When Elizabeth switches schools her sophomore year once again coming face to face with her old classmates; she has no idea what to expect. After all she was no longer "beefy Beth" the girl who was teased for her weight. Now preferring to be called Liz, she has her new slim down look and is determined to move on from that horrendous nickname.

First week back Liz catches the eye of a senior named Logan. He's popular and she can't believe that a hot guy like Logan would like a girl like her. Yeah some self esteem issues linger... Aside from that Liz has secrets and if her relationship with Logan ever gets back to her step-dad there will be hell to pay.

Characters & Relationships
Each relationship in this book stood out so much that even when you only met one character briefly, who they are and what they’re about is clear. For instance we meet a woman named Marilyn and the second she opens her mouth you clearly understand her jacked up relationship with her son. Enabler.
NOTE: Safer Oustside will actually give you a good dose of parents throughout the book. I don't know about you but I really like that in my YA reads.

Liz and Kim
Liz is this sweet naïve 15yr old and we get that right away. The way she is so uncertain and hesitant; she has no clue how to handle the attention Logan show towards her and I ate that up! I love the innocence of first love and Renee captured it well. The dynamics between Liz and her best friend Kim I absolutely loved.

‘ Usually the topic at any given moment was around her clothes and boys that she was into.’ -Liz referring to Kim

I thought it was smart to have the two girls from two different backgrounds yet somehow it works. Kim never tried to control Liz, even when you sensed her jealousy when Logan showed interest in Liz, Kim supported her friend. The ugly green monster never reared its ugly head in fact when given the chance to sabotage the relationship Kim did not do it. She was a true friend to Liz.

Liz and Logan
At first I was skeptical of Logan but the more I got to know him the more I realized he was a good guy. These two were super sweet together! Sometimes they were a bit too sweet and those cheesy moments kind of made me do the eye roll in an ok I get it, you two love each other, its new and cute I GET IT.LOL!

My Rating and Why
I gave Safer Outside 3 STARS because I liked it but I didn’t love it. I really think the book could have been longer. For one, Logan and Liz progress to fast. I think it took like three days and one date for them to be in love. I think the author could have had a few filler pages of them on the phone chatting or on another date and then span it over a few weeks time. The time jump comes later on in the book and..well I felt it to be misplaced; in my humble opinion of course .
The writing was good but a bit predictable.

SPECIAL NOTE: This is a Mature –YA, it does have a sex scene, strong language and abuse. None of this bothered me. I felt the author gave a good depiction of teens.

*I have received a copy of this book from the author for an honest review.*

Are you kidding me??
The book ended?
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
I wanted more. Wait a minute! Will this have a sequel? Because if so I could probably forgive the lack of an epilogue. C'mon, why didn't you write an epilogue for some years later? I am soooo upset about that right now.

I actually enjoyed this read so very much. It was written in a very easy to read manner. It was fun, and although it had its anxiety filled moments it wasn't over the top. All was done super great.

I only gave it 4* because of the missing epilogue and the fact that Liz was only 15, maybe if she was a bit older it would have been more ok for my liking. But who am I scamming? Love doesn't have time barriers, right? Right!

I had my doubts about Logan's interest at first because he was just so into Liz from the first time he saw her but now I see that he was the real deal. And OMG could a guy be more romantic than that??? I loved all his gestures for her.
I liked Liz very much, she was a little shy, and modest and had some brave cojones for putting up with all that at home, she was also loyal and funny and friendly. I enjoyed reading her POV.

Why I would like a sequel, and for the love of all that is holy, I hope you read this Ms. Renee:
1. For me the Amanda thread was not fully closed.
2. I want to know more about Kim, she was a wonderful friend and she sounds super interesting.
3. I want to know if Liz's mom gets together with Logan's dad, that would be at the same time awesome and freaky (I mean for our two lovebirds).
4. I want more of Adam and Bryant.
5. What's up with Logan not wanting to reveal his drawings? From what I got they are amazing, and he didn't show them to Liz in the span of this book. So I think that needs to be addressed.
6. I want more background on Logan. Why did Becky say he was an asshole? I want to read something from his POV, that would be AMAZING.
7. I want a freaking EPILOGUE. (I swear to God, this is the last time I'm gonna mention the epilogue. But
if you write something please put it somewhere visible, I want want want).

And I should stop here before I send you my Christmas list LOL

Loved it chica, really!

I received this book in exchange for an honest review.

Fun fact: This is the second book I’ve read in a row that’s mentioned an Adele song. I swear this singer is everywhere.

I liked this book. The characters were definite and never vague, and there was one certain character who always kept you on the edge of your seat with their unpredictability. The plot was easy to follow and tied up rather nicely (maybe a little bit too nicely, but after what Liz and her family went through its easy not to care about how conveniently things fall into place.

