The Charm Bracelet

Rate this book
When Lisa Archer's charm bracelet is caught in a mall escalator, she is rescued by a flippant but dashing EMT. Steve Rollins seems to understand only too well Lisa's mixed feelings toward her escort, Dr. Bryan Cooper, who gave her the bracelet. Lisa and Steve meet again, and the sparks fly. Steve is sure Lisa hates him, and Lisa can't help comparing vibrant Steve to mediocre Bryan, although Steve makes her furious every time she sees him. This sweet romantic novel has elements of Christian faith.

FROM AUTHOR'S WEBSITE: I'm a native of central Maine, and grew up on a small farm with a wonderful mom and dad, three sisters and a brother. Most of my books take place in small towns, many of them in Maine.

My husband, Jim, and I moved to his birth state, Oregon, for a while after we were married, but decided to move back to Maine and be near my family. It allowed our six children to grow up feeling close to their cousins and grandparents, and some of Jim's family have even moved to Maine!

Our children are all home-schooled. When Jim retired from his vocation as an editor at a daily newspaper, we moved from Maine to Kentucky.

I've always loved reading, history, and horses. These things come together in several of my historical books.
Another longtime hobby of mine is genealogy, which has led me down many fascinating paths. I'm proud to be a DAR member! Some of Jim's and my quirkier ancestors have inspired fictional characters.

For many years I worked for the Central Maine Morning Sentinel as a freelancer. This experience was a great help in developing fictional characters and writing realistic scenes. I also published nonfiction articles in several magazines and had several short stories appear in Woman's World, Grit, and Alfred Hitchcock's Mystery Magazine.

I have had this book on my kindle for quite awhile and I have wanted to read it.
I am glad I did this past week. The story was different to what I was expecting (Part of not being able to read the blurb on a kindle). Lisa now lives in the city with a job as a graphic designer for an ad company. She moved to be closer to her Dr boyfriend who has given her a charm bracelet with new charms for special occasions. The book starts with her at a restaurant expecting a ring when she gets yet another charm. As they leave she has gets into a situation where they need to get the EMTs to rescue her. Here she meets Steve who she is drawn to.

She has already been question her relationship to her Dr boyfriend. After 3 years of dating why isn't he committing and why doesn't he seem as invested in the relationship. Also wondering if they are on the same page. Another meeting with Steve has her heart skipping but there will be a lot of hurdles. Brian (DR) is causing issues, Steve's sister her best friend is trying to match make and due to some misunderstandings Lisa and Steve think the other dislikes them.

I enjoyed seeing sparks fly and seeing Lisa grow as she dealt with Brian. It was also good to see here in a job she is very good at and coming up with ideas.
A good read if you like contemporary books and like seeing a heroine realise she is in a relationship going nowhere and has the courage to move on.

I love one of the last scenes in the book which I can't tell you about but it's worth the wait.

My thoughts: the charm bracelet is a charming novella about a woman who's been courted by the same man for 3 years with no commitment except for a charm bracelet when she gets a new charm every 3 months. An accident causes a paramedic to come rescue her when her charm bracelets gets caught and escalator. Thus begins a rather hit and miss relationship that didn't seem to go anywhere until suddenly it did. The story was sweet, probability level was low, but it was a nice read. It was told more than showed but it was still enjoyable. If you like novellas and love charm bracelets and paramedics you will love the story. I was given a copy free and all opinions are my own.

This book was a little unusual. The two main characters spent very little time together, yet fell in love. Lisa was not a very likeable person. She was whiny and petulant and when she was seriously betrayed, she was grouchy at everyone except her cheating boyfriend.

In spite of her efforts to be competent and professional, Lisa keeps getting in situations where she needs to be rescued. As an EMT, Steve also strives to treat victims with professional distance. Hurt and misunderstanding keep this couple apart when the reader is hoping they’ll get together. This “feel good” romance made me want to read on. The ending came a bit too suddenly for me, but I enjoyed the book all the way through. This is the first book I’ve read by Susan Davis and I’d like to read more.

A light read but nicely done by this author. There is some angst for Lisa but makes for a good plot. Has she wasted the years dating Bryan? What will she do? You need to read for yourself. Highly recommend. I received a copy from the author. Opinions are my own.
