Chris Claremont is a writer of American comic books, best known for his 16-year (1975-1991) stint on Uncanny X-Men, during which the series became one of the comic book industry's most successful properties.

Claremont has written many stories for other publishers including the Star Trek Debt of Honor graphic novel, his creator-owned Sovereign Seven for DC Comics and Aliens vs Predator for Dark Horse Comics. He also wrote a few issues of the series WildC.A.T.s (volume 1, issues #10-13) at Image Comics, which introduced his creator-owned character, Huntsman.

Outside of comics, Claremont co-wrote the Chronicles of the Shadow War trilogy, Shadow Moon (1995), Shadow Dawn (1996), and Shadow Star (1999), with George Lucas. This trilogy continues the story of Elora Danan from the movie Willow. In the 1980s, he also wrote a science fiction trilogy about female starship pilot Nicole Shea, consisting of First Flight (1987), Grounded! (1991), and Sundowner (1994). Claremont was also a contributor to the Wild Cards anthology series.

I found this "Days of The Future Past" arc in bargain sales years ago, before the movie version. Even in those age, we already heard something about near future theme where Sentinels almost annihilate all mutants.

It was so cheap and in mint condition, so I didn't think long to buy it.

The art was as expected for 1980s Marvel's comic books. The basic idea was similar as in movie version.

In a dystopian future, Kate Pryde is sent back in time, switching consciousness with the Kitty Pryde of 1980, to prevent the assassination of Senator Robert Kelly. Will she be able to prevent her timeline from happening or will the Senator be killed, setting off a shock wave of anti-mutant hysteria?

First off, there are a ton of X-Men trades called Days of Future Past. This one is the 48 pager.

I stumbled upon it in a used bookstore that I hate and figured I was winning one back for the good guys considering it's low price. I've been wanting to read this story for a couple decades and never got around to it. Was it worth the wait? I'll let you know in a bit.

The story itself is pretty cool. The future version of Kate Pride goes back in time to rally the X-Men against the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants and save a Senator's life. Cyclops is gone after the events of the Dark Phoenix Saga and Storm is leading the X-Men for the first time. Angel is back and the rest of the lineup is pretty much the standard Byrne-Claremont lineup.

The dystopian future was my favorite part of the story. I liked seeing Franklin Richards, Rachel Summers, and a wheelchair-bound Magneto, as well as both Wolverine and Colossus with white at the temples. Do comic characters never go gray in a pattern other than the Reed Richards look? Speaking of Reed Richards, the graveyard with all the superhero headstones in it really sold how bad the future had become after Robert Kelly's death. As for the present day part of the story, it's pretty much standard superhero fare for the time. I did like that they hinted about a connection between Mystique and Nightcrawler way back then.

One observation I had was that Wolverine's healing factor wasn't so ridiculous in either branch of the story. In the present, he's brought to his knees by Pyro's attack and, in the future, he's roasted and killed by a Sentinel. Wolverine goes through more crap than that in two or three issues of his current comic without missing a beat.

Claremont and Byrne raised the bar for other comics with their X-Men run. Byrne's art was at the head of the pack in its day and people still use what Claremont did as a model.

So, Was it worth the wait? Let's just say my 14 year old self would have enjoyed it a lot more than my 34 year old self. It's still definitely worth a read and was revolutionary for its time but it's a little on the dated side.

I should have read this one before Rogue Storm (not that I regret it much) for better continuity of plot.

Anyway, this story about a future authoritarian world makes a compelling read. The whole of Earth is guarded by Sentinels, robots that were at first designed to guard and protect humans, until at some point the robots decided that the biggest threat to humanity is - surprise! - humans themselves. And the worst of humans? Mutants with superpowers. And so the robots decided to take over the governments and 'babysit' the world's citizens under their rigid laws. Mutants are captured and/or destroyed. Those who escape live in disguise on the outer fringes of human habitation.

This story starts many years after the rise of the Sentinels. The start of the comic book is a little depressing because some of my favorite X-Men have apparently died at the hands of the Sentinels, leaving only a few to hatch a plan to save the planet... the rest, you should read for yourself.

Thumbs up for the good story line and beautiful artwork. Why can't the newer comic books be as good as the older ones? *sigh*

I loved re-reading this classic Marvel story arc. Chris Claremont made the successful jump into alternate timelines and muddy continuum with this story. Although X-men timelines became a mess later, this was well done and super fun.

This is the original two issue story that inspired the movie with the same name. The events here had far reaching impact on decades of X-men titles. Anyone who claims to be a fan of the X-men or Marvel comics really should give this 47 page story a read!

