When eighteen-year-old Carmondy Hamilton moves across the country and starts a new school midway through her senior year, she immediately finds herself drawn to Beck Nicholson. They share a love for basketball, and he is tall, brooding and gorgeous. Soon, he is showing her new moves, both on and off the court, but he lets her know in no uncertain terms that he wants to keep it casual. However, soon their physical relationship heats up, they venture into the world of light domination, and a fragile trust grows between them.
Beck has a dark secret that he's never shared with anyone, and when Carmondy takes matters into her own hands and discovers the truth, Beck feels betrayed. Can she convince someone who's never let anyone in that it's ok to ask for help? And when he realizes that he's pushed her out of his life completely, can this dominant bad boy learn that when you love someone, sometimes you have to submit?
Full Court Press reminded me a lot of Bully and also of Tijan's books.....just not nearly as good.
I found this book completely unrealistic--from Car's lack of parental supervision to the fact that high schoolers would be in to BDSM.
Yeah Beck was standoffish...an ass...rude....you could even call him a bully probably.
But my real problem was with Car, not Beck. She was so annoying! She questioned everything...and I mean EVERYTHING.
"What do you mean you need me to write your homework? What do you mean was it okay that we just had sex? Why are you pulling me in to the supply closet? Why do you live in the guest house and not the main house? Don't you have a room in there?
Car was just too weak of a character for me. She just layed down and took it all. I like my heroine's to be a bit stronger.
I have no idea where the story goes or if either character improves...but with a TBR list a mile long I decided to throw in the towel.
I read this whole book hoping it would get better but the complete opposite happened.
Here's just a few of the many reasons why this just didn't work for me…
1. Bdsm teenagers? 2. All that snow? 3. Her house is 2 hours away from school for the majority of the school year due to weather? 4. All parents in this story are strange and absent. 5. Annoying teen girl main character. 6. My hospitalized sister loves you? Really it was completely predictable. 7. The dom becomes the submitter ending. 8. Douche guy pushes girl away because he’s scared.
There were two thing I did like about the story: the basketball and Anderson, the sweet and funny bff.
I think if the author made the characters older and away at college it would account for the lack of parental supervision and make the Bdsm aspect more tolerable to the masses. Perhaps changing setting to Alaska wouldn't hurt either.
I really wish that the setting for this book would have taken place in college instead of high school??? That would eliminate a great deal of the issues I had with it.. If, if this would have been college, aging the characters 3 or 4 years then I would of gladly raised my rating to 3.5. That is all. I'm on the next book!

Full Court Press is an amazing story. Carmondy, Beck, and Anderson are great vivid characters. They make a great combination on and off the court. Just imagine hot, BDSM, basketball players. It might say New young adult, but it is definitely New Adult with a really really hot twist. This does not read young at all. It reads really really hot. I read this years ago when it was online and I still think about it. I recommend it to everyone!!!
I'm struggling with how to rate this. I liked the book but I had a few major issues with it. Anybody who glances at my shelves can see I read from g-rated to xxx...so I wouldn't consider myself a prude but there were a few things that hit my "skeeve" button. A female character in a contemporary romance (from ya to adult) who has sex with a known manwhore a week after meeting him and doesn't insist on a condom because she's on the pill is NOT ok, especially in a story set in a ya/NA world. I also hated the fact that this was set in high school. It just straight up creeped me out. Yes they were 18, but I think I would have felt more comfortable if they were a few years older and in college before breaking out the restraints. Apparently I find baby doms/dommes unsettling. :) I also had a hard time reading BDSM scenes without the dirty talk and more descriptive wording. It was all "he grasped himself" "she touched herself" "he entered her"....it was odd. I figure if you're old enough to break out the handcuffs you're old enough to say the word "cock" *lol* That being said I really liked the characters so I'll probably check out the authors other works and see if I can find something where the characters are a bit older so maybe when I'm done I don't feel like a creeper.
