Make You Remember

Rate this book
He's about to make his own luck.

Ten years ago, Beau Dumont made the biggest mistake of his life by letting his high school sweetheart, Devyn Mauvais, slip through his fingers. Now the reformed bad boy will stop at nothing to get her back. Even if it means tricking her into taking a job on his family's riverboat, The Belle of the Bayou.

When Devyn's old flame offers her a stint at the boat's day care center, she sees it as a chance to prove she isn’t just the descendant of Louisiana's most infamous voodoo queen. Besides, it beats leading ghost tours around New Orleans. Yet when it comes to Beau, Devyn's all business. She won't give the sweet-talking playboy another chance to break her heart.

But there's no escaping temptation in such close quarters, and Beau won't be satisfied with a few hot nights with the girl he's always loved. As he strives to make Devyn remember the good times, will his passion and heart be enough to regain her trust?

Make You Remember
was a sweet second chance romance with a sprinkling of paranormal, and the fun setting of a riverboat!

Devyn and Beau were high school sweethearts in an all-consuming love until Beau got cold feet, ran out on Devyn and joined the military. She didn’t find out where he was until a couple of weeks after he left and even then it was only a six-word note: “Sorry, Dev, I joined the Marines.”

Ten years later Beau is back in town and wants a second chance with Devyn. He regretted leaving almost immediately and has never forgotten Devyn. He’s never had feelings for any other woman come close to what he felt and still feels for her.

I could understand Devyn’s hostility and reluctance to let Beau Dumont back into her heart. After all, the Dumont men had a horrible reputation with women dating…for decades. In fact, part of this story centers on the curse that Devyn’s great-great-grandmother cast onto Beau’s great-great-grandfather after he ditched her at the altar. Only one Dumont man has been able to break the curse and it was not easy. So Beau definitely has his work cut out for him.

On the other hand, I have to say that Beau was only a teenager when he skipped out on Devyn and who could blame someone so young for having a panic over the thought of permanence? In any case, Beau was very sorry and demonstrated that time and time again. Devyn was slow coming around, but in the meantime they had some steamy hot encounters, and got to know each other more deeply than they did as teenagers. Gradually Devyn began to trust Beau again, and it was obvious these two would eventually work things out.

This was a fun romance with a sweet ending. Can’t wait to read Ella-Claire and Alex’s romance next!

Devyn Mauvais is seriously down on her luck, besides having money issues and her car repossessed, her former high school sweetheart has managed to trick her into taking a job on his family's boat Belle of the Bayou. Now she must spend a couple of days stuck working on the same boat as Beau and the chemistry between them is not only unavoidable but hotter than ever.

I never read book one, but that's okay, it wasn't hard to pick up the pieces and follow along. The book does well as a stand-alone. The Dumont's brothers are suffering from a family curse that makes them very unlucky in love and usually has them running for the hills. Only one brother has managed to break the curse so far, thus erasing the strange mark that stains their skin over their heart, but it wasn't easy.

Despite making the biggest mistake of his life and letting Devyn slip through his fingers after High School, Beau is sure he is a reformed man and he wants nothing more but to prove it to Devyn, a task that doesn't come easy - not when she no longer trusts him.

A fun story. I enjoyed the setting, how most of the story took place on a riverboat, was kind of different. There was a lot of steamy chemistry between Beau and Devyn and you cannot help but really like them both. Beau for doing everything he can to get in good graces with Devyn and Devyn's snarky personality that made me giggle through the book.

I really did enjoy the chemistry between them and the drama that unfolded in the end. I couldn't help but root for the both of them to break the curse, even if it was obvious what was coming. Beau impressed me by how much effort he put into actually trying to accomplish that. The chemistry between them was really great. It did feel like there was a bit too much love scenes between the two that could have been done without, but it was easy to skim through and did not stop me from enjoying the writing and the wonderful plot.

I got a copy of this book from the publisher in exchange of an honest review.

Macy Beckett can do no wrong in my eyes. Make You Remember is the fifth book of hers that I've read (sixth if you count novellas), and I have adored each and every one. I am so picky when it comes to romances, but she never fails to write exactly what I'm looking for. Her stories are sexy, funny, and tender, and her couples are more than ship-worthy. As soon as I finish one, I'm always ready to pick up the next.

Case in point: after reading Make You Mine, I wished I could immediately read Beau and Devyn's story. They dated and fell in love in high school, but then he suddenly skipped town, joined the military, and left Devyn with a goodbye note and a broken heart. Ten years later, Beau has returned, and the antagonism that sparks between them in the first book was enough to ensure that theirs is a story I would be enjoying. A little background, first: for 99 years, the men of the Dumont family have remained perpetual bachelors, though whether that’s due to a century-old curse or their own fear of commitment has yet to be decided. Their history is mysteriously linked to that of the Mauvais family; many of the residents that make up the Cedar Bayou believe Devyn and her sister, Allie (heroine of the first book), descend from a powerful witch. It seems Allie and Marc have broken the curse, as they are now happily married and in love. Beau Dumont, though, has a long way to go if he is to win back his girl.

