Realmente tenía muchas ganas de leer este segundo tomo, pero, para mí decepción, me he encontrado con más de lo mismo. Es decir, casi no pasa nada diferente del primero. Y, aunque sé que el tema de las violaciones marca este género, me parece un poco exagerado que la mayoría de los personajes haya sufrido una, y por parte del padre de familia. En fin, pensando muy seriamente si vale la pena seguir...

I never thought I would give a yaoi manga five stars, but here we are. To be honest, I don’t exactly have a high opinion of the genre. When I see the word yaoi, I think of brainless smut—it’s the sort of guilty pleasure you read about in private and never discuss with another soul. Ever.
To label this manga as such would be a huge disservice to it. Yes, there is sex—a lot of it—but none of it is erotic.
THE SONGBIRD DOESN'T FLY is the story of an unlikely Yakuza member, Yashiro. He is an unapologetic sexual deviant and a masochist.
So, how did he become this way? At a young age, Yashiro was sexually abused by his stepfather. He goes through life, telling himself that nothing is wrong—that everything is perfectly normal. He is unable to form normal relationships with others. He is unable to connect emotionally with anyone. Due to his past, Yashiro is left a broken man, twisted beyond repair. Rape, murder, violence —things that would appall most people does not faze him even the slightest.
Yashiro never wallows in self-pity. This is a man who makes light jokes in dire situations. His smile and candid nature brings a refreshing light into an otherwise depressing world. But despite his sense of humor, there is a lingering feeling of melancholy and sadness.
The story begins after Yashiro fired his latest bodyguard, who has fallen in love with him. For a man like Yashiro, love and intimacy are not possible. They are only a nuisance. He finds a new bodyguard—a quiet, serious man by the name of Doumeki, who is the exact opposite of his lewd and promiscuous boss.
When Doumeki was a child, his parents had adopted a younger girl, a stepsister who he has always ignored. Many years later, he left home to enter the police academy despite her begging for him to stay. One day he came back home to visit, only to find his father raping his stepsister. After beating the man half-to-death, Doumeki lost his badge and was incarcerated for four years.
Doumeki blames himself for what happened to his sister. He tells himself that things would’ve been different had he not abandoned her. As a result of his guilt, he has become impotent. This does not bother him, as it only affirms the fact that he is nothing like the father whom he despises.
In most yaoi manga’s and MM romances, the two main characters starts banging right away. No such thing happens here. In fact, the two leads never have actual sex. It is not possible for them to have sex. But despite that fact, they are able to form bond that goes beyond physical intimacy, which is rare in this genre. There is no romance. There are no sweet words, embraces, or stolen kisses. Yet, there is an unspoken understanding between these two unlikely people, who are both left broken by their experiences.
The artwork is pretty phenomenal for a manga. Kou Yoneda is able to convey so much emotion in a few panes of black-and-white illustrations. The phrase, ‘A picture is worth a thousand words,’ may be overused, but that saying really applies in this case. Her characters felt real. There are subtle nuances in their facial expressions. Even during the moments of silence, much was spoken without a single line of dialogue. The artwork here is really top-notch. (And the men actually look like men!)
There were scenes where I laughed out loud. There were parts where I wanted to cry. I'm not sure if it should be categorized as a comedy or a tragedy. The story is fucked-up. The characters are bat-shit crazy. And I'm left craving for more.
I am really hoping for an English translation of the third volume. While the second book ended beautifully, there are still unresolved problems, and I need my closure—Will Yashiro ever solve his issues with emotional intimacy? Will Doumeki ever achieve an erection?! I’m left pondering about things I never thought I would care about.

The second volume is still going strong, although the basic plot is a bit on the melodramatic side, for example,
Still, who cares!!!? The sexual tension between the two main characters, the ass-kicking dialogues alone are killing me, literally!

Menuda historia! Es oscura, compleja, y profundiza en la psicología de los personajes de una manera que hace que sientas dolor o compasión por ellos. En este tomo se conoce más la historia de Yashiro, y sólo puedo decir: qué dura ha sido su vida! Me da pena por todo lo que arrastra, porque lo han herido de tantas formas que está roto por dentro.
Yashiro es todo fachada, se pone una máscara de indiferencia, de sarcasmo y de perversión para que todo el mundo piense que a él nada le afecta, que no le importa lo que digan ni que lo traten como si fuera escoria. Pero en realidad sí le hace daño, la realidad es que se siente solo e incomprendido y no sabe lo que es el afecto... hasta que entra en su vida Dômeki, porque este hombre es la única persona que de verdad no le juzga y que en verdad lo respeta y eso en el fondo le da miedo pero también le gusta, y mucho. Dômeki despierta emociones en Yashiro, emociones que da la sensación de que le desconciertan, de que quiere evitar para no sufrir. Y piensa que él no está hecho para el amor y seguramente siente que no se lo merece. Pero podrá realmente resistirse? Podrá resistirse a alguien que está dispuesto a lo que sea por él y que le demuestra una devoción que está más allá de lo imaginable? Creo que después de este tomo ya he quedado irremediablemente atrapada y lo único ya que puedo hacer es seguir leyendo. Tengo fe en tí, Kou Yoneda!

