USA Today bestselling author Angela Roquet is a delightfully macabre weirdo. She lives in Missouri with her irresistible BFF husband, their sweet, clever son, and a majestic marshmallow of a Great Pyrenees in a house stuffed with books, toys, skulls, owls, and glitter-speckled craft supplies.
Angela is a member of the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers Association, as well as the Four Horsemen of the Bookocalypse, her epic book critique group, where she’s known as Death. When not swearing at the keyboard, she enjoys playing with her family and reading books that raise eyebrows.
GRAVEYARD SHIFT, the first novel in Angela's Lana Harvey, Reapers Inc. series, and BLOOD VICE, book one in the Blood Vice series, are now available for FREE on Kindle, Nook, Kobo, iBooks, & Google.
Lost in Limbo By Angela Roquet This is a three book collection of Lana Harvey a reaper and her life, loves, adventures, and battles. I thought books one and three were very good, 4 stars, but book two was okay, 3 star. All worth reading. There are gods, angels, mythical characters of all religions, and of course reapers. I found it all fantastic and unique. Not your everyday reaper book.
I read the first book a while back and absolutely loved it. I saw this package deal on bookbub and had to get it. Now I am not so sure that I will continue with the series and am disappointed.
Plot- First book is great. At times a little complicated, but I enjoyed having to think. The author really did her research and I appreciate that. Second book -Meh. Not much really happens. It felt more like a staging area. Third book -Back to fun action, intrigue, and battle! Yaa! Spoiler ahead! Now, the reason why I am disappointed: Maalik and Bub. Maalik starts the series as a sweet, somewhat socially clueless darling. Book 2 opens and suddenly he is a controlling jerk. It seems like someone told the author he wasn't sexy enough so she tanked him and set up Bub as the loverboy. I kept waiting for an explanation for Maalik, but all we get is a pathetic excuse at the end of book 3. Speaking of Bub, he is the least developed character in the series. He is sexy. We know this because Lana says so. But that is it. He is charming and flirty. And..... that is it. Too one dimensional and slimy for me. I have read reviews of the following books and it doesn't look like this situation gets fixed, so I am tapping out.
Loved these books. The world is unique and the story line pulls you right in. The characters are funny, the situations are gripping. A great series for fantasy lovers.
Graveyard Shift I reviewed on the single book page.
Pocket Full of Posies. I liked reading about the continuing journey Lana is on and how she dealt with being more than 'mediocre' in her life. I was a bit confused about her friendship with Josie. It could be that I didn't pay enough attention in book one but they seemed a lot closer in this one. The only negative I found was the typos. There seemed to be quite a few and detracts from the awesome flow of the story. Even still it was an entertaining read. Thank you.
For the Birds. This continuation of Lana's story is entertaining as well. She seems to be stepping more into her own. I like her relationship with Bub though I wonder how long it will really last. Maybe I am too cynical but there still seems to be something he is hiding. I did miss Gabriel as he was a good friend in her life and good character. Hopefully now that he stopped by at the end he will make more of an appearance in future installments. I look forward to reading more. Thanks.
Lost in Limbo (Lana Harvey, Reapers Inc. book 1-3) (653 pages) — Angela Roquet July 23-August 1, 2018
AS per usual, I will briefly overlap each story here, with full reviews under individual titles. At the end, I will give my overall thoughts.
Book 1: Graveyard Shift — 35 chapters (first read Jan. 31, 2015) July 24-27, 2018 Lana is a Reaper, but she’s something more than that, and suddenly she’s thrusted into doing things she would rather not do. Because Lana has something much more than any ordinary Reaper. She sees human fallacies and has a kind heart for those just deceased. But she also has little patience for those.
Book 2: Pocket Full of Posies — 36 chapters July 28-31, 2018 *SEXY BITS towards end of book* Story continues almost immediately after first story ends. She working on her relationship with Maalik, but is also walking a dangerous line: working a side project that might get her executed, or worse: start a war. Her friends still trust her and support her. But will they once they find her secret out? Plus an old acquaintance becomes more than an ally. All eyes are on Lana, especially when others are searching for rebels and a missing deity.