When I first met Devyn in Make You Mine, I was worried I wouldn't connect with her as much as her sister. Whereas Allie is soft, passionate, and she goes after what she wants with her whole heart, Devyn is more like a cat with her claws always out. She is stubborn, fierce, and kinda cranky. But once I actually got inside her head, it was no trouble at all for me to like her. She is currently down on her luck since she can't find a stable job, and it doesn't help that the only guy she's ever loved is now back in town. When somehow she winds up as Beau's employee, stuck aboard the same boat as him for two weeks, her walls slowly start crumbling. At first they have a sort of no-strings relationship, at least on the outside. Lately I've been wary of this set up, since it's so common in contemporary romances, but it didn't bother me here. There's so much chemistry and heat between them, as well as longing, that I never grew frustrated by Devyn's need to push Beau away. It's obvious she cares about him, but she needs more time and she needs to forgive and trust him.

Thankfully, Beau is there to always steer their relationship in the right direction. Guys, I'm totally smitten with Beau. He's ex-military, he's a bit gruff, and he's head over heels for Devyn. From the first page to the last, he is all about her. Second chance romances are some of my favorites, and this one is at the top of the list. The way Beau and Devyn reconnect had my heart racing and melting at the same time. I not only felt the shared history between them but also how deeply their emotions currently ran. There's just something about winning back your first love that gets me every time. And let me tell you, Beau does everything in his power to make that happen. When he thinks Devyn is getting too comfortable with their "arrangement", he takes a step back, forcing her to acknowledge that what they have runs deeper than lust. When Devyn is unsure and vulnerable, he knows whether to push her or to give her some space. I adore how hard he fought for her, especially at the end! If that's not true love, I don't know what is.

There are some fantasy aspects to this story, but not really? More like myths, voodoo, and family curses within a New Orleans setting. It actually plays a stronger role in the first book than it does in the second, for which I'm grateful. I think things at the end of Make You Mine got a little too weird. In this one, Beau wants to break the curse, and there are a few physical manifestations of its presence, but it's not used as much as a plot device. It felt better integrated and more on the charming side.

With two books down in this series, I'm hoping for at least two more. I am now possibly even more excited for the next couple than I was for Beau and Devyn. So, Marc has three half-brothers, one of those being Beau and another being Alex, and he also has a half-sister who is not related to his half-brothers, Ella-Claire. She and Alex have this best-friends-but-secretly-love-each-other relationship, but he's afraid to take it to the next level because of Marc. Anyway, I can't wait for their HEA and to see how it all plays out. Be sure to catch up with me before it releases. :)

I don't exactly know what made me pick up Make You Remember by Macy Beckett. I was in the mood for a light, fluffy and romantic read and thought this looked like a decent choice. This book was so great, you guys! I think I've found a new favorite contemporary romance author who I can list right next to Lisa Kleypas!

Make You Remember had one of my favorite kind of romance : second chance romance. I love the idea of the two people falling apart due to being very young and then reconnecting again in their later years. There are plenty of emotions and feels about and gets me in a swoony mood. Make You Remember's second chance romance was done really well, in my opinion and I believe it's because of how great both Beau and Devyn were as characters. Devyn was a girl after my heart with her sassy nature and her feisty attitude. She strived to be independent and hated having to rely on other people. I loved how no matter what the situation was or how much she really needed help, she still attempted to do everything she could in order to make herself stand up on her own feet. We need more women like Devyn in the world and she's definitely someone I aspire to be like in the future. Of course, I also have selfish reasons for wanting to be her : I WANT A BEAU DUMONT FOR MYSELF! Damn, this man! He was all kinds of perfect and made me swoon with how gentlemanly he was. Can you tell that I'm a little bit obsessed with him? Yeah, well, if you read this book, you will want him all for yourself as well, so I'm already warning you ladies that he belongs to me Devyn.

What makes the romance pretty amazing in Make You Remember isn't just the searing chemistry that Devyn and Beau shared. Sure, they had a lot of that and that ensures that we have plenty of steamy scenes between them that doesn't necessarily involve sex, but it's how they worked together towards their relationship. Devyn was wary at the beginning of the book because she was scared to have her heart broken from the same guy who had left her after he promised he wouldn't after high school, but she and Beau worked as a team to achieve a stable relationship. I appreciated the fact that Beau really tried to make amends for what he did to her. I also loved that there was no unnecessary drama that acted as a huge obstacle to their relationship and that dragged for half the book, that is so typical of contemporary romances. I also absolutely loved the setting of the cruise boat. It was fun being able to vicariously go on a cruise because you can't pay me to set foot on a boat for days! The secondary cast was also really interesting. I loved the bond between Devyn and her sister and I definitely want to read the first book in the series which features of Devyn's sister and Beau's older brother!

If you are in the mood for a light and romantic read that features great lead characters, humor and a swoony romance that will make you sigh in happiness, you should definitely try Make You Remember! I highly recommend it.