Saying that, the plot had its predictable moments. The predictable moments didn’t really bother me since I was too caught up with the characters, and there are some unpredictable moments – especially in regards to a certain character.

I thought that the characterisations were very nicely done. The teenagers sounded like teenagers*, the trashy people sounded trashy, the child sounded like and adorable child and so on. Liz and Kim’s friendship came off as genuine, which is great since they’re such different people from different backgrounds. And I am very relieved that I’m not the only reviewer who thought Logan was going to do a 180 and decide to be a dick to Liz or tell her that them dating was all a prank. There’s just something about Logan that makes you question how genuinely he feels for Liz – maybe Liz’s insecurities were stuck in our heads and we weren’t expecting her to have such a nice, romantic and genuine love interest?

I really wish we learned more about Logan. And why is it suddenly mentioned that he’s fluent in French in the second half of the book rather than nearer the start? That random little fact, to me, just kind of popped out of nowhere and disappeared again. (And an opportunity to have cute/funny French-speaking moments was missed :c) But, luckily, there are two more books to be written so maybe we’ll get to find out more about him, his art, and why he’s even fluent in French in the first place.

This was a really enjoyable book and I’d recommend it to anyone who likes YA romance (with a warning about certain themes, of course).

*Now I think about it, I found it funny that Logan kept calling Liz “love” (it made him sound old lol), but maybe that’s just something NZ teenagers don’t say.

I really enjoyed reading this book and I couldn't put it down once I started reading. I was disappointed when I finished reading it because it could have been longer or there should be a sneak peek in their future. It was a happy ending but it's the type even though it's the end it felt lacking.

Elizabeth "Liz" moved back to her old middle school and started a new. New name minus the extra body weight. She not only tries to live her new image but she also tries to escape the problems home. She then captured the attention of Logan, a senior student. As they start to have relationship Liz has trouble deciding whether to be with Logan or not due to the baggage she carries.

Safer outside was just written right but probably except for the ending but that's just for me.

Liz may still be insecure about herself but she grew stronger as the story goes on. Despite being with Logan she still thinks of her family and will do anything for them to keep them safe. She is far stronger than her mother ( I hated her throughout the whole story but liked her a little bit at the end). In the end, it was up to her to save her family.

Logan was really sweet. I had trepidations about them being together at first but Logan won me, I mean Liz. He is also very romantic. The things he did for her for showing his feelings for her were just so so... I'm glad that he turned out to be a great guy.

Liz mother was well, let's just say she had her wake up call and it took Liz for her to realize that she was really in the wrong.

But overall, it was great read. It's pretty realistic although the feelings of Logan and Liz for each other were probably too fast.

I can't wait to read the rest of this series once it's out.

I received an arc in exchange for an honest review.

I was given an ARC provided by the author.

I realy liked this book. It was so full of emotions that overwhelmed me sometimes. The heroine is only a teenager and already has to deal with some pretty serious shit in life. She was very mature for her age. It was like she`s hundreds of years old with all the problems she has, but she pulled through and she managed to take care of her siblings. That was kind of amazing.

Logan was so sweet and kind and wanted to be there for Liz but she was so stubborn and I honestly wanted to smack her on the head. I know she thinks she had a good reason for acting like that but I think it would be all a lot easier if she just confided in him.

Jessie...hm...sorry excuse for a human being. I was sick at times when I read about how he was and what did he do. I wished so many times something to happen, a lightning or a meteor so it would end his sorry life. For the longest time into the book I thought the same for Liz`s mother. I mean, what kind of person, or better yet, what kind of mother let somebody treat her children like that. I was so angry at her and although for some she made up for it, she never will if you ask me.

The story was great, the characters even better and I enjoyed reading it very much. :)

** I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review **

This story follows Liz (don't call me Beth) Martin as she begins her sophomore year of high school. Liz's home life is quite tragic, and she is happy to be making a fresh start at a new school with her best friend, Kim. The new people that she meets at school mixed with the crazy events at home make this story a wild ride!

I wasn't sure when I started this book if it was the kind of book I'd enjoy. I have read YA that I have liked a lot but this one seemed a little younger. It didn't take me long to realize that this book dealt with some very serious and very adult issues. I admired Liz for being able to handle it so well and juggle the things in her life with grace. I was surprised, in a good way, about how easily I fell into the story!

I loved the characters, the story and the way it all played out. I genuinely liked Liz, and Kim, and Logan. I rooted for a good outcome. The way that the story changed and evolved kept me hooked - I absolutely enjoyed this book! Great read!

Wow, "Safer Outside" was absolutely awesome and I really enjoyed reading it. The characters, especially Liz and Logan, with the exception of one, were freaking fantastic. Liz and Logan were very mature for their ages, and their interactions with each other were truly entertaining. Logan was especially funny, sweet, and had a huge and giving heart. Plus he was sexy as heck:) Although Liz's home life was less than desirable, I still enjoyed the story line and was pleasantly surprised by the ending. I'm really looking forward to reading the rest of The Outside Series! Thanks for the free copy Kristina!

