I am a reader of mystery, suspense, thrillers, action/adventure and some paranormal. YA/Paranormal/Romance is not something I would put on my must read list. I chose to read this, however because of the paranormal element in the story. With that said, here is what I found:

This story is a high energy, fast paced with very likeable characters, a story of family, love, loss, hope and friendship.

Jazzy is a young girl trying to find her way through a very devastating time in her life. It's not an easy transition from teenager to young adult in the normal sense. Let alone in the paranormal world she finds herself in. Thankfully she has her brother Henry, of which the two of them are very close. They have a bond that is tight, solid and most times crazy.

Her brother makes quick friends with 3 guys, who most of the time are seriously crazy. Enter Barry, Flynn and Tony. When these guys are around there is no such thing as normal, Especially Barry. He is hilarious! And they come to be like brothers to Jazzy as well as protectors.

Then comes Seth, her soul mate. He introduces a whole new world to Jazzy, that includes opening up and letting people in, a love that is unconditional and a whole new family of which have paranormal abilities. Seth and Skeeter become her first friends and as Jazzy finds out who and what some of the people around her really are it blows her mind. But with Seth she finds her balance and makes a True Connection.

Jazzy is a strong, loving, caring young woman who doesn't quit just because things are tough. She works through them in her own unique way. She has a very large group of paranormal protectors that are willing to keep her from harm. Especially when she makes a not so nice Devuxen mad at her. She must then, with the help of family and these new friends find a way to save her family and her soul.

I have to say True Connection left me feeling tired, but in a good way. The energy that these characters put off is amazing. And there was always something around the corner. Just when you think you can take a breather, guess what, NO you can't.

True Connection is sad, happy, hilariously funny, warm and filled with action and energy story that will keep you turning pages till the end.

When I started this book, even after reading what it was about, I was not as prepared for this awesome book as I first thought!!
Jazzy has experienced some very heart-wrenching tragedy in the last year and little does she know her world is not done being shaken up. Jazzy meets Seth and knows right away he is special to her. How she can become so attached so quickly to someone she just met, she does not understand. That is until Seth drops a big bomb on her, she is his soul-mate and he is not human.
Unfortunately, she also learns there are others out there that are not human also. She soon realizes not all of these immortals and creatures have good intentions. She thought at times she was paranoid but finds out she has Defuxen, soul suckers, after her.
Jazzy cannot stand the thought of her friends and family losing her or her losing any of them, but this is the threat the defuxen use against her. When her family become a pawn in the defuxen's game to get to her, what will there be left for her to do? Will everyone that is in this fight with her make it out unscathed? Will she get her happy ending or will the defuxen win?
True Connection is written from Jazzy's point of view. This works out amazingly as we get to see exactly how the defuxen and her soulmate affect her. With the many mind games played by the defuxen and her connection with Seth, Jazzy's struggles, emotions, and other actions are really put on display. The action in this book is so palpable that I feel stuck in a whirlwind and I do not want to come out. Rachel Walter has done such an amazing job, I cannot wait to read future books by her especially in her Soul Mate series!!

3.5 Jazzy stars!Get it? Jazzy... Lol...

PLOT: I'm a sucker for the whole Soul Mates thing. I mean who wouldn't want something like that in their life? A person that's been created just for you. Jazzy and Seth I think work really well together. They seem to complement one another like no other. Like many heroines in paranormal/supernatural settings, Jazzy is a tough chick. She wants to prove to herself and those around her that she can take care of herself. And she does a really good job. BUT what I really enjoyed about this book was the supernatural beings and their super powers. Like the shadows, aka Devuxen, that keep following Jazzy in school halls or the night terrors that are too real to be dreams. We have werewovles, witches, and Amaranthines.

Over all this is a new kinda paranormal that steps out of boundary from the norm!

CHARACTERS: OMG GUYS, you have to meet BARRY!!!! BARRY is my utmost fav, character in this book. Well him and Skeeter. If Rachel decides to write their stories, I'd be on those like peanut on the butter, OR something like that. Because THEY are uber funny. <3 these characters. I know that Skeeter is going to end up Henry, who is Jazzy's twin brother. But Barry... o, i hope he gets some more more uptight! That'd be so much fun!!!!!!

Over all: This story was good, it had great potential and the action scenes were something to brag about. I say, you should definitely give it a go and give this book and this new author a chance!

I give True Connections by Rachel Walter 5 stars!!
I only wished I could give the author more stars!! This is such a magical and wonderful read I was so sad to get to the ending!! I really loved this story. I connected with all of the characters! This is a really great book for the paranormal readers. This author is very talented indeed, she captivated me and I didn’t want to put this book down at all. Jazzy’s and Seth’s story just wow. I was so happy to see this was different than most paranormals I have read, its as good as Tiger’s Curse. I really want more of this story, I am so addicted to all of the emotion , action, twists and turns. It was a roller coaster ride all through out the story. I never knew what was coming up and it was never one that I could have seen coming, very unpredictable. I can’t wait to read more from this author its so exiting!!