I read a lot of second chance stories, but my new favorite is Macy Beckett's Make You Remember. From the characters to the setting, I adored everything about this book and I just can't recommend it highly enough.

We met Devyn and Beau, and got a glimpse at their history, during the first Dumont Bachelors book, Make You Mine. But, boy oh boy, there was still a lot we didn't know. We know they're high school sweethearts and they both believe their love is due to fail thanks to Beau's family curse. (You know, the curse that her sister and Beau's half-brother managed to break in the first book in the series.) Once Devyn accepts a job working on The Belle and finds herself face-to-face with Beau in tight quarters, there's no doubt these two still share some pretty strong feelings. In a huge role reversal from most romance novels, Devyn is happy to keep things casual while Beau insists that's just not enough. He'll settle for a physical relationship for now, but only until he can convince her they belong together. What ensues is good, sexy fun with a lot of feels and heart.

I am totally head-over-heels in love with Beau. As much as I enjoyed Marc in the first Dumont Bachelors book, Beau is that much more... MORE. He was a little rough around the edges, ex-military and sexy as can be. I loved everything about this man and his devotion to Devyn. From the very first page, through all the ups and downs, Beau only had eyes for Devyn. He was seriously swoony. You just can't help but love a man that determined and sweet. Sometimes guys like that can be too intense and come off a little creepy, but in no way, at any time, did Beau seem creepy. He was just up-front with his feelings and intent on making Devyn admit her feelings. Curse or no curse. I had to warm up a bit to Devyn, but it wasn't but a couple chapters into the book before I was singing her praises as well. She was feisty and tough. Beau had a way of softening her up though. I just loved the dynamic between them. They were passionate and real. I shipped this couple hard.

Macy Beckett has, after just two books, become one of my new go-to guilty pleasure authors. I've thoroughly enjoyed both of her books, but there's no doubt that Make You Remember is the one that made me fall in love with her writing. I love the cast of characters in the Dumont Bachelors series and I'm really eager to get to the next book. I really hope it's Ella-Claire and Alex's story. I love these two and need them to get their HEA soon.

"If there is one perfect truth in the world, it's that we were made for each other."

A sweet second chance romance.

Devyn's heart was broken ten years earlier when her high school sweetheart abandoned her. With just a note left behind for her, he joined the marines and never looked back. Since then she's been grumpy and really unsettled in her life. She dropped out of college, and finds herself living paycheck to paycheck and bouncing from one horrible job to another. Things get turned upside down when Beau shows back up. He's decided to become a managing partner of the family riverboat, along with his brother Marc.

Beau offers Devyn a job in the learning center on the boat. When he left her behind, her plan was to become a teacher, but now she isn't so sure what she wants to do with her life. She's been offered a job running a cemetery tour but she doesn't want to be a sellout. Reduced to making money off of her great-great grandmother's voodoo priestess legacy. She decides to take the temp job with Beau and after a few days aboard he's really getting to her. Refusing to open her heart up to him again for fear of getting hurt is easier said than done. She thinks she's content with a few sexy romps around the boat. But Beau has made it clear he wants more and isn't going to settle for the little piece of herself she's giving him. It might be the dreaded Dumont curse that's to blame though.

I love a second chance romance and instantly liked this book more than Make You Mine. But as the story progressed it almost felt like the author used the outline from the first book to develop this story. While the characters had a different feel, there were a lot of similarities in the plot, the rushed timeline of the story and ending. I liked that Devyn ended up having the "purest kind of faith" in Beau and his love. It made for a cute ending.

I loved the first book Make You Mine. I thought it was cute and refreshing so, I was looking forward to this one to see what other shenanigans could happen with the Dumonts and the Mauvais's. A decades long curse should warrant all types of issues for these two. However, how I played out the potential of this book in my mind did not match the reality of the book.

Devyn happens to be the sister to Allie, the first Mauvais to break the curse. Even though witnessing the curse being broken it doesn't give her too much hope for the other Dumont's especially since she's holding a grudge with her first love, Beau Dumont. For Allie and Mark, they had nothing but bad luck keeping them apart. For Beau and Devyn, it wasn't really the curse holding them back but stubborn hearts.

Devyn, is in a low point in her life and Beau jumps at the chance to rescue you her as he has ten years to make up if he's ever to get a chance at re-kindling with this first love. Even though Devyn is still holding a grudge she can't deny the chemistry. Beau weakens her resolve and they find themselves knocking boots in the closet. Even though Beau likes the sex only relationship he wants more so he forces Devyn to have all or nothing with their future.

Is it really a curse of a lack of faith? For Devyn who is quick to blame the curse or the Dumonts but really this time it lies with her if she wants her HEA. Beau may have screwed up when he was a kid but ten years later he's a changed man and has a piece of my heart with how he approaches his life, family and love.

The chemistry was good. The story was cute. But I wanted more quirk and fun with this one like we got in Make You Mine. It could be that I'm in a all heroines irk me funk lately but I still wanted more from this story.

