When Ben and Axel settled in Santa Cruz, they thought they’d finally get some peace.
They were wrong.
An old pack war is brewing, and two local werewolves need their help.
Quinton Santos and Gage Varela are the only remaining wolves from the once great Westside pack. As a dangerous threat resurfaces, they need an alpha to lead their pack. But Gage and Quinton are only beta wolves.
Even worse, they can hardly stand each other.
Gage knows the rich and arrogant Quinton is his mate. While giving into his desire for the beautiful man is easy, Gage isn’t about to fall in love.
Quinton used to be confident, but the fire that killed his family left scars deeper than those on his skin. He knows Gage is the stronger wolf, and he’s worked hard to prove he’s not weak. But no matter what Quinton does, Gage only sees him as rich and useless.
When the leader of the rival Eastside pack, a destructive alpha hell-bent on killing them, attacks, they need Axel and Ben’s help to defeat him. Axel and Ben work to bring their new pack together, but it isn’t easy with two betas who are at each others throats.
After years of hurt, can Gage and Quinton let go of the darkness in the past and forgive enough to fall in love?

Truthfully, I wasn't planning to read this book. I was more interested in reading book #3 - Break - because I though I'd enjoy that sweet love story more than this book.
But, I tried to read Break before this and understood Nothing. I was clearly missing a lot of the development of the backstory; so there I went and read this book.
AND, I have to say, I liked this a Lot more than I was expecting.
This is the continuation of Ben and Axel's story. BUT, it also introduces Gage and Quinton as characters and tells us their story.
Gage and Quinton are Beta Wolves of the same Pack... and Mates... and they Hate each other.
Quinton Santos is the middle son of their Pack's Alpha; while Gage Varela is the son of the Santos family's servants.
Gage and Q have known each other since Always and have been fighting and getting in each other's nerves since Forever!
“Their whole lives they’d acted like the ocean and the shore – crashing against each other...”
And then puberty comes... with the realization that they are different from their packmates.
“They were tied together, like a planet and a star. No matter how much Quinton hated it.”
As it happened in the 1st book, Gage and Quinton's story is told in a Double POV and in present and past chapters.
AND, there's true heartbreaking moments here!
Gage and Quinton's relationship is way more complex than it initially seems. And they have so much history together...
As I progressed in my reading, I found myself really liking Gage and Quinton: how different from each other and strong they both are. And I started rooting for them to be able to resolve things and be happy together.
Overall, I think this book is an enjoyable read that shouldn't be passed on. I am definitely glad that I gave a chance at reading it.
Now, I'm off to read Break, the 3rd and final book of the Series.
I don’t even know what to rate this. I am really disappointed. I loved the first book in the series. And let me just start by saying that I hate it when the next couple in a series is sacrificed for the purpose of the initial couple. Loathe it. I don’t think a sequel, introducing a new couple, should be completely overwhelmed by the old one. My personal preference is to read about the new couple, it’s why I bought their book in the first place. If I wanted to read about the previous, in detail (of course I still enjoy little glimpses and cameos of the couple I fell in love with initially), then I would buy another book written about them. Or reread the first one. I do like when a series focuses entirely on one couple. I like it when a series focuses on different couples. I don’t like it when the series cannot make up it’s mind on where to focus, and is all over the place. Sigh.
The decision to so significantly split the POV’s between the main couple and the couple from the first book seriously compromises my ability to become invested in the main characters. Axel and Ben were about 1/3 of this book. So I ended up not really giving a shit about Quinton and Gage. Ok, I did a little. But between the other POV’s and all the flashbacks, there was not much time dedicated to the development of their feelings in the present. There was no immediacy. The emotions didn’t feel significant. It was just lacking. Completely. The whole thing was a bit of a let down.
The book was good on some levels. I like the writing. I did enjoy learning about Axel and Ben’s progress, and establishing their new pack. But it’s like the book was trying to be two things. It did not work. It was trying to be a book about the continuation of Ben and Axel’s story. At the same time it was trying to be a book about the story of their two new pack mates who are struggling to fight their own demons, dealing with past issues, falling in love (or admitting it finally), and…whatever. I get that their stories were interconnected. Really, I do. I just think it could have been done better. Either the two storylines needed to be split, or the book needed to be much longer in order to effectively shift the focus onto Quinton and Gage. As it stands, the amount of page time they have is not sufficient to develop their story. Not nearly enough to get me invested.
Quinton was extremely unlikeable at first. Typically, I like unlikeable characters. I’m just contrary like that. However, this only works for me as long as there is enough time dedicated to that characters growth. I need to know what makes them tick. I need self-reflection. I need something to call upon my feels. Nope. Not enough of that here. The growth was practically non-existent because by the time Quinton and Gage figure their shit out, the book is over. It all felt so rushed.
