Over the years of being a Frightened Rabbit fan and being exposed to so much of Scott's art in the albums, the email newsletters, and various merch, it's overwhelming and heartening to have it all collected in one place. When he died, I saw a lot of fans share drawings he would make for them, and I think some of that is collected here (as well as some early t-shirt designs- I am glad to have one). I enjoyed seeing the band's illustrated history here of course, but his earlier art when he was a student is also much appreciated.
Most of Scott's art always made me laugh, and it's impossible to resist as a tribute or fan tattoo- several of which are collected here as well.
The illustrated drum heads (auctioned for charity, natch) from the TMOF10 tour got to me. Oh those celebratory shows.
A pretty well-done compendium, that I am sure could have been longer, with all the submissions from fans they didn't have room for. And that's who this book is for- the fans, the ones who miss him and the ones who've only come to know him recently and surely will in the future.
What is there to say? In Scott Hutchison, we witnessed someone with such a gift for lyrics, and art, and music, and it's a fucking tragedy that he's not around anymore. This book was incredible, and I'm so glad it exists.
Scott’s art is just as beautiful and humorous as his music and his personality. My favorite section is definitely the “December’s Traditions” ones, with little quips about Christmas on each card. Also, the “it’s the best bits that are colored in” one was fun, and seeing the things people are doing with his art / being inspired by his art in the “something carries on” section was awesome. I’ll forever be sad that we lost him so early, the world really missed out on so much great art that he never got to make. Rest in Peace Scott.
My day was made receiving this in the mail. Beautiful collection of Scott's art, which complements 'The Work' really well. Will revisit this lot I'm sure.
An absolutely wonderful collection. It always feels such a privilege to be able to see even more of all the ways Scott was talented. I’ll definitely be going back through this often in years to come.
So glad this was released. I just wish they dedicated less space to his art school work and fan tattoos and more space for his line drawings. That's the best chapter imo. Some pieces didn't really deserve the 2 page spreads (like the bone saying "I'm dead") and some didn't get featured at all (the art school chapter doesn't have the drawing he got an award for). All in all a great book that shows what a great talent we lost.