My review cross-posted from Wit and Sin: http://witandsin.blogspot.com/2014/11...

Heartbreak, a family curse, and a second chance with a first love all blend together to make an irresistible story in Make You Remember . Macy Beckett’s second Dumont Bachelors novel is fast-paced, sexy, and filled with characters you have to adore.

Devyn Mauvais’s life went off track when Beau Dumont left her all those years ago and she’s never quite gotten herself back on even footing. She’s shut the door so firmly on her past that she actually makes it harder for herself to move forward and it’s caused her to become a bit sharp with people. One of the joys of Make You Remember is watching Devyn come alive as she finds herself again. Her passion for teaching – and for Beau – make her see that she needs to take a chance and work for the life she wants rather than spin her wheels. I loved seeing the changes in Devyn over the course of the story and I cheered her on as she risks disappointment going for what she wants.

As for Beau, the eldest Dumont brother has an easy charm and talented hands. He knows he screwed up badly when he left Devyn, but that doesn’t mean he won’t grab at the second chance he has with her. I loved that Beau owned his mistakes and stood up for the man he has worked to become. He’s the perfect match for Devyn, and when the sexual tension between them boils over the pages of Make You Remember steam up like you wouldn’t believe. Their love story was solidly entertaining, but I did feel that it wasn’t quite as powerful as it could have been. Beau and Devyn’s romance is based on the fact that they fell in love when they were young and are now getting their second chance. However, we don’t really get to see much of their shared past; only the important details are mentioned in the story and we miss seeing much of how they first fell in love. By not seeing that foundation, I was left wanting a little bit even though the love story built on said foundation was enjoyable.

Make You Remember is the second full-length book in the Dumont Bachelors series, but it can be read as a standalone. Beau’s brothers and Devyn’s sister all play important supporting roles in the book, and having fallen in love with all of them in Make You Mine, I was thrilled to revisit the Dumont and Mauvais families. Like most of his brothers, Beau is still cursed never to make it down the aisle, and though the curse was less important to this story than it was to the first, it was still an obstacle I enjoyed watching Devyn and Beau overcome. I finished Make You Remember a well-satisfied reader, though I’m on tenterhooks waiting for Alex and Ella-Claire’s story. Ms. Beckett, please don’t make readers wait long for more of these sinfully sexy Dumont brothers!

Make You Remember is the second story in the Dumont Bachelors series, and I have to say it was a heartfelt story of love and second chances. Beau Dumont broke Devyn Mauvais’ heart 10 years ago when he up and left her, because he let fear rule him instead of staying. Now he’s back and wants another shot at the only woman he’s ever love. Devyn hasn’t had it easy over the last 10 years, bouncing from one job to the next, never really finding her niche. Now she has sunk to a new low when she contemplates cashing in on her heritage. Beau comes to her rescue and offers her a job on the river boat as a teacher in the education center. She’s between a rock and a hard place so she accepts the offer and thinks she can handle being near Beau for just two weeks. But can her heart handle being close to Beau Dumont?
Time may have separated them but the attraction and chemistry still sizzles between Beau and Devyn. All logic goes out the window when Beau gets near her. Sex was never their problem. When Devyn reveals a secret, Beau now knows what is holding Devyn back from totally committing to him. Beau isn’t sure what it’s going to take to reassure Devyn that he is changed and not like his father. Beau wanted more than want Devyn was offering, and he had to make her see it his way. Devyn has to figure this out for herself, and it takes a stranger before she realizes what she had and could have. The big gesture at the end is really something and had me on the edge of my seat hoping that it wasn’t going to blow up in her face. Beau is my hero! What he does at the end of the story is amazing. I’m so glad it all worked out for both of these likable characters.
Make You Remember is a perfect title for this contemporary romance of second chances. The path that Devyn and Beau go thru to make their way back to each other wasn’t easy and they had to overcome a few stumbling blocks. Trying to move past the hurt takes a bit of time and sometimes it can be out of your control. Her time spent in the education center rekindle a feeling that she had forgotten and it was fortuitous that her work on the river boat was more than just a job. Even the side story between Ella-Claire and Alex, is relevant to the main characters’ own story and shows how it all could fall apart if you don’t have faith in love. If there is one thing that I know when I read a Macy Beckett book is that you are pretty much guaranteed a sexy, fun read with a good plot and a couple that you feel that are right for the other. That is exactly what I got and I’m more in love with this series and want more. Macy Beckett has done it again and has written a pleasing and sensual story to enjoy and watch two people fall in love again.

Caffeinated Dates with Make You Remember

Spoiler free recap of series: A Mauvais woman scorned cast a curse on the Dumont men when one backed out of marriage to her. Since then no Dumont man has married, and all leave a wake of woman and children behind. In the first book Allie and Marc fight the curse and now it is Devyn and Beau’s turn.

