As the story continues, Evie learns things weren’t what she believed, family secrets come to light, she steps into a role always meant for her and ultimately the villain wins.
The only other main side character is Amos, who also isn’t what he seems, and will eventually have his own story. I can’t wait to find out how the Princesss guard is conceived 😈. Read the book to get this reference lol
No story is perfect. There were some unsanitary practices that grossed me out a little, but easily overlooked. I didn’t like how violent Max was with Evie later on in the pregnancy. It’s not realistic and could have caused early labor. I also thought the last sex scene was really hot and different, UNTIL he ignored her. I was sort of hoping for once he’d think of her and the baby, but his orgasm was his priority. So a star off for those reasons.

Consider this the heroine’s villain story. This answers the question: what if the good heroine was the bad girl all along?
Not that she was the puppeteer pulling all the strings of the events, mind you, but what if the heroine who was kidnapped by her half-brother, a mafia boss, simply gave in to the temptation?
I feel like this heroine, Moon may turn people off but I quite liked her because it was unique. The heroine reminds me a lot of the other woman or the superficial woman the hero usually dumps for the virtuous woman.
What unlocks Moon finally giving in to her brother, Maximus, is the secret link of being chased and coerced. There is a bit of Stockholm’s Syndrome with her thinking he is the only man to ever stick around. Flickers of her being aware of her power over him.
It’s not too deep but the chemistry is good (and the dirty talk), and the plot keeps things going.

For seven years Maximus Giordano loved Evie Rothery unconditionally. But his life choices pushed her away and severed the bond they had. He had waited long enough and took matters into his own hands to finally own her.
This one was light in plot but very smutty and entertaining. I loved Max and his undying obsession. At some point, I felt sorry for him even though he was a nightmare. I liked Evie and her evolution, even though not quite convincing due to her past. I also enjoy Amos and his role in their lives.
Something about the chase, the primal aspect of searching, hunting, conquering. The adrenaline and fear, the animalistic instincts taking over, it was raw, feral, and powerful, and Evelyn had finally been broken.
Chasing Moon is a story of obsession and possession. It would appeal to readers who enjoy taboo erotica.

I’m a mood reader but dark romance is my preferred genre. I don’t read a ton of taboo stuff because my brain rails against suspending my disbelief for it. I think it possible to read and maybe like a book that fails to suspend your disbelief but it’s definitely more of a challenge.
This is not a book I would have normally chosen. The taboo element here is HEAVY. If you really enjoy dark taboo reads then you are in for a treat. When I decided to read this I didn’t actually realize it was as taboo as it is. There will major spoilers going forward. I marked this as a spoiler review and I’m not playing. Spoilers abound below.
Okay, so when I borrowed this from KU I had the initial impression it was like stepsiblings. I based my decision to read it on a Facebook reader group recommendation. I don’t recall of the original poster mentioned it being a sibling thing or not, if they did I didn’t notice. I was grabbing it for different reasons. It was dark, fast burn, obsessed H, captive AND the poster felt it was unlikely to remain on Amazon for very long based on the noncon content. Who doesn’t want to read a banned book before it gets banned? I was sold. Do I think it will be banned? Honestly, I think so. It’s pretty unapologetic and approaches the entire taboo/noncon stuff with all the finesse of a bull in a china shop.
I realized quickly it was actually half siblings. Then late in the book you discover that’s it’s actually full siblings. Surprise!
This book does have an HEA. The H proclaims loudly throughout his love and devotion to h. Understandably she takes most of the book to return his affection. They do end up together happily and consensually with the help of some Stockholm syndrome, of course. However, despite the HEA and H’s proclamations of love this book isn’t really romantic. Definitely dark and taboo erotica with talk of love but little actual romance.
This started out a bad foot. The first scene with H is him in a meeting with his mafia dudes and he’s getting a blow job right there in the middle of it. The OW he’s using has the audacity to complain about his treatment so he throws her out. I didn’t need to see H with his dick in OWs throat to understand the mob boss had not pined away in celibacy waiting for the right time to claim his unwilling sister. Dark romance or not H having dick inside OW *on the page* is never welcome. This is one circumstance you should really just fucking tell and not show and let’s not forget there are other ways to show me that don’t actively involve having Hs dick in an OW on page. Good fucking grief. I should have probably just quit here.
The Hs actions don’t match his words. He treats the h very poorly in the beginning. She’s literally chained naked, spread eagle to a bed for over 2 months and raped several times a day. There’s some acknowledgment of how detrimental to her health this is but it’s extremely unrealistic in how much worse shape she’d actually be in if this were the case. She has some weakness and pins and needles feeling but is functional again after a massage 🤦🏻♀️. It would be so much worse. I realize this book wasn’t going for realism but honestly it would have been better if the author had just pretended like she wasn’t damaged at all and no harm could be caused by this treatment than to pretend like so little harm would have resulted.
H acknowledges early on she’s been there like that for two weeks and only had a few meals. Aside from his treatment she was also denied food and he’s actively trying to breed her. How is that supposed to help her get knocked up.
Eventually his guilt at how long it’s taking to break her and how miserable she is why he relents and allows her free movement through the house. At that point things do take an upswing in their relationship. You can feel Hs frustration and desperation to have his feelings reciprocated but it’s hard to feel sorry for him when he’s been treating her so badly. I prefer my dark romances to actually romance the h and not treat her physical well-being so callously. I want the forced seduction of h falling under H’s spell to make her want the H despite knowing she shouldn’t because he’s a monster holding her captive. I want my dark romance H’s taking notes from Anna Zaire’s’ Julian Eguerra and pretty much any Sam Mariano H. This just didn’t cut it for me.