The only new character I cared about in this book was Luca. He was on about 15 pages (if that). That’s a problem. I am looking forward to his book. I just hope that it redeems the series for me, and he doesn’t have to share his book with Axel, Ben, Quinton AND Gage.
I've decided to go with 2 Stars. 1 for the writing, and 1 because I still like the paranormal aspects of this series. This book continued that. The werewolf dynamics are interesting. And the whole mating thing is handled in a way that it manages to not make me roll my eyes.
Burn Escape! Our boys finally escape and move on to Santa Cruz where they are basking in the glory of peace! But not for long...
Enter Quinton Santos and Gage Varela who success in turning our boys lives upside down once again. Great addition this saga, I love both these characters along with our original MC's.
A gay wolf shifter couple finds they're not as isolated as they had thought and are drawn into someone else's fight. Typos: to for too, everyday for every day, missing and misplaced apostrophes, boogey man should be one word, discretion for indiscretion, vice for vise, deep seeded should be deep-seated, missing word, laid for lay, steed for stead.
Ms. Perdita has scored again with the second book in the Westside Wolf Pack. I loved Axel and Ben from the first book and have been eagerly anticipating the second book since Ben's mom suggested they start their own pack. In this book, we see that foreshadowing come to fruition. Like the first book, the story is told in the present with flashbacks to the past from two different perspectives. This approach gives the reader the complete story of what happened in the past that led to the present events and how it affected, both internally and externally, the characters having the experience. This book picks up with Axel being given the opportunity to lead his own pack, as he was destined to do, by taking over a pack with only two members, Quinton and Gage, who are mates who seem to hate each but want to defend their territory from a brutal rivalry pack together. Unfortunately for them, neither is an alpha and that's where Axel comes in. Ms. Perdita handles the differing times and characters well in that they all don't sound the same and their actions and reactions are appropriate for the character. I found the title of this book, Burn, meshes well with the title of the first book, Crash. Crash & Burn. Ingenious!! Like in the first book, the title of this book also signifies the event that leads to the biggest distance between the mates. I have finally concluded that I will never be happy/satisfied with how Ms. Perdita writes her love/sex scenes, but my personal quirk about her writing style in this one aspect does not detract from the quality of what she delivers. After all, you don't have to like everything a book for it to be a well-written, well-developed story with a great plot and great characters that leaves you a good place at the end. Overall, I think this a good start to building a pack and a series that I plan to continue reading. Highly recommend.
I received a copy of Burn by Zoe Perdita from Goodreads and I was very pleasantly surprised. The author has breathed new life into a werewolf saga. The setting is sunny southern California, Santa Cruz to be exact. This is not a tale of a strong alpha overcoming all odds. Rather, the four wolves in the story all are damaged in some way, but manage to come together to defeat an evil rival pack. All the MCs are very human and likable, working to deal with the difficulties life has dealt them. While there are a couple of epiphanies, it is mostly through determination and hard work that the MCs succeed in their various endeavors. I found the story to be very readable, almost finishing it in one sitting. If you like flawed characters who triumph in part due to those flaws, this is the book for you.
This book continues with Ben and Axle living their new life happily together but something bad is always waiting just around the corner. This introduces us Gage and Quinton. Together they form a pack to save themselves and their territory from a horribly evil werewolf Blake. I love that Ben and Axle are still the highlight of this story. I really like Gage and Quinton. They are great new characters with deep ties to the land and each other. They survived a horrible past because of Blake. Book three continues with our favorite pack with omega Luca.
2.5 stars - Again, not bad. Enjoyed the parts with Axel and Ben, but felt that Gage and Quinton's relationship needed more fleshing out. I understood that their relationship was not one of hearts and roses (or like Axel and Ben's), but I still wanted to see more of the deeper connection they began to share with one another near the end of the story. Maybe we'll see a better glimpse of it in the next book (and hopefully less of the word 'Ese' - so hate that stereotypical phrasing).
In this second book we see the relationship between Axel and Ben. We also see them start to build their own pack and face down yet another powerful and evil alpha. Plus we get the relationship between Gage and Quinton as well. Another tender story where love helps men help each other overcome the trauma of the past and face up to the evil that threatens them now.
Quinton and Gage have an interesting connection they group together and know they are mates and even engage in a sexual relationship but they have yet to take the final step in claiming to commit as mates. There are secrets they are keeping from one another and each assumes the other person hates them also that there will never be love in the relationship
Not sure. Couldn't really connect to the characters and the whole hate to love transition was so fast I didn't even see it. Loved book 3, liked book 1, this one just missed the mark for me. Obviously not enough to keep me from finishing it.