*I received an ARC in exchange for my honest review.*

Upon finding out that this was a paranormal Young Adult novel without a love triangle, I was definitely interested. Love triangles aren't something I normally like as a reader, and it keeps me away from a lot of Young Adult. This book promised a soulmate, thereby meaning a relationship with only one guy. It also promised supernatural things and immortals, and of course I love those. When I read this story, I found an interesting tale about family, friends, and love of all kinds.

The main character was Jazzy. I liked her, because she was sassy, and did her best to not let people talk down to her. Although she was rebellious, she was smart, and I loved how she didn't just run off on her own to save the day when she thought she was right, like so many book heroines do. Jazzy was also a great music lover, and I found that that helped me to relate to her. I loved the fact that she painted, and had dreams and goals. All of this combined into an interesting character, whom I didn't mind following throughout this story.

Her love interest was Seth. I liked him, because he was sweet, and knew how to help Jazzy. he was there for her whenever Jazzy needed him, and I loved how supportive of her he always was. However, I didn't feel like we really got to know him. Also, their relationship progressed from like to love fairly quickly. I understand that they were soul mates and their love wasn't instantaneous since they acknowledged that they didn't really know each other, but it didn't take long for both of them to say they loved one another. Also, Jazzy freaked out at random times over how they'd be together forever, and I thought that was weird, considering the depths of their feelings. Other than that, I really liked these two being together, and I definitely think they helped each other be the best people they could be.

This story had a lot of side characters, and sometimes it was hard to remember who was who. The most important ones were very memorable, though. There was Jazzy's brother Henry, whom I liked because I could definitely see how much he cared for her. But then, there were lots of times when I thought he was way too overprotective. There was one instance in the novel where someone mentioned Henry letting Jazzy date, and that didn't sit well with me. How was it fair that he was so overprotective of Jazzy, but he hid his dating from her? This was the case with Henry's friend Barry, as well. Even though I liked him for his serious and playful side, I also thought he was way too overprotective of Jazzy, even if he did come to see her as a sister. Then, there was Jazzy's best friend Skeeter. I thought she was a good friend, but later on in the story, she overreacts to some things, and it was a bit ridiculous.

With all that said, I thought the plot was interesting. I really liked all the supernatural elements woven into the book, and thought that they were done really well. Jazzy met Seth and became his soulmate, thereby finding out that some supernaturals were real. Then, she unknowingly angered one of them, and began to be under attack. Therefore, this book was all about Jazzy meting and falling in love with Seth, and exploring their relationship while being protected and learning to defend herself from her attacker. I found it an interesting read, and I definitely got more into it the closer the ending came, since that's where a lot of the action scenes were.

Overall, I did like this book. It was an interesting paranormal Young Adult, with some intriguing characters. My problems with this book had to do with some of the characterization, and a couple things that happened in the story like the swiftness with which Seth and Jazzy announced their love for one another. I also had a problem with how quickly Jazzy's mom's situation changed, but to say too much about that would be a spoiler. There was also an odd POV switch at the very end, but I think that that was to help introduce the next book. Either way, I still did enjoy reading it, and finished fairly quickly. Anyone who likes paranormal YA should at least give it a chance, if only to follow the functional relationship between Seth and Jazzy, but I loved the themes of family sticking together, and doing whatever you can for your friends and loved ones.

True Connection is hard for me to review because I’m too afraid to give too much away and no one likes someone who spoils the book. Before True Connection was completely finished, I had the pleasure of chatting with Rachel beforehand. We would share snippets and help each other out however we could. Most of the time it was moral support. So when Rachel asked, or maybe it was more of me saying I want to beta True Connection, I absolutely fell in love with this story.

Jazzy’s character is real. She can be the girl standing next to you in line or sitting behind you in a movie theater. That’s what one of the many things I loved about Rachel’s book. Her characters are so real that you’ll find yourself looking for them. Back to Jazzy. Jazzy and her brother Henry have to move in with their uncle after an unfortunate accident. Doesn’t seem that bad right? Well it is when the new school you’ll be attending is the rivals to your old school. She just wants to lay low and graduate. Nothing’s that easy. Jazzy is gaining the attention from the star-quarterback, Derik. I don’t know about y’all but I never really cared for the attitude of the popular crowd. Now don’t get me wrong not all of them have that attitude were they think they are better than everyone, but the ones that did, yea don’t care! So Derik is a douche. You’ll have to figure out why though!

It doesn’t stop there though. Then she starts hearing something following her in the halls. What is it, a ghost maybe? Talk about a first day of school! But it gets better because a boy makes an appearance. An incredibly hot boy, but I’ll use Jazzy’s words

“The kind of guy that makes your eyes bug out, your mouth water, your heart beat of your chest, and your brain turn to mush.”

Yup, let me introduce you to Seth. I absolutely adore Seth. Seriously, he’s the boy you dream about. He’s sweet, charming, sexy as all hell, but he’s also protective, strong, and deadly. He’s not like the other boys you read about. He’s not a bad boy, well maybe he is, but not when it comes to Jazzy. You can feel their chemistry coming off the pages. You can feel Seth’s infatuation with her immediately but you can also tell that there’s something different about him too. Then there’s Skeeter! OMG love love love her. Seriously the girl is a riot and she says exactly what she’s feeling. She doesn’t hold back. Skeeter and Seth are close and take to Jazzy immediately. Why you ask? Well that’s another thing you’re going to have to read for yourself.