5 stars to the author for setting this in the bay area.
Safer Outside is a story about a girl who likes the be referred to as "Liz", she was trying to keep the fat girl profile away from her, so she could re-invent herself at her new school.Growing up I related to "Liz", I was the mother hen to my younger brothers and have witnessed abuse, so this kind of brought up some feelings. But I did see this character as her thinking too low of herself, I kind of at times wanted to slap her, but she is not Bella (thank God)

Liz could stand to be stronger, seemed like she had balls to go toe to toe with her Stepfather and Mother, trying to put them in their places, but when it came to her boyfriend Logan, she would be submissive but she had her bitch card to keep him in check. Logan is a cocky one but like all book boyfriends we want him to care for us and be alpha but he didn't overstep his boundaries. Also I appreciated that there was too much "texting" dialogue, I find them to be extremely boring and honestly stupid, .

A lot of the home scenes were boring because all she did yes was take care of Brian and Macy but I would of loved to read the condition of the house and get a feel exactly, not just that she lived near a strip mall and there was pit bulls around, I know San Jose is ghetto (certain areas) but there could of been more effort put into scenery.

absolutely had my face slapping moment. Where I blushed and I can agree that most ladies have said this during sex "I want to have your babies" Yes, I laughed and hid under the pillow, I died for Liz, and I imagined Logan's face, yea it was funny

GUSHED, over the things Logan did, he was just romantic, always so patient and thinking of Liz. There could of been a little bit more drama with Becky and Amanda, just some snips here and there. "Austin" in my opinion really had no place here, he was sprinkled in certain parts but in any romance novel the rule is there has to be at least one gay character.

Overall. I enjoyed reading this, only sad thing was it was too short, 250 pages was not enough for me. I wanted to continue and was super bummed out. I hope that this isn't a stand alone, I feel that there is total potential in this book and I have faith. Give Logan some more meat, I feel the mom and Kim got more action in the book.

Sexual scenes were true, as to what teenagers do. It wasn't smutty, it was just about a girl and her feelings and how she felt. I also admired that she wasn't so obsessed with being a virgin, that she knew if it was going to happen, she wanted to be ready.

This was a great book I do recommend that you give this Indie author a chance, I see her getting big like Jamie Mcguire! This story had the great balance of emotion and power. I'm grateful that someone decides to share their creativity with us good or bad. I'm being Honest and for the price of this ebook is just right! now go and please spread the word of this book. PLEASE MAKE book 2 AND LONGER!!!

Safer Outside was a very quick and in many ways typical YA romance. Boy meets girl, the two dance around each other a bit, before girl gives in. What I really enjoyed about the story was Liz’s personality. For someone her age, Liz deals with a lot of crap. Not only does she get picked on for being the chubby girl at school, she also has a step-father that Liz knows is just waiting for his chance to do something awful.

Needless to say Liz’s home life sucks. Her stepfather has a job that is if one considers drug-dealing as a qualifying position. Even with some money coming in, the family relies on Liz to take care of them even if a necessity in their household is getting cigarettes for her mother.

Liz takes care of her younger half-siblings. In fact the youngest even calls her momma, clearly showing how much time Liz spends with them but she’ll do anything to help or protect them even dealing with her skeevy stepdad.

Having moved away a few years ago, Liz is ready to return to her old school with her old friends as she has shed a few pounds, taken on a new moniker and is ready to finish high-school with a bang. A few of the shifty girls try and cause problems for Liz but that’s mostly due to jealousy.

Logan wants Liz as soon as he sees her. Something about Liz calls to him even if they never met before. Liz is obviously super hesitant to start anything, heaven forbid Logan should actually find out about her home-life. But Logan doesn’t give up easily and slowly but surely he has his claws into Liz.

Now don’t get me wrong I like Logan but for some odd reason I was always suspicious of him. Like any minute he was going to turn around and laugh at Liz like some sick high school prank. I hope this is just me but I think it may be because we don’t really get an insight into who Logan is. I feel like I know Liz but when it comes to Logan there is a slight disconnect that leaves me weary. Not to mention how quickly he fell for her and vice-versa, insta-love is always suspicious to me but throw in a self-conscious girl with home problems and I think I was more worried than she was.

Overall I really enjoyed this story. It was sweet with just enough drama to keep things interesting. I was a little shocked by how quickly everything happened in the end, especially how everything wrapped up but I was still pleased nonetheless. I do wish there was more character development at least on Logan’s side but Liz made up for his personality quirks with her take charge attitude and devotion to family.

Home is the one place where you’re supposed to feel safe, but that isn’t true for Liz. Safe for her is anywhere outside of her home, and she would rather be anywhere else, but she feels an obligation to make sure her younger brother and sister stay safe. She has no choice but to go back.