I don't know how I will rate this book
On one hand, I actually like the premise and plot of this book. The more fucked up the better 🤡
But the writing style is just awful. It lacks depth and I wasn't able to connect with the characters (I find Evelyn annoying most of the time). I ended up skimming some of the chapters. Whenever the author uses "ahem" "unh" "ahem" "mm" "ahg" I die inside.
There are a lot of moments in this book where I would just be like?????? "Well, that was dumb as hell," "that was cringe," or "that gave me the fucking ick"
But since I'm just craving for something dark and fucked up and I read this book with low expectations and did not take it too seriously (which i usually do whenever i read dark romance books), I'll let it slide.
The smuts were really good tho. That's why I'm rating this higher than two stars. I just came here for a good time y'all 🤷♀️
FMC got corrupted by the MMC and they both ended being psychotic together 😭✋.

Even if it’s against her will… Maximus is a definite psychopath. He is obsessively in love with his little sister and will go to ANY length to make her his forever. He believes it was written in the stars and meant to be that way. Now he just has to convince her, or give her no choice. HJ Stallard writes these characters so well. Each page is more addictive than the next. I’m grateful there is an author out there writing all the about the darkest curiosities a lot of us have but don’t want to talk about! Don’t be ashamed to enjoy such a great book!

I did not enjoy this book.
The trope wasn’t the issue, the book was just boring.
Sex scenes were extremely repetitive and the dialogue was often cringe-worthy. I am usually quite forgiving of poor dialogue but you felt like you were reading the same thing over and over.
Characters were unlikeable and one-dimensional.
The MMC seemed incredibly immature and the FMC made sudden changes to her whole demeanour with no real catalyst and with no real explanation. She came across as vapid and cruel, despite spending years as a conscientious and academically-driven woman.
The book was littered with repeated spelling errors or just the use of incorrect words. I am usually quite forgiving of this but it happened so often I found it very distracting to the book.

TABOO! Brother/sister. Kîdnapping, r@pe, tampering with birth control, forced pregnancy, cnc, dubcon, primal play, touch her and die(literally), physical violence, choking, slapping…literally all the triggers. No cheating, though, and an HEA. If you have no triggers, this was super hot and fast paced. I enjoyed it.

I think the downfall for the story for me was the writing style. This was my first book by this author I won’t be reading any other books by them and the erotic scenes just were not sexy to me.

Even the characters acknowledge how nuts they are lol but it’s like driving by a car crash that you just can’t look away from. Quite a ride, suspenseful, and filthy. What more could you want? Highly recommend but also, read at your own risk and don’t say I didn’t warn you ⚠️

Well then! This one was about as taboo as a book can get, and I grabbed it up before Zon had the chance to ban it (which of course, they did almost immediately.) I wasn't bothered by the relationship between these two, but there were some of the noncon scenes (which I normally am all for) that kind of got to me as too extreme. And as someone who works in the medical field with wound care, I cannot imagine how she didn't get pressure ulcers/bed sores from being chained up for so long. But suspending reality had me thoroughly enjoying this story.

More smut than story, I’m a little bit on the fence over how I feel about this book. The beginning was great, but somewhere towards the end I felt like the pacing was off, and the story started being less strong. Definitely very taboo with lots of triggers, the writing wasn’t bad but some things I’d improve. It’s not too long, so it’s a good quick and spicy read.