Now lets go back and talk about Henry a little. I love Henry. He’s super protective of Jazzy and just an all-around amazing brother. He actually reminds me of my older brother. Jazzy and Henry have a unique bond, some might think its crazy and might be threatened by it, but I absolutely love it. It works for them. They rely on each other like family should. But when Seth comes into the picture, it starts to strain their relationship. Henry meets a group of guys that are like massive. I love each and every one of them, but have to say Barry is hilarious. He makes life so interesting and he picks on Jazzy. Some might misconstrue the relationship between him and Jazzy for something more. It’s totally nothing more than a friendship, a brother-sister type love.

But nothing in life is easy right? Everyone has their own secrets. The thing is when those secrets are out in the open will everything be ok? When Jazzy’s life is threatened can a compromise be made between two groups to protect her? True Connection pushes the bar on paranormal. Rachel Walter creates a world within a world that you can completely immerse yourself in and get lost to the point of no return. A new take on soul mates that will leave you wanting more. And when the big climax takes place, talk about some serious action coming from all sides, not to mention some interesting new characters! If you haven’t picked this book up yet, you definitely need to get on that. So go grab it now!

Review:
*I received an eARC of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.
I so enjoyed this book. It had me captured and enthralled within the first 5%. I thought it was sweet, funny, and thoroughly captured young adult relationships - including friendship, family, and love. I loved Jazzy. She was the kind of girl I would love to be friends with. She's sweet, funny, and compassionate. Jazzy and her family suffer quite a tragedy and it tears a hole into their little universe. Upon moving in with their Uncle and to their rival school, Jazzy and her brother, Henry, have to make new friends and deal with all that they loss. On their first day Jazzy meets Skeeter, and quirky but friendly girl in her art class, and Seth, a quiet, gorgeous, and mysterious classmate. Both of whom I'll get to in a minute but first I want to talk about Jazzy and Henry, plus the three giants.

Jazzy has a very close relationship with her brother, Henry. At first I was worried it was going to get creepy but it didn't, they're relationship is so refreshing and sweet. It's nice to see siblings in a novel that actually get along and appreciate each other. Furthermore, I just love Henry, he's so sweet and good to the people he loves. However, he has quite the protective streak. I found it hilarious when he introduces the three "giants" (Flynn, Barry, and Tony) to Jazzy and the four of them begin harping on Jazzy about her friendship with Seth. Between the four of them I don't know how Jazzy doesn't literally pull her hair out. Despite their over-protectiveness, they're a bunch of goofballs. I loved the comedic relief they offered the story.

Onto Seth...he was a doll. He was kind and caring and just a total sweetheart. Which warrants a pause and wild applause for Rachel for writing such a sweet guy. I applaud the fact that she took a leap and wrote a nice guy! He wasn't a big jerk like a lot of male MC's are in YA these days. I loved Seth. He was nice but he wasn't boring and he treated Jazzy and her family with the utmost respect. He also says and does some of the most romantic things, ever. I found myself swooning over him on page after page.

My favorite part about this entire book was the paranormal aspect. The story-line and characters were unique and I had a blast trying to figure things out. Jazzy's revelations of the creatures surrounding her and of her stalker had me intrigued from beginning to end. The plot was very engaging and I found myself unable to put the book down. Plus, I loved Jazzy and Henry's friendships with Skeeter and the "giants". I always love stories that include friendships, especially ones with such strong characters. I loved Skeeter, she was hilarious and I cannot wait to see what crazy things she's going to say and do in book 2.

This was a strong series debut and I cannot wait to see what happens in book 2!

Two months, four days and twelve hours ago, my life was perfect, whole. But now? Now it's shattered and missing some important pieces.

Jazzy Williams and her older brother Henry have just moved in with their uncle. Both dealing with the grief following the death of their father and sister and the absence of their mother who is receiving some treatment for the state of her mental health. As well as their Uncle, they have each other to lean on.

Starting a new school is always hard, but Jazzy quickly becomes friends with the bubbly Skeeter from her art class and also catches the attention of the gorgeous Seth. Jazzy and Seth have an undeniable connection but there's much more to Seth than what Jazzy first sees. How will Jazzy react when he tells her that he's not exactly human? But it's when she turns down the attentions of classmate Derik that things really start to heat up. Derik's not willing to take no for an answer!! And he will go to great lengths to get what he wants.

I have to say that when I started reading True Connection I felt a bit overloaded with characters. There were lots to get to know. And as the story went on it seemed that almost all of the characters were not human. But once I wrapped my head around who they all were and where they all fit into the story i enjoyed it that much more. Although there does continue to be a whole host of characters that we are introduced to as the story develops.

Jazzy is a strong leading character. The grief that she carries around weighs heavily on her. But she grabs onto the good in her life and doesn't let the bad get her down for too long. She has a wicked sense of humour. Even when times are tense she always manages to share a laugh with someone. And her caring nature really shone through. Jazzy and her brother Henry had a really strong and close relationship. They were not your typical brother and sister. Their bond seemed to transcend the norm. I think when you have dealt with the things that they have it can only bring you that much closer together.