First date: Devyn Mauvais’s life could not get any more complicated. Hmm, well maybe it can. She is broke, out of a job and attending her high school reunion. She is feeling confident in her consignment dress, that is until she walks in and sees the love of her life, breaker of her heart, Beau Dumont. Damn and he is looking like a dream. It unnerves her. She is torn between kissing him senseless and slapping him across the face. Ten years ago, he slipped away in the middle of the night and joined the service. He is back home for good but his biggest regret was leaving Devyn. Can he convince her to try again? Aaand I am in, from the snarky banter to the cracklin’ tension.

Second date: Beau has offered Devyn a temporary job aboard the boat, and as much as she wants to decline, she needs the money. It gives her a chance to take stock, make decisions and spend time with her sister. We get to catch up with the crew of the Belle of the Bayou and eat fried okra. I am ready to set sail, and enjoy watching these two tango. Beckett brings the heat and not just in the bedroom. I love second chance romances and just hope Devyn is willing. All that stands in the way is faith, and the Dumont curse. The one that Devyn’s grandma cast. No worries, because it is all voodoo mumbo jumbo right? I mean, it’s not real or is it?

Third date: Heat, turbulence and love make the world go round. Devyn is fighting her fears, Beau has declared his intentions and a storm is a brewing. Side stories add interesting, and even have me shedding a tear. Beckett knows how to weave a tale and I am fully vested. By the last chapters, I am holding my breath, despite really knowing how it will all end. By the time, I close the book I am smiling and craving some of Allie’s pastries.

They say you never forget your first love. In the case of Devyn Mauvais and Beau Dumont, this statement is very much true. Ten years ago, Beau left Devyn to join the Marines without even a goodbye. He went on to become a better man for leaving but always regretted the way he treated Devyn. For Devyn’s part, she simply became a fish out of water and lost her way. Ten years out of high school, she hasn’t accomplished anything in her life. But these two are about to get a second chance at love, if they are willing to take risks.

Make You Remember is full of passion, pain, regret, and determination. But it's also full of pure love. I’m looking forward to the next book in this series.

(I didn't realize this was Book Two in a series until I was part way into it, but it didn't matter. Beau and Devyn's story is fantastic all on it's own.)

I like reading second-chance love stories because we all make mistakes, and it's fun to see what a character does when given the opportunity to redeem themselves. Toss in some clever writing, close quarters, and plenty of steam, and you've got yourself a recipe for romance!

Beau and Devyn have to navigate their shared history, a family hex, trust issues, and good old fashioned attraction. But even the perfect storm can't keep these two apart. The ending is what great romance novels are made of and I hope there is another Dumont Bachelors installment planned because I NEED Alex's story like yesterday!

Oldest Dumont son Beau returns home a decade after walking out on his high school girl friend Devlyn Mauvais. Beau works to prove himself to Devlyn and overcome the Dumont voodoo curse.

I like this less than the first book. I absolutely hate storylines where the hero treats the heroine badly, goes on for the next period having a gay old time while the heroine struggles, then decides he’s now ready for the heroine. I also hate storylines where the heroine’s failure to forgive and trust becomes the major issue - not whatever character flaw caused the hero to be a dickhead originally.

I just loved this book! The characters are real and engaging, the whole family dynamic is entertaining and heart warming. At first I was iffy about this book because Devyn has walls or rather a fortress built around her. We see huge character growth and start to find the next books leading couple. The world Beckett has created has me wanting to take a river boat ride down the bayou with a sweet tea. I can not wait till the next book!

I picked up this book as part of my attempts to finish old series. Unfortunately this was just an okay book and I found myself more interested in the Ella-Claire and Alex storyline. Unfortunately, this may be the end to the series.

Beau and Dev fell in love fast and hard when they were in their senior year of high school and everything seemed possible. But when Beau left town and Dev behind, everything changed for the two of them.

Now, ten year later, this two soulmates find their way to each other again but the path to love it's never easy, especially when you have the Dumont curse to consider.

Watching Dev and Beau reconnect was a wonderful, sexy, fun and steamy journey. We first met them both in Make You Mine (Dumont Bachelors #1) where we learned a little about their shared past but now we get the whole story. We especially find out how things ended between them, downright heartbreaking and leaving both feeling, well, unfinished for the lack of a better word.

The thing about this story it's not whatever Dev and Beau love each other, they have since their first date, but what comes after. Back when they were high school kids, they were still too young to understand or grasp the meaning of the connection they had, the love they shared. But now that they are both adults they want to make their relationship work. Especially Beau.

Beau is completely committed to make things work with Dev. He's not that eighteen year old kid who left town without even a goodbye, he has grown up and man up. He finally understands that what he and Dev have is a once in a lifetime thing, and has all the faith in the world that they can make it to death do them apart. He's jumping with both feet into the relationship, risking soul and heart. But it's also important to understand he does because he has failed Dev once and he's trying to prove she can faith in them. That she can trust him.

