she continues down the same road she is currently on, that will not happen. When she realizes that she does not love her job, she decides to take a leave of absence, to explore more about herself and try new things. She finds a bucket list that she wrote several years earlier and decides that she is going to complete it. With the help of her amazing girlfriends, she sets out to find out who she truly is.
Along the way she meets Mike and Josh, both men awaken her desire to have more in her life. But when Mike and her lose touch, she decides to put everything she has into making a relationship with Josh work. Only to find out that Josh has demons of his own that he needs to deal with. Thinking that space is the best ting for both of them, they take a break. It is then that Mike comes back into the picture and Erin really needs to decide if she can see a future with either of these men.
When Love Calls is a story about friendship, letting go, freedom to be who you truly are and above all love. Not just the love that you have for someone else of the love that they give you in return, but learning to love yourself and realizing that it is ok to make mistakes and that you need to forgive yourself for decisions that you made in your past. With the help of a great therapist and an amazing cast of friends and two very hot men, Erin embarks on an adventure to truly learn who she is and what she wants out of her life.
I really enjoyed this book. Well written and heartfelt, and unique, I highly recommend it. Well done Anja! I am excited to see what you come up with next.
I received an ARC for a honest review. This book rocked me on so many levels that I almost don’t know where to start! Let’s start with the writing. It was flawless. The author ‘s writing style absolutely flowed. The narration and dialog perfectly conveyed every emotion and scene. The story’s focus would seem to be about a subject that I am not generally comfortable with (love triangle). So let me address this issue. Yes, there is a love triangle. But both Josh and Mike are truly good, loving men who offer Erin different aspects to her life. Should she have slept with both of them – who is to judge? It is life and it happens and she had to deal with the fallout from those decisions. But this story is not just a love triangle. It is about a strong woman in her early thirties discovering herself and what she wants/needs in life. It is a woman facing the demons of her past. It is a woman, at the top of her career (pediatric surgeon), who decides to step down to pursue the bucket list of all the things she never allowed herself to try before. It is the story of a woman who is no longer letting life push her one way or the other; it is her stepping up and saying “this is MY life”. It is also a book about friendships. We are introduced to Erin’s friends who take this incredible journey with her without judgment. I went into this reading expecting to feel nothing more than just to get to the end so I could chalk up another book to review; I came out of this reading experience with emotions swirling and feeling of admiration for Erin and what she discovered about herself. To the author, that means what you set out to accomplish has happened. You moved me!
Making choices and self discovery are the dilemmas Erin is faced with in this book. Erin is a successful surgeon who has met two wonderfully handsome and successful men. Josh is a University professor that has some skeletons in his closet that he has yet to deal with and Mike is a musician and works in a garage but has other aspirations. Josh is tender and mild whereas Mike is assertive and spicy. Erin feels that together they would make the perfect man. But which one does she choose.
In order to deal with her past and her present Erin takes a hiatus from being a surgeon to work on a bucket list in hopes of discovering herself and which man would be best for her.
This book starts off slow but gains momentum and is filled with back and forth angst between Erin the two men. I liked how towards the middle and the end you started to root for those characters and because I felt invested, it made me want to read to the end to see whom she chose and what direction she would take for her life.
I really enjoyed the book, the author writes in such a great way that makes this reading flawless and so easy you just read it in one sit.
Erin's life is interesting to say the least, her choices and issues to self discovery makes it quite real. Erin as a pediatric surgeon who meets two great guys making it a triangle love story got me, on one side Josh the University professor and on the other Mike the musician. But, there is also her life where she decides to pursue her own bucket list of everything she never allowed herself to do. There is also the friends, that show her what true friendship is.
This story had great innovative elements that just drags you in. I totally recommend it, the characters are amazingly good built and the plot line is great. Just give it a shot, you won't regret it and will be certain that you will be moved as I did.
I will be looking forward to reading more stories from Anja Pruitt.
To start off I have to say that for a debut novel, this author wrote a good job with likeable drawn out characters and an engaging story line.
I connected with Erin from the get-go and understood her reluctance to commit to just one guy. Of course some of her choices may not be ones I'd make but I could empathise with her frame of mind. I also connected with her yearning to have her own family and the realisaton that she would have to change her behaviour if that was ever goign to happen.
And just when she's going 'straight' two men come along, Mike and Josh, both yummy and tempting in their own ways and also with their own baggages. And of course she has to make a choice.
This is a great story and I enjoyed this author's voice. It is well written and has some life lessons for us all as well as entertaining too.
A good story with various original elements that'll surely draw any fans of the genre right into its pages!
Erin is in her 30's, successful and very...unfulfilled. She's had dreams, goals and various expectations of herself but left them all just sit and stew after experiencing a couple of traumatizing events in her life. Now she's caught in a love triangle and has been newly awaken in many ways. Erin has some serious decisions and changes to make, but can she actually do them all?
By the way the book ended, it seems as if this is to be the first of a series. I'm not sure if it's a cliffhanger per say because all of the main aspects were all covered. It's just one of those endings that leave a lot to the readers imagination... A 3.5 rounded to a 4 rating.