The feel of his love washes through me. My eyes close lazily with the caress on my mind. I see myself through his eyes, and feel his love, his joy, and contentment.

As for the romance between Jazzy and Seth... Seth was all in almost from the get go. He knew exactly how he felt and made it very clear to Jazzy through his words and his actions. He was incredibly protective of Jazzy and his love for her was clear to see. While Jazzy is clearly smitten with Seth and comes to rely on his strength and support it takes her a little while longer to wrap her head around her feelings. But the times that they spent together were filled with loving moments.

The other character that I really enjoyed getting to know was Barry. He starts out as Henrys friend but he is such a protector of Jazzy. I loved the way that they played off each other.

True Connection turned out to be a solid and enjoyable read. The action scenes really stood out for me and the loving bond between Jazzy and Seth was at times beautiful. A great start to the series.

3.5/5 Stars!!

When I opened True Connection I was excited to see what Rachel had written. She was stressing over it and I knew it had to be good. I had been hearing about all these characters for a long time. Let me say this now, I love paranormal books and Rachel Walter is on POINT with this one! Most all are the same either wolves or vampires. Rachel brings more to the table with her own. I don't want to explain what Seth is you must read for yourself.
Jazzy and her brother Henry have to start a new school because they have had to move to their uncles house. Their Dad and sister died in an accident and their mom needed to be in a home because she wasn't dealing with it too well. Starting a new school is hard, but Henry seems to make some great friends with some guys and Jazzy meets a girl named Skeeter. I LOVE HER! But then a guy notices her. Seth. Wow he sounds amazing. Seth gets to know Jazzy and something strange happens........ She can her his thoughts in her mind! Now this is something I LOVE! You can only hear the thoughts of your soul mate in this story! LOVE IT! Wouldn't that be awesome in real life? Not the thoughts of others but the ONE you are supposed to be with! Ok I digress. Henry's friends all seem protective of Jazzy and are a bit gruff about Seth. Why is that? Hmmm you'll have to see. But the one who sticks out the most is my FAVORITE! Barry! Ya you would think I would be all swoony over Seth, but no. Don't get me wrong he sounds AMAZING and cute and hot and all take charge and caring and protecting Jazzy, but Barry something about him just draws you. Ya maybe he is crude a little and rough around the edges, but I find that funny!
When things start happening and Jazzy becomes unsafe, Barry is sent to help protect her family. Why you ask? Well Barry and his family are special protectors, you will learn how. And this has special bearings on Henry. A funny moment is when Barry gets stuck in the sleeper sofa. I think I laughed for like 5 minutes.
There is a danger to Jazzy through dreams and in person, so Seth and Barry and Henry have a job of protecting her. There is so much in this that my mind was blow away with the details that Rachel creates.
IF I keep going I will give you way to much. All I must say is Get this..... .READ IT and love the soul mate connection of Jazzy and Seth. And Fall in love with the many characters Rachel has created. You might have a different favorite than me. I am so proud of Rachel. This is a book I will read over and over and recommend to my friends. Heck I might even buy a few this book. I will say this is a awesome book to start a series. I can't wait for book 2 and ever for Barry's book! (ya I know I like him a little too much)

I discovered this book months ago just after it's cover had been released and I was instantly intrigued by it! The cover was stunning and I really wanted to read the story behind it! Overall I loved this book! There were several points in it that confused me though! I found it hard to sometimes tell who was talking and then the overall plot had so much in it, but it was all amazing and progressed very well! The plot was unique! It had different supernatural creatures in it and I can say that I wasn't really expecting so many, but there were a few in there that I hadn't read about in a book before so it was interesting! The plot was a great pace and it had me hooked! The characters were also written amazingly! Jazzy was the main character and I really enjoyed her telling the story! There were several points in the book where she kind of annoyed me, but overall I really liked her! She was a strong character and I adored her relationship with Seth as well! Seth was the soul mate of Jazzy and I loved how protective he was of her! He was hot and I could tell that he really loved Jazzy! What I loved about Jazzy and Seth's relationship was that their relationship built up over time and it wasn't so sudden! It built up and they weren't meeting on one page and then kissing on the other! They were a cute couple and I'm glad their relationship went this way! At some points in the book I did think that maybe a love triangle was going to come up, but it didn't really and I was quite happy with this as Jazzy and Seth were so good together! I enjoyed that one scene of this book was told from Jazzy's brother, Henry's point of view as he went through some major changes in this book and it was interesting to see his reaction to these changes! There were so many other characters in this book that sometimes I found it hard to remember all of them! I had to go back some chapters to remember who they were and what their part was in the story was! All of the characters were amazing though and most of them were really funny! They all added so much to the story as well! I will definitely continue reading this series as I really enjoyed this book and I'm looking forward to seeing how the plot progresses in the next book! As I said the cover is stunning! It's actually what made me want to read this book as it drew me in and it's so pretty! Big thank you to Rachel for an ARC of True Connection and to Crazy Girl Blog Tours for having me on the Blog Tour!

True Connection... Where do I even begin?

I was excited for this book as soon a it was brought to my attention. It's a new adult book which like most readers are totally loving at the moment. However what really got my attention was the supernatural aspect of the book.

