Whoa, if you are looking for a lot of story thrown into a small, but beautifully put together book, then The Hotshots series is for you. I thought book one Reburn was pretty good, but Hot Zone, just took it up a notch in my opinion.

I love hot ripped alpha male, and Dade certainly ticks all those boxes. This series of books also contains a bit of suspense as well which makes you want to keep reading right until the end. Did she or didn't she.....well you'll just have to read the book to find out!

Can't wait for book 3, Here's hoping Anne releases it early 2014!!

Quick & Dirty: A red hot Firefighter, and one girl on the run, what could go wrong?

Opening Sentence: “Kiss the first hotshot you see.”

The Review:

Sarah Jo has taken a job cooking at the fire camp. She decides to take a dare from one of the other cooks. Sarah is going to kiss the first hotshot she sees, but luckily for her it’s Dade who she already has noticed. Dade has also noticed Sarah Jo, but he is totally shocked when she lays one on him. After that he just can’t stop thinking about her, and when a cop car shows up and Sarah Jo goes into a room with him… he realizes it won’t be that easy to stop thinking about her.

Although despite her attempts to distract him, Dade realizes that something is going with Sarah Jo, and when he actually meets, Thad, the police officer looking for her, he knows trouble is there. He follows Sarah Jo after she runs, and he is able to convince her to come back. Will she tell him what is going on before it’s too late? Will he be able save Sarah Jo from her troubled past?

This is a short, quick and easy read just like Reburn the first book in the series. I really didn’t realize you could pack so much story in so few pages! Overall, they are enjoyable reads. I liked the story, and the added element of Thad and the trouble he brings made the books even more interesting. I found a couple elements less than believable, but on that same note those same elements really endeared the story to me as well.

I like Sarah Jo, she is a bit of a wild child and definitely a free spirit. For a short read they make an interesting couple with a lot of potential. I wouldn’t expect to connect with anyone if they aren’t fleshed out and it’s not a super deep read.

Notable Scenes:

“Dating anyone in camp was a messy mistake, and he had no reason to think she might be interested anyhow.”

“That look spelled trouble.”

“The whole damn fire camp could burn down around them.”

“She’d opened her pretty little mouth and talked and talked.”

“She’d kissed him and just about gone up in flames.”

“After too many hours on her feet, Sarah Jo was glad to curl up on her bunk and hold a book instead of a spatula.”

“That was her vindication right there, but she cared for her client.”

“She generally acted like showing any kind of vulnerability was a crime.”

FTC Advisory: Kensington provided me with a copy of Hot Zone. No goody bags, sponsorships, “material connections,” or bribes were exchanged for my review.

Anne Marsh's "Hot Zone" will probably be either hit or miss for a novella of its length. I was able to read a short blurb of it in the Winter release snippet for Kensington Books, then requested a galley of it. The story revolves around a woman on the run named Sarah Jo who happens to come upon a group of firefighters while working for a group of cooks. The cooks have this thing each year where they randomly kiss the firefighters, and Sarah Jo just so happens to pick Dade to plant a steamy kiss upon.

Dade's caught off his guard (in more ways than one), and there's a bit of an insta-lust between them after the said kiss and some romantic interludes. But Sarah Jo carries a secret and much of it has to do with a deputy (Thad) who's hard nosed about pursuing her.

I honestly think that if this had been given novel treatment, it would've had a little more standing for the story it presented. (There were a few ick points with me, such as Sarah Jo's drive by kiss meeting with Dade and also Dade's reluctance to untie Sarah Jo after a rough encounter. But there may be some people who aren't as bothered by that as I was.) It's a decent effort for a mystery/suspense/thriller with romantic interludes, but it felt just a touch too quick for me to digest. I felt that even for the major characters established - Sarah Jo, Dade, and Thad - something was missing, and I couldn't put my finger on it until I realized that there could've been more development.

Still, quick read and a decent effort for what it provided. I'd read more from Anne Marsh in the future, notably to see how her longer work comes across.

Overall: 2.5/5 stars

Note: I received this as an ARC from NetGalley, from the publisher Kensington.

I really liked how this one opened, with a big old kiss. I thought all the other cooks were just kidding when they told Sarah Jo the story. I did like the romance between Sarah Jo and Dane, loved that they kept sneaking around, but you knew everyone in camp knew what was going on.