I found this book kinda hard to read but at the same time slightly addictive. We had Carmondy who has just moved school and a basket ball player, so the story revolves around her finding her place within the team and the friends she makes. The plot and story was pretty ok, slight BDSM which i found a little strange for this age group of young people. Then again who knows? Carmondy falls for basket ball player Beck who's aloof hot and a proper asshole!! Although as the story unfolds you can understand why he is as he is and his issues, to be honest i much prefered his best friend Anderson and thought Carmondy with her confidence etc was much more suited to him, there wasn't enough Anderson for me and i think he would have been easier to connect to, he almost stole the show! The set up for these teenagers was pretty dismal, there wasn't really any parents around so i felt there was a lot of loose ends. Even with all the holes in the plot i did enjoy this book, its about friendship and learning to know people from the inside. It won't blow you away but its a fairly decent read.
2 stars I was sucked in by a cover again. This book simply did not entertain. It caused me to question what on earth any author would think that teens at this age would honestly be involved in. The only realistic portion of this book? The basketball. Only thing I could relate to.
Beck was unlikeable and downright cruel in his treatment of Car. She allowed him to treat her this way. BDSM with teens? I mean come on. Any parental supervision anywhere? I just didn't see it.
And to be honest, the way that Beck and Carmondy finally made "peace" was so far fetched that I was rolling my eyes.
I read to be entertained and escape. but I need some basis in reality there! Sorry, just can't in good conscience recommend this one~
4.5 surprising stars. I didn't give it five stars cause I had to fix it in my head. Their in college, and she's a pysch major. Boom with these changes it's a five star read for me. I took the time to make these changes because this book sucked me in. I really think if this author or whatever changed a few "can't wrap your mind around items" this book could really get around. I want recommend to friends because I do think it needs some updating but if your interested in this book and can handle separating some parts, this is really good story.
Please check out Lisa J Ashmore's review at the link below. I think she summed it up perfectly.

That was actually pretty good. I for sure will be reading more of this authors books. What can i say about this book other than it was very interesting. A teenage BDSM athletes, how they started it, how they felt about it, but most importantly how much it took for them to trust each other not only with their bodies but with their hearts as well. It was my first time reading about BDSM relationship while it was at the very beginning. When you are young you want to try everything, and try to choose what you like and leave what you don't like, and finding someone who have the same taste as you do without the judging was amazing for these characters. Of course it wasn't a hardcore BDSM relationship, rather it was the soft limits and the "softer edge" so to speak in this type of relationship. This book wasn't only about that. It is mostly about trust, kindness, friendship , and love. eighteen-year-old Carmondy Hamilton moves into a new town she meets great people but one person "Beck Nicholson" wasn't that great. he simply was an ass. He is a jerk. rude, crude, use them and leave 'em kind of guy. But Carmondy was intrigued and curious about him. What started to be strictly physical arrangement ended to be a permanent solid thing. there was lots of obstacles and drama but at the end they got over it and i really think the author ended it brilliantly. I have some issues that for sure, for example; the absence of parents and adults in this book was one thing. There are some events and things that i wanted to know more about, but over all it was a cool read, i'm looking forward reading more from this author, hopefully there will be a second book.
I think I need to make a new bookshelf titled "Hmmmmm...." Because that's where this one leaves me.
If the characters in this story had been in college I may have added another star, but instead I'm debating taking it down to 2. I thought that some of the drama in this story appealed to my Tijan guilty-pleasure-love. Teenage angst and drama is appealing to me. I'm part of the 90210 generation, blame Aaron Spelling. And Beck's baddassery-mystery-man-appeal was 100% good for me. I thought his back story which gets revealed later on was terrific.
I liked Camondy too and the secondary characters were terrific. Unlike typical teen angst, there's no real BAD guys here. The problems keeping Car and Beck apart all Beck's for the most part.
So on to the problem... This is a highly sexual, light, but present BDSM story featuring high schoolers. I'm no prude. Do not get me wrong here... I enjoy a steamy read and since Tijan as near the top of my read list, it should be obvious that I don't object to sex in a story featuring high schoolers. However, there were a couple of times I felt kind of uncomfortable with the level of sexual maturity. It just seemed weird. I know they're 18, but if they'd been in college it would have lessened the creep factor for me.