It's been a while since I have read a book that has anything to do with the supernatural world... This is mainly due to the fact that most New Adult books are contemporary romance... I am so not complaining! I love a good romance, but lately I feel like I have been in a bit of a slump. True Connection had totally save me from my reading slump and reminded me of why I love books with just a little bit more then a good romance.

Right off the bat I loved the relationship between Jazzy and Henry. They are super close, best friends, but considering what they have gone through I'm glad they had each other.

Then there is Seth... Seth is the super hot guy that a lot of people think is a little weird, but for some reason Jazzy is inexplicable drawn to him. Their replay kinship although definitely not easy is super cute to follow and I loved learning about Seth's history, and what exactly is going on.

But to be honest, Skeeter was my favourite character in the book... She was just so genuinely nice. When Jazzy first meets her, she came across as kinda mean girlish... But I quickly got over that feeling. Oh and Skeeter an Henry?! Yea I totally need that story ASAP!

Of course a book that involves supernatural beings can't be complete without the bad guys... Enter Derik, he is the star quarterback at Jazzy and Henry's new school and he is a complete douche! He thinks he I gods gift to the female population and everyone should be honoured to even have him speak to you, let alone *gasp* ask you to sit at his lunch table! But Jazzy was having none of you *you go girl!* she totally put Derik in his place in a very funny way! Little did she know what she was brining onto herself though.

True Connection had so many great characters and I wanted to know more about all of them... I got little bits here and there about Henry and Barry, but I need more! This is definitely a book I will recommend to anyone who lives a good supernatural book. It is also yet another author I will be putting on my 'Must read new books now' list (god that list is getting long!)

I'm a sucker for soul mate books. So being completely honest I picked this book up because it had a mention of soul mates. I felt really bad for Jazzy in the beginning of the book. She lost so much but she seemed to be holding on okay and I do love that she was a stronger character and wasn't really a "shell" of a heroine. Sure she had those moments where you just want to shake her but let's be honest what heroine doesn't?
Henry was so funny I loved him. His relationship with Jazzy was perfect. Also the fact that I have an older brother and know what that relationship is like made me be able to appreciate their relationship so much more. Granted it may have seemed weird for people who don't have siblings but being a sibling I loved how close they were and to me it just added so much more appreciation to the novel. Also Henry's friends? Those guys were hilarious!!!!!!
Seth, I was really confused about what he was in the beginning. I went through the usual list: vampire, werewolf, fairy the usual. I was very surprised with what happened because I really wasn't expecting it. But back to Seth. He was really cute and sweet and treated Jaz so well. He was protective and sensible and while he wasn't that talk your panties off before you know what's even going on type of hero ( Daemon Black I'm looking at you) he was lovable in his own way. I think he's the guy you bring home to meet your parents because he's just so sweet and lovable.
The villain was predictable, the moment a certain someone was introduced a light went off in my head. This is where the book follows the somewhat typical YA paranormal romance with the villain, so if you read this type of genre often you will most likely see the bug reveal coming from a mile away.
That little note aside the book was an enjoyable light read that I recommend everyone check out.

I was given this book, True Connection from Ashley’s Reading bliss blog for an honest review. When I started this book, I had no idea what it was about. It truly was amazing and I loved it!!
Jazzy has experience in some very heart breaking tragedy in the last year and little does she know her world is about to be changed again. Jazzy meets Seth and knows right away he is special. Jazzy doesn’t know why she is so drawn to Seth but when he explains things to her, she has a hard time adjusting at first. She also learns there are others out there that are not human. She soon realizes not all of these immortals and creatures are good. She thought at times she was paranoid but finds out she has Defuxen, stalking her and they want her soul.
Jazzy cannot stand the thought of her friends and family because of the defuxen that is after her. When her family becomes a pawn in the defuxen's game to get to her she has to decide what to do. It isn’t easy. It was such an intense story. I loved every bit of it. I couldn’t put it down. It was truly an amazing read.
True Connection is written in Jazzy's POV. This works out great, because we get to see how the defuxen and her soul mate affect her emotions and life. With the many mind games played by the defuxen and her connection with Seth, Jazzy's struggles and emotions are put out there for everyone to see. It is hard on her because she is trying to figure out what the right thing to do is. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes paranormal romance. Rachel did a great job in writing this book. I can’t wait for the next book in this series to come out. I know it will be just as great as the first book. I give this book 5 out of 5 stars.

3 3/4 stars....

Alrighty...so this would be a solid 4 star read for me except for one tiny little thing. All I could think about though the whole book was the Twilight series. The plot line seemed familiar: meeting on the first day of a new school, a human winding up with a mystical supernatural being sole mate, a wolfy shifter protection detail and a group of life-sucking beings (including a curly-haired redhead) after the main character Jaz. All that being said though, the story still managed to suck me in and hold my interest. The details provided about each species (???) of supernatural beings were well thought out and very interesting.

The clincher for me was the cast of secondary characters. While I liked Jasmine and Seth, I feel like the story glossed over some of the more interesting parts of a new relationship and the sole mate aspect was accepted a little too quickly by everyone. The secondary characters though, especially Barry and Skeeter, made the book for me. The dynamics of their relationships, both with Jaz and the other characters, spoke to me more than the love interest.

