　　京子的爸媽死於車禍，京子由叔叔嬸嬸領養，雖然他們對待京子如同自己的孩子，然而，京子的心中仍然覺得孤單。京子8歲那一年遇見美國大兵荷西，荷西教京子跳一種古巴舞，雖然只有短短的五個月，但是這五個月卻在京子心中埋下了一顆希望的種子。

　　漸漸長大的京子，一直記得荷西這個人，一直記得荷西教她跳舞，一直記得跳舞的感覺，因為那是一種不放棄希望，要勇往直前的感覺，就算是買新衣服、在學校被老師稱讚、坐雲霄飛車、和朋友去游泳都不會有跟荷西一起跳舞時，會讓人忘掉所有煩惱的感覺，這種感覺一天一天長大，變得非常牢固而有力量，京子開始存錢，開始準備到美國去，她只有一個目的，找到荷西。

　　京子，一個人，展開美國尋找荷西這一趟旅程，像是一場公路電影，京子在這旅程上，遇見了許多曾經認識荷西的朋友，但他們一開始都不願意告訴她荷西真正的下落，然而不知道是不是每個人都被京子心中那顆不滅的希望火種所感動，這個來自日本的弱小女子，究竟為什麼要見到荷西？為什要荷西對她這麼重要？為什麼在京子的身上散發著一種不可思議的堅韌？

　　日本小說家之神村上龍，以這本小說為藍本，將京子拍成電影，由實力派演員高岡早紀演出那個堅強帶著夢想的舞者。京子透過尋找荷西的旅程，漸漸發現心中的鐵絲網被剪斷了，銳利，刺人流血的生命之網，雖然時時會跑出寂寞與哀傷，但京子卻從來沒有屈服，她用勇敢和夢想，將心中的鐵絲網剪斷了。

About the author

Ryū Murakami (村上 龍) is a Japanese novelist and filmmaker. He is not related to Haruki Murakami or Takashi Murakami.

Murakami's first work, the short novel Almost Transparent Blue, written while he was still a student, deals with promiscuity and drug use among disaffected Japanese youth. Critically acclaimed as a new style of literature, it won the newcomer's literature prize in 1976 despite some observers decrying it as decadent. Later the same year, Blue won the Akutagawa Prize, going on to become a best seller. In 1980, Murakami published the much longer novel Coin Locker Babies, again to critical acclaim.

Takashi Miike's feature film Audition (1999) was based on one of his novels. Murakami reportedly liked it so much he gave Miike his blessing to adapt Coin Locker Babies. The screen play was worked on by director Jordan Galland. However, Miike could not raise funding for the project. An adaptation directed by Michele Civetta is currently in production.

Murakami has played drums for a rock group called Coelacanth and hosted a TV talk show.

So very different novel from other Ryū Murakami books.
So calm, so full of hope and some kind of loneliness.
An still, after reading the very last word, you feel as if you just made a journey to your true self and now you know, what to do and where to go next.

Comment dire? Ça change ! Ici, pas de sexe, pas de drogues, pas de violence, juste de la douceur et de l'espoir. Bien qu'au départ j'étais quelque peu agacé par la quasi perfection de Kyoko et l'effet quelque peu exagéré qu'elle procure aux personnages, je me suis rendue compte que Kyoko représente l'espoir. C'est l'espoir pour les condamnés mais aussi pour les rêveurs. Aussi, il est vraiment inhabituel mais très agréable de voir cette sorte de collaboration entre le Japon et l'Amérique latine. En gros, une lecture douce qui m'a émue.

Loved it. Read it in a few days. In typical fashion ( I am finding) it's the lyrical sadness and honesty of the Japanese writers that is both captivating and beautiful. Finding a friend- who doesn't remember you in a foreign country to help in the care of AIDS. Strange story line but works a treat..

J'ai beaucoup beaucoup aimé. C'est très cinématographique, la galerie de personnages est délicieuse (avec une diversité à faire serrer les fesses aux racistes, on adore), la construction polyphonique marche vraiment bien en ce qu'elle permet ces multiples points de vue sur Kyoko, qui est vraiment le fil rouge de la narration, ça avance vite, on ne s'ennuie pas mais on a quand même le temps de s'attacher et de sentir venir la p'tite larme à la fin.

Je vais de ce pas me procurer d'autres livre de Ryu Murakami, même s'il paraît que ce livre est un peu à part dans sa bibliographie !