I found myself only mildly interested in the rest of the story, why Sarah Jo was on the run and who was after her. I did like how everyone in camp backed Sarah Jo up.

My rating: 4 of 5 ⭐️

She is only 300 miles from where her trouble started, but Sarah Jo feels pretty safe in the fire camp near Strong, California, where she had landed a job as cook in a diner. Not that she could cook really, but she was trying to make it look good and there was a lot of eye candy to keep her occupied. In particular Dade, second in command at the camp, was a big hunk of a man. But looking was all she would do, because men were definitely off the menu for her.

Walking into the diner after a jump seemed to brighten smoke jumper, Dade Johnson's days even more than normal. He had a feeling it had something to do with the arrival of one Sarah Jo at the diner. Couldn't cook to save her life, but she tried with gusto and had looks and attitude that put a smile on his face. So when he walks into the diner frustrated to have been called off a fire for a forced break, he doesn't hesitate to respond in kind when Sarah Jo suddenly plasters herself against him and kisses the living day lights out of him.

She took the dare and kissed him, but Sarah Jo hadn't expected him to kiss her back like that! nor had she expected to lose all sense of where she was while he was doing it. Determined to keep trouble from finding her in the camp, she tries to keep her distance from Dade, but he has had one taste and apparently that is not enough. Now that the sparks have flared, there is no holding back the fire.....

*****

A hot little number!!!!

As always with Anne Marsh books action and steamy romance is abundantly present. The story is fairly short and fast-paced, but despite that we still get a decent amount of necessary backstory and context.

Sarah Jo is a plucky and slightly unconventional woman hiding from an ex who has a long reach and it makes her a bit mistrusting of men in general, but those in any kind of uniform or position of authority in particular. She isn't so willing to share her troubles after having the tables turned on her the first time she tried doing that. Keeping her secrets to herself seems safest, except Dade seems to catch on to things easier than most.

Never needing more than a place to put his head at night, a good meal in his stomach and spending his days doing what he loves, fighting fire, Dade's needs aren't that complicated. So he is a bit surprised to find himself feeling protecting and territorial when it comes to Sarah Jo. She is making him want things he had never considered himself in the market for. Always a dominant man, he even felt quite comfortable playing on equal footing and respecting her boundaries.

The heat is on in this book for sure! Once these two have had a taste of each other, they can't seem to get enough. Playing it off as temporary physical release seems to be the easier label to give it, but both can sense that there is more bubbling under the surface.

Great speed and flow in the story, never a moment's rest for the reader. Anne has the ability to compact a complete story into a limited number of pages. Of course the development of events is therefore faster than might commonly occur, but that is to be expected.

✨Fast, fiery, roaring and racy!!✨

My Thoughts

With every romantic suspense book that I read written by author Anne Marsh it is impressed upon me how much fun the stories are to connect with. Both the main and secondary characters leap out of the pages and worm their way into your affections quickly, the plots that center around the mystery and danger as well as the firefighters themselves never fails to intrigue the reader as just enough information is given to whet your appetite for more.

The attraction between Dade and Sarah Jo was hinted at at the beginning of the story, the chemistry that the two find between themselves after sharing a kiss that was the result of a dare soon burns hotter than the flames from the wildfires popping up over the countryside!

The fact that this was a very quick short read did not in any way detract from it’s intensity or it’s appeal to those who love the pairing of Alpha male lead characters with unconventional females whose independent spirit matches that of her chosen partner.

Even though this is only a novella the story of how Dade and Sarah Jo become a couple is a marvelous addition to the series, really enjoy the companion books to the Smoke Jumpers and looking forward to more sizzling tales from the author. In comparison to the full length books written by the author this shorter glimpse into the world of these hardworking men and women never falls short but rather sets the stage for future works to come.

The second installment of Anne Marsh’s Hotshots series is even better than the first. Mixing the hot firemen with a woman with a secret, a touch of suspense and a whole load of sexual tension, Marsh brings us a novella that is bound to please.

Sarah is in ‘hiding’ from her past: working as an itinerant camp cook as her team provides meals for the men on the front line battling wildfires, the life and the lack of roots suits her just fine. Dade is content with his life on the front lines: fighting fires is what he is good at, and he doesn’t mind the more solitary life that his chosen profession provides.

