The Misadventures of Callie Compton

Rate this book
It’s not everyday you find out that your sweet, sweater knitting, church going grandma is the UK’s most prolific crime boss. For Callie Compton, that day became a reality on her eighteenth birthday. Not being criminally inclined, Callie did the only thing she could. She bided her time, stole her grandma’s little black book of scumbag employees, and ran for her life.
Six years later Callie finds herself in a small café in Sweden, her Spidey sense is tingling. Someone is watching her. How did they catch her trail? And what is she going to do next?
Daisy Simpson knew from the age of sixteen that Callie’s grandma was a bad person, just like her own dad. How she regrets not telling Callie before leaving for university all those years ago. Maybe then Callie wouldn’t have disappeared without telling her. Not only was Callie her best friend, and first unrequited love, she was also Daisy’s biggest supporter. Being born deaf into a family like hers wasn’t easy.
Out of the blue, Betty (Callie’s grandma) summons Daisy. It’s been ten years since she last laid eyes on the old crone. What could she possibly want? Answer: Find Callie, bring her home or Daisy’s brother dies! No pressure then.
With little information to go on, Daisy sets out to track her childhood friend. Only after launching a social media campaign does Daisy finally get a lead. And what an interesting lead it is. It seems Callie is leaving a string of pining women behind as she moves through Europe.
Using skills she’s not at liberty to discuss, Daisy tracks Callie to Sweden.
Not only have they got to traverse Europe collecting pieces of the black book that Callie partitioned off into four sections, they also have to do it undetected. If that wasn’t hard enough, Callie and Daisy must navigate their growing feelings toward each other, deal with several less than happy women, and overcome flooded caves and one raging bull. This is no adventure. It’s quite the opposite.

. has been on the run for the last six years. She is in hiding from a vicious European mob boss, her granny.

: A really enjoyable read that I had to finish in one sitting. I just had to find out what happens in the end.

: Dual plot lines meshed seamlessly.
: Multiple mini cliffhangers keeps excitement going.

: Brilliant use of authorial intrusion - It involves breaking the fourth wall and momentarily stepping out of the story to offer commentary, explanation, or personal opinion.

One of my top five books of 2023.

You know how you’re not supposed to judge a book by its cover? The cover (by the amazing Cath Grace) is what brought this story to my attention, and the blurb settled it, I had to read it. The author was kind enough to send me a code so I could listen to the audiobook.

No one expects their grandmother to be the ruthless boss of one of the biggest crime families in the UK. When she found out at eighteen, Callie Compton at once lost her sweet Nan and her hopes for a normal life. At twenty-eight, she’s been on the lam for six years, using the skills she’s been taught as a child to blend in wherever she goes, with her grandmother’s little black book for insurance. And for the first time in six years, she senses that someone is watching her.

This book was at once darker, funnier, and spicier than I expected it to be. The story is told in dual POV, which was sometimes a little repetitive. However, Callie and Daisy have distinctive voices and very different personalities and experiences. Daisy’s deafness adds a lot to the story too, and getting her view of events was very interesting. I can’t say whether her feelings would feel accurate to a deaf reader, but they were consistent with who the character is.

The romance was sweet and I also enjoyed all the encounters with secondary characters. I wasn’t sure at first what to think of Callie travelling with Chris (a young man fleeing his homophobic father), but I liked their relationship. The romance and the running away arc take turns as the focus of the story, which swings from funny to scary to emotional in a rather efficient blend.

The narration is uneven, at times excellent—especially in Callie’s chapters—yet broken up by weirdly long pauses in some scenes. Once I moved to a 1.2 speed, it didn’t bother me too much.

All in all, The Misadventures of Callie Compton is an entertaining and very enjoyable audiobook.

I received a copy from the publisher and I am voluntarily leaving a review.

This plot starts off all about Callie running off to Europe to escape from her granny who happens to be the U.K.'s top crime boss. By the way, she also pinched granny's little black book. Staying one step ahead of gran, she is shocked when years later her childhood best friend Daisy (who is hearing impaired) has managed to track her down. Don't ask how - just go with the flow! What ensues is mayhem, high jinx, angst and drama. Oh, there is also heat after shared crushes are revealed.
Root's storyline moves quickly - Granny Betty is a cold, mean old biddy nothing like the sweet, old woman she portrays. Don't underestimate Callie and Daisy and the black book leads they are pursuing.
I really liked this read which is a departure from the author's usual style with a couple unexpected twists.