Anja Pruitt wrote a real book about real life. This book was not a happily ever after. This book was about people who make mistakes, act selfishly, and irresponsible. Then, they learn from them and grow up. The first couple of chapters had the reader concerned about the integrity of the female character. As the character develops, she becomes real. The author does an outstanding job introducing the problems and the characters excuses for her problems. I think this author could tell the story again from another characters standpoint and cause the reader to hate the female character. Erin Porter finds herself in her 30s and alone. Erin has no family. She barely knows the people she calls her friends. She is a successful surgeon who is not happy with her job. It is almost as if she is experiencing mid-life crisis early. Erin decides she wants a relationship. This is when she begins to date Joshua Griffin. Joshua Griffin has his own personal demons to deal with. They come into this relationship needing each other but not healed enough to handle a relationship. Josh is the good guy. He is sensitive, forgiving, and always there. Mike Larza comes into Erin’s life unexpectedly. He comes off as a mysterious and bad. Erin and Mike have an undeniable sexual chemistry. Erin in her attempt to have a relationship with Josh cheats on him with Mike. At first the reader could hate Erin for allowing herself to cheat or hate Mike for pushing it. Yet, the author reveals problems in the relationship with Josh that shows the human side of things. Forgiveness is difficult in real life and sometimes in book life too. The ability to grow, learn, and forgive are powerful things. These are things that at some point we all have to face. The author allows the reader to go through these things with the characters. Watching the growth of the characters is a wonderful and powerful thing. The different emotions this book brings out is what people read for. Great book. I would recommend it to any reader.
Erin is smart, sexy, and successful. But her life is missing something. She finds herself at an emotional crossroads when she meets super-hot Mike after her car breaks down. The attraction is intense. Then she runs into Josh at the hospital. He's such a nice guy, so reliable and sweet. But she's wild and impulsive. Her life has very few rules.
When her one night stand with Mike leaves her feeling empty, she knows her life needs more stability, She gives Josh a chance. Dating him is like a dream come true. He's kind and compassionate, everything a woman should want... but why doesn't she feel that spark?
WHEN LOVE CALLS is full of passion, fueled by Erin's soul-searching desire to have a life and career that feels right inside her heart. t is a journey toward truth. She has to look deep inside herself and sometimes it isn't pretty. But when she makes the choice to step away from her career, she begins to see herself differently. The pieces fall into place.
The past is hard to let go of, hard to forget. But she wants to be happy, to live a life with beauty instead of wild chaos. It's a rough road toward the truth and Erin has to make some tough decisions. Change isn't easy. But sometimes taking that leap of faith and trusting your own heart is worth it!
Who loves a good old fashion love triangle? How about self discovery? A pediatric surgeon in a relationship with a Professor and a Musician, now that is hot!
This is the book for you and such a refreshing first debut novel from this fantastic up and coming author. I will update this post later with some favorite quotes.
I had the privilege of receiving a gifted copy for an honest review for a Blog Tour.
I gave this book 3-star because despite everything that happened in Erin's life, she failed to gain my sympaty. In fact, I felt deeper for what Josh had been through and hated how things ended.
Erin Porter is a 36 year old pediatric surgeon living in Chicago, living a life that is guarded except from her closest of friends. After her meeting Josh and Mike around the same time Erin starts her journey on self discovery and wonders if her current life is really what she wants or is it what she chose because of loosing her sister tragically as a child. Josh is a sexy 30 year old professor who has is own dark past but is willing to work towards a future with Erin and Mike a 35 year old, hunky, sexy Triple AAA employee by day, musician at night and a fulltime widower and father, has is own goal in winning her heart. These women are her lifeline and help her navigate through her life as she tries to get over her past, pain suffered from her childhood and college years and to help find the real Erin Porter, will she finally find her true happiness after her life changes drastically? This is Anja Pruitt’s debut novel and I have to say I loved it and she did an amazing job. The book read very well and before I knew it, it was over, leaving me wanting to know more. Anja did leave a small cliffhanger in the end which prompted me to visit her page to find out what other books she will be writing and to my surprise she is now heading back to her laptop, writing a sequel, “When Love Waits”, so I will definitely be looking to read that book when it comes out. This book is a great read, and I have friends that are just like Erin Porter so it may this book that much more enjoyable for me.
Anja Pruitt's debut book When Love Calls was a surprise for me. Honestly I wasn't sure if I was going to enjoy it as much as I did. I have to say for a debut book I was totally impressed with the storyline, characters and the concept of the book.
Erin the main character is 36 years old and and a pediatric surgeon. She appears to have issues when it comes to having a commitment with the opposite sex. Her problem is that she goes from one man to another without ever giving any man one more than a second to prove anything to her.
Apparently she decides that it's time to make a change and find a relationship that will last more than five minutes and find love, have a family and be happy. Erin decides to make a bucket list of what she wants to do with her life and the first thing on her that list is she takes a leave of absence from her job that she is over.
In the wake of her journey she meets Josh and Mike. These two men make her feel things that she never imaged ever feeling and so begins Erin's quest on the road to discovery. Can she have a relationship with Josh or Mike and is either man the right man for her.
The story deals with learning about finding yourself and those who are involved in your life and learning to give and take without ever feeling empty.
I just finished reading When Love Calls and the word that pops into my head is AMAZING... This book pulls you in from page one and does not let you go until the end. To follow Erin's journey in love was a amazing read. This was a book about real life issues that I will be recommending to people.