Sarah is more carefree and friendly, even as she guards her secrets. Dade is the perfect archetypal moody boy, prone to monosyllabic answers and solitary pursuits unless a fire is involved. The story opens with Sarah’s laying one hot and surprising kiss on Dade: his reaction is priceless and the insta-lust is tangible.

Dade pursues Sarah, pushing her to open up: while she is willing to take a chance on their attraction, she isn’t sure that she dares trust him with her secrets. With a deputy hot on her trail, and new accusations of arson and theft that leave her no chance but to share or run, will Sarah take a chance on trusting Dade?

Hot and steamy with characters and information that is shared in equal measure to keep the plot moving forward and the story flowing. Characters arrive mostly complete, the development arrives in their interactions with one another: particularly effective with the abbreviated length of the novella form. This story brings more information about fighting fires in the wild, as well as provides us with new characters to enjoy, a touch of suspense, romance and a hot alpha firefighter to drool over. If you are looking for hot, clever and quick reading firefighter romances to feed your addiction: this is a good choice.

Hotshots 2 – Hot Zone totally lived up to my expectations again. We revisit the Hotshots with Sam Clayton’s second in command, Dade Johnson being the hot, sexy, brooding firefighter along with a woman who is being tracked by a police officer gone bad. What happens is an explosion of epic proportions when Dade frees Sarah Jo from the clutches of Deputy Thad Hill.

Sarah Jo has had her eye on Dade Johnson since she made her way into camp. Hiding from her past and not looking forward to her future, she takes a bet to kiss the first man that enters the mess tent at camp. Well, what a kiss that turned out to be and the future didn’t look so dim! But, her past was about to come back to haunt her with accusations of arson and theft. She knows the truth but who would take her word over that of police officer.

Dade Johnson lives a solitary life … happy with his trailer, his pittance of a paycheck and the job he does fighting wildfires. When Sarah Jo makes her way into camp, his libido kicks in and he can’t keep his mind off of her. The searing kiss seals the deal for him. He has to have her – in his bed, in the supply cabin – anywhere he can get her. Now, to figure out what she is hiding so that they could move forward together.

Yep, this was another “hot” Hotshots book. Dade is moody and loves one word answers and Sarah Jo just isn’t willing to tell her past. He get’s through to her with lots of hot sex … mind blowing sex that leaves you weak in the knees. Well, he also saves her from her nemesis. But, again, I have to comment on the firefighting back-ground and how well everything was written by Ann Marsh. She has a knack of mixing firefighting skills with love with a little drama that really wants you to have a hot fireman in your bed.

Sarah Jo is on the run and hiding out working as a camp cook for fireman. She has a crooked cop who is also her ex after her and she wants to stay out of sight. She isn't looking for love or lust just safety. When she is couched into giving a kiss to fireman Dade she isn't prepare for what she started. Dade has had his eye on Sarah Jo for a while. She isn't like the other cooks and he can tell she is hiding something. The two quickly come together after their kiss and the passion between them explodes. When the crazy ex finds Sarah Jo Dade has to see who he believes a man of the law or the woman with his heart.

Sarah Jo is at times to me funny. She wears clothes that don't really fit the area and likes to joke with the other cooks. She is scared and has been hurt before but doesn't give up on love. Sometimes I did wonder if she would just run. Dade is a hello sexy fireman. He really has never took down roots and lived in one spot. I will say in one scene he was on a motorcycle and that just made him so much hotter. He is a very loving man and protects those he cares about.

This is another short quick read but very hot. I love Dade and Sarah Jo from the start and really connected with both of them. There is a great plot as it has a crooked cop and a woman on the run. Sarah Jo runs from him but I will say she shows some backbone and spirit in the end. I also really enjoyed all the other fireman and cooks who stand up for her . Fireman really are like a big family and this book really shows you how much they can be one. The steamy scenes between Dane and Sarah Jo are wonderful and you can see while they may not have been around each other a long time they really belong together. I am really liking both books I have read in this series and my only complaint is I wish they were longer just because for me they are good and I want more.

Sexy and thrilling, Anne Marsh's Hot Zone delivers page-turning HOT read!

I was in the mood for a steamy hot romance so I started reading Anne Marsh's Hotshot series, as I had received Hot Zone (Hotshots book 2) from the publisher for review. I immediately was drawn into the story in Reburn (Hotshots book 1) and looked forward to book two.