This is where it gets tricky, because when the love of your life left in the middle of the night to be found nowhere around town and you receive a letter, aka post it, two days later with only a few words and no explanation, you are left scarred. And that's exactly why Dev fights so hard to no open up to Beau. She's afraid because he has already broken her heart and she never fully recovered, much to her annoyance.

It took a great deal of patience from Beau and a lot of courage for Dev to have this two finally be together. But don't be mistaken, this is not a book full of angst. No, no, no. The fact they have so much history together only means they know each other perfectly and sure like to push each other buttons. There's a lot of banter and steamy encounters between Dev and Beau that gives the story a good dose of fun and a nice balance with the heavy of their mending relationship.

Dev is a wonderful heroine. On the outside she might look scary and strong, but reality is she's all mush. She has the most tender heart and loves to take care of others, which is why she has a lot of bonding moments with Ella Claire or why she is such a great teacher.

Beau is so earnest in his love for Dev that you just want to hug him tight and never let him go. He has truly grown up and is ready to make amends with not only Dev but also his family. His relationship with Marc remains hilarious as ever, and even has a few brotherly moments with Ella Claire too.

I really had lots of fun with this story and, after the ending this book has, I can't wait to see how the story of the Dumont Bachelors continues.

Macy Beckett returns with the second book in the Dumont Bachelors series. This book has great Southern charm, a delightful riverboat setting and serious sexual tension. Everything a good romance should have. Beckett easily immerses the reader in Beau and Devyn's second chance love story. Despite a one hundred year old curse, these two were made for each other. Readers who are looking for a romance with passion, heart and a little voodoo thrown in for good measure will find this one irresistible.

What I liked:

There were several things that I really enjoyed about this book. Being set on the bayou was definitely one of them. Devyn is a descendant of a voodoo queen and she uses that tie to make a living, but it isn't exactly how she wants to spend her life. I liked the whole Louisiana vibe that Beckett gives readers with this series. It is sexy, yet mysterious. The voodoo elements are not overwhelming but they certain add a certain character to the book. Beckett does a great job with descriptions from the riverboat cruise to just about everything else. Lots of Rich detail and imagery.

Devyn was an interesting heroine. She was tough and hard as nails in some ways, but she still had a vulnerability about her that was enchanting. She is guarding her heart very closely especially where Beau is concerned. He hurt her once before badly and she really hasn't gotten over it. But he is a older, more mature man now. Getting over the trust issues between them was a big obstacle. I liked the fact that Beau sort of blackmails Devyn into working with him and that through that job she learns that she has a gift for teaching and a love for it. I enjoyed watching her walls come down in this one.

Beau could have come across as a jerk, since he broke Devyn's heart in the past, but he really doesn't. Readers will probably see him like I did. He was young and made a bad decision. Now he's older, he's made something of himself and he being a responsible adult. I loved the fact that he was the one who wanted the relationship between him and Devyn to be more than just sex. It was a role reversal of sorts, because it's usually the female lead who wants to take things further and the male lead that is hesitant. I loved Beau's commitment to Devyn and finding love with her. He was a very good hero.

The Dumont family has been cursed. None of the Dumont men have any luck with women, except Marc who in the first book in the series ends up with Devyn's sister. The curse placed on the family over a hundred years can be broken and I loved watching how Beau and Devyn were able to overcome not only their issues with each other, but the curse as well. I liked the secondary characters who played such a great part in the book. Most were Dumont family members and I'm finding I like this family more with every new book in the series.

Bottom Line:

This is a good second chance romance that plays out in true bayou style. I loved the riverboat setting and the play on voodoo that is so central to the story. Devyn and Beau had genuine chemistry and steamed up the pages nicely. Beckett uses strong characters and beautiful imagery to make this book come alive.

This is the second in the Dumont series, I enjoyed the romance as well as the ongoing mystery of the curse that forever causes havoc with the love lives of the men in the Dumont family.

Devyn Mauvais is a direct descendent of the famous voodoo queen Juliette Mauvais, and as much as she feels it is bad juju to use the history of this notorious woman, she needs to make a living and so sells sacred oils and ritual kits out of her home, telling herself it is just until something else comes along.

Beau Dumont is back from his wandering ways and is ready to put his money and energy into the Belle, the riverboat he runs with his brother Marc. When Beau and Devyn bump into each other at their high school reunion, he helps her get out of an embarrassing situation, only to trick her into working for him during a two week trip on the river. The two have history and as much as she needs the money, she is not sure spending two weeks with Beau is the smart thing to do. And while the chemistry is still strong with these two high school sweethearts, Beau will need to convince Devyn he is ready to make a commitment and that the curse can be broken.

I thoroughly enjoyed this second book in the series which can easily be read as a standalone. Devyn's sister Allie and Marc are featured in the first book and play pivotal roles in this story but the author does a great job of catching the reader up on all things that are important.

Devyn is a bit on the gruff side, she tries to hide behind a wall because of past hurts but you can see she is vulnerable on the inside. Beau sees though this right away and comes to her rescue on several occasions whether she wants him to or not, it actually gets him into trouble a time or two, but the groveling is good and he excels at making things up to her.