Liz Martin wants to start over. After being away from her old school for two years (where she was previously known as “Beefy Beth”), she’s back with a new name, a new body, and a new determination to make the life she wants for herself. Rumors are flying about why she was really gone but her friends know the truth, that’s all that matters. At 15, she’s never had a boyfriend, but when Logan Cooper, the hottest senior in school, shows interest in her, she knows it would never work. He’s way out of her league, not to mention her drug-dealing perv of a step-dad, Jesse, would literally kill any guy she tried to be with, but a girl can dream, right?

Very few people know the real truth of Liz’s home life, the main one being her best friend since kindergarten, Kim. Kim’s family has tried and tried over the years to get Liz out of her home, but Liz can’t leave her siblings behind to fend for themselves. If Logan ever found out about her home life and where she lived, he’s sure to run away as fast as he can. No matter how many times he tries to reassure Liz, can she really trust him with her secrets? No one has ever made her feel special or loved, could Logan be the one to change that? When Logan finally learns the truth about the real Elizabeth Martin, will he stay or will he finally realize what she’s been saying all along, that she’s not worth it?

Safer Outside is an extremely mature, very dark, young adult novel and some people may find some of the situtions difficult to read about, but I loved it. I was very surprised that this was a debut novel from Kristina Renee, it seemed to me like she’s been writing for years. The author did a great job of developing the characters and making you feel their happiness, as well as their heartache. The main complaint I have is I wanted more! The ending felt a little bit rushed to me. There was sooo much packed into the last couple chapters, and everything happened so fast. Also, the characters were very mature for their age, I often forgot that Liz was only 15. With some of the stuff going on, I would’ve aged Liz a couple years, but all in all it was a solid read and I look forward to much more from this author.

When it's safer outside, where do you go?

Elizabeth "Liz" is excited for a fresh start at a new school. With only a hand full of people knowing "Beefy Beth" from middle school, she couldn't be more ready for the new place to escape to.

On her first day of school, Liz meets Logan. To her surprise, he thinks she's beautiful. With everything going on in Liz's life, she doesn't want to get close to him for fear of her home life putting Logan in jeopardy.

"She comes from trash and I wouldn't want you to get dirty."- Mandy

Having a mother who has lost herself a long time ago, two younger siblings who needs her to be their protector and an abusive step-father, who terrorizes them all at any chance he can. Liz finds different way's to escape her home life, because the outside is always safer than the inside.

"Your secret is safe with me. All of your secrets."- Logan

With things heating up with Liz and Logan, Liz fears he will get hurt. In turn she would rather lose her first love by breaking his heart, than by him running away in fear of her home life.

Can Liz let go of her fears, accept Logan is in her life to stay or will everything around her crumble? Will Liz be able to show Logan the real Elizabeth and can he accept it?

Safer Outside is a journey of friendship, heartache, love and loss. You will fall in love with these characters Kristian Renee gave us. Logan is just the perfect boy you would have wanted to date in high school. He has this sweet side and tough side. I just wanted to squeeze him! This story was having me flash back to the day's of my teenage life and bringing back old memories. For a debut novel, Kristina hit it out of the ball park!! She gives us everything we would want in a book and then she'll have you wanting and needing more. My heart broke for Liz. I wanted to be her protector and tell her it would all be okay. There's nothing better than reading a book that draws you in like this one. I can't wait for the second book in the series! I give Safer Outside 5 STARS!!!

4.5 rounded up to 5

Safer Outside is a heartbreaking story about a girl named Liz who never feels safe at home behind closed doors. Her stepfather, Jesse, beats her mother and threatens the kids, including Liz. Liz is afraid to date or to have any friend over to not show anyone what is actually going on in her home.

The story was good and it was well-written. I was able to connect to the characters and feel the emotion Liz was going through. The author did a wonderful job with realistic dialogue and character development. I knew the characters fairly well and their backgrounds. I enjoyed how she added in a little bit of Amanda's backstory, and why she's so mean.

I did feel that the relationship with Logan escalated too quickly and I didn't quite buy it at first. I thought he was going to end up being a total jackass that broke her heart, especially after he made a comment about her previously being 'thick'. However, as the story went on, the more I liked the guy.

Honestly, I thought that Liz was going to end up with Adam...but that couldn't happen for many reasons. That was mostly because of books I've read previously about the girl dating the popular hot guy that ended up hurting her, so she ended up with the cute boy she grew up with. However, this is not what happens in this story. So for me, it wasn't so predictable, which is great!

I enjoyed the friendship with Kim. While Kim is egotistical, she's pretty sweet and supportive. However, it's kind of overused where the plain girl is best friends with the hot girl-next-door. Thankfully, it didn't drive Kim crazy that Logan didn't so much as look at her, but at Liz instead.

