This is a fantasy novel that I downloaded for free from Amazon a few years back and finally decided to read. I think decided to read it because I liked the cover art...yes I'm that shallow. Once I read the first book, I went back and bought the other two in the series. I would probably give this series 4.5 stars since I enjoyed it so much.

The first novel kind of takes on a being chased theme that turns into wizard schooling like a lot of fantasy novels do. It has the typical magic element with half-humans, elves, dragons and other magically crafted beings including zombies, for those interested in that sort of thing. The only thing missing from this story was a map. Most fantasy novels have a map, and when I don't get one I feel lost. Despite that, I liked the characters and the action sequences, and the descriptions in the book were quite good. There was a little bit of a love interest that I would have liked to have been expounded on, but I still enjoyed the series.

A wonderful read. I tried this out as a free book then went and bought the other two in the series. It's straight-up fantasy, with dragons, magic, prophesies, magical swords, etc. The writing is excellent. Pacing started off a little slow, but something about the characters sucked me in and I couldn't stop reading. When I reached the end, I immediately logged on to B&N and ordered the next two books in the series. Tweens/teens on up.

This is a great series. A fascinating read which draws you in. Yes it is slow at time but if you take your time it is very easy to follow. Myranda is not a complex character. A most enjoyable read if you are into fantasy. A must read.

While I found The Book of Deacon a fairly good read for the most part, I did find that more time was spent on Myranda's travels and survival than her interactions with the other people she met. At times, it was slow and boring, even annoying. Leo was a highly intriguing character and despite everything they went through together, I found their character interactions to be highly underdeveloped, as well as her interactions with other characters. The ending left me torn, debating whether or not I truly want to continue the series. While I would love to read more about Myranda's troubled relationship with Leo, I regret feeling that the next book will leave me further jilted.

So many cliches. The book showed promise because it had some interesting ideas, but it was one cliche after another. A write by numbers kind of book. World building was non-existent and character development wasn't much better. The main protagonist didn't grow or learn (other than skills) and every other character was a one-dimensional (dare i use the word again) cliche. The pet dragon was cute and the dialogue wasn't bad. I'm 1/2 tempted to read the next book in the series which is why I gave the book two stars instead of one. If I am considering reading the follow-up book then it can't have been horrible - and it wasn't horrible, just nothing new.

A grand epic, lots of magic and mayhem, mystery and action. Sometimes it rather rambled though, repeating things that were already made obvious so sometimes I found Myranda to be a bit of a twit, instead of a person of common sense. Finding herself alone and in a dangerous world, she still believes there is good to be found. Her big heart was so sweet and lets face it, I think anyone who reads fantasy wants their own baby dragon! Enjoyed this enough that I'll be looking into the rest of the series, need to find out what happens when all the Chosen get together.

It was a free download and the synopsis sounded interesting enough so I downloaded it. So glad I did too cuz I seriously could not put the book down. It's 1 in 3 books so after getting about halfway through the first, I downloaded the 2nd and 3rd. I'm already halfway through the final installment and I don't want it to end. The story may start out a little slow but I swear it picks up and fast! There are many good, detailed characters but it's not overwhelming which is a huge plus. One of my favorite series so far.

Got this book as a freebie and after I got hooked on the story line and was nearing the end I realised that there had to be another book as there was no way the story was going to be concluded. I found that it was the first in a trilogy, so I am now onto the second book. It is fantasy but the characters are interesting and the plot keeps twisting and turning. If you liked the Hobbit or Harry Potter you should like these books.

I got The Book of Deacon a few years ago when it was free on Kindle, and I absolutely could not put it down. Joseph Lallo transformed me into Myranda's world quickly and I felt for her. While she can be a bit immature and stubborn at times, I find that she's a likable and believable character.

I just kept on reading from there, and I really love the series. If you're a sci-fi fan, you must read this!

I'm not really sure what to write...this book took me a long time to read. I found several times getting really bored but the story itself is good. I did not like the fact that every time someone spoke the author would write "he said" or "she said" that did get kind of annoying. I am interested in Lain and what his story is as well as the character of Deacon. I'll probably take up the next in the series but not for a while.

good for like a thirteen year old. i just love the story and a female action heroine. she's here to save the world, sans the heaving bosom and raven tresses blowing in the howling winds.

i'm in the second book and her body and face have yet to be described. effin awse, jen.

This is a good read for teenagers or those who like to read teen paranormal with a hint of romance to it. I really enjoyed reading it myself because the story has a good pace and the book is well edited.
