Excellent resource for all Buddhists, the writing is wonderfully clear but also lyrical and draws you in. It provides practical steps whilst giving you inspiration, in short it is as if you are listening to a Dhamma talk from a kindly monk (and I am sure Ajahn Sucitto is such a monk). I return to this book time and time again just to review the lessons. A very practical and inspirational book, a must to have on the bookshelf to be regularly consulted.
I've been reading this very slowly for about a year, and finished it today. It's served as a meditation aid and explanatory text as I've been working on mindfulness within and outside meditation. I don't really feel like I can give it a star rating. It's been really useful to me, and I know that I will return to it, likely many times. But it isn't a casual read and if I hadn't had a couple classes that discussed the concept of the paramis and how they fit into mindfulness and Buddhism, I don't think it would have been nearly as meaningful to me.
Sucitto is at times so clear and easy to understand, and at other times has me wondering what I just read. This is not Buddhism for dummies, but a book to return to again to reap the gems when able.
Ajahn Sucitto is a Theravada Thai Forest monk. This book explore the ten paramis or practices related to the Buddhist teachings that help one deal with daily life energies. Each chapter deals with a different parami, and at the end of each chapter are some relevant quotes from suttas and also meditation practices for that particular parami. Sucitto's writing is clear and relevant. Extraordinary - treatment of the ten paramis: Generosity, Morality, Renunciation, Discernment, Energy, Patience, Truthfulness, Resolve, Kindness, Equanimity.
Ajahn Sucitto's exposition of the 10 Parami (perfections) is great. He speaks to lay practitioners and to how to practice in daily life. I found this inspiring and helpful. I will definitely read it again.
Ajahn Sucitto writes very down to earth practical explanation of the Paramis or perfections of the heart. I'm sad that I've finished the book with a reading partner I’m re-reading it in a book study group - 2019 to 2020