What's not to love about this group of super alpha hero smoke jumpers / firefighters, who have a base camp deep in the woods. In Hot Zone (Hotshots book 2), we learn more about Dade Johnson who played a role in Reburn. I was waiting for his story as he is HOT, HOT, HOT! Cafeteria helper Sarah Jo is equally drawn to this tough guy with a heart of gold and the kiss he lays on him at the beginning of the story - just WOW!

But all is not as it seems as Sarah Jo is on the run and her hesitancy to get really involved with Dane might just torpedo any possible relationship.

Anne Marsh is able to deliver a very complicated plot with a lot of steamy action and suspense in a very few words (this is really a novella not a novel). But that capability just goes to show what a talented author she is.

If you're looking to put some heat in your e-reader, this is the series for you!

My Review
4.5 Star Review – Reburn & Hot Zone

I recommend these books.

I enjoyed these books by Anne. These book include passion, laughs, suspense, heartache, and pain.

REBURN (Hot Shots #1)

Sam is trying to fight a fire but has to find a woman who is hunting down a terrorist. When he finds Olivia he must get them out of the forest without the fire killing them. Olivia just wants to find her man. But what happens when the hunted becomes the hunter. Will they make it out of the woods alive? Or will the hunter or the fire get them first?

HOT ZONE (Hot Shots #2)

Sarah must kiss the first man that walks into the camp. Of course who walks in but Dade the one man that she should not have. Sarah is running from her past. She is hiding in this camp and will move on soon. Hopefully before her past catches up with her. Dade is determined to protect Sarah from her past.

Dade believes Sarah is too young for him. She does not belong in this camp. She is not a good cook so he can't figure out what she is doing there. When Sarah's past catches up will Dade be around to save her? Will he even want to?

Both books contain strong alpha males and stubborn women. They battle through the book but in the end come together as better people. The men are both compassionate and sweet at times but are fiercely protective. You also learn a little about the firefighters that these men fight with. Very good read. Can't wait for the next book from Anne.

Hot Zone is the second novella in Anne Marsh’s Hot Shot’s series. This novella is a quick read romance focusing on the men of the Big Bear Rogue firefighters. These men are adrenaline junkies spending their time in the field fighting the fiercest of blazes only returning to camp to rest their bodies enough to get their strength back to put them back into the heat.

Dade Johnson is one sexy Rogue that embraces his time in the heat with little distracting him from his job. Sarah Jo is a new camp employee whose fresh looks and free spirit has caught the attention of Dade. A traditional bet amongst the ladies of the kitchen puts Sarah Jo in the hot seat literally as she playfully plants a scorching kiss on Dade igniting everything in him. Sarah Jo is in for quite a surprise when Dade’s response is willing and filled with true desire for her. Now the chemistry has been created and the chase is on, but Sarah Jo isn’t looking to explore anything with Dade since she is running from her past, hell bent being alone. When her past shows up in the form of a deputy set on vengeance, she finds her new found “relationship” with Dade gives her protection and a real sense of security. Dade just needs Sarah Jo to open up and learn to run to him instead of away.

Hot Zone is the second novella in Anne Marsh’s new spin-off series, The Hotshots. It features Dade Johnson, second-in-command of the Big Bear Rogue hotshots. He has spent his entire adult life fighting fires. It is not until he met Sarah Jo, a scorchingly sexy free-spirit that he HZdiscovered his true passion.

On the run and hiding out in a fire camp always felt temporary until a dare puts her in the arms of the sexy, ash covered, hotshot Dade. Sarah Jo quickly ascertains that the spark between them is hotter than the wildfires his team fights daily. Sarah Jo is an adorably quirky character. I thought the author did an incredible job tossing in bonus details (i.e. her t-shirts) to maintain my interest.

The romance was accelerated, yet authentic. The compact story length left me wanting more. I would love to read an extension of their story – even as a subplot of a future novel.

Congrats Anne Marsh on igniting a fire that is categorically a four-alarm.

Hot Zone by Anne Marsh is the second book in her Hotshots series.

Dade Johnson is second in command on the Hotshots team and enjoys a solitary life. So when a new camp cook strolls in he can't understand why his hormones won't stay under control. There's just something about Sarah Jo that he can't ignore. The closer he gets the more obvious it becomes she's hiding something.

