Everyone has secrets...

A mysterious ad. A job she could just die for. And now, a life she's perfectly suited to. Alexis has it all, including her very own alias, Ms. Grey. That is until White is shot and Alex feels the need to stay by his side while he recovers.

Nursing White back to health for the past two months has prevented her from taking on any new projects. So she's more than ready to get back to work when White offers her a simple surveillance job. The basic op turns up something from the past, putting extra pressure on White, and cutting Alex off the elite need-to-know list.

This book more than lives up to its predecessors. It leaves you begging for more! Without giving out spoilers:
Ms. Grey continues in her role with White and Associates, but is all really as it seems? When living with so much secrecy becomes a way of life, who do you trust? Is there room in that life for romance? Do legacies trump aspirations?

I can't wait for book 5...Ms. Phelps has done a great job of making the reader long for more.

Book 4 finds us a month out from White being shot while attempting a rescue of Alex’s mother from a madman. There’s not much movement in the relationship between White and Alex, which wouldn’t be so impossible to handle if her work assignments weren’t stalled as well. Having the impatience of a two-year old gets her a new gig working directly with White. It’s a heady thing that may bear fruit, if she’s lucky.

It’s unfortunate that the assignment concludes with new barriers between the lovers that never get resolved or explained over the remainder of the book. Instead we find ourselves thrust into Alex’s next assignment; which serves to illustrate just how good she is. This may not be such a good thing, as it proves a pivotal moment for all the partners. Its impact is profound, and its consequences abrupt and startling.

I adore this series. I love the female protagonist and the various characters comprising her life. I love the small adventures within the overall arc and the growth we’ve seen in Alex during her time with White and Associates. Now let me step away from my fan-girl self for a moment. That is to say that I am a fan-girl of the series—but I’m stepping away from it for purposes of this review only.

Alex is somewhat spoiled--yet a hard worker. She is given to violence or combativeness more often than her male counterparts. Her overreactions come across as a fractious feminist at worst—all of which is realistic given her background. I was not crazy about the ending in Book 3; the way Alex embraces her legacy is a little cheesy, in my opinion. It was such a small thing at the time that I really didn’t see it as a major turnoff to my overall enjoyment.

Moving forward to Book 4 and the cheese factor starts to wreak havoc on my enjoyment. Those discordant notes carry over into several moments in the story. I admit it. I sneered after each one thinking “what a drama queen”. Those moments read like a teenager making dramatic pronouncements before flouncing out of a room full of grown men. Who does that? Or rather, what adult does that? I was embarrassed for the character and womankind as a whole.

Back to fan-girl mode: I’m still looking forward to reading about the new turn the series is taking. Alex is still a blooming young killer and operative who just needs more time to fully blossom.

This book was very well written. There were some technical issues, but I love this storyline. This book ended with a very sad ending. (no one died but...) It was very emotional. Let's just say I HATE MR. RED!!! I enjoyed what I like to call the games. When they went to Wyoming and they were doing the training op. I called it "laser tag" I enjoy reading them. I definitely recommend this book.

Goodness the action

So much happens in this book. Alex finally shows her feelings of White. The action is very interesting. The military scenarios are detailed but not too much that it gets boring for a woman reading.

Even better writing just as much fun as ever! Loved this one except Alex's doubts about White. It is reasonable under the circumstances but I want her to accept that he really cares about her. The survival training was awesome! I love when they go to Wyoming! Red is being a pain agian...what it that all about? If you are not already a fan, start with the first book but if you are, you will love, love, love this one! I still adore Black! We get to see a bit of Penumbra!

I can honestly say I could not put this book down. I started and finished this book in one afternoon. It had everything I love in a book. It had action, adventure, romance and in the end it left me clamoring for more. I have loved each book more than the last and I cannot wait until the next one comes out!

Another Stunning Book!

I've thoroughly enjoyed this series from the first book and loved this addition as well. The ending did not end as I would of liked with Alex and Rick but it has me wanting more and wondering how long I will need to wait for book 5 to come out.

This book had a good ending leading me. Toward book five. Can't leave a mystery unsolved. So on to ordering book 5.

Nice. I kind of expected the ending... Penumbra wasn't covering her tracks very well considering who he coworkers are... But it was still good. Interested to see what happens next.