So...Callie is on the run from her 'mafia type' Nan. She meets young Chris on the run from a homophobe Dad. Then Daisy her childhood deaf bff and crush (who has been sent to track Callie down) finds them.

Its a fast paced European thriller/caper with very colourful British humour. It takes us on a tour through, Spain, France, Italy, Scandinavia and Scotland. It has lots of spicy encounters along the way.

It just left me feeling I wanted something more.... storywise. I also felt more input from other characters such as Chris and Daisy's friend Penny would have balanced it up a bit more.

Overall I enjoyed it for what it was. And tho not a favourite it was very clever, witty and researched writing. Especially with the depiction of Daisy and how her deafness impacted her and the others in the story. Anyway big Alyson Root fan so still gets 4 stars.

This is such a different book. A wonderful can’t-put-down story. An adventure of the best type, and a long desired romance.
Callie is on the run, and has been for six years. She is running from her grandmother, crime boss Betty. She has become extremely proficient at covering her tracks, and has lived in almost every European country for a time.
Daisy was Callie’s childhood best friend and crush. Because of Daisy’s profound deafness, she was ignored by her family, also part of Betty’s empire, and her intelligence was severely overlooked. During her youth she was gathering evidence against Betty - nobody ever suspects a deaf child, and lip-reading was one of her strong skills. Later, while Daisy was away at university Callie disappeared, going on the run from her grandmother. During the past six years Daisy has occasionally found information about the whereabouts of Callie, and with Daisy’s secret technology job, she has the tools to try to track Callie.
This is full of road trips, escape, surprises, and meeting some of the best people possible while travelling.

That was a fun read. I could feel the exhaustion from their travels! Breaking the fourth wall was sometimes unnerving cause it jumps out at me at the most unexpected times. The story had funny one liners too.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this honest review voluntarily. 2,5 stars.

I don’t know if I’m just starting to expect a lot from these BookSirens books so my expectations are high, but I thought this one was just on the lower side of ok. I got invested in the story, but the characters… nope. They’re so perfect at what they do, so skilled, so prepared, so all-knowing, the plans with at least five contingencies, the miraculously accurate gut feelings… they just don’t feel like real people. They’re in their early twenties and are so smart and skilled that they can outmaneuver an entire crime syndicate? Puhlease.

Here’s an example: Callie- There’s a smudge on the window of the car, it was someone looking for me, gotta run! (Like, girl, it could’ve just been someone walking down the street that touched it on accident.) Daisy- she’s all tense, she’s walking away from the car; oh no! I must’ve touched the car without realizing yesterday and left a smudge! She knows there’s someone after her! (How on earth could you have known that was what was happening from all the way across the street, huh?)

The writing was… meh. I know that sounds bad, but it’s just that the style isn’t really my cup of tea. First-person narrator that talks to the reader has to be done incredibly well to not sound tacky or weird, or like they’re not monologuing to themselves in their head, and I don’t think the writer managed that. An omnipresent, third-person narrator would’ve been so much better and would have been able to give the proper backstory to the character to explain why they are the way they are without it feeling like they’re bragging or remembering their entire life just because in the middle of an important situation. They’d still be unbelievable AF, but at least it wouldn’t be all like “Oh, look at me, I can do all these super awesome things because I’m super awesome”.

There are also quite a lot of little (some big, a few massive) inconsistencies, like repeating dialogue where the other character acts all shocked by the words as if they’re new, or moments where Daisy isn’t deaf for a minute. I don’t really want to go too much into them (no spoilers here), but let me show you one of the not-deaf-Daisy scenes so you get the picture: Daisy is FaceTiming a friend, and her computer dings, so she tells her friend she has to go. It “dings”, as in, it makes a sound. That she can’t hear. But she does somehow? And it’s not like she notices the “vibration of the sound” somehow; it just dings, it makes her jump, and she tells her friend she has to go check what it is.

These inconsistencies (which can be easily corrected with another round of revisions), the over explanations, and the characters that I couldn’t really connect with made me be kinda… meh about this book. And to be completely honest, if I hadn’t gotten it as an ARC, I’d probably would’ve just dropped it.

I’m not saying it’s a bad book, a lot of people will probably enjoy it because the characters are sassy and badass and the story and plot are somewhat compelling, it just has quite a bit of problems that I just couldn’t ignore, most of which are easily corrected with a beta reader or an editor, and it was a constant struggle to keep reading it.

