Sharon 'Roni' Walker and Brandon 'Rooster' Hancock have a past. As teenagers and young adults they were lovers, sneaking around, hoping not to get caught. When Rooster took the fall for her, in a crime he didn’t commit, a string of events were set forth that changed lives and ruined friendships.
Seventeen years later they are at a turning point. Secrets have been revealed, mistakes have been forgiven, and now it’s up to them to choose the type of relationship they want.
There’s a passion that burns bright, but at the same time there is a fear that it will all be taken away in the blink of an eye like it was before.
They have a decision to make—do they let go of what could be the happiest time in their life, or do they take a shot on a second chance love?
Roni Walker fell in love with her brothers best friend when they were both young and thought their love could conquer all. But one night proved them wrong and changed the course of both of their lives. Brandon 'Rooster' Hancock left his best friend in juvie for a crime neither of them committed and turned his back on the only people that truly cared for him.
Years later he is now retired from the police force and reunited with his old friend. Secrets have been revealed and the lies from their past have been forgiven, but Roni is still holding on to one secret. A secret that she knows can destroy what little relationship she and Rooster have so she tries to avoid him. Rooster lost Roni from his life for seventeen years and he isn't willing to let her get away this time. But can they get past all the old hurts to find their way to one another again?
I read through this series pretty fast last year but stopped when I got to Roni and Roosters story. The two characters have been heavily featured in the previous books but they never made much of an impression on me so I put their book off for awhile. I did like their book and was glad I finally got the mystery of what was between them revealed, but it was lacking something for me.
The Heaven Hill series has been a favorite of mine for the action packed stories that are heavy with love and danger. I've loved how each book balances the mix of romance and action without one taking over the other. But Second Chance Love was more romance than anything else and I missed the action of an MC book that I was expecting. There was a little suspense going on with Drew, Liam and Denise's son, but it wasn't much a secret what was going on with him so it didn't satisfy my need of suspense.
Roni and Rooster we pretty much knew everything about because of everything that already happened in the series. Most of the information we were given about them was just being restated so I started to get a little bored with it. Honestly, even with the new information, I felt like I didn't even know them and couldn't connect to the characters at all.
I wanted to know more about Rooster but I did like how he handled coming back into the lives of his old friends. He really tried to put everything they all had endured behind him and once he was forgiven, he became super dedicated to all his old and new friends. His relationship with Roni I did really like, especially how he wasn't afraid to push her limits of what she wanted from him. He never gave up on her, even when she was shoving him away and I liked that about him.
Roni was just a meh character for me and I think I just saw so much of her in previous books that by now I was just done with her. I never really liked her character for reasons I don't know. Her character just never sparked that "like" inside of me so I could have done without her. I never understood her motivations for things she did, especially when she decided to tell her secret to Rooster for the first time in front of Doc Jones. Like, what??? Was that just a way to get Doc Jones written into the story again?
Bottom line, I liked the overall story and enjoyed seeing the past members of the MC. The characters were hard to connect with but they didn't make me hate the book and I will still be reading the upcoming ones.
This one didn't hold my interest as much as the first two books in the series. If you follow the series you met Rooster and Roni in the first book as well as the subsequent books. Rooster has been transformed from the skinny, red headed sheriff's deputy who was basically an ass into a hot, alpha strong guy who's sexy as hell. He and Roni had a relationship 17 years ago and this is their chance to get back together. The couple, of course, goes back to the counselor Doc Jones, to share the deepest darkest secrets of what kept them apart. We get drama when Drew, Liam's step son, gets involved with steroids in the high school. We see Meredith getting possession of a baby girl who they are adopting and which IMO will lead to Meredith finally getting pregnant in the next book. An ok read but it is one I won't read again. Seems like the books have become repetitious to me with nothing that grabs me and makes me want to soak in every word.