This series is a masterpiece. Okay, it isn't finished yet so I suppose I have to be careful with my judgement, but what is available of this series so far is so very, very good.
It starts with the cover - the design of this series is really well done, and it just looks gorgeous.
The story is as involving as in the first volume - Yashiro is a fascinating character, and his relationship with Doumeki is - still very fragile, I suppose you could say. Honestly, I find it difficult to put my feelings in regards to this book into words..
What struck me over and over again is how well Yoneda-sensei uses silence (for lack of a better word). She knows when to pick "just pictures" over words, and those scenes are almost impossible to forget.
This is a gorgeous and incredibly moving and upsetting story. I love it.

Ufff que os digo sobre este manga.
Es que es potencia pura, historia de mafia con contenido sexual explícito, lgtb, no se de todo.
Es una historia para mayores de 18 eso siempre os lo digo para que tengáis en cuenta que no es para menores ya que contiene mucha violencia y mucho sexo.
Pero la trama es brutal, el dibujo magnífico y continuar la historia de yashiro y domeki me tiene súper enganchada y enamorada.
Necesito ya el tomo 3

Tras cerrar el manga, estoy sin palabras. No me quería hacer ilusiones pero es que ha superado mis expectativas con creces. Magistral trabajo de Kou Yoneda, a sus pies, señora.
Voy a leer y releer una y otra vez durante unos días porque ha sido una experiencia brutal y ensordecedora, una lectura que me ha tocado muy adentro, he sentido esas miradas, esas lágrimas y ese dolor clavarse como cuchillos en mis entrañas.
Yashiro, Dômeki, necesitaría abrazaros en este mismo momento para poder paliar un poco este mal cuerpo que me ha quedado, quiero deciros tantas cosas, quiero que entendáis tantas cosas...
Un apaluso a Tomodomo por una edición maravillosa, muy cuidada, ojalá el mercado contara con más gente como vosotros. Deseando que el 3 sea una experiencia así de fuerte, no espero menos.

This tells how Yoshiro got involved with the Yakuza. I forgot about Doumeki’s story about how he lost his virginity. Honestly, I really question why so many BL and GL stories have stories about inappropriate relationships between teachers and students. I’m not sure what we were meant to get out of it because, while it makes sense that Yoshiro wouldn’t see the harm in that story, Doumeki also doesn’t seem to realize he was a victim? So, is it only bad if a male adult is inappropriate with young people? Because that nurse should be in jail.

(Relectura) El segundo tomo es una caída a los infiernos de la yakuza para que el destino de Yashiro y Domeki quede sellado para siempre. Mientras tenemos drama, tensión sexual de las que te dejan calva y un desarrollo psicológico de los personajes que te hace empatizar tanto que te duele todo lo que les sucede. El desarrollo de la serie por parte de Yoneda sigue siendo magistral.

Continua lo strano rapporto tra Domeki e Yashiro, con l’ex poliziotto che vuole saperne di più sull’uomo che deve proteggere e lo fa conoscendo innanzitutto l’unico uomo che Yashiro abbia mai amato e che lo conosce più di tutti, ossia il dottor Kageyama. Conosce anche i diversi membri del gruppo di Yashiro e sente di iniziare a capire il suo comportamento e il suo rapporto con il sesso; e forse il suo corpo e il suo cuore stanno iniziando a cambiare e si rende conto che per il suo capo è disposto davvero a tutto. Mi sta piacendo molto l’introspezione e l’evoluzione del personaggio di Domeki che in questo volume è meno rigido che in precedenza, si apre un pochino di più e ha dei momenti di paura e di debolezza sopratutto quando Yashiro viene ferito da un uomo misterioso. Mi è piaicuto anche il fatto che, come per il precedente volume, consociamo un altro pezzo del passato di Yashiro, in particolare come è entrato nella yakuza, una parte che mi è molto piaciuta perché mostra un aspetto nascosto di quest’uomo che rimane davvero complesso e misterioso anche se ad ogni episodio impariamo qualcosa in più su di lui e sulla sua storia. I personaggi così complessi e così umani sono sicuramente il punto di forza di questa serie davvero appassionante e toccante e sono davvero curiosa di vedere come si evolverà il rapporto dei due protagonisti (e non solo) nei prossimi capitoli.