What a great read!! I loved the format as well as the dual pov. I felt like I really knew the characters and would laugh, cry, scoff right along with them. And the adventure! Oh wait, I mean misadventure! I almost feel like I actually visited all these amazing places too! These characters grabbed my heart from the beginning and haven’t let go even after finishing. Callie and Daisy were perfect together and their chemistry was scorching! Thank you for the wild ride!

I knew that The Misadventures of Callie Compton would be fun as soon as the author quoted The Fresh Prince of Bell Air on the first page.

Callie’s Nan is a crime boss, and she is the heir who was expected to carry on the family legacy. She followed the rules and learned the trade, only as she matured, her goal was to disappear and separate herself from the evil woman who raised her. Knowing she would be hunted down, she took her Nan’s little black book for insurance.

Six years of relative peace have passed, but suddenly Callie feels eyes on her and knows it’s time to disappear again. The person hunting her, however, is her once best friend, Daisy.

Daisy was born deaf, so she was looked down upon in her family of criminals as someone who wouldn’t be much use. Only she has thrived, and when Callie’s Nan forces her to find her granddaughter, she jumps at the opportunity to find the woman she had crushed on as a teenager.

Once Callie and Daisy meet up, there is action, suspense, witty dialogue, and super-hot love scenes. Written in first person, and from both MCs' perspectives, the story captured my attention from the moment it started. Sure, it wasn’t perfect, but Alyson Root made the story work. Her characters were James Bond-sy, but I couldn’t help wanting them to get to the end in one piece and live happily ever after. If you love an original story, full of humour and twists and turns, be sure to check out The Adventures of Callie Compton.

I received an ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Holy damn... A fun ride indeed. I am glad I read this. I was going to start with the Vampire series, but I am glad I did this one first. Because I enjoyed the writing style and humour, so I will definitely binge the series next.

That epilogue almost had me choking because damn, after all the struggle. I am glad it wasn't true. PS: I would not mind a book on Janet and Marie -I love their aura.

Misadventures

Alyson Root tells a fun and entertaining story. I enjoyed the book and the mishaps that the MCs have while trying to accomplish their tasks.
The chemistry is strong. They have angst that is resolved almost immediately. There are enough twists and turns to keep you wondering what is happening next.
This is my first book by Root. It took a bit to get used to the writing style. However, I won't hesitate to pick up another one in the future.

Alyson Roots' 'The Misadventures of Callie Compton' is an absolute Gem that effortlessly secured its spot among my TOP 5 reads of the year. The writing style is simply captivating, taking me on an emotional rollercoaster as I laughed, cried, and marveled at the unexpected twists in the storyline. Both Callie and Daisy are exceptionally well-crafted characters, each leaving an indelible mark on the heart. The conclusion of the tale had me torn between fits of laughter and the urge to shed a tear. If there's one book to read this year, let it be this one – a thrilling journey of revelations, courage, and unexpected bonds. 'The Misadventures of Callie Compton' is a masterpiece that guarantees not to disappoint.

The intricacies of Callie and Daisy's evolving relationship add a layer of genuine emotion to the narrative. Their dynamic is an enchanting blend of vulnerability and strength, beautifully portrayed against a backdrop of challenges that test their resolve.

In the hands of Alyson Root, storytelling becomes an art form. The book defies convention, painting a vivid picture of flooded caves, fierce adversaries, and even a raging bull. 'The Misadventures of Callie Compton' is a symphony of unpredictability, capturing the essence of an anti-adventure that captivates from the very first page.

In summation, 'The Misadventures of Callie Compton' is an absolute must-read, a tour de force that seamlessly melds heartwarming moments, staggering plot twists, and an enthralling narrative. With characters that breathe and a storyline that dances between laughter and tears, this book is a triumphant achievement that will leave an everlasting impression. Alyson Root has woven a tale that is as unforgettable as it is extraordinary.

The Misadventures of Callie Compton: A Sapphic Romance

In the intricate web woven by Alyson Root, the tale of Callie Compton takes a dramatic turn as she unravels the hidden truths veiling her family's shadowy past. Raised in a world of deception, Callie remains oblivious to the sinister schemes orchestrated by her seemingly angelic grandmother, who, disguised as a devout churchgoer and skilled seamstress, reigns as the infamous matriarch of the criminal underworld in the UK.

Adapting seamlessly to her surroundings, Callie reluctantly becomes entangled in her grandmother's plots until a daring realization sparks within her – a bold plan to break free from the grip of crime, gather resources, and disappear into anonymity. Seizing the opportunity presented by her grandmother's incriminating documents, Callie vanishes without a trace, leaving behind a bewildered Daisy Simpson, her loyal confidante who had uncovered the truth long before Callie herself.