Sara Jo is on the run and in hiding but despite that, she can't help but be hot, madly in lust with one of the guys in camp. Dade Johnson is the hottest guy in camp and she's not going to be able to keep her hands off him, let alone worry about her secret catching up with her.

Longer than the first book but still in the realm of novella length, this is a fast-paced, cram packed tale of lust, love, secrets and betrayal.

This new Hot Shot story had me grinning in anticipation from the start. I enjoy the camaraderie and loyalty of the Hot Shots and how they band together when danger comes and there is just enough wild fire reference to bring you into their world. The romance between Sarah and Dade was smoking hot and the story line of her dangerous past kept me anxiously turning the pages. A fun quick read. I can’t wait for the next one.

Sarah Jo is on the run and a fire camp is the perfect place to hide. It’s really remote and the full of big hot men. She’s instantly attracted to Dade Johnson, the second in command of his team of hotshots. Full of hot firemen this story has it all, it’s got attraction, chemistry and a heroine who has to learn to let others help her.

I really enjoyed Dade and Sarah Jo’s courtship, it started with a dare and only got hotter from there. I loved Ms. Marsh’s writing style, she brought the whole camp to life for me. I really felt like I was right there in the fire camp with them. She obviously has done extensive research, because she seemed to have all the terms down and writes a very cohesive story.

I highly recommend this for fans of firefighter romance. It’s hot, sexy and a very satisfying read. I read it all in one sitting and will be going back to read the first book in the series as well.

Sara Jo's running from her past and sexy, Hotshot, Dade Johnson, wants to protect her. He just doesn't know what he'd be protecting her from.

Hotshots are specially trained fire crews that work for the U.S. Forest Service. Anne Marsh continues her Hotshots series with another fabulous book and these men are smokin' hot! Even though it seemed like their relationship started too fast, we have to realize that we did not come in at the beginning. When the story started, Dade and Sara Jo were already acquainted and there was an attraction between them. There was some dangerous sparks flying in that RV. I truly enjoyed this book even though I wish it were longer. I'm definitely keeping a close eye on this author and her sexy alpha fire fighters.

Dade is a Hotshot and helps out the Smoke Jumpers at a fire camp. This camp is very bust during fire season and this requires cooking and other staff to be available. Sarah Jo is a cook at the fire camp. One day while working, the other cooks dare her to kiss the first fire guy that comes up in line. Sarah Jo wants to fit in, so she does it.

Dade and Sarah Jo both know that the kiss they shared wasn't enough. As these two get closer, a secret from Sarah Jo's past comes to the surface. She doesn't want anyone to know because she wants to handle it on her own but Dade has other plans.

This was an okay story. A little too cut and dried for me. A tiny bit of suspense and a lot of sex. Hot sex, so that part was good. Will I go on with the series? I don't know.

Hot Zone is number 2 in the Hotshots series. I have read a book from her Smoke Jumpers series. Anne Marsh writes alpha males that are smokin hot. Dade Johnson is no exception. He's second in command of the camp and a hero firefighter.

Sarah Jo's hiding from her past. Her cooking skills are in question, but her ability to torture Dade's thoughts are not. He's convinced himself she's too young and he cannot be interested in a temp camp cook with wild, multicolored hair. A dare brings all this this chemistry to a sizzling boil. Dade's determined to get close and find out what makes her want to run.

A fast paced story with a bit of drama, steamy romance, and nice HEA.

This is a great short story with a lot of plot crammed in, along with some very awesome main characters.
I love Dade hes a hot sexy alpha man who knows what he wants and goes after Sarah Jo even when she tries to push him away. Dade wants more than a one night stand.

Sarah Jo doesnt trust easy and finds it hard to see that there could be more than just sex for her and Dade.

There is suspense and mystery that keep you on your toes and the sex scenes are smokin’ with some romantic moments.

I kind of wish there was more to this story as there wasnt any time in the book to have any real involvement from secondary characters so it wasnt as fleshed out as most stories, but for a short novella type it was ok.

Oh my, this book is HOT! I loved Dade *fans self* he is one smokin’ hot hero! I have to say I didn’t always understand Sarah Jo’s secret keeping (especially after the first time Dade kept her safe from the man she is fleeing) but it didn’t keep me from liking her as a character. These two had some serious chemistry and were in danger of burning the whole forest down. This is not a long book but it was a very enjoyable read. I’m looking forward to more of this series and more from this author. If you’re looking for a hot read with a hot fireman look no further. I received an ARC of this book from the publisher through Net Galley in exchange for an honest review.