Kyoko est un personnage résilient et inspirant. Cette jeune fille japonaise quitte son pays natal pour une quête bien précise, retrouver un homme qu'elle n'a pas vu depuis 12 ans. Arrivée dans un New York ethniquement divisé et violent, elle devient un message d'espoir, de tolérance et d'unité là où elle passe. Une jolie histoire d'amitié, de danse et de vie et de mort ancrée entre le Japon, les États-Unis et Cuba.

c’est un bon 4,5 mais cm vs pouvez le constater je ss qqun qui cultive le positif dc dans ces cas là je ne mets pas 4 mais 5 !
j’ai vraiment bien fait de le lire après les bébés de la consigne automatique en tt cas ca a vrm eu l’effet escompté :
je l’ai trouvé beau et léger
c’est des livres comme j’aime bien en lire souvent !
j’ai aimé l’histoire et ce qui en découle c’était vraiment très agréable à lire (sauf la partie sur la vieille femme juive qui râle tt le temps là elle elle m’a un peu gavé)
j’aime
+ j’aspire à être + comme Kyoko !

Franchement, je m’attandais pas à ça.. j’ai très hate de lire d’autres livres de l’auteur car si j’ai pu bien comprendre celui-ci était le plus marginal par rapport à ses autres romans. ( je sais pas si j’ai bien utilisé le mot marginal mais normalement oui? Bref) comme il dit dans la postface: « Dans ce roman-ci, il n’y a ni sexe, ni sadomasochisme, ni drogue, ni guerre » et ça m’a vraiment intrigué sur ses autres oeuvres… si vous pouviez m’en recommander ce serait adorable merci

Après avoir lu d’autres romans de Ryû Murakami on pourrait douter que ça soit lui-même qui ait écrit Kyoko. C’est léger et rempli d’espoir. kyoko et tous les autres personnes sont attachants. C’est comme « une pause » dans l’écriture et le monde singulier de cet auteur.

“The future is already in my hands.
When I try to grasp it, it disappears.
When I turn it into a goal, it disappears.
It makes me anxious,
yet it comes into being when I keep moving within the process.”

When I was reading Kyoko,
I was exhausted—mentally and physically—
from job anxiety, fear about the future,
and at the same time an intense desire not to miss out on “big success.”

I was preparing for the future,
but in truth, I was living it in advance.
Every plan carried the weight of proving my worth.

Then I stopped at this sentence:

“The future is already in my hands.
But when I try to grasp it, it disappears.”

This wasn’t optimism or comfort.
Its roots trace back to the Diamond Sutra, which teaches that
no moment—past, present, or future—can be owned or fixed as “me.”

The teaching isn’t that time doesn’t exist,
but that there is no solid self that can possess time.

I realized my suffering didn’t come from uncertainty itself,
but from building my identity on outcomes that had not yet arrived.

That insight brought me back, as a Christian,
to the words of God I had almost forgotten:

I live today faithfully,
but my identity and my results
I entrust to God.

I feel experiences,
but I do not call them me.

Anxiety and plans arise,
but I do not place myself on top of them.

I do not try to prove myself.
I remain in God.

Kyoko does not tell us to abandon the future.
It asks us not to possess it.

This book didn’t erase my anxiety.
Instead, it taught me something quieter and more lasting:
anxiety is not who I am.

I still prepare.
I still worry at times.
But I no longer build my selfhood on what has yet to come.

The future is not a target to seize,
but something that unfolds
only when I stay honest within the process of today.

Хоть сейчас я нахожусь в таком состоянии, которое не позволяет мне в полной мере чувствовать книги, все равно я получила удовольствие.
Добрый роман, который в очередной раз мне напомнил о том, что люди оказывают друг на друга огромное влияние, что человек продолжает жить даже после смерти, что в мире есть не только жестокость, но и милосердие.

lui j’ai trop kiffé je l’ai trouvé random pour 2€ et je l’ai pris juste pour la couverture (dsl j’ai jugé le livre à sa couverture😔…) jsp l’histoire m’a grave prise alors que c’est pas forcément qqch qui me chaufferait de base!! c’est facile à lire et la fin est un peu triste

It's my third Murakami book. What I remember from Love and Pop was how hard the theme could be and Kyoko promised to be a soft one about a more hopeful, coming of age roadtrip. However, it might not be violent or hardcore as his other ones, it is clearly more peaceful but don't be fooled, it's not all rainbows and sunshines and it can get incredibly heartwrenching.
Once again, it's very short, I read it in a day while sick and the different POVs really depict a complete picture of their journey in America and I really liked it.
Kyoko's chapters were the best to me and her last chapter was the strongest in the book and I really liked it.

If i had read this book without knowing the author's name, i would never have thought that it was written by Ryu Murakami. A touching story filled with both sadness and happiness. An incredibly comfortable read. There is so much cruelty in our world that sometimes it feels like we are all doomed, but faith in humanity returns after reading this book.