I feel like I’m losing my mind reading this. I read a lot of books but he might be the most psychotic of them all…it’s not that dark he’s just a true psycho lmao
What makes me gone for this psycho is ‘You are my priority, our child is second’ like damn idk why but I don’t like it when a man love his child more than his wife…I just don’t. This was definitely something! Heavy on the noncon, breeding, and incest talk (“your my sister!” lol). But damn it was captivating!
I am one of those weirdos who really likes to read taboo stuff though. The more taboo the better! haha Not that I condone it in real life, but I like reading it.
Anywho…there was a lot I liked about the book.
I liked that it was taboo to a fault. I liked that the author approached the taboo topics with no fear of writing them. It was steamy and sexy and shocking in all the best ways.
I also thought Evie’s progression was really well done and gradual. She does a complete 180 in so many ways by the end of the book. But it was such a gradual process that it felt believable for her to get to that place mentally.
I liked villainous Max and his over the top obsession with Evie. He is literally CRAZY about her. In real life? Max would be an asshole rapist. In this book? I liked his possessiveness that knows no bounds.
I even kind of understood the whole pushing siblings together to keep their mafia family “pure”. I can see this actually being something that would happen for the reasons mentioned. I mean, back in the day inbreeding was done on purpose to preserve royal lines. That being said, I also totally saw the ending coming with Max revealing he wants to carry on their "legacy" by encouraging the next generation to keep it in the family. Wrong? Yes. Unexpected? No. I was starting to wonder if that might be why he was so obsessed with breeding Evie in the first place. It was only confirmed for me.
Moving on though…The steam in this was so hot. I loved Max’s dirty talk. There’s a lot of sex in the book, which can sometimes be too much and start to feel boring. But that wasn’t the case for me. The steam was just smoking hot. I didn’t get bored.
My only issues are some annoying grammar errors here and there. And I also thought the author shouldn’t have opted to use specific dates for each chapter. The month and day are okay to sort of write it as a journal and show the passage of time. But putting the year on there is going to really date the book in a few years. Just my opinion.
Overall I was thoroughly entertained. If you’re a fan of reading dark noncon incest romance then this one is for you. If reading about those things bother you then stay far away from this one because there’s A LOT of it in this book! :)

June 29, 2025I won't rate because I DNF at 5%. But I have something I have to get off my chest. It's just bad luck that this book was the last straw for me when dealing with ridiculous portayal of courage for female main characters (fmcs).
I know we -as readers- tend to be particularly difficultt with fmcs. It makes it challenging for authors to write fmcs readers will want to read about.
But for me, the worst is when I get the impression the author is trying to write a strong and courageous fmc but it feels like her "couage" has no foundation and ends up just seeming ridiculous, immature and just plain stupid.
This happens often, so it's not that this book was particularly worse than any other -again, I only read 5%- but when I read the now all too familiar scene where the fmc acts feerless when facing a dangerous situation, I rolled my eyes and didn't have it in me to go on.
In fact, this happens so often in the books I read, I have no clue if I'm the only one who gets annoyed by it.
But to me, if an fmc desides to talk back to a truly dangerous man, I think she is either an idiot, has a death wish, secretly knows mma or has lived a very sheltered life where the worst villain is the grumpy Carebear.
In this particular book, the scene comes right after a scene where we meet the mmc for the first time. The scene serves to show the readers that he is obsessed with the fmc and is ruthless in his criminal dealings. We see him order the execution of a woman who he had just finished roughly deepthroating her while discussing drug dealings and ordering the execution of another member.
So as a reader we understand he is more than morally grey. This doesn't bother me as I actually like real dark romance. And by crossing a line that many books don't cross (often even dark romance will have mmcs not willing to kill women and children but here we see it is not the case. The woman did nothing wrong aside from complaining about him pushing her head during her bj. Since she knows too much, she can't be let go so she is killed.)
As a reader I understand this man is dangerous and should be feared.
Then comes the 25 year old fmc still living with her parents, going to school and sad she can't keep a boyfriend more than a couple of weeks (we guess fairly quickly this is the mmc's doing).
When the mmc's right hand man asks tells her the mmc wants a word, she acts annoyed and pissed off because she had already told the mmc (who also happens to be her brother) she wanted nothing to do with him.
This just annoyed me.
Either the author's setup of the mmc was off or the fmc is a spoiled idiot who doesn't understand the risk.

Narrated in dual POV, Maximus is a man of power and means, and as he executes his plan, Evelyn fights against what he wants, yet the truth begins to reveal itself. From the beginning, Maximus and his methods are clear and his passion is contagious. There were times when I sympathized with Evie but there were later parts where she grated on me. Given the subject matter, the ending was a little too sweet, but overall the story ticked the taboo box.

Well I got this on KU before it disappeared. I got it yesterday and finished it last night. So I read a few things about how everybody should read this book before it could be taken off/banned from KU because of how taboo it is I was like hell yeah I want to read it. I don't have any triggers and don't have any cringes, let's do it. Well y'all I read it in less than 4 hours. So I thought it was well written, this story was interesting and the fact that I haven't read another book like this, so it was different. So I'm not big on the fact that it is !n¢est, with that being said it didn't bother me because it's a book but it's not okay in real life. During the extracurricular activity scenes if you can forget about the 🩸 relations, those scenes are 🔥. Max is very primal and gets what he wants and doesn't care how it happens. The rain storm scenes are 🔥, hunter/prey