Nanee's Review: upallnightreadallday.blogspot.com

Sexy as hell Dade Johnson, he's a hero (hotshot second in command), rock solid muscles, ruggedly handsome and sweet and protective..Sarah Jo is a free spirited camp cook (who can't cook...lol), sweet, not trusting and self reliant women. I loved these two together, I thought the writer captured their chemistry perfectly. Once Sarah Jo had a taste of Dade she needed and wanted more. Very hot sex scenes (scorching). Thought the secondary characters were great. I would love to read more by this author. This is the first I read in this series would love to read more. 4 stars

Hot Zone is the 2nd book in Anne Marsh's "Hotshots" series.
This fast-paced novella has Dade, a hot forest firefighter, coming to the rescue of Sarah Jo, a woman on the run.
Determined to keep her ex-husband (cop gone bad) from finding her she hides at the fire camp. Sarah Jo tries to stay away from Dade yet after one kiss the sparks ignite and their passion flares. Playing with fire until her past catches up with her Sarah Jo will have to choose between revealing her secrets or taking them both down in flames.
Difficult to put down, this story was exciting and I look forward to more of this author's work.

This novel moved along a a fast clip. The Hotshot firefighter angle was interesting and well thought out and described. A romantic story about two strong mature intelligent characters. I became emotionally invested in the story and quite attached to Dade and Sarah Jo. The secondary characters are interesting and as the second book in the series it stands alone as well. I found that Ms. Marsh has another series about Smoke Jumpers, which looks like a great series as well, and I would be likely to read both after reading this taste of her writing. Right now, I'm waiting for the next Hotshots book!

Sometimes Novellas do not bother me. However they do when they leave me seriously wanting more from the story. Sarah Jo is on the run and working in a fire camp hiding from her ex boyfriend. Dade is a firefighter who isn't really one for settling down.

There is a dare, a series of hot kisses, and bad news when the ex shows up, the hotshots banding together to protect her, and yea it seriously has the potential to be a full length book that would drag you in and keep you stuck.

Just wish it was longer.

Meh... this book was just OK for me.

Quick read, about 100 pages.... with a hot fireman, an independent and stubborn alt girl and a psycho ex.
The synopsis sounded intriguing and it could have been a good story, but it was a bit flat for me.

Some of it didn't make any sense, especially the I love yous! I also feel as though I learned more about fires than I did about Sarah Jo!
The characters lacked depth, it needed more back story and frankly more emotion and dialogue.

Holy cow! I have read all of the books in the series so far, and I think this was the hottest book ever! With a hero by the name of Dade, who is a firefighter, and a heroine, Sarah Jo, who is running from her past by working as a cook at a fire camp, they meet for the first time by her agreeing on a dare from her co-workers to kiss the first guy who gets in line to pick up some food. It just gets more exciting and hotter from there. This is a book that I could not stop reading and for that to happen to me personally means that this book is fantabulous! Highly recommended.

I found this book to be a predictible, "Harlequin" type romance with a little token drama thrown in. I really had a hard time getting through this book because I didn't like the heroine. I can't put my finger on it, but something about her inner dialogue annoyed me and made me really impatient with this woman. I just could come to care about these characters. Now if your into hot firefighters, go find a book called Aftershock by Jill Shavis - thats more like what this should have been.

Whew....that was a HOT little read. While short, and sweet it still had some story, if not terribly complex. I enjoyed seeing more of the Rogues from book 1 and I want more on Rio Donovan for next book pleas! Dade was hot and alpha and, well amazing. Sarah Jo was likeable despite her secret keeping, and the need for independence. 3 1/2 stars for this quick firefighter read!

I just didn't feel Dade and Sarah Jo as a long term couple. A nice summer fling, sure, but nothing beyond that. Sarah Jo wasn't a character I was interested in as her thoughts were all about herself and running away. Dade was a good man doing dangerous work so he doesn't need to be constantly wondering if she'll be there when he gets home. They just didn't mesh for me. I liked the story just not Sarah Jo.

Thanks Netgalley for the ARC.