Daisy, a resilient soul born into silence and often underestimated, wrestles with the moral dilemma of unveiling the shocking truth about Callie's grandmother. As she heads to university, waiting for the right moment to reveal her discoveries to Callie, the weight of her unspoken truth burdens her. Years pass, and armed with enigmatic skills from her mysterious past, Daisy embarks on a determined quest to reunite with Callie, unveiling a tapestry of emotions and a daring plan to confront the formidable Queen B, Callie's Gran.

The story unfolds with a mix of charm, mystery, and daring adventures, offering a fresh perspective on the complexities of friendship, love, and loyalty amid a backdrop of danger and deceit. Through the intertwined stories of Callie and Daisy, the audience is immersed in a whirlwind of conflicting emotions, witty exchanges, and poignant moments that highlight the importance of empathy, love, and stability in unconventional relationships.

A captivating blend of suspense, romance, and camaraderie, Alyson Root's narrative captivates with its engaging plot, unexpected twists, and deep reflections on finding comfort in chosen companionships. Balancing lighthearted moments with gripping suspense, I express my gratitude to the author for the captivating journey depicted in the book. It was truly a delightful read that I wholeheartedly recommend. I want to extend my thanks to the author for providing me with an advanced copy of the book. It has been a genuine pleasure to delve into your writing, and I eagerly anticipate exploring more of your literary works.

It took me a bit of time to get into this book, but once I did I found it pretty enjoyable and unique.
The first person narrator style took some getting used to, to be honest. It's very different from 99% of the other Sapphic romance books I have read but once my brain adjusted to the cadence I came to appreciate that uniqueness (for me, it was kinda similar to getting into the mindset when reading historical fiction or books set in different realms).

The gist of the story is that Callie finds out at 18 that her sweet grammie is a ruthless crime lord and runs off with her little black book. Years later and still on the run, she is tracked down by Daisy, her long ago best friend, unrequited crush and someone who does some sort of super secret maybe-government work. The team up to bring grammie down and basically travel across Europe trying to piece together the little black book to use as evidence.

The romance was sweet, the locale's of the places they visit interesting and there were a few humorous moments where Callie was confronted with some ex's in awkward situations. And some plot twists and not-twists. I give credit to the author, and I am not going to give any spoilers here, but there was one point where I would have slammed down my book (if it wasn't actually my ipad) and actually did swear out loud at something I didn't see coming. And then there was another plot point I would have sworn I figured out that turned out to be totally wrong. So kudos for keeping me on my toes!

If you are looking for a light, flirty adventure with a tiny hint of spy-like intrigue I would definitely recommend this book. It was a fun read that offers a change of pace from most other romances out there.

I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

The Misadventures of Callie Compton was the first book I've read by Root and seemed to have an interesting premise. Callie is running from her crime boss of a grandmother and has been for a few years when her childhood best friend, Daisy, finds her and they go about taking down Grandma.
The adventures seemed to take a back seat here to Callie and Daisy's romance and history and I was a bit disappointed to lose some of the focus on the plot that really drew me in. The two are cute together but I felt like we missed some details throughout the story that made it all feel a bit surface level both in terms of the romance and the adventures along the way. I had a few points where I ended up a bit confused or where the character's actions just didn't seem to make sense for two people who seem to specialize in covert operations. The addition of Chris' character, though I liked him, just didn't make sense either and he seemed to be more on top of staying undercover at times than Callie did.
The writing style was a bit different as well here and it just didn't quite work for me. I couldn't tell the two MC's apart as their perspectives changed and they also talked to the reader in some points which felt a bit off. In addition Daisy is deaf and there's a big focus on sign language which I loved but there are also points where it seems her deafness is forgotten and it kind of drew me out of the story.
Overall this was an interesting plot and I liked some points and the overall direction but the writing style and some of the details, or lack of them, drew me out of the story. This is a popular book though and I think I'm in the minority so please read other reviews but it didn't quite hit the mark for me.