Without spoiling the plot too much more I will say I am looking forward to book 2 in the series. I want to see what happens with Henry and the rest of the gang. My fingers are crossed that Barry ends up with a fantastic story because I truly love him and I can't wait to see how Skeeter develops.

Rachel Walter has weaved this mystic world that you really want to be a part of! I loved this book. I was sad when I had to put it down to tend to life. Jazzy and Seth are a dream! I love their relationship. It's exactly perfect for their age level, yet a relationship that anyone at any age, including me in my thirties, can appreciate. My teen daughter loved this book, too. It was perfect for her.

Rachel has taken her time with her characters, and the growing relationship each has to one another with regard to their interesting predicament! The characters are beautifully flawed, especially Jazzy, and Rachel captured this perfectly. Jazzy's pain in certain scenes was so real, that you just wanted to hug her, but then you see that spunky girl pick right back up and be that tough girl who won't let anything get her down. She selfless, she loving, she's innocent, but she's got an edge to her for sure.

The book has wonderful genre elements including romance, suspense, and of course it's action-packed.

If you think you've read every kind of paranormal out there with shifters, demons, etc., you're wrong. Pick this book up today. You won't be sorry. Looking forward to book two!

I had been in the mood for a good paranormal romance when I picked this one up, and I’m so glad I did. Because the paranormal aspect of this book was GREAT. And I have to say that was probably the crowning jewel of it too. There were so many new paranormal creatures introduced to me that I found myself captivated by the intricacy of it all. The author created a very believable world and I loved the relationships in the story. The main characters were great, but also the secondary. Over all a fantastic read.

When I read this book I was a little nervous if I would like it or not since its not my usual genre, but as I started it, I couldn't put it down! It is that awesome! There is a little bit of every genre in here, from paranormal, to romance to adventure and mystery. I seriously can not wait until the next book in this series and am interested in what Rachel Walters writes next.

Well, I got exactly what I expected, to say the least. But hey, despite low expectations I gave it a fair shot. To be honest, it is not the worst book of its kind, it’s just a primary example of the abyss that YA paranormal romance has become in a post-Twilight world.

We have yet another story of a girl starting at a new High School, falling for a hottie on her first day, discovers he is some supernatural creature and then is hunted by other creatures. You‘ve heard that story before. Many, many times. To the books credit, the romance, while borderline underdeveloped, is at least not a glamorized abusive one, so wheee, I guess.

The thing is, and that’s why mentioned Twilight specifically, is that despite its later many issues, Twilight at least is somewhat acceptably written. It’s no Shakespeare but the sentence structure is coherent and at least there is some kind of transition between events. Here, not so much.

It basically reads like a first draft or rather an outline, with several plot points to include and instead on stretching these out and developing them, the author just rushes through her checklist and the story is shallow at best. Stuff happens, but so unstructured it doesn’t really feel like a story at all. The climatic action and battle with bad guys feels more like a tagged on afterthought, because writing a book just about a girl falling for a supernatural hunk isn’t enough and some conflict needed to be there. The "looming threat" is mentioned a couple of times, a lot via ominous dreams (of course) and then it’s rushed through at the end with a potential sequel hook (again, Twilight textbook here).

The biggest problem however comes from the characters, because that’s usually where it comes from. Like a paper thin plot isn’t ideal, but good characters can even make that work. Not the case here.

Protagonist Jaz is the run in the mill main girl who naively runs through the story and her basic job is to be the damsel in distress. I give the author credit for at least giving her interests outside of her love interest, but a list of hobbies still makes no fleshed out character. There is also an attempt to give her some agency via trainings montage, which is amusingly stupid and way too late in the game.

The hunky love of Jaz‘s life, Seth, is generally a nice dude, but as boring as it gets. I spend a whole book with him and the only thing I know is that he likes to dip fries into his milkshake. Honestly, their relationship doesn’t even feel like the main event of the book.

Which brings me to the wonderful world of Alpha Male Madness. I hate it. This is what in the end brings the book down to one star for me.

Jaz‘s brother Henry and his friends of muscled shapeshifters (don’t ask) are the most manly men around, the strong alpha males who protect the fragile female "Princess“ (as they call her). Woman needs to be surrounded by strong macho men all the time to protect her from the villain, another strong macho man whom she turned down. She can’t do anything alone anymore and her so-called protectors can order her around, but it’s fine, they mean well.

Excuse me while I puke.

I hate this trope. I hate this trope so much you have no idea how much I hate it.

Everyone she meets is suddenly a super strong supernatural being, likes her and becomes her protector. Most of them are obviously big strong men. The other female characters barely matter in the story anyways. Worst of it is Jaz‘s brother, who gets his own tagged on supernatural backstory, because of course (and you gotta explain his behavior away somehow)

Henry is stereotypical overprotective brother to a point where he rejects her friends, is jealous for no reason and thinks he can order her around and needs to be informed about every aspect of her life up to a point where a friend from Jaz‘s past even jokingly asks "Henry let’s you date now?" This isn’t funny. It’s disturbing. Especially since every other male seems to catch on to this behavior and acts the same way, even if they barely know Jaz.