Speaking of Beau, he is a wonderful hero, yes he may have messed up ten years ago, but now he is older and knows what he wants, and Devyn is his future.

The two together are smoking hot, they can't keep their hands off each other while on their two week trip and the chemistry is off the charts. Of course all is not always so wonderful and she gets scared because of her trust issues and starts to back off even before the trip ends, Beau has his work cut out for him to gain back her trust.

Beau's family is front and center since most of them either own or work on the Belle so they are important to the story, which is a good thing as they are quirky and fun. There is also the 100 year old curse they must work through in order for the two to be successful with their happily ever after but the story is lighthearted and sweet and does not feature a lot of drama to distract from the romance. I am excited for more as I am intrigued by Beau's sister Ella-Claire and her relationship with Alex, I see fireworks.

Make You Remember by Macy Beckett is the 2nd book in her Dumont Bachelors series. I really enjoyed the first book in this series, and was excited to learn that Devyn would get her story next. I am happy to say this was another fantastic story by Beckett, that I could not get enough of, as it was a delightful romance and sexy as hell.

To give you a refresher, the Dumont men have been under a curse for almost a 100 years that was put on by Allie and Devyn’s grandmother. But Marc and Allie broke the hex in the first book, and they are now married. We find out in Make You Remember that the hex was only broken for the one brother.

Devyn Mauvais is our heroine, and she is Allie’s sister (our heroine in the first book). Devyn just about makes ends meet, running a shop with witchcraft gris gris. Devyn is offered a well-paying job to become a tour guide of a new company to do Ghost tours, using the Mauvais name. While Devyn has to decide if she wants to embarrass herself and her family to make this money, Beau Dumont comes to a temporary rescue. Beau is our hero, and he has just become a full partner with Marc on their riverboat. Beau offers Devyn a job on the next riverboat tour to run the education classes on the boat. At first Devyn hesitates, since she does not want to be near Beau, who was her high school sweetheart, but he left her to join the marines, and thereby broke her heart. But Beau has returned and he wants Devyn back.

What follows is a fun sweet, not to mention charming romance that sizzles through most of the book. Beau and Devyn made such a wonderful and sexy couple. Though Beau wants to break this hex with Devyn, she is afraid to get hurt again. The side story with Devyn teaching the youngsters on the boat was fun, and we get to see another side of Devyn. Beau was so swoonworthy throughout the book, that you couldn’t help fall for him. Will Devyn get past her fears and anxiety that Beau will run away again? Will they be able to break the hex?

What makes this series so good is not only the fabulous couples, but all the secondary characters that Beckett has made us fall in love with. We can look forward to seeing their stories told. The romance, and storyline was written so well by Macy Beckett. We had everything in this story, a fun and fabulous couple, steamy love scenes, LOL moments, family atmosphere, and the fun riverboat scene. If you want a fun and sweet charming romance; one that sizzles throughout, look no further then Make You Remember.

Make You Remember, Dumont Bachelors #2, by Macy Beckett
Grade: B

"Okay, but if we have a Titanic moment, you'd better not let me go like Rose did to Jack."

A hundred years earlier the men of Dumont family were cursed to never marry or settle down and that had proven true until Beau Dumont's little brother broke his curse. For Beau it was never about not wanting to settle down since he found the one in Devyn Mauvais years ago. After making a horrible mistake, running off to join the military and leaving Devyn and his heart behind. Now that he's back to help run is family's riverboat he has one mission to get Devyn back into his life but Devyn isn't going to make it easy.

Devyn Mauvais has spent her life keeping everyone at arms length after getting her heartbroken ten years ago. Unemployed and with no idea what to do with her life she is considering selling out her family's name until Beau Dumont comes back into her life. Devyn wants nothing to do with Beau but she needs the job he offers badly and agrees to work on the riverboat for two weeks. Being around Beau brings back old memories and feelings but Devyn is determined to not fall for him again since she isn't sure she could handle the heartbreak a second time.

What a great series! I love the fact that this series takes place outside of New Orleans and on a riverboat on the Mississippi River. There is a great southern feel to this book that is woven together with family curses, Gris Gris bags and voodoo history. I was so excited for Beau and Devyn's story and it sucks you in right from the start. It was heartbreaking to hear their history and hard it was for Devyn after Beau left.

The book does have a lot of fun parts courtesy of Devyn's very dry humor. Devyn dos not make it easy on anyone but some of my favorite moments included her and the kids she was teaching on the riverboat. These kids brought out something so magical in Devyn and we get to see her shine when she's teaching. We also get up see this side of her when she is with her sister Allie but there isn't a on of sister time in this book.

Beau and Devyn's relationship kicks into full gear when the are on the boat and they have some very, very sexy scenes. The chemistry between these two was never an issue and had way more to do with trust. The end of the book got a little silly to me and was kind of a mess. I felt it was too much and predictable which kind of ruined the ending. Other then the ending I loved this book and I am very excited for the next book which I hope is Alex and Ella.

