The story unfolds in New Delhi, where 22 year old Tamanna Singh lives with her huge joint family. Despite all the love and affection she has received throughout her life, she knows she will always be the black sheep of the family. Reason? Her looks. A hormonal imbalance during her early adolescence has left her with dark patchy skin, and a bloated figure. Now at a “marriageable” age, as per her conservative Punjabi family, she must come to terms with the fact that she will marry whoever her family finds suitable. Or else…
The two words, “or else”, have always held temptation, curiosity and an overwhelming desire to break free, for the otherwise family oriented Tamanna. She knows her destiny lies in an arranged marriage, but she pushes the envelope in all other quarters of her life: smoking, drinking once in a while, racing cars on the National Highway, and pursuing her love for psychotherapy and higher studies in a classic business class family.
All is forgiven because of two reasons: one, Tamanna’s accommodating ways, her ready smile and the fact that she lives to make her family smile (even if it is with her “sometimes crazy” antics). Two, because it is an unsaid agreement between her and the family that she will marry exactly where they would decide.
And so she keeps calm and carries on. Until the day she challenged the “or else”. When Tamanna met Ankit Gehlawat online, through a common friend, she knew instantly that she had a connection with this boy. Tall and good looking, he carried himself with an all knowing air that only she could penetrate. And when she did so, she found a child within. A child who came from a somewhat troubled family, with a past of his own. The two souls bonded over Skype,Whatsapp, Facebook and the like.
When Tamanna and Ankit met, they became the best of friends. Based in London, where he attended B School, Ankit lived by the same set of rules as Tamanna. This boy from Haryana knew that he would marry only one girl: the one that his mother would choose. But they had been brought together for a reason. And they could not stop the storm when it came.
Just like their love came in tidal waves, so did their separation. So did the problems, the stupid decisions, the reluctance to commit, the stubbornness of their family members, broken engagements with other people, lies, tears, an accidental pregnancy, elopement, marriage, and the ensuing drama – all of it. What happens in the end is yet to be seen.
This is a true story, partly dramatised. It is based on the life of a girl who refuses to be named. She simply wanted to story out. Akanksha met this young lady twice - once in her dreams, and then in the flesh. After managing to convince this girl to sit down and talk to her, Akanksha knew she would have to find someone to pen down the story. And that someone turned out to be Devangini M Chauhan. That is how Speed Breakers was born.
The story will be released in a total of five parts. So watch out for the upcoming parts.