Overall I enjoyed the story, and thought it handled the issues well. There are a few scenes of abuse and a traumatic ending. There is also a sex scene, so it may not be appropriate for some readers. But, the sex scene could easily be skipped if that's something that would make you uncomfortable, as the story is well worth the read.

3.5 sweet stars.

I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

This was a sweet little YA book with moderate advisory (so mid teens will be fine reading imo) - although there is a sex scene it was done tastefully. There was some bad language in places, in fitting with the storyline but nothing that most kids won't have heard in school.

Liz is a sweet teen. Once overweight, she has slimmed down and come back to her old school and rechristened herself from Beth to Liz to start afresh. Supported by her best friend Kim, she re-enters school and soon crosses paths with Logan. From the initial meeting, you know something is going to happen and it progresses sweetly. It is sometimes a bit too sappy with the language at times for me, but i'm an old cynical nearly 40 year old so maybe that will appeal to the teens and that heady rush of young love. The back story revolves around Liz's family and what she has to deal with in her home life.

There were no surprises for me in this book. You could pretty much map out the way that this was going, but just because this was formulaic, doesn't mean it wasn't an enjoyable little read. I say little, because I was happily reading along and then realised I was at 90% and the end was near, and I really hadn't expected that. The author could have made it a bit longer, there was opportunities to add to the story, ie after the formal, it would have been nice to read about Liz & Logan the following morning.

There are some really nice side characters in the story and its safe to say the author has left it open for you to hear more of their stories, so expect to read more about them in the future. Hopefully all of those books will come with a nice dose of Liz, Logan and the others as well.

Would I read more from this author in the future - yes I would but I hope her next book in longer so we can spend more time in her world.

**I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review**

Let me start by saying that when I read the description of this book, for a second, I thought it was going to be sort of juvenile (31 yr. old here). But decided to give it a shot anyway. The story captivated me from the start. I started reading it last night and finished 20 minutes ago. It wasn't as long as I would have liked it to be but it was a wonderful story nonetheless, hence why I finished it so fast. It was a beautiful teenage romance that brought out the younger version of me and placed me back in high school. The characters were great and their dialogue was perfect. Liz/Beth is a sweet girl that has a terrible life at home. Wanting to live a normal teenage life she finds ways to escape her reality for while and then prepares herself to face the challenges when she goes back home over and over again. Struggling between being a normal teenager and mothering to her siblings has taught her to mature a little faster then the rest. But she hasn't allowed the harshness of her life to change her. Logan is a dream. He is handsome, dominant and has a huge heart. Being a rich boy doesn't make him egotistical nor materialistic. Exactly the type of boy Liz needs in her life. From the moment he sets his eyes on her, he is determined to go to hell and back for her no matter what. He is exactly the support system she needs and honestly the best boyfriend she could have ever found. Once they are together, nothing can separate them. Not even the bastard she has for a step father. They bring out the best in each other and soon the positive energy starts to rub off on those around them. This is a great story that left me wanting PART 2.I think the author did a great job and she should definitely keep writing. Soooo Kristina, get to working so we can continue to get lost in your stories.

Who hasn't wanted to reinvent themselves and start fresh? That's what Liz does when she switches to a new high school full of her old classmates. She changed her hair, lost some weight, and even changed her name. She's determined to live the life she wants, although it turns out that changing yourself can't change those around you. Changing her hair didn't get her mom to leave her abusive step-dad, nor did it change the fact that she plays a big part in supporting her family at the young age of 15. School is her escape though and when she meets Logan, she isn't sure where he will fit in but she likes the way he feels. He feels safe, something that she hasn't felt in a long time. What happens when the worlds collide and everything falls apart?

This book had most of what I want from a young adult contemporary novel. It was definitely dark but the author did a good job with the sensitive material. I also really liked the main character-she was relatable and reminds me of myself when I was 15-awkward and wishing to start fresh.
The only thing I thought that this novel lacked was there wasn't a lot of relationship building between Logan and Liz. I felt that I hardly knew Logan as a reader and didn't get a chance to fan-girl over him. I still liked them together a lot, I just wish there was more.
I think this author has a ton of promise and I look forward to reading more from her in the future.
I think this book would be good for teens/young adults 16 and up who would enjoy a darker spin on contemporary YA romance.
*I received this book from the author to review but that did not influence my review. This post reflects my own thoughts/opinions towards this book.*

I was gifted this book from the author in exchange for my honest review.

This is the first book I have read from Kristina Renee but I can honestly say it won't be the last.

