Same book?? And its only when I scrolled RIGHT down to the bottom of the Amazon page for 'Macie' that BDSM and erotica are mentioned.
I read erotica and BDSM (GOOD bdsm that is) . But I prefer to read it by choice, not come across it in the pages of a novel that has no mention of erotica, bdsm, menage in the blurb.
I wondered at one stage whether this was a 'clean' version of the original, but no - there is a mention of BDSM early on in the story (I didn't get far enough to find any erotica etc)
But my real problem with this book is the writing. It's shoddy and amateur. Where was the editor?
The author underlines words for emphasis. Yes. Underlines words. "When you came of age I was to hand them over to you and explain. However you kept moving around, and eventually I lost track of you."
Have you ANY idea how irritating and amateurish that is? I have never read a novel where words are underlined like that. Sheeesh.
And then the language. Fuck, shit, damn. Foul mouthed men. Every page, every conversation until I was skimming over the words and wondering what sort of people actually talk like this - and yes, I know a lot of men who use swear words, but I prefer not to read 'romance' that features people who can't mind their language. Stupid me ;)
"Yes I am in town. You honestly think I would be this fucking pissed if I were back in California? Well I am going to...." (author's underlining)
Hell, it wasn't anyone's fault. They were all fucking pawns in some sadistic asshole's game.
I stopped reading at 11%. I had no idea who anyone was, or what was happening and having had my fill of 'fuck, shit, damn, asshole, bastard, fucker, and fucked' I decided not to waste one more minute on this c*^p. It reads like someone's sad interpretation of a 'Blokey' book - you know the sort of thing - all macho men trying to outdo each other. The sex would be quick and rough (because, you know, girls LIKE that ) and the story full of ripped men having metaphorical pissing contests.
Mastering Macie book seven of The Men of Treasure Cove series by Rebecca Joyce was a fun book. I love the way that Rebecca Joyce can draw you into her books. She is amazing with her series and making it so you are not lost if you read one of her books out of order or haven't read any of the others in the series. The characters are unforgettable and truly exciting to read. Matthew Jenkins an attorney from Pleasure Cove living in Los Angeles returns to his home in Pleasure Cove and moves back into the family home with Andrew “Doc” Jenkins, his brother. Doc is understandable with his mixed emotions about his brother coming home after all these years. But Doc wants a particular woman in town and he is determined not to let his brother Matthew interfere with his determination at Mastering Macie. Both brothers have to face conflicts regarding their past and their own family but also the feelings and heartbreak they left with a young Macie Owens who knew as a young girl that the Jenkins brothers belonged to her. The book is full of twist and turns that keep you looking to see what brought Matthew Jenkins home, the past of the town of Treasure Cove as a total has and how it affected all the residents including Macie Owens and the Jenkins brothers.
The traditions of Treasure Cove and the neighboring town Celestial are rather unique and fun. They are not the everyday towns that you would normally come across, and make it a great escape from real life and into the town of Treasure Cove. However the one draw back that I have with the book is that as an avid reader I am rather familiar with the series. The benefits the book has for new readers of Rebecca Joyce as I have mentioned can be a drawback for others familiar with the series. Sometimes the book was not easy to read because it recaps very thoroughly incidents that have occurred in previous books of the series. I do agree with time between new releases that can still be great so you don’t have to reread previous books when the next in the series is released. But if you have read several of the books in a row of the series it can be a little tedious. Overall though I loved the book regardless of the recaps of previous stories and plots. Macie discovers more about herself and finds out more about her mother and her family and how it is tied to the events in Treasure Cove. The entire town is wrapped in a mystery regarding the land. The traditional lifestyle the town itself was founded on versus the ideas of how people should live their lives is a battle that all the traditional family members have to fight for. Macie has to fight for her place in the town and the past injuries she has from the Jenkins brothers to be able to move forward. I love how Macie does move forward, is hard working and is determined. When Macie and the Jenkins brothers are surprised with a turn in events in their life I loved how Macie showed how afraid and overwhelmed she was. This is another exciting installment of the Treasure Cove series. You not only have the continuation of the mystery of Treasure Cove itself but Macie’s development and you finally find out more about the infamous Doc Jenkins and his brother Matthew. All the while you see how the Jenkins brothers have to come together for mutual goals of getting acquainted with family and the Mastering of Macie.