I had this book in my TBR section for a while. And why I did not read it before now I cannot think.
It made me really laugh. And it actually had a proper story that the 'romance' was dancing around the edges of.
Best friends at school - off to uni etc separately. Realise later that they loved each other. I have read a number of books with this back story. None of them turned out like this though.
The back story is complex and hilarious. Callie is on the run from her crime lord grandmother - yes. That was not a typo. Callie was brought up by the crime lord grandmother after the death of her mother at a young age. Erstwhile best friend Daisy tries to find her. And does. By following a trail of women she has slept with across Europe!
They then have to collect the various parts of the crime lord grandmother's little black book which Callie has left in sections across Europe. You would think it would be something you would do quietly - not attracting unwelcome attention to yourself would seem to be key.
So they hire a motorbike and side car and use helmets with dog ears on them - Wallace and Grommet style.
Some of the women that Callie has slept her way across Europe with also feature - as inevitably they have to retrace some of her steps to find the hidden pieces. I was particularly amused by the description of sex with Gabriella Bianchi - 'once she was done riding me like a fucking mechanical bull' and 'Boobs should be comforting and sensual, not a set of weapons that can inflict deadly force'.

The dead mother makes an appearance at the end.
And the grandmother stabs Callie and tries to kill her!
All in all it amused me.
And the HEA in the epilogue had a non traditional spin on the traditional HEA. And I much prefer a non traditional epilogue.

Callie and Daisy have been in love with each other since they were kids, though neither told the other. Reunited after Callie disappeared six years ago to hide from her grandmother (a crime boss who is not willing for Callie to say no to the family business), they dodge dangerous people, an angry bull, and some of Callie’s ex-lovers. As they weave their way across Europe to reunite pieces of a “black book” Callie stole from her grandma, they finally admit their love.

This story is full of intrigue, humor, and steamy sex scenes. Callie and Daisy do find help, sometimes in unexpected places, and the warmth they feel for each other and some of those helpers shines through on the page.

There is a running bit through the book where no one, not even Callie, is allowed to know what business or governmental agency Daisy works for. It is obvious she is a technical genius and is using her computer to do highly illegal things. I will say that for me, this became old after a while.

The end of the book has some twisty surprises which kept me on the edge of my seat for a bit, but the author does provide an epilogue where foggy issues are cleared up. I do love it when an author writes an epilogue that takes place at least one year after the events in the rest of the book, so was happy to read this one.

I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review, which made me very nervous as it’s my first ARC. I chose a book from Alyson because I expect her writing to be excellent, and she did not disappoint. Given the choice of full stars only, I must give it a 4. If quarter or half stars were allowed, I would rate this at a 4.5.

I fell in love with this novel by page 2, knew that it would be incredible, and spent the rest of the book worried that it would let me down. Thankfully, it never did. This isn’t a common experience for me, being drawn in so immediately and remaining riveted from start to finish, and it was an absolute delight. I would recommend this novel to anyone and everyone, regardless of what genres they normally like to read. The blend of romance, mystery, action and adventure was highly satisfying.

What really blew me away with this novel was the writing. I think that the plot, characters, and all that jazz was good, but I’m so distracted with how much I am in love with the writing itself that the other details could be underwhelming, and I wouldn’t have noticed. The writing is witty and snappy and has a clear voice that set it apart from anything else that I have read for quite some time. I was laughing from the first page to the last, even while experiencing the other emotions evoked throughout the novel. After finishing this novel, I immediately located and obtained the rest of this authors catalogue and I hope that lightning strikes twice.

With that said, the characters were indeed an absolute delight. The writing brought them alive, they were memorable, and I would happily read more novels about them (prequel or sequel, either would be great!). They had a lot of personality that was clearly communicated to the reader and satisfying character arcs for the length of the novel. I think the actual plot of the novel was on the straightforward and simple side of things, but it was so well written and satisfying that I can’t complain about it.

Excellent novel, well written, highly recommended.

The first page drew me in with strong, spunky narration, but it quickly became an off-putting ramble that somehow lasted the entire book. Seriously, you shouldn’t still be info dumping in the last chapter.

“I can easily disappear into a crowd. It comes from years of being ignored. I learned quickly I could use the skill to my advantage, and I taught myself to blend into the background. Honestly, that’s how I was able to get so much information on Queen B without anyone becoming the wiser.” Okay but what are you doing right now at this very moment?? Where even are we??

If you can look past this utterly overwhelming, incessant ramble, you’re rewarded with a generic childhood crush to lovers trope. It’s just not fun if the only thing wasting nearly a decade of their lives is being too shy to admit they already like each other (not to mention that horrible miscommunication after).