I have read and loved all the HH books so far…Liam & Denise, Tyler & Meredith, Bianca & Jagger, Layne & Jessica, Travis & Christine…and now we are served the story of Rooster and Roni. Rooster used to be sheriff…he would come around and on occasion be the go-to guy for the members of the Heaven Hill MC…but no more. He is now hanging with the boys in a prospecting way and his love for Roni is the focus of this book. Sharon Walker “Roni” is the half-sister to Liam and Rooster is considered Liam’s best friend. Roni is having a birthday…but one she is not happy about because it just means she is one more year older and still alone and single. She is wallowing in self-pity and when Rooster, her one-time love comes into the picture again, she is fearful of falling in love and letting him back into her life and heart. Meanwhile, some strange things are going on with Liam and Denise’s son Drew. He is exhibiting much more than the typical teenage rebellious behavior…he has become super violent, erratic, and secretive, pushing people he cares about away and getting physically out of control. Rooster is working at the local high school and is keeping an eye on the boy for Liam…and what he finds out could rock the family of the MC and make some major problems with some local trouble makers. Roni is hiding a big secret from Rooster that could either make or break a possible new future with him…if she could allow him back in…and the added problem of what he knows about Drew could rock the foundation of an already fragile relationship.
I really liked the “older” more mature relationship between Roni and Rooster…what they went through as teenagers was difficult and especially what Roni was forced to endure at the hands of her father. When they tentatively re-kindle their old feelings for each other, and both of them are keeping secrets that could cause them to lose what they have before it even gets started again, they learn to trust and have to find out what is more important…sins and lies from the past and present, or a future with the air cleared and all secrets out in the open to deal with as adults and move forward. It’s a choice and a gamble they are both willing to take and I really liked how it all played out in the end. Another action-packed but really family centered Heaven Hill story to add to the series. Sends a good message without being preachy or heavy-handed and covers some universal problems a lot of parents face with their teenagers. Loved the romance and relationship dynamics as well...fantastic =) I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
***** 5 ***** “it’s never too late for true love to find you” stars
This was probably my favorite of the series so far. I still love Tyler but since I only slightly liked Meredith from the beginning this one takes their books place as my favorite because I really liked Roni and have since the first book. Granted I never thought she would be with Rooster until the last book when their past came to light but I was glad to see all the things from their past worked out, finally.
There wasn't as much action type drama in this one, but that made for a nice change of pace. This one didn't disappoint in that this entire series is great because the couples do this crazy thing, talking to each other like adults instead of playing games and hiding what they think or feel from each other. It is rather refreshing to read since the angst usually gets over done in most MC books, this series doesn't do that and I love it. This one was even better because it was about their second chance now that all the mess was out of the way and they could be together like they should have been for years. I will say that I didn't think I could hate William more but alas I was proven wrong with what he did to Roni and Rooster, even though he didn't know until all these years later.
I have forgotten what it feels like reading a story from Laramie Briscoe. The way she can write is amazing. Love how this particular story may be about Roni and Rooster, it is also about other characters and their problems. Problems you don’t want to face but know that in order to move forward you need to face them eventually.
3.5, not sure if it's fully the authors fault but I have read some really good books in this genre lately and for some reason I had trouble believing in this book. Both the characters and the plot bothered me during the book for different reason. That being said it was still an ok read.
This is the 6th book in the Heaven Hill Series and is Roni and Rooster’s story.
Rooster is a changed man. He is no longer the Sheriff and has started to mend his relationship with Liam and has started helping out the Club by working at their garage. The best part is he also wants a second chance at love with Roni, the woman he has been in love with since they were torn apart in high school.
Roni doesn’t think she deserves Rooster’s love after the incident that occurred in high school, in which Liam and Rooster took the fall and were shipped off to prison and a work camp respectively. To this day, she still carries around the guilt of that day. She has managed to escape her Father’s control and finally be able to live her own life. Roni has never stopped loving Rooster but she’s not sure if she wants to risk her heart being broken again if the past comes back to haunt them.
This is a beautiful story of finding love, losing love and rediscovering that love when a second chance is given.