But it’s fine you guys, he is her brother and he can do that! No, it’s not. Sure she gets mad at him, but not really. It’s fine. Their relationship in general is written in a very weird and co-dependent way that seems not healthy at all. Being close to your siblings is one thing, living in codependency is another. Even other characters point out how weird their relationship is, but it’s never really explore further. Seriously, which brother and sister constantly call each other "beautiful“ and "stud“ as nicknames?

Other characters are basically a bunch of names and positions within their families or clans or whatever. And there are a lot of characters. But like with the plot they all stay shallow and it feels more like reading a character sheet than following actual developed characters.

And no one talks like a real person. The dialogues are mostly cringeworthy. Especially reactions to supernatural creatures. A bunch of exposition, followed by some generic questions and then a "Whatever, what’s for lunch?" I mean what?

The world building is thin at best. There are a lot of explanations to different species, but sounds more like a brief Wikipedia research than anything.

The romance is, well it’s as expected. They fall in love at first sight, he tells her they are soulmates because of some supernatural hoo ha and it’s eternal love. No Dyer looming necessary. Again, there is an attempt to develop this. Jaz does question if her choice is taken away from her and she realizes she doesn’t even know Seth that well, but it all stays on the surface. She pretty much accepts her new normal and soulmate right away.

And the novel has lots of those moments. There are right questions asked that other paranormal romances usually glance over, but they are never further developed. It really just seems like a lazy attempt to try to develop something, but without actually having to write it.

I might be harsh on this one and I‘m aware I‘m not the main target audience, but don’t teenagers deserve good characters and clever writing as well?

This is one of the many books in the bundle "Pandora". Though most of the ones I have read are YA, they are very good and I enjoyed this one very much.
Jasmine and her adopted brother Henry are living with their uncle Leland who is a well known NHL player, and his son Alex who is about 2 years old. Jasmine's and Henry's dad recently died and their mother is in a psych ward because she can't seem to get herself together. They are starting at a new high school. Jas as her friends call her and Henry are more like twins; they finish each others sentences, have the same set of friends, seldom fight with each other, and are protective of each other. They are much closer to each other than either were to their sister Sophie who died in the car crash with their dad. In art class Jas makes her first friend a girl named Skeeter. Also her first enemy - Derek - because she refuses to go out with him. She also dislikes his style of art. In math she sees Seth and is mesmerized by him. Henry dislikes him, people have told him Seth disappeared for about 2 months over the summer. When he left he was a little pipsqueak of a Nerd. When he returned he had grown a lot and really filled out. Jas shakes it off as a big growth spurt. Eventually Seth tells Jas that he is not human, he is an Amaranthine - a descendant from the Greek Immortals. When ever Jas is walking the halls alone she hears someone following her but never sees anyone. Then she starts having intense dreams. Barry, a friend of Henry's feels obligated to protect Jas. It seems Henry's friends, including Barry are Werewolves. Seth and the wolves figure out that a Devuxen, an evil entity in their supernatural world is after Jas. The Amaranthine elders and the werewolves decide to work together to make sure she is never alone. Some go so far as to change classes and one observes her Art Class. Meanwhile her Art Teacher tells her she is very good and he'd like her to submit some of her best work to an annual show. After Henry can't wake her from one of her nightmares, Barry moves in and sleeps on the floor or her bed as a wolf. But the dreams continue. Only when Seth is in bed with her does she not have the bad dreams. She and Seth can hear each others thoughts. This is one of the signs that they are destined to be mates. Jas and Henry's mom is released and moves into the house with them. The Devuxen, frustrated with the failure of their attacks and the amount of protection Jas has, kidnap Jas's mom and her little cousin Alex. Uncle Leland does not take the news of the supernatural battles going on all around him and learning about weres and Amaranthines. Then the witches are called in. Jas has to be very brave if she is going to help save her mom and cousin. She gets a crash course in self defense and knife fighting. She manages to kill 2 demons before the others successfully track her. Wow! Lots of action. And fortunately this is only book one of this world and these characters. I recommend it to anyone who likes paranormal no matter what your age.

Series: Soul Mate #1
Category /Genre: YA, Paranormal Romance
Recommended for: 16+ due to sexual innuendo and coarse language
Grammar/editing: B – a few small errors
Received from: Rachel Walter (in exchange for an honest review)

This is the first book in the Soul Mate series. They will need to be read in order, but there is no cliff-hanger, so it could be read as a stand-alone without getting into the series if you don’t like series.

After losing their sister and father in a car accident, Jas and Henry’s mother is put in the psych ward to deal with her depression. They go to live with their uncle and now go to school in the next district over –their former school’s rivals. On their first day of classes, Jas catches the attention of two hot guys… two hot guys who are both supernatural…two, hot, supernatural guys who are complete opposites. One is descended from Gods and is her soul mate. The other is a demon and will either own her or kill her.

This was a great young adult book. There are a lot of characters in the series, so pay attention to who is who, what they are, and how they are related – it is worth it to know. The story is great and not a carbon cut-out of everything else you’ve ever read. There are some fantastical, unique creatures and a worthy love story to make all of us sigh and swoon.