The plot is split into two parts, and both are frustratingly slow and incohesive. Callie is on the run and spends quite a few chapters being hunted down by Daisy. There’s even a whole side character arc. After all that detective work and finally meeting, they start a new quest to gathering items scattered throughout Europe. Needless to say, there’s not many pages left for all these side quests. These little stunts are just plain repetitive. There was no room left for the ending, which was “really f&!$ing underwhelming and anti-climactic!” according to Callie herself on page 358.

Reading this book is like going in for a hug and getting elbowed in the face. I am severely disappointed.

Alyson Root has created a fun, suspenseful, and entertaining tale that I could not put down! Callie and Daisy both have traumatic pasts. Callie was raised by her mob boss grandmother with no scruples. Daisy, born Deaf was written off by her deadbeat father and made to feel insignificant. Meeting as children, Callie and Daisy became one another’s support systems for years until Daisy went to university and Callie later flees from her Nan’s clutches.
The dynamics between Callie and Daisy are incredible! They’ve been apart for ten years, but when Daisy uses her incredible sleuthing skills and catches up with Callie, it is like they never missed a beat, picking up right where they left off with their friendship. The situation they find themselves in is messy yet they each bring unique talents that they combine to get the evidence they need to bring Callie’s grandma down. The ins and outs of their growing romance add another layer to this tale with honesty and vulnerability playing a major role.
The unpredictability of their misadventures is one of the best aspects of this book. Never knowing what or who was coming next kept me engaged and hanging on Alyson Root’s every word. The supporting characters Chris, Derek, and Meryl are a bonus that adds a wonderfully supportive layer to the overall story and prove how important of a role found family plays in people’s lives.

I liked it, but.....

I really enjoyed the main story. I'm not usually into first person narrative, but it really works for this one because you can see the emotion that they think but can't show. This was definitely a different sort of story.

Now for the things that really upset me in a major way.(OK they're really minor but they upset me so I'm gonna talk about them.)

1) The story starts out with Kelly being 8 years old in 1998, which means she would've been 18 in '08, and 28 and '18. This is when the bulk of the story allegedly takes place. When they were 28. Her Majesty was still very much alive at this time, yet they keep referring to her as the late queen. Really? Do some better math.

2) After everything she had to go through, after her mother essentially screwing her over, there is no way, if I were Callie, I would not insist on knowing what the business that they did was. And I would absolutely never, ever, ever, be with a woman who didn't trust me enough to tell me after what they've been through.

I know what you're thinking. It's a matter of trust. Did Callie trust Daisy? Well, trust runs both ways. Her mother should've told her. Janet should've told Daisy. And everyone should have told Callie. Period.

End of rant.

I have to admit, I wasn’t sure if I would enjoy this book as much as Alyson’s others, but I ended up being completely and utterly wrong, like super wrong.
I have never read a book written like this, and I loved it! The internal monologue and the humor throughout had me laughing the entire time. The humor was so northern and so me, it could probably annoy others, but as I am northern myself it was so funny to me, and so similar to my everyday life.
I actually loved the crime and secretive parts (although I still want to know what Daisy does) I’ve never read a book like this before, but I really enjoyed it, constantly being on the run and possibly being followed every step of the way? It was SO intense! Callie and Daisy having to be constantly aware of the people around them? I could never do that.
Callie and Daisy were the cutest together, how they found comfort and love in each other when they had nobody else, how Callie always signed for Daisy and was so protective of her, they were everything to me. Also CHRIS! I loved him, his story is so sad but he is such an amazing character, I love his bond with Callie and the whole family. Also, like Chris, I am NEVER forgiving Alyson for that first part of the Epilogue, I audibly gasped in public.

Loved this book with my entire heart. Loved the characters and loved the story line, and absolutely loved the way it was written. The writing felt very relatable, speaking to me as if this was a story being told by a living human being.

I did make one huge mistake with it tho…. Imagine this; I’m sitting there reading, thinking I can finish this before I have to head to work. Was I able to finish it before work, you ask? Absolutely not! What did I have left? The goddamn epilogue. So cue me spending the next 9 hours bargaining and coming up with all sorts of ways that the epilogue has to make it all ok. I come home, I complain to my partner about these events, and head off to finish this bloody book. I start off and I am getting increasingly frustrated with the epilogue as well, all the way until the second part of it. Goddammit. I don’t know if it was the 9 hours build up or what, but the epilogue took me for a ride for a minute there, when if I had just kept going and been potentially late for work, I would have most certainly expected this is exactly what was gonna happen.

Either way, brilliant book, loved everything about it, and would definitely recommend this one!
