I loved this collection! I've been a fan of Sable Hunter's work for a while, so of course I had to get this to read her story. It was my first time reading anything from Desiree Holt, Becky McGraw, and Sandy Sullivan. I thoroughly enjoyed each of the stories in "Santa Wore Spurs". I'm looking forward to seeing what happens next in the new series by Sable and the one by Becky as well. I'm definitely a fan of all of these authors now! If you love cowboys and romance you should give "Santa Wore Spurs" a try.
Hot cowboys for those cold Christmas nights, what could be better? Add a little naughty to your list and enjoy this holiday anthology, ripe with sensuality and still delivering that sweet Christmas feeling.
This was a great anthology every author had a very good story. Lots of very sexy cowboys and really neat ladies. Hope these authors get together for another one soon.
Tied Up for Christmas by Desiree Holt. 2 stars. If I’d read the blurb on this one first, it may not have bothered me as much but I felt disappointed in how this one played out. Bree, a female Dom, attends a gathering out of town with other like minded people hoping to talk a bit, not play. She’s just broken up with her sub boyfriend and wants some downtime. What she finds is Rafe, a fellow Dom, who takes to Bree immediately. A large part of the story is Rafe lamenting over Bree’s hidden submissiveness then him pushing her to submit then their sex play with her as a sub. I guess I just won’t understand why a female Dom isn’t allowed to be a Dom, why she always has to be the sub. Yes, there is a final scene where Rafe acts like he is going to switch and submit to her, but it fades to black so you never know if he actually does or dominates from the bottom. This story needed much more on that front to make it workable for me.
Breath for Heaven by Sable Hunter 3 stars If I had stopped reading like I’d wanted to about 10 pages in, I would have missed a fairly decent story. Once upon a time Cade and Abby were an item. He went away and when he came back Abby dumped. Ten years later, yes ten years, then are reunited for her brother’s funeral and Cade is an ass. Ten years have passed but he still baits Abby trying to make her mad. He’s crass, sexually suggesting, and an all around jerk...someone who clearly didn’t grow up. He finally pushes her into a dual self pleasure session which devastates Abby for reasons going back to the break up. Seeing that he’s made her cry, Cade has a personality change becoming the sweet, kind person he should have been in the beginning. I forcibly pushed the message that it’s okay for men to be asses if you don’t put out but once you do they can be nice, and read the rest and I’m glad I did because it was really good. If only I could carve out the first chapter or so.
Hope for Christmas by Becky McGraw 2.75 stars. Unlike the previous story, this one grabbed me in the beginning, Cord and Hope are stuck doing mall Santa shtick when he’s fired from his modeling job and she loses everything in a mistake at in a high stakes wedding. Hope convinces Cord to do a calendar and they head back to his father’s ranch to do the shoot, a ranch Cord left years earlier to take the modeling job. He knows he’s not going to receive a warm welcome but things are worse than he imagined. Cord and Hope are a lot of fun but there’s a change midway through when Cord and Hope marry for convenience so Hope can claim her inheritance. Single Cord and married Cord are two different animals and married Cord lost much of my respect. I never understood his possessiveness, his dominance. I wish he and Hope had talked about their expectations but Hope is the one that is pushed to change to meet his wants but he does so little for her. Let’s just say I was very pleased with her Christmas gift to him.
A Cowboy for Christmas by Sandy Sullivan 4 stars. This was my absolute favorite of the bunch. Caitlin takes in Eli when a snow storm strands him and his horses. Eli is anti relationship and Caitlin thinks she is so they turn to each other for some snowed in fun. They are great together. They banter, they tease, and they play with toys and submissive games as initiated by Caitlin who knows what she likes. A one night stand shouldn’t be that interesting but the author did it.
Received a free copy of this anthology from the author for an honest review.
Copy received from one of the authors in exchange for an honest review.
Although I'd give this anthology an overall 3.5 star rating, the novellas varied in quality and enjoyment for me. I'll give a short review for each.
Tied Up for Christmas by Desiree Holt - 4 stars Yowza...this one was seriously hot! Fairly mild BDSM theme about a Domme who decides to take a chance and experience the other side of things...and gets much more than she bargained for. Phew...get out your fans ladies. My first by Desiree Holt, but definitely not my last.
Breath for Heaven by Sable Hunter - 2 stars I thought this was definitely the weakest novella. Steamy in some places and started off with some promise, but the ending was totally unbelievable and far too rushed.
Hope for Christmas by Becky McGraw - 4 stars This story was by turns sweet and steamy...and extremely enjoyable! The story of two slightly displaced people who manage to find their way home together. Heartwarming and sexy, and I definitely felt the connection between these two. Again, a new author for me, but I'll certainly be checking out the rest of her work!