In Make You Remember (Dumont Bachelors #2) by Macy Beckett, Devyn was left broken hearted 10 years ago by her high school boyfriend Beau. Devyn has never truly gotten over him or the hurt, and suddenly he is back in her life and she finds herself working for him on his family's riverboat. Devyn is determined to do a good job, but not to do Beau...no matter how much she is still attracted to him.

Beau is a former Marine, former security specialist, now partner on a Mississipi riverboat with his brothers. His family is complicated, and his relationship with his brothers is strong. But he has always regretted leaving Devyn. Now he's back, far from the boy he was in high school...if only Devyn could see that and forgive him so they can start again.

They can't help but be around each other on the riverboat, and the chemistry between them continues to build and sizzle. As they get to know each other again, discovering parts of the past hidden away, Beau finds he wants it all with Devyn. But with not only their personal history, but their family history and a legendary curse, will Devyn be willing to risk her heart on a second chance romance with Beau?

I really enjoyed Make You Remember! Macy gives us strong, memoriable characters who will make you want to laugh and cry! Devyn is independent and full of spice. She's never truly settled, and she struggles to get by. Believing in her family's legendary curse and voodoo, she's struck me as a bit of a free spirit. Macy's description of Beau is perfect, I can see him...the boy he was and the man he is. Macy really brings her characters to life, and by the end of Make You Remember I felt like I really knew them.

I love the setting, the Bayou, and the riverboat cruise. All of these combined made up a realistic, easy to visualize place in a fast paced, easy to fall into book.

The secondary characters, mainly Beau and Devyn's families, along with the legend of generations past, helps spice up the plot, adding intriguing layers. All of these are integral to the relationship that Beau and Devyn are struggling to build. I liked the carry over of characters from the first book in the Dumont Bachelor's (Make You Mine), but at the same time feel that Make You Remember can easily be read as a stand alone.

Macy writes an entertaining, saucy second chance romance romance filled with feeling in Make You Remember and I'd recommend Make You Remember to any contemporary romance reader.

Beckett’s contemporary series, Dumont Bachelor’s, continues with a lover’s reunited trope. This trope is one of my favorites so naturally I’m a sucker. Beckett plays some cards I didn’t expect, similar to the first book and what I’ve come to love about this author is her ability to surprise me.

There’s elements of a good story. A hero who ran from his high school sweetheart into a military career, Beau Dumont has made his fortune and is finally back to settle down. A heroine who’s suffered the longest case of bad luck all starting with the day Beau Dumont ditched her. Bad blood and confusing feelings are stirring between these two, and what starts as a chance to rekindle a friendship becomes a full blown seduction down the rabbit hole of love.

Other things I enjoy about Beckett’s stories:

They are funny. Whether it’s sister’s banging down doors to prevent someone for giving it up to easy or the storm-of-all-storms arriving to thwart true love, the humor is there. It’s either damn near believable or a tad fantastical, but acceptable because of the ‘Dumont Curse’ swirling around the heroes of the stories.

The sex is downright naughty, hot, and never the same ol’ same old. There’s creative positions, locations, and wide-ranging emotions thrown into the mix. In fact our heroine totally pulls a dude move on Beau at one point.

They keep the whole series rolling. Each book continues to wrap the secondary characters from upcoming books or previous ones into the mix and propel their stories without taking away from the main romance. It takes talent to make it work.

Overall, a nice contemporary romance with a touch of paranormal. This is for readers who enjoy Maisey Yates and Victoria Dahl.

Beau Dumont and Devyn Mauvais..was a match made in Heaven.

When they were in HS it was pure Magic between them. Then one day without a warning he was gone. A note and she never saw him again.
At the reunion she is backed up against a corner with her friends so to speak, well she puts herself there..when low and behold Beau Dumont comes to her rescue. Telling everyone that he's her boyfriend and her boss. Well now after the rescue he needs something from her.
I assure you what comes next you will laugh out loud.

The sparks between Beau and Devyn seems as it never died, however she has to be very cautious with her heart. To top it off there is a hex between there families. Beau is determined that they can break it.

A moment in time has Devyn recalling things she would rather forget. She can't and won't risk it again..what will become of there love for each other? Beau will prove to her one way or the other they're meant to be together. He let her go and won't this time around.

One look into a strangers eyes. Devyn realizes something and must make things right. It is a bittersweet moment, and she knows what she has to do.

When Mother Nature comes to play Beau is beside himself. He has no idea what will happen. The only thing he does know is he needs help, and getting to Devyn is his main concern. How he has not a clue when he's on the Belle of the Bayou filled with people in a storm, and could get worse at any moment. Devyn is on dry land in Cedar Bayou awaiting his return..She has done something that will grab at your heart. I cried, I laughed...A moment which was in one word.."Magical"

Macy Beckett has written an amazing series "The Dumont Bachelors" with these Dumont men where the love scenes are Hot and Sweet. I loved every moment of this book could not put it down.