Liz is a fifteen year old sophomore in a high school outside of her hometown. You see Liz's mother and step father moved out of the school district two years prior when she was known as "beefy Beth" Liz attended school in the new area but she wasn't happy there, she wanted to go to school with her friend Kim like she use to, Liz lost weight and decided to change her nickname from Beth to Liz so she could start fresh there. Liz family life isn't good, there's domestic violence in the house as well as her stepfather being a drug dealer. She keeps that part of her life tucked away from everyone except her BFF Kim. With the start of the new school year Liz spends as much time away from her home as she can, she practically lives at Kim's house which makes sense because she is using their address as her own so she can attend the same high school.
Logan meets Liz and its totally head over heels for her even though at first she tries to push him away. Logan is a senior at the high school and didn't know Liz from her "Beth" days.
Logan and Liz do start dating but she keeps a big chunk of her life hidden from him.
I was immediately pulled into the story and when I read the parts that showed the violence in the house I wanted to gut her stepfather and smack her mom around a little too for staying with the jerk...I know violence doesn't solve anything but man I was pissed! That's how well written it was you felt as if you were right there witnessing it.
I will be recommending this book to friend and family.

Obsessed much!

I loved this book from beginning to end. I didn't want to put it down. From page one till the end, I was captivated. The character Liz caught my attention from the start, with all of the things she has to endure.

Liz used to be the "fat" girl in school. she has decided she is going to turn a new leaf. After dropping the extra pounds and changing from one slang term of her name to another. (Form Beth to Liz) She returns to the high school her best friend goes to.

Here is where she meets Logan. From the first time he sees her, he is hooked. There is that spark that ignites every time they set eyes on each other. (I couldn't agree more! Logan is in the total yum factor!) However, he did seem to come on a little strong. But since it was reciprocated between them it doesn't have that creep factor. Its more of that, Oh-My-Goodness-I-Want-To-Eat-Him-Alive factor.

They have to keep their relationship a secret from her family, for reasons Liz refuses to tell Logan. And sometimes for good reasons. Liz's mom is almost non existent in her life, to where she has to take care of her younger siblings. Hiding her relationship from her family, especially from her step father, who thinks he owns her, in more than one way, is an absolute must if she wants to survive high school in one piece.

I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who likes young adult books. Total spot on! The only people I wouldn't recommend to, are people who are working, moving from one house to another, or people who have to unpack said house. Because that is EVERTHING I had to do in the middle of reading this book, and booooy did it drive me nuts having to put it down and start again later.;)

Safer Outside has a great idea that was laid out very well in print. Liz's stepdad Jessie was an easy figure to loathe, just as her mom was an easy one to classify as pitiful. Liz's desire to remake herself after her weight loss made perfect sense. Especially in such a bleak situation, I could absolutely see how it would be imperative for Liz to try and escape some of her past history.

I was most interested in the chapters about Liz's family life. Those are very real situations for many people, and I feel like the author did a great job of capturing the fear and pressure someone feels in that situation.

What I really couldn't wrap my head around was the love story between Logan and Liz. It felt very....convenient. This guy, who is conveniently a senior, conveniently latches onto Liz the first day. She finds out he's conveniently rich, and that he conveniently is willing to wait for her to be ready for sex, and there's conveniently no real conflict between the two.

It was just too smooth. With my first real boyfriend, it took me a month before I could even consider saying, "I love you," and I sure as hell noticed when I went from zero physical interaction to extreme PDA. Liz didn't even bat an eye to it, she acted like everything came naturally. Like, I've NEVER met anyone who bit a lip while making out the first time. No one has the balls to do that. And trust me, my friends and I talked about this a lot back then. No one goes from no physical contact whatsoever to necking and lip biting and hickey sucking. I would have liked a little more transition period, because that didn't hold up for me the same way the family chapters did.

Honestly though, I did enjoy the book. It's a quick one with some heavy stuff, for sure.

I was given this book for an honest review in return.

****FOUR STARS FOR SAFER OUTSIDE****

Elizabeth formerly known as Beth, now going by Liz heads back transfers to a school where old classmates attend. Old classmates who used to call her Beefy Beth. After losing a great deal of weight she wants a fresh start as Liz.

First week of school Liz finds that a senior named Logan is interested in her. She finds herself falling quickly for Logan's sweet talk, handsome looks, and gentle touch. But she is hiding very deep secrets of her home life. Not wanting her step-dad to find out about their relationship Liz fights with herself to end things but can't seem to let go.

This book is an emotional read that keeps you on your seat. What will happen at home to Liz, her mother and siblings? Will Logan find out about the real secrets Liz is hiding and will he be able to look past the truth? And when will Liz's step-dad explode?

I found myself not wanting to stop reading this. First time author Kristina Renee should be very proud of her work. I really enjoyed it and look forward to reading more. I fell in love with Logan. When can I meet my own Logan? (Says the married woman haha!)

Only advice for author Kristina Renee is to maybe tone down the sex scenes. After all we are reading about minors. Though most of us did the things described in the book it still seems odd to be in the mindset of a teenage girl and reading about her sexual relationship as a grown woman.