This Series is a favourite of mine and Second Chance Love firmly cemented that fact!
I was given a complimentary copy in exchange for an honest review. Reviewed by Tanya.
Laramie's characters have done it again! I'm always so caught up in the characters and their lives that I read these books in one sitting if at all possible. Rooster and Roni are now definitely up there on my list of favorite characters.
Even though technically this is their book, the other members of Heaven Hill steal the show with everything going on in their lives and Rooster and Roni make their prescence known by just being their for their family and friends and keeping everything together, boy do I know how that goes!
For Tyler and Meredith fans, I don't have to tell you that Tyler steals every scene he is in, even the small ones and this book is no different. I don't know how he does that!?
Wow what can I say I wasn’t expecting that! I think this one has turned out to be my favourite so far. I wasn’t really sure how Rooster was going to go from dedicated cop to outlaw biker but man did he pull it off, he was born to be part of Heaven Hill and fit right in. I loved how he was with Roni he has his alpha side but also gentle and patient. I felt so sad for Roni after what she endured as a teen and as for that scumbag of a father of hers I really wish I could hurt him what a complete b@$t@rd that bloke is. I absolutely loved these two as a couple and can’t wait to see more of them as the series goes on.
I received an ARC of this amazing book for an honest review. I love to read, pretty much everything but I think it has to have some aspect of romance. One of my only complaints is that often the females are very young or "cougar" aged. This time it was a character my own age which I very much loved. I love this series and the author is fantastic. Yet another slam dunk for her. I love all of the characters and have waited for Roni's story. I don't want to spoil anything but this book is amazing and well worth the wait.
Book six in the Heaven Hill series is about Roni (Liam's sister from book one) and Rooster, the former Sheriff's Deputy who resigned in the last book. Roni and Rooster had a secret relationship when they were teens until an incident which resulted in Liam going to Juvie and Rooster ending up in a reform camp for two years. When Rooster returns, he is determined to turn his life around. Fast forward 17-18 years, and Rooster and Roni finally have their second chance at love. I liked this book, but it definitely wasn't my favorite. I thought it was weird that it took so long for Rooster and Roni to have their second chance and there wasn't much action in this book as the previous. I did like seeing the progression of Rooster from book one until this one. You can really tell how much he has changed and become his true self. Although I didn't love this book, it was a great addition to this series.
I was pulled right into this story. The story has laughs, pain, secrets, and heartbreak.
If you have not read the below I would recommend reading those books(s) first Meant to Be (Heaven Hill #1) Out of Darkness (Heaven Hill #2) Losing Control (Heaven Hill #3) Worth the Battle (Heaven Hill, #4) Dirty Little Secret (Heaven Hill, #5)
This is Roni and Rooster’s story. These two have history and secrets between them. Now years later Rooster is a different man but still loves Roni. He left the force and is working for the club. He wants to build something with Roni, but she is struggling with something from the past, and they will have to deals with those secrets first. They have to navigate a new future while also working on healing from the past. He is tasked with an investigation that puts the president’s son Drew on his radar. After all the past issues they have can they come together to help not only Roni but also Drew?
read the first few in this series several years back and remembered enjoying them then. the first book of the 2nd generation of hh's has just been released so time to revisit and catch up with this series. great reading, def my style of books
Such a great read....this story touched my heart deeply...everyone deserves a second chance ...the balloon release made me run for my klennex....love the heaven hills series
Sharon (Roni) Walker and Brandon (Rooster) Hancock were lovers as teenagers and young adults. A crime and a string of events changed their lives. Seventeen years later, secrets have been revealed and mistakes forgiven.
Rereading the series throughly enjoyed them this time, just like the first reading. Finished reading the 2nd gen and just had to go back to the original series. Been a few ywar but loved them again
This too was not one of my favourites. I finished it but I just didn’t feel connected to the relationship between Roni and Rooster like the other couples in the series.
Roni and rooster! A great read. Definitely read the series in order so you understand stand all the dude characters and because their stories are worth the read