For me, who spent most of my growing up years in Western Pennsylvania, reading characters that say yinz (you or ya’all) and gum band (rubber band) brought on a nice little bit of nostalgia.

As I said, there is no cliff-hanger and you don’t have to read the series to find out what finally happened, but I can’t wait to get back to visiting the friends I have found in Lupiterra, Pennsylvania.

I received this book from the author and Paranormal Romance and Authors That Rock.
True Connection is the first book in the Soul Mate Series.
Jazzy and her brother Henry move in with their uncle after a tragic accident claims the lives of their father and sister. Jazzy and Henry share a unique bond with each other. They are very close. When they go to a new school, they discover some things are much different. Jazzy unexpectedly meets her soulmate and gets sucked into the supernatural world. She is being targeted by soul-sucking demons because she embarrassed one of them and he now wants her by his side. Jazzy meets new friends and learns more about the world she never knew before. She is forced to fight for her life, those she loves and her soulmate.

I enjoy soulmate stories, they alway make me smile. This one was unique. The different characters were interesting. The concept wasn't bad but it took awhile to read. There are a couple things that I didn't like. The first thing was how easily accepting everyone was and how they instantly wanted to protect Jazzy. The relationships were kind of awkward and characters acted unrealistic some of the time. The writing style was also a little different being in the present tense.
The good thing was Seth. I did enjoy his character. I was a little disappointed that we didn't get to see more of him other than him protecting and holding Jazz. I was hoping maybe we could have seen him fight or something more to him other than the gorgeous protective soulmate. I also wished there was more fighting and action. The story did pick up a little towards the end but not enough to be great.
I would recommend this story to YA fantasy fans who like fairy tale stories.
I would rate this 3 fangs.

***Original, complicated and yet so refreshing***

Soul mates, shifters, phoenixes, ... You name it, this story has got it!

If you want an intro into the whole paranormal genre, read this book and you'll get a lot of it covered.

Jazzy, our female lead, has just been through a serious traumatic event that causes her and her brother to move in with their "famous uncle".

Due to this they are forced to go to a new school, their old school rival one that is.

Enter, Seth, her one and only soul mate and the love of her life.... You didn't figure that that would be all would you? ;-) Throw in some shifter best friends, a brother and housekeeper with a secret and you'll get somewhat closer to the revelation of this story...

The road from beginning to end will be a bumpy one and will keep you on your toe's . You'll be constantly guessing what'll happen next.

I would like to conclude by saying that my only request to the author is that I want more of Jazzy and Seth's story! I felt they deserved a more well-rounded ending.

And I recommend that you get into this story without any disturbances around you cause there is a lot to wrap you head around.

Usually I'm okay witht he soul mate thing because it's an exuse to believe in the love at first site thing, which I just despise. Love at first sight it just a shallow decision of the mind in my opinion. I didn't like this book. I didn't believe their chemistry, they didn't seem in love to me. The brother was just annoying and the friend thing to. I'm glad that the brothers friends were magical as well because it gave an exuse as to why they were so weird about her boyfriend. I also didn't believe the "brother/sister" relationship between her and the brothers friend. I just didn't believe any of the connections theses characters had with one another. This book also had no originality to me because I read a book that had a lot of the same concepts except it was more believable. If you like this book, read the better, orignial version by Shelly crane, Significance.

This story was amazing! When it started out I thought it was another high school boy meets girl and falls in love. It is so much much more than anything like that. Yes there is a romance, but for me the focus of the book was the main character Jazzy and her family. The family goes through a traumatic experience and lean on each other while their whole world changes. I just loved the paranormal theme of the story. It had a good diversity of paranormal creatures that I don't usually see in stories. It was action packed and full of suspense. I can't wait to read the next installment and find out where Walter takes us next.

True Connection by Rachel Walter is a good book. With a terrific plot and an enormous cast of characters, Walter has undertaken a daunting task. New twists and demonic creatures, graphic fight scenes and a well written love story. It drags a bit, naturally, and I found myself losing large sections of time and events that I thought were presented in a manner of importance, were washed over in the aftermath. The details approaching these events, the art show for example, were rich with emphasis. But the event never happened in the book, just glossed over as a success in the wrap up. So, although the time factor became an issue, the story and characters are really well done.

It took me almost 10 days to finish this book. It was extremely boring and weird book. The dynamics of relationships is too fast. I am not even talking about relationship between boy and the girl. Almost everybody in the book jut magically fall in love with the MC and are ready to fight to death to protect her. And the "hero" of the book...seth, is just there. He is just an eye candy on the MC's hand. He has no important role in the book. Heck MC's brother has more role than MC. I am glad the book is finally finished and I can move on now.

I really enjoyed this book! I got a great sense of each of the characters, and they were all so likable. Jazzy has been though a lot- no doubt, but she is so strong and brave. I really liked the whole soul mates idea and the mind-talking. There were so many different paranormal characters here- and I loved that! Some of the scenes seemed a bit rushed though (like the fighting ones.) Although Jazzy and Seth were soul mates and connected and all, it was kind of hard to feel, like really feel that connection- though I'm not sure why. Great story!