All in all this book was great. Again Kristina you should be really proud of yourself! I would gladly read and review for you in the future!

I really enjoyed this book however there were a few things that made me deduct a star. One of the biggest things that made me deduct a star was the fact that the novel is described as a YA novel, the age of the two leads, 15 and 17, support this however, and for me as a mum, a huge however, was that the girl, Liz, at 15, gave away her virginity.

There are also some other issues that are raised that although YA would be aware of them, may not be something that should be so readily highlighted. The situation I am talking about is the one with Liz's step-father although I will not go into too much detail in order to not ruin the plot. Needless to say there is domestic abuse amongst other things.

Despite this I really enjoyed the book, Logan, despite being only 17, had all the early signs of a dominant alpha male, and a rich one at that, coming through!! A dominant male that is determined to keep his girl safe.

Liz hides the situation at home and only highlights that her step-father would be angry at her having a boyfriend. Liz's best-friend Kim knows of her situation as do her parents and, to a degree, she lives at their house a majority of the time. She goes home to be their to support her half brother and sister. In fact her sister calls her Mama.

The relationship between Logan and Liz is a sweet one and I hope that we get to find out more of where their relationship is heading. This would have been a 5 star review had the leads each been a couple of years older and the book more romance than YA. However for a debut novel it is a great start.

Please note I was given an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This book was given to me earlier as an ARC in exchange for an honest review * Does NOT sway my rating or opinion on this book *

I love a good young love romance! Liz and Logan made a fine young couple. This book contained a well thought story plot, characters that were easy to understand, personal struggle topics, and just enough drama. I absolutely loved this book!

Liz is returning to her original hometown high school after being away for a few years. She has lost all of her baby weight and changes her name from Beth (Elizabeth) to Liz. She is excited about being back with her best friend Kim too.

Enter Logan, the hotty, who has an strong interest in her. He comes from an affluent family, drives a nice vehicle, and has eyes only for her.

However, Liz's home life, the one she rarely returns to only to check on her younger siblings, isn't the best with her stepfather who is violent, abusive, back and forth from being in jail, the list goes on. Liz has to try and hide her relationship from her stepfather so he doesn't freak. But he finds out anyway.

When Liz has enough, and her step father takes things too far, Liz has to defend herself against him. With him being out of the picture, her mother seems to wake up from a slumber, and life gets just a little better. Logan is still by her side, when his father offers Liz's mom a great job opportunity.

Again, this book was a young adult novel, but an incredible one at that! Can't wait to see if the author puts out any more books!

I was provided an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

In "Safer Outside", we meet Elizabeth Martin who has just come back to her old school after attending a different school for a few years. In the time that she spent away, she lost weight and changed her image - she's now Liz Martin. On her first day back at school, she meets Logan Cooper. He's a Senior and thought to be the hottest boy at the school. Even though he takes an interest in her, she tries to push him away. She wants to keep him as far away from her home life as possible for fear of him being hurt. Liz doesn't have the greatest home life and she spends most of her time with her best friend Kim. Even though she tries to keep pushing Logan away, it seems that he has found his way into her life.

This was a delicate book that was very well written. I enjoyed reading this book and I am sad that it ended. I would have liked to read so much more about Logan and Liz and even Liz's family. I felt like more information could have been included after the incident that changed everything towards the end. It just seemed life went from being messed up to being perfect. I understand why that happened but I just wanted more about the after the fact happenings. I'm wondering if maybe there are going to be more books to follow and that's why things were left the way that they were. But, all in all, it was a really good book that I was thrilled to read.

*** I was given an ARC of this book by the author for an honest review ***

Wow... I literally just finished this book and am sitting here a little stunned by how much I liked it.

It's the first Book in the "Outside" series and when the others come out I will get them to read. So onto THIS book.

Safer Outside is about a teenager returning to her old school district after two years away. While insecure about her looks (what teen girl isn't), she isn't shy about her thoughts or her feelings about her creepy step-father, her mom, her friends, and her boyfriend - Logan.

I had a feeling once introduced to the creepy step-father about where the book was headed and I admit, I didn't want to go there, but I wanted to see just how strong Liz had grown over the course of the book. I wanted to see just how she would handle herself. She's a doting big sister when she's home despite the stress of the situation time and time again.

And the alpha-maturity that Logan shows kind of made me forget that he's just a senior in high school.

Liz and Logan's circle of friends are pretty welcoming people that while not knowing their back histories, you want to welcome too just because of how their interaction is with each other.

If Book 2 is a follow up or continuation of Liz and Logan or any of their friends, I can't wait to see what happens next.

All in all I think that as a first book, Kristina Renee did a pretty good job. She pulled me in and I didn't put the book down.

I got this ARC for an honest review.