Book 3: For the Birds — 30 chapters July 31-Aug. 1, 2018 *SEXY BITS in this book* Lana is juggling lot of balls. She has Grim and Horus breathing dow her back; friends she’s keeping secrets from and two men who still enjoy her presence. She also in a new role, one that she doesn’t like, but appears to be doing quite well in, as long as she keeps her crew happy and her heart beating. When a new challenge appears, will her motley crew be able to set aside resentments and anger towards each other to help her, or is her time finally up?
This was a good set that I am happy to have spent the time reading (even if it took me several years to get around to it.) The best of the this set is book one. Graveyard Shift was pretty tightly written and didn’t seem as apologetic as the next two. The next book spent a bit too much time lamenting over the same issues and not enough time pulling this reader with a truly good adventure. Looking back on everything, the third book sort of has the same plot as book two (she and her misfit crew ends up rescuing another person,) and also has more page-turny quality of book one, but still not as strong as book one.
Book 1and 3 had small grammatical errors (usually spelling and none in book two that I saw,) a whole lot of charm, and great characters that interacted well with each other. As much as this was an adventure, it is also a relationship series, with sexy bits in book 2 and 3.
This is a great series of books which I have really enjoyed, both "Lost in Limbo" set and the next 4 books in the series that make up the "Found in Limbo" set. They give an interesting slant on Eternity and what the afterlife might be. They are also irreverent in their humour which adds to the pleasure of reading them.
I have reviewed the individual books of "Lost in Limbo" here as well as reviewing the books individually so that whichever way the reader comes across the books my reviews can be seen.
Graveyard Shift
I originally read this book as a separate standalone, which didn't really work as the story seemed incomplete when I got to the end. You definitely need to get further books in the series to find out what happens next (which, as you can see, I did!)
Having bought this set, as the cheapest way to get the next 2 books in the series, I reread this one to refresh myself on the story. I am glad I did because I seemed to get more out of it on the second reading and, possibly, found it a more enjoyable read the second time around.
Pocket Full of Posies
This book continues the story of Lana Harvey, a reaper. It has lots of elements in it - love, political intrigue, spying, murder This mix makes for a very interesting read and an enjoyable read. Although it can possibly be read as a standalone story, if you did this you would miss out on a lot of the character backgrounds and explanations of why things are the way they are.
For The Birds
This book is possibly the most exciting story in the Reaper Inc. series that I have read so far. There is certainly a lot more action and tense moments in this book than in previous books in the series. The characters are also fleshed out more and become more interesting in themselves. It is a very good read.
This is a box set of the first three books in the Lana Harvey, Reapers Inc. series. It details the adventures of Lana Harvey, who is a Reaper living in Limbo City. She collects the souls of the dead and delivers them to the afterlife. This is definitely an interesting take on the soul reaper trope.
The world of the dead is surprisingly multi-cultural. All the heavens and hells of all faiths, both ancient and modern, are included in it. And all their gods and demons are there as well. Some of the major religions have large territories all of their own, while smaller, older religions have sometimes grouped together to make up viable territories. The whole place is washed by the Sea of Souls into which all those souls who had no religion in life, or who didn’t believe in one, are thrown. Apparently, all souls, or almost all of them, are eventually wiped of their memories and sent to be reborn.
The Reapers were created by Grim, the original Reaper who also runs Limbo city when the number of people dying every day became too much for one Reaper to handle. They are made from excess soul matter. While they are neither gods nor immortal, they seem to live pretty much forever unless they are killed.
Limbo City is populated by Angels, Demons, Reapers, and lesser deities from all sorts of faiths. It has shopping (Athena and Artemis both have boutiques there) and bars. There is also a training academy for new Reapers and those anxious for job advancement. They have access to all sorts of modern conveniences like television and DVDs. Lana is best friends with the archangel Gabriel and at various points in the story dates Maalik (an Islamic angel) and Beelzebub (one of the most famous and hottest demons).