Collects Uncanny X-Men (Volume 1) issues #141-142

If you're reading this, you probably already know this, but this 2-issue X-Men story is considered one of the X-Universe's all-time greats. This collection is unique in that in only collects the two issues that make up this story. In fact, the publishers of this collection went out of their way to keep the story self-contained, and even went so far as to remove the full final page of Issue #142 because it sets up future storylines that don't appear in this trade paperback.

I first read this book as a pre-teen shortly after seeing the 1990's X-Men animated series do an adaptation of this comic. The cartoon and the comic have very little in common. I actually prefer the animated adaptation to this story.

I believe that this story is well-told, but it is hard to judge if it should be considered one of the greatest Marvel stories of all time. I think you could debate this from both sides, so I'll side with those that believe it is one of the greatest because it was ahead of its time.

Days of Future Past is a classic comic story in every sense. Originally published in Uncanny X-Men #s 141-142 back in 1980, this one has it all: Dystopian future, time travel, high stakes and tragedy. Solid story by Chris Claremont and great art by John Byrne. A little dated now but holds up very well. A lot of current entertainment has this book to thank, and I am irrationally excited for the upcoming movie...

Finally got the chance to read this classic tale of time travel and war on mutantkind. Refreshing to read an epic tale that lasts for a couple of issues as opposed to today's multi-tilte crossovers. The only other X-Men team story I've read by Chris Claremont is "God Loves, Man Kills" which I actually enjoyed more than this, but both have enticed me to seek out more. If you enjoyed the movie, you should definitely read the original source material.

A decent two issue compilation of a classic X-Men story - these classic X-Men stories are very good and the art for this book is also. I'm not especially a fan of time travel stories, but this one was a little above average (probably because it isn't clear what the consequences are of what occurs). I do enjoy stories involving the sentinels and also the brotherhood of evil mutants.

It's so strange that such an important story in the X-Men mythos is only 2 issues long. Claremont really did know how to hit stories hard and fast, while laying groundwork for the next one. If it weren't for some of the cheesy narration, and some grammatical errors, I'd easily give it five stars.

Για όσους δεν το γνωρίζουν, το Days of Future Past δεν αποτελεί κάποια μίνι σειρά κόμικ ή κάποιο ξεχωριστό event graphic novel, αλλά η ιστορία έλαβε μέρος στα τεύχη #141 και #142 της σειράς The Uncanny X-Men.

I loved the X-Men cartoon as a kid so I was already familiar with the basic idea of this story, but only recently learnt that the TV version was quite different to the original.

Overall, I really enjoyed this and would go so far as to say I loved the first of the two issues. The second one was good too but, being more action-heavy, was less my thing (somewhat ironically, the action sequences tend to be my least favourite part of superhero comics). It was still good though.

I can definitely see why the storyline is a classic and it's one of the few Marvel stories I've read as an adult that I felt was really great, and I'd recommend anyone with a passing knowledge of X-Men to give it a go.

So you’re telling me that Kitty was supposed to be the protagonist of Days of Future Past? And the movie not only replaced her with Logan but almost cut her out of the movie entirely??

Other than me being mad about that I will say I think Days of Future Past, while an important and widely revered X-Men comic, is honestly just average to me. I feel like they could’ve done a lot more than with the concept.

My love for the X-Men universe had recently reignited so what better way to start than reading the comic which inspired one of my favorite films. Surprisingly I think it's nowhere near as good as the film in terms of emotional themes that stood out in the film. Should have been expected considering this storyline is only 2 issues long although I did enjoy the more grounded focus on the future storyline here. Definitely worth a read for anyone looking to get into X-Men comics.

This is a great example of how a great story doesn't have to be a long one. This tale is a mere two issues, yet it has been undoubtedly impactful, not only on the X-Men, but on the greater Marvel Universe.
The concepts introduced and touched on here are nothing less than epic. The art is energetic with some images, like the cover of the first part, that are iconic.

Pretty cool, 4 stars a solid 8/10, right off the back the movie made deviations and came with their own liberties and inventions. And, i think it worked better as a whole. The comic especially the original run of issues 141-142, left the story unresolved and on a cliffhanger. Almost everyone dies. Honorary classic.

Probably one of the best two-issue arcs ever made, hard to believe they crammed so much into two books. Travel back and forward in time with the X-Men as they fight to save the future from the present. X-Men '94 and '97 viewers will recognize some "classic" characters in their first appearance including Senator Kelly and Mystique.

Spectacular storytelling - one of the ultimate tales in comics history. Believe the hype. John Byrne's art is basically just right, and he created some iconic imagery. Read this, please, if you want to understand me as a person - I felt understood as a person when I read it...