Where to start? Liz is a sophomore in high school who transferred back to where all her friends are after leaving the area two years prior. She wanted to revamp her look. She gave herself a new nickname (luckily the name Elizabeth has many different variations -thanks mom). She lost weight and grew out her hair. Yup that would essentially mean a whole new look but unfortunately for her just because she may look different on the outside doesn't mean the same problems she always had don't exist.

On Liz's first day of school she meets the sexy, hot senior Logan and is taken back by how he is with her. Never having a guy pursue her she is in uncharted territories. Liz decides to let him in on her terms and soon falls in love with him. The entire time her life at home is falling apart. Her stepfather is making her and her families life a living hell.

What happens when one life collides with another life? I will say it is not all hearts and flowers or unicorns and rainbows.

I really enjoyed reading this story. I am actually a little sad though, because I didn't want it to end. When I got to the end I was "WHAT?!?! I am finished" This is a story I would recommend for someone to read. I really like the innocence Liz had and still has even though she has a lot of responsibilities at home. Logan, if I could wrap him up I would and deliver him to my daughter. That is the kind of boyfriend I want my daughter to have.

I'd like to thank the author Ms. Kristina Renee for this book in exchange for a review. This is her first novel and i'd say that she's done an amazing job. I'm not really into young adult and was kinda hesitant at first since the protagonists are only 17 & 15 years old, and that this maybe suited to my daughter who's much closer to their ages. But after reading the blurb i got interested right away and it has a mature content and not that teeny story i expect from that age range.
Safer Outside is about Logan and Elizabeth/Liz who are both in high school. Liz had a hard life that was not supposed to be dealt with by a 15year old kid. Inspite her young age, she exudes a strong personality that finds a way out of her current "shitty" situation. I can't imagine the life she was facing. She is supposed to be loved, cared and protected. And that happened when she met Logan. Right away he sees right through Liz's defenses and barreled himself through. Who can resist Logan's sweet charm & romantic moves? Most especially, he loves everything about Liz amidst the heavy baggage and drama.
Ms. Renee's writing style is impeccable. I like how she is able to draw my emotions that kept me up late at night. I'm so glad i get to read her work and i look forward to her future books. Congratulations Ms. Renee!

I was given a free copy of this in exchange for an honest review.

I read this not knowing what to expect, i really enjoyed it! it is obvious that the writer took time and put thought in to the story line. The main characters: Beth and Logan are implemented in to the story just right, so that you understand and connect with them, a very good character balance!
I love Logan, hes the typical good looking boy with money! the guy that all the girls chase, but hes just so sweet! Its refreshing to read a character that treats his girl with respect and isnt afraid to show her real love.
Liz found it hard at first to take the respect and being treat right this is because She wasn't used to that sort of 'niceness' in her home, eventually she learned to accept the difference and clung to it.
Liz/Beth is a complex character dealing with the typical teenage issues such as weight, friends etc and then has a terrible home life, to which she wants to escape.
This book is full of emotion and I found it hard to put down!
I gave it 4.5 stars; It would have been nice to have an epilogue to complete the story and give the reader an incite as to how thins panned out a few months.years down the line, the story could have been a little bit longer, then I would have given it 5 stars! I look forward to more reading from this author! Well done :)

** I received a free copy in exchange for an honest review **

I don't usually read young adult books because I find them to be for the most part too juvenile for me but after reading Safer Outside, I may have been persuaded otherwise!
This is a sad and yet hopeful book to read...difficult because it deals with abuse (both physical and emotional) and a 15 year old girl as she attempts to have a better life for herself, her mother and younger siblings.
I could really relate to Beth/Liz and her struggle to get past where she came from and her attempt to fit in with all the mean girls who had wealth and pretty looks. A lot of teens suffer from low self esteem and weight problems and would give anything to look right, dress in the latest fashions and land the cutest boy in school.
This story is filled with a fair amount of teenage angst, some violent drama and scenes of sexuality and realistic first encounters better suited to older teenage readers. It was an enjoyable at times, but emotionally difficult read as it hit a little too close to reality for me!

****4**** sweet but salty coming of age stars =)

I wasn't sure If a 15 yr old girl / 17 yr old boy story line was the something I needed to review. I'm not to big on the "high school" scene. But if the main characters are mature and act somewhat older than their age.. Then it could be an enjoyable read. In this case, I forgot that Liz was just 15.

Although, I was given this book to review prior to its release date. I am just now having or should I say had a chance to read it. I read this book in what a day. It is well written, character were well developed without going overboard, and just the right amount of intensity.
The only problem I had, was around 70 to 75% everything started to move to fast. At 75% I was like there must be another book coming out b/c there is just to much intensity for it to wrap up so fast. But it was wrapped up. She closed things nicely but there seems to be some unresolved issues among other characters. So who knows, she may write about them.. But whatever Ms. Kristina decides please include Logan and Liz in the story :)

Overall, a very light easy read that keeps you wanting to know what happens next.
