Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson are called in on the murder of a wealthy English country squire. The deductive powers of Sherlock Holmes are on full display as he flushes the killer from a group of suspects with perfect alibis.
This is a novella length story typical of the Holmes tales.
The Sherlock Holmes Uncovered Tales are a series of original stories based upon the immortal characters, Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson, created by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.

The next adventure, The Iron Dog, is now available.
Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson become involved in a case that begins with blackmail and then takes a horrifying turn. Inspector Lestrade of Scotland Yard calls in Holmes for assistance in this baffling mystery. The case of The Iron Dog requires all of the deduction skills that Holmes can conjure as he weaves through deceit and murder. Dr. Watson is there to catalogue all the action in this new thriller. This is a novella length story typical of the Holmes tales.

The third Sherlock Holmes Uncovered Tale, The Mad Judge, is now available.
Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson are in the countryside on a rare holiday, but matters at a nearby estate draw the great detective and his faithful chronicler from their rest. Holmes and Watson weave their way through a complicated, bewildering crime scene to flush out the perpetrator. But of what crime? This is a novel length story typical of the Holmes tales.

The fourth book in the series is The Spider Web. Sherlock Holmes relates a story from his earliest days before Dr. Watson had become his friend and chronicler. In this tale Holmes is drawn to Hardwick Hall in the south of England, which has an eerie The Spider Web. The young detective matches wits with a wily and dangerous criminal. Holmes first demonstrates the skills that would do him in good stead in the future. This is a novel length story typical of the Holmes tales.

This short pastiche offers a perfectly serviceable mystery and a very familiar setting. The descriptions (of the characters, of 221B Baker Street, of Holmes's method) are all taken straight from the pages of Arthur Conan Doyle. I couldn't help but think there was little "value added," however; the work is so brief that the original characters get little development, and we are treated to no deeper insights or glimpses into the Holmes-Watson dynamic.

It's solid enough, but I was left wanting much more. To my mind, the middling-sort of pastiches are mimicry, but the best make contributions to the Holmesian conversation. This never rose above the former.

This is the first book by Ehrman I have read. He stays true to Doyle's style and the characters he created. The story was original, and I very much appreciated that. I look forward to the next book in this series.

Oops! I thought that Steven Ehrman's "The Eccentric Painter" was a novella length - and I was surprised to discover it was a short story! Certainly, there is nothing wrong with a short story; I have just wanted a standard length story when I picked it. "The Eccentric Painter" is the first entry of 12 in Ehrman's series: "A Sherlock Holmes Uncovered Tales."

The story line is good, but it is a little predictable as well. "The Eccentric Painter" starts out nicely and much in the style of Doyle, but when Holmes uncovers the real culprit at the end, the ending was too abrupt and predictable. I recognize it is a short story, but the work is so brief that the characters get little development. However, the characters of Holmes, Watson and even the young heroine were good. The rest were underdeveloped. If you enjoy Holmes, you may want to give this story a try yourself since some reviewers really loved it. I, on the other hand, can not rate it more than a "3 Star". To be fair, I will try another selection by Steven Ehrman to see how it may be.

Not as good as some of the other books by Mr. Herman but held my interest and was surprised at the identity of the killer. Good to see it took place early in Holmes career so did not have to temp make Watson a bachelor. Would highly recommend even to minor Sherlock fan, non fan may not get as much out of it.

Read like Sir Arthur Canon may have penned it and likes Inspector Savage and hope to see more of him

Just not the right style

A fair, but short, mystery however the style of writing was too far removed from ACD for it to warrant anymore than three stars.

A small dose of Sherlock Holmes

Well written short story about a mysterious death a young lady hired Holmes and Watson to look into. I look forward to exploring the whole series.

It was much like a typical Sherlocke Holmes story, with a mystery set in England, and including Watson, but not Moriarty. I enjoyed it and almost believed it could be a "lost story" of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.

Really an enjoyable Sherlock Holmes short story. The writing and descriptions of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson is very close to how Conan Doyle wrote them. Looking forward to reading more of Mr. Ehrman's Sherlock Holmes stories.

Another great book

Although not written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, still great writing and a highly enjoyable story. I only wish it was a bit longer.