Not kindle unlimited, looked it up and at some point must have thought it good idea to spend 99 cents plus tax on the 3 set, and normally would have at least been worth that, more so since the books seem to normally be priced something like 3 or 4 bucks a pop, but...struggled and struggled over days {and am natural speed reader} to get through the first book, even more and longer for the other 2, and omg, how can anyone have, literally and metaphysically/spiritually , a whole world based on so many things that are automatically understood by so many, and then screw it all up, so badly and in so many ways. How can a real writer turn a book {supposedly} about grim reaper {s} in to chick-lit-ick 90210 garbage?
The bad part is cost me 99 cents and tax, the good part is could have been much worse, and the best part is didn't spend anything on any of the others because these stories are not readable.
Graveyard Shift (Lana Harvey, Reapers Inc. #1) Pocket Full of Posies (Lana Harvey, Reapers Inc. #2) For the Birds (Lana Harvey, Reapers Inc. #3) Lost in Limbo (Lana Harvey, Reapers Inc. #1-3)
Kicking all obstacles to the curb - anything for a quiet life
Managed to get this box set free from Instafreebie - absolutely fabulous as the first book was brilliant. Watch as Lana overcomes more obstacles. Great banter, wonderful storylines make this a real treat to enjoy. Fabulous and highly recommended
I read a lot, and over time I've seen story lines repeat in different permutations. That's not to say they aren't all good, but rather I want to say that the world of Lana Harvey is refreshing since it hasn't been done to death. (Ha! Unintentional humor is always the best)
The premise of this series is fresh and new. The main character grows with each book. I was able to read the three books back to back without getting annoyed or bored with the characters; so well developed I look forward to the next books in this series.
I was lucky enough to get the free download of the first 3 Books of the Series, and Angela Roquet has a new fan in me for sure. What a fun series with a new spin on the paranormal genre. I can't wait to see what will happen next. There was plenty of action and romance with a motley crew of characters.
I enjoyed the new take on the afterlife. This Author's series gave new meaning to death. The book was intriguing, funny, and adventurous, and then she threw in a little romance. I loved the characters. I recommend this book to anyone looking for a good read.
The characters were so totally real. Good versus bad but not in a negative way. Both working together for their world. Lana is great, typical woman who cant make up her mind. Josie the friend who questions all the time. Grim, oh my goodness, he lived up to his name. A sprinkling of Gods and demons.
Loved the parodies, don't know how someone can imagine all this. Life in the afterworld sounds really appealing. Hope I find out sometime in the far future.
Highly entertaining series. The books are filled with memorable characters, riveting action scenes and fabulous settings. Thoroughly enjoyed this series and looking forward to the next book.
I enjoyed book 1. But book 2 Lana’s romantic choices were hard to take. Grim just didn’t seem believable for his role. By the end of book 3 I didn’t really like any of the characters.
I love this series! A strong woman that can kick some butt but still falls in love and gets her heart broken... even after being around for over 300 years... hahaha The premise is fun, dealing with deities, souls and more, not your normal drama!
Oh yeah, a SUPER series. Go ahead, take a chance, sometimes you just have to throw caution to the wind and do something without knowing much about it. Who's on the cover is interesting too!
I don't know how long these sat in my tbr pile but I wish I had read them sooner. Completely in love with the rag tag bunch of Lanka's friends. The world building is fantastic and I got lost in limbo for sure! Excellent series starters.
Love Lana. I enjoyed the way eternity was laid out in this storyline. Interesting supporting characters, I would like to see Josie used more. I look forward to how this storyline evolves in future books.
Between the earth and the world to come live the beings who aid our transition. They also have lives loves and political intrigue. These stories are a fun way of looking at them.
I really like these books about Lana and the gang. It intrigues me all the ways Ms. Roquet has brought together the beliefs of world religions into one afterlife.
I read book 1 (Graveyard Shift) in July 2020 but re-read it as part of the box set. Reaper Lana is a very engaging character. I liked the fact that Limbo encompasses a range of gods, angels and demons rather than sticking to one religion.