That said, I'll take a look at the author's other stories and possibly read some more of her. I thought the emotional angst was well worth the discomfort. :)
I think this is only my 2nd '2-star' rating ever. I really hate to give them but this book just had too many things that didn't work. I really didn't even want to finish it, and the only reason I did was because I hate not finishing a book. First off- the story was so unbelievable... These kids were teenagers in high school, but where were their parents? I mean what parent rents an apartment for a senior in HS so that they don't have to drive home every night and then never checks on them again- even after a trip to the ER!?! Second- let me address the sex.. Kink and S&M MIGHT occur with teenagers but being that I have a 17-year old, I don't want to read about it. Plus some of the scenes were a little to "fifty shades of grey-ish" for my liking. Third- this guy was an asshole throughout the whole book! He treated everyone around him (well aside from his best friend) like shit and then she was just whinny and put up with it. He pushed her away every time and she just kept coming back for more.
I apologize, because I don't really even have any suggestions on things that could be improved because. :( I did like Anderson the best friend- he was funny and a good person!
This story is quite hard for me to review. I was waiting to start another book when this one came up in my FB feed and I thought it looked like something I’d enjoy reading while I waited. So with no expectations or background I read it cover to cover and I have to say this was an enjoyable addictive read. However, it didn’t wow me and I felt it left a lot of questions unanswered but I liked it nonetheless! I laughed, I got emotional and I have to say I cringed a few times too. Oh and I fell in love with a bloke called Anderson, sadly he wasn’t the main character but he sure was deliciously lush!
Full Court Press felt different, it was full of angst and messed up characters and the writing was quite unusual. I think it’s definitely a marmite book. You’ll love it or… not so much. I think going into it with no expectations and the fact that it was so different if not slightly odd is why I actually ended up enjoying it. The BDSM element was unusual as the characters are so young, however you have to start somewhere right? And I felt that what there was of this lifestyle was so tame and ‘innocent’ that you couldn’t call it that by definition anyway.
Okay, so we have Carmondy, a sweet confident girl who goes through a bit of a sexual self-discovery as well as a change in school and sport circumstances. I thought Car was funny, endearing and kick arse. However her family setting was so ridiculously weird and unexplained I just didn’t get it. I decided to try and ignore her family circumstances as they were unexplained and very slap dash’ly written. It was a loose end begging to be tied up!
Now Beck, what a complete arse! It took ages for me to like him and his arrogant man-whore ways. However, as more and more is learnt of his family situation and the extreme lack of love and compassion shown to him, I kind of understood and sympathized. The guy does have a heart, it’s just trapped beneath layers of hurt and disappointment accumulated across his childhood.
Aaaah then there was Anderson. I fell in complete love and boooo there wasn’t enough of him. He was such a FAB guy and I wanted more of him!! He shone like a diamond in the rough.
So yeah I enjoyed this story, surprisingly, because I had so many issues with plot holes and seriously…where the heck were all the parents??? These are teenagers! Anyway, if you can ignore questionable family circumstances, a lot of snow, and overlook a somewhat odd writing style then I’d say, add this one to your TBR list. Full Court Press is a ‘page turner’ story of friendship and learning to love. About damaged young adults who enjoy kink and who needs learn how to trust and let people underneath the false and hardened exterior. It’s about acceptance and patience. Enjoy.
I have to admit, this was a very odd book. On one hand I really enjoyed the story, on the other hand, the subject matter, exploring bondage and domination, for a couple of 18-year olds seemed weird. The subject was handled very well, with sex scenes intense, yet a body part is never mentioned (well done that, I wouldn't have thought it could be done, especially for the length of the bedroom scenes). The two issues I had problem with was a) the maturity of the discussion between two high school seniors regarding sex and their bondage issues. I don't think 18 too young to experiment with it, but their analyzing and thoughts seemed beyond their years. b) I hated the casual sex aspect combined with Beck's disdain for Car. The author explains the why, but I never connected with Beck, who I found to be weak and confused. My dislike for a character was not enough to lower my rating of the book though-- worth a read.
I liked this, but I didn't love it. This story is about a girl who moves across the country with her family and starts at a new school her senior year. She is a basketball player and soon find she is attracted to the captain of the boy basketball team. The have a strictly sexual relationship, but over time feelings start to get involved and some just can't handle that. I had a really hard time connecting with Beck, the main guy in the story. I kinda understood why he was so detached, and emotionless but sometimes he was just straight up mean. If I had been Carmondy, I would not have hung around. I really like Beck's best friend Anderson though. I almost wish Carmondy would have went for him over Beck. I'm not sure if this was a stand alone or if there will be a second book. The ending was resolved but I had lots of questions that weren't really answered and I'd be interested to see what happens next for Carmondy and Beck.