A Cowboy for Christmas by Sandy Sullivan - 3 stars Fairly well written story of two people who meet, connect, and then lose touch for 2 years. I never really felt the connection between them (although I felt the heat!) and I didn't find their reconnection plausible.
This is a book of 4 short stories. I liked them all but one.
Story 1: Tied Up For Christmas: As the title implies, this is very erotic book. I guess I am too "vanilla", as I only read a few pages. I was not comfortable with the subject matter. 1 Star Rating
Story 2: Breath for Heaven: This was my favorite and I give it a 5 Star Rating. I just love the couple and their very endearing love story. I had no idea what kept Abby from giving herself to Cade, but when it was revealed, I understood her feelings. I can only hope there are real men out in the world, that are as loving, compassionate and sweet as Cade. I also am very interested in reading more about Abby's brothers. Is there a King Family of El Camino Real Series by Sable Hunter? I sure hope so.
Story 3: Hope for Christmas by Becky McGraw: This author is the reason why I wanted to read this book. This story starts out as your typical sweet Christmas Romance. As the story unfolds, it because much more and develops into a good story line with depth, involving Cord's family. Rating 4.5 Stars
Story 4: A Cowboy for Christmas: Rating 4. This is a romance with lots of hot sex with a Cowboy as the Hero and a nice girl. Can't go wrong with that combo.
Santa Wore Spurs is a Christmas romance anthology written by four authors. Desiree Holt- The Story started with too much detail. It almost seemed like she was blabbing. However, I liked the background and experiences behind her characters. The ending was very rushed. The story line was progressing smoothly and then- BAN, here is everything, the end. The dialog was intriguing and held me attention. Sable Hunter- lots of confusion in the beginning. I like that, for once, there's a reason why the female main character is a bitch. The fact that her issue is a physical matter makes you care about the character. Different take on an over done plot. Becky McGraw- I like that each character is introduced to us, their background and all. The storyline is believable. It was a bit heavy and suspenseful for a romance novel, but that made you want to read it even more. Becky is a good story teller. Sandy Sullivan- the story was cute and dramatic. It could be ABC's newest sitcom. It was enjoyable and easy. It also had the least punctuation and grammar errors. ;-p

This review is for HOPE FOR CHRISTMAS by Becky McGraw.
This is the prequel to Ms McGraw’s new series The Cowboy Way; and might I say that I would gladly do anything the Cowboy Way if it included Cord Dixon!!
The premise of this story is essentially; the grass is rarely greener on the other side and never enter a relationship based on convenience!
Cord Dixon left his family ranch 3 years earlier to pursue what he thought would be an exclusive career, but falls on hard times when his moral standards take precedence over his pay check.
While moonlighting as a department store Santa, he encounters Hope; a down on her luck socialite photographer, with legs a mile long and a heart of gold.
What follows is a less than romantic offer to solve their respective financial woes, the resentment of his family for what they perceive as Cord’s desertion in their time of need, and some valuable lessons about love, life and priorities.
I look forward to the next chapter of this series!
What an awesome story by Desiree I love her books and she does not disappoint in this one. 2 special people looking for the other and not knowing they are what they need.
Breath for Heaven Sable Hunter Sable does not disappoint. I love her books and this one though short was terrific. If you want an awesome Christmas story read this
Hope for Christmas Becky McGraw I have never read anything but Becky but will be checking out her books in the future. This story was so good I really enjoyed it
A Cowboy for Christmas Sandy Sullivan
Now I understand why my friends keep telling me I need to read Sandy’s books this was such a good story and I really enjoyed it
Wow, what a great collection for the holidays! Four great books by four fantastic authors. Each book was different, but each book was filled with romance, hot and sexy cowboys, and strong, independent women. This was my first time reading a book by Desiree Holt and Sandy Sullivan, but it won't be my last. I have read books by Becky McGraw and Sable Hunter, and neither one of these ladies ever disappoint me. I loved the way that Sable Hunter added a reference from her Hell Yeah Series, featuring the McCoy brothers. If you like romance, a little on the hot side, I highly recommend this book for the holiday season. As for me, I am going to be looking for spurs on every Santa I see!!
Santa Wore Spurs includes four holiday novellas: Desiree Holt's Tied Up for Christmas, Sable Hunter's Breath of Heaven, Becky McGraw's Hope for Christmas, and Sandy Sullivan's A Cowboy for Christmas. A fantastic range of western-themed Christmas stories (including a little kink) to keep you warm as you celebrate ;) I've been a fan of Ms. Holt and Ms. Sullivan's work already, and was interested to read introductions to Ms. McGraw and Ms. Hunter's writing. Their two stories also kick off series for more hot reads to come.
A very satisfying collection to enjoy at Christmas or to get you in the holiday mood, no matter the time of year.
