I believe this to be a work of art, and I still don’t know if it was made specially for the Monster mangá/anime or if it really exists. I always come back to it when I miss the story

This is probably the darkest picture book I could ever find. Dark and Mind bending. The Nameless Monster is the only true monster.

This book captures how scary humans can be. We all have a dark side within ourselves, the difference is those who can control the monster and those who are being controlled by this monster.

Delightful book and the perfect companion to the show. The front has this wonderful hologram, and the interior drawings are great. They've wonderfully reproduced the supposed publication dates of the original stories and have the handwritten pencil marks over the printed Japanese. In addition to the stories, there are also some lovely pencil character reference sketches of the children and mother.

"I have a name" said the boy. "And it's such a wonderful one." But the monster who went vest replied "Who needs a name? I'm perfectly happy without one. After all, that's what we are. Nameless monsters." The boy ate up the monster who went vest. At last, he found a name. But there was no longer anyone to call by it. Such a shame, because Johan was such a wonderful name.

My very first read in Japanese language.
it helped that it was a children book written completely in Kana :)

these stories are not benign, there's definitely something dark and not right about them and for that I found them quite fascinating.