En este volumen, vemos cómo los protagonistas abarcan el tomo para profundizar más sobre su historia, cuál ha sido la razón para tomar las decisiones que toman y cómo lo han usado para ser cómo son ahora.
He de decir que me habría gustado una mayor profundidad y evolución entre la relación de los protagonistas y más escenas de los co-protagonistas como sucedió en el primer volumen. Llegó un momento en el que sentía que había escenas un poco de ”relleno” y no sentí un avance de la historia.
A pesar de ello, la historia que se nos revela de los personajes me parece algo importante y clave en la historia para explicar cómo acabaron enredados en la mafia y cuáles van a ser los personajes que más adelante tomarán un papel importante en la historia.
He de decir que me habría gustado una mayor profundidad y evolución entre la relación de los protagonistas y más escenas de los co-protagonistas como sucedió en el primer volumen. Llegó un momento en el que sentía que había escenas un poco de ”relleno” y no sentí un avance de la historia.

I think what really pulls me in is that we get a glimpse of each of the characters' humannes. How behind an unpleasant exterior lies a really sad, lonely, and hurt interior that has been shaped by leading very harsh lives.

On a whim I borrowed volumes 2-7 from the library, kinda hoping to binge my way through and here goes. I am still thoroughly confused and still very on the fence about characters and portrayals in this (can't decide how much of it to explain with the mafia context and what I feel crosses a line either way), so I might abort the binge at some point still. The burn is incredibly slow, the network of characters and layers of timelines rather complex and the stakes are high as fuck :D Give me two more volumes and I'll tell you whether I think it's gripping or if I'm completely over it.
CNs: child sexual abuse (implied and explicit), sexual and non-sexual masochism/sadism, self-mutilation, physical abuse, gun shooting, hospital, impotence due to trauma (it looks like that will be 'healed' by finding The One, which just...couldn't roll my eyes more if I tried)

Huh, I feel like I should apologise because I'll "only" give it three stars. But I can't give more, sorry f(^^)". I sometimes felt a lost during reading, I had a few problems following the goings-on. Because of that I had difficulties to really get into the story and to connect with and feel for the characters.
I'll leave it at that and, who knows, maybe when volume 3 comes out I'll re-read it and feel different about it... (wouldn't be the first time that happened).

Doumeki is slowly but surely falling / we are all actors in some kind of way or at least we try to be / this guy, wow, it still surprises me even when he has been really loud about his preferences / wow, we’re losing Doumeki / wow, we’ve lost Doumeki and I think Yashiro it’s catching feelings too

Dari segi perkembangan cerita, ini memang bagus. Hubungan kedua tokoh utama juga berkembang perlahan-lahan dalam kesunyian, tipe hubungan yang lumayan saya sukai.
Masalahnya!
Saya tetep gak tahan sama beberapa adegan brutal di buku iniiii!! Uuuurrghhh!!
Akhirnya saya jadi banyak nge-skip halaman, terutama pas adegan Yashiro-remaja digilir sama para anggota yakuza dan terakhir dihajar habis-habisan sama Pak Misumi terus dibuang ke pinggir jalan macem bungkus permen aja.
Kenapa ya? Kenapa si Gie bisa tahan baca kisah tragis Nobu dari Canis The Speaker, tapi sama cerita Yashiro ini tetep gak tahan? Hmmm....

Kalau Nobu berusaha untuk melalui semua itu demi bertahan hidup, sementara si Yashiro kan macem "yaudalah ya, gue gak peduli apa-apa lagi" gitu yang bikin si Gie kesel sendiri ngelihatnya. Kalau ke Nobu si Gie berusaha untuk menyemangatinya dan berdoa supaya dia cepat-cepat lepas dari penderitaan, kalau ke si Yashiro si Gie udah gak tahu lagi mesti ngapain. Ngedukung? Buat apa? Di luar semua itu, saya kayaknya mulai terbiasa dengan dirty jokes-nya Yashiro. Gak ada deh omongan Yashiro yang akhirnya gak nyangkut-nyangkut innuendo lolol~
Saya ngerti maksud Yashiro ngelontarin dirty jokes tiap kali diajak ngomong serius itu karena dia berusaha menghindari sesuatu yang serius dalam hidupnya. But, pleeaasseee. Sometimes it annoys me A LOT. Ayolah, bicarakan tentang hidupmu dengan serius, Yashiro. Elo bikin si Gie gregetan abis, tahu!!

Dari segi perkembangan cerita, ini memang bagus. Hubungan kedua tokoh utama juga berkembang perlahan-lahan dalam kesunyian, tipe hubungan yang lumayan saya sukai.

Saya tetep gak tahan sama beberapa adegan brutal di buku iniiii!! Uuuurrghhh!!
Akhirnya saya jadi banyak nge-skip halaman, terutama pas adegan Yashiro-remaja digilir sama para anggota yakuza dan terakhir dihajar habis-habisan sama Pak Misumi terus dibuang ke pinggir jalan macem bungkus permen aja.
Kenapa ya? Kenapa si Gie bisa tahan baca kisah tragis Nobu dari Canis The Speaker, tapi sama cerita Yashiro ini tetep gak tahan? Hmmm....