Okay ... Full Court Press ... What can I say about this ... ummm ... yeah I was a little bit like WTF ... these kids are in High School and they are already dabbling in BDSM?! They are 18 but still ... I kept thinking holy shit!!! The BDSM was very mild ... more of an introduction to what they are feeling and acting out on it ... hey you gotta start somewhere right!?! Beck ... he is something else and because he was 18 I will say ... Hot as Hell! Yum!!! Carmondy (such a different name.. I love it!!) She is awesome ... yet annoying too. I found myself getting irritated with her for what she was doing ... but then I realized you know what ... girls are really like that!!! All in all ... I liked the book ... I liked how Beck manned up ... I was a bit disappointed with the ending ... it's like here they are ... just getting to really be together and then boom it's over. With that being said ... I couldn't put it down ... I was hooked cause I needed to know what happened!
This book was actually nice to read. It had me laughing so much a few times and I really like Car. Like all the books, I knew Beck was going to do something to mess up his relationship with Car, and he did. However, the way to make things right was great. The only thing that got me a little confused, was that it wasn't written in first or third person. It looked like Car was talking and then it was a narrator and then all the way back. It got a little confusing while reading. Really enjoyed this books and I look forward to keep reading about this author. BTW, all the basketball references are great.
Really don't know where to put this book. I wish there was more so I could judge it a little more. I wanted to love it and I understand that these kids are 18 but I don't know if I would've been that experimental at the age or if we had that much drama. I think I would've loved it more if it were set in college setting. My option. Really though fifty meets high school. Yes I rated it high because it kept me reading and I did just finish it in a day I just don't know about the high school stuff. Ahh so on to the next one to see if everything turned out. Love the authors writing though.
1.5, and I have no idea why and how I actually finished this. Completely unrealistic book.. You have 17 and 18 year old's that are running around without any parental supervision, hero and heroine that are so unlikable it's not even funny.. Their dabbling in D/S was ridiculous and abusive.. Oh wow, this book drained me of all my energy and positiveness.
This one isn't an easy book to review. I didn't really like it, the story was ok and it brought out emotion. But overall I cant say it was a good book. However I think the writer has potential if she didn't stop writing I would probably follow her to see how she started to evolve. Which brings me to one of my issues, Ashley Rose is not the writer of this story or two others she has published. She bought the copyrights. I know this is pretty common but I have never agreed with it. I buy many books by authors I love without even reading what it is about. To me it is false advertising to sell works as your own that are not. Even adding a small published by instead of trying to manipulate the work to look like hers would have sufficed.
Many reviews talk about the lack of parenting, bdsm aspects etc. None of this really bothered me for a few reasons. Kids are crazy and I know many that did worse than some BDSM play in my highschool and they weren't even 18 yet. That was 10 years ago I'm sure it has just gotten worse. Two there are neglectful parents out there I have also seen this. What did erk me. I grew up in the prosser area so I know the climate, its a plateau it barely ever snows or rains, its a step up from a desert! Living 2 hours from high school?? really??
manwhore, sex with no condom after a week. It happens but don't perpetuate stupidity. Sleeping at some random guys house the first day you meet him? Refer to stupid comment above.
Prosser basketball team sucks (had to say it, highschool rivalry came out)
This is a pretty cut and dry jerk sex obsessed male falls for sweet girl messes up then makes it right story. Unfortunately the male never moved from his douchebag niche. He came sort of close but not quite. The chick was a doormat ugh annoys me just thinking about it. What did I like, the chicks friendship with Anderson, it was very well done and made reading the book worth the time.
So all in all. It didn't totally suck. Anderson, you saved the day.
This is one of those "what the heck did I just read.." kind of books. Hard to categorize - was it YA, NA, what? I had to suspend what I think I know about high school seniors and their sex lives and just go with it. Once I did that, I have to say that I really liked this odd book with teenagers dabbling in BDSM. There were a couple of questionable parts about protection that I wondered about. I REALLY liked Beck and Carmondy and I think those two characters saved the book for me. I had some difficulty connecting with Car initially but by about 20% in I found I could relate to her and her struggles being the new girl in school trying to join the girls basketball squad. Beck was puzzling to me but his basketball moves sold me on his character. Loved him. I also really liked the backdrop of basketball to move along the plot. Very unique and appealed to me since I love basketball. Some of the writing was stilted but I so liked the story that I wanted to see where it would go. My other fave character was Anderson. Oh I wish the author would write a book with him as the MC. Andy was a dream! I sort of agree with a few other reviewers about the almost absent parenting but some of my teenage daughter's friends seem to raise themselves so apparently it is more common than I thought to go through life without much in the way of parental supervision. All in all, I liked this quirky little book and have already bought the author's next book that features some of the characters from Full Court Press.
