As is always the case with an anthology, you're going to love some stories, be indifferent to others and HATE the occasional story. Nothing came up on my hate-meter, but a few stories were a little on the 'meh' side. It is COMPLETELY worth it, just for the third story by Emma Kaye. I would recommend it just for that. The same group of authors has a summer collection, "Timeless Escapes" due out in the summer of 2014 and I think I'll pick it up. That and other books by Kaye. Worth a read. :)

Granting Her Wish:
My Thoughts:
This is a sweet love story. I am not usually a fan of the time travel love story, but this one is wonderful. The author offers a glimpse into Dani's trying life, haunted by money troubles, a not so great childhood and the burden of her ailing mother; and then comes Lee who has his own haunted past which has been overshadowed by what he calls luck and the love of a good woman. I knew right away that the young man is actually the old man, but that only made me read faster, hoping to figure out what comes next. The story is short and sweet, and left me with the feeling that we should all be so lucky as to find that one true love (hopefully not the time travel thing). I really enjoyed how the author brings the story full circle at the end while giving the whole tale a fulfilling finale.

Letter from St. Nick:
My thoughts:
This is a fascinating story with a new spin on vampires. The characters are realistic and fit the story and it's setting. The setting is carefully detailed and pulls the reader into both the war and the lives of the people living through it. The writing is vivid and you can all but hear the air raid sirens while the characters flee to shelters hoping to survive. Beth is waging a war all her own within a world of chaos as she changes and becomes what she believes to be a monster. Her struggle with her inner demon and her own personal beliefs is incredible. Her father's battle with the same is also heart-wrenching. Beth and Mary's strained friendship is yet one more battle to overcome. The story is filled with torment and hope. I finished the story feeling pleased with the outcome of so much, and yet wondering what will come with the next book - who is the woman looking for Beth, and what will her finding bring?
This is a historical fiction with vampires and a vampire hunters league - it is well worth a read, be sure to check this one out.

Christmas Spirits:
My Thoughts:
Wonderful. I liked that most of the story is told as flashback, spoken by the grandma Usually I look for the characters to pull me into the story, but in Chtristmas Spirits it is the tale itself that grabbed my heart. I found myself thinking wistfully about friendship and true love and how many people actually find it. I enjoyed every minute of the story and was left wiping my eyes at the sweet ending.

Mistletoe and Magick:
My thoughts:
I have a weakness for Christmas stories so I was excited to participate in this tour. The first story of the collection I read was Mistletoe and Magick. I liked Max immediately. It was the same with Ellyn. They are both strong willed and courageous, the kind of characters I love to read about. The story itself is steeped in lore, tradition and strong beliefs. As Max and Ellyn struggle in the Otherworld, where they have unwittingly traveled together, they form a bond that grows rapid and solid. I was enthralled by their journey in the Otherworld. The story is well written and touching. The emotions ran wild while I worried about the outcome of the path they embarked on. I was thrilled with the ending and found myself wishing that there were more pages to turn. I will be looking for more from Ruth A. Casie.

Secret Santa:
My Thoughts:
Fantastic love story. Reading this tale brings loss and life into a different light. I found myself marveling at the ability of the author to create so much intensity in a short story. Although the characters are paramount, and I fell for them fast, the pull to turn the page and find out more was what got me the most. Secret Santa is well written and compelling.
