Gah! I feel bad that FLIGHT didn't work as well for me because I so loved the first CotS novellas!
I loved the premise of FLIGHT, once again we have a kid of a Sidhe who's not aware of his otherworldly lineage plus the conflict was this huge assassination kind of thing that's truly exciting on paper.
What I felt lacking was TENSION. First, Nathan just found out that his Dad is some sort of a god and on the same breath got attacked and was transported to his dad's otherworldly digs. See Nathan is a scholar so that means that he's logical, therefore I expected him to freak out a little bit and demand for answers and to be brought back to our world. Instead he assimilated far too easily to his new surroundings with almost no contest. I was expecting him to push a little bit because of the nature of his character.
As for the romance, I expect insta-love because this is a novella and that's a given. However the lack of romantic tension between Nathan and Tessa bothered me too. Tessa is a Sidhe and she gave off this impression that humans are inferior or a nuisance so for her and Nathan to just hook up didn't add up to me. Again, I was expecting some mild resistance because of that plus who doesn't like tension in their romance?!
Anyway, I feel like FLIGHT is one of those stories that could've benefited from a a few more words/pages so this epic premise about the Blood Wars and all that dould've been fleshed out more.