My thoughts exactly Ian. To say I was surprised on how this story unfolded was a complete understatement. Dear Lord, I still can't quite grasp how the author get the idea of High School Teens getting into BDSM story.
Carmondy and Beck aren't also that not that likeable. Carmondy is weak and I just didn't connect with her. Plus I don't get why she did like Beck. He treated her horribly and she likes it? Gaaaaah! They're both hot and cold with each other making me feel bad for the both of them.
There are a lot of things left out in the story which is quite visible even if you're not the type of reader that is so keen. Aside from the age and the setting, the missing parents is also big deal - they are high school students and isn't legal yet, where are the parents? There is Beck's sickness plus how Carmondy affected his little sister with just one look. Sigh.
Those things I mentioned are commonly used in the new-adult/romance plot lines of stories; I have read my fair share of those kinds of stories so I guess, a little bit more of tweaking here and there plus a whole lot of development there and there, would make this a much tolerable kind of read.
Ok. I enjoyed this but there were parts that I didn't necessarily get. I think what mostly a squicks me out is that - while the main characters were legal adults - they're still in high school. That being said, it's not ridiculous that high schoolers would be into light bondage.
I say this because when I was in high school, there were a group of girls a year below me who called themselves TDA (teen dyke America ... I kid you not) who, for guys at parties, would get it on with each other. There were also many rumours of orgys and ménage a trois. In short, high schoolers are just as kinky as adults if not more. I heard about these exploits every Monday morning.
The real heart to this book is the emotional relationship between Carmondy and Beck. You see them grow and expand their emotional range and see how they do it together.
This book is sure as hell not going to be for everyone, but it's worth the read if you can be open minded. And if you're more than ok with sexy times galore. And basketball references.
As standard, I read the book and then "researched" it. I read other reviews to see what people were saying. I did enjoy this book. I didn't think it was completely plausible for a high school setting. There were practically no adults around ever and then when they were, they tried to be parents, but hey when you are out of town 90% of the time you can't show up dictating orders. Anyway, I stumbled upon this one review and learned this author is not the original author. In fact, she bought the book from the original author and then tweaked it. Which to me that spoke volumes. I haven't read the original publishing of this and I kind of wish I could. Again, I did enjoy this book. It's not completely plausible, would be better set for college. I do feel it ended too quickly.
The beginning had potential, then I don't know what happened. I felt like I was watching a train wreck and couldn't stop. I keep reading thinking it would get better and it didn't. I wanted to strangle both the H and h. Both Carmody and Beck had a Dr Jeckel and Mr Hyde personality. I found myself numerous times wanting to shake Carmody and yell, woman grow some balls and kick him in his! I'm pretty open minded about alot of things and know that authors can be creative with timelines and situations to make the story work. But I felt this book was all over the place. I think I'm more mad at myself for wasting my time.
Great story, sexy as hell and good for your soul like a sweet cup of tea :-)
Beck and Car are absolutly wonderfull together, they make me laugh and cry at the same time. I was sad that the get together was kind of short. I'd love to read more about the happily ever after.
I'm looking forward to reading more from this amazing author.
Maybe a little bit about Anderson and Kendall?
Don't get me wrong, full court press was all about Beck and Car, but i think that Ashley lost the story between their sidekicks andy and ken a little bit.
Maybe there is hope that they will get their own book ... please ....
DNF at 73%, yes I made it that far I should just keep going but I couldn't. When I am having to force my mind to believe the characters are older and in a different era in their lives to believe what is going on, the steam scenes are just not worth it. If these characters had been in college, I could have total bought this book and the story, but they were in high school, and the reality they were living just wasn't real.
Plus the fact that Carmondy is just stupid, wouldn't stand up for herself. just a bad female character.
the only good thing about this book and worthy of my 2 stars are the steamy scenes.. they are written very well and really steamy.
