Destroying the Wrong

Rate this book
Alissa Sullivan has got it made -- a supportive, loving family, a cause she believes in, and her new boyfriend. With her best friend Kat at her side, she was counting the days until the end of high school when they could go away to college together. Then she met Scott, a man who wouldn't touch her but would turn her life upside-down.
Katherine Horne is perfectly content being in the background. All she wants is to graduate and get out of the town she's grown to loathe. She'd do anything to avoid confrontation but when she finds herself in increasingly humiliating situations, she realizes some things can't be ignored. Especially when it comes to bullying.
With their carefully planned futures unraveling, Kat and Alissa will come to realize the bond of their friendship will be tested... and might not make it through intact.

This is book 1 in a 3 part series.

I received my copy of Destroying the Wrong through the Goodreads First Reads program, so a big thanks to both goodreads and Evelyne for providing an exciting opportunity to review an enjoyable book.

I have to admit that I read Destroying the Wrong quite passively. I plodded along with the plot, following the antics of Alissa Sullivan and the other characters of her world. Now that a couple of days have past since I’ve finished reading the book, I find that the book has a slightly bitter and very bizarre aftertaste.

Evelyne Stone has the amazing ability to transport us to those high school days where adolescents find themselves outgrowing pigtails and ponies to enter into a world of pleasure through love, sex, and the senses. The experience of the transition from child to adult is represented in the two characters of Alissa and Katherine and their encounters with friends, boys, adults, their community etc. The fascinating appeal of Evelyne’s novel is the minimalistic approach in narrating each girl’s story while exploring and raising questions about love, life, and social media.

The strongest point of Destroying the Wrong and my basis for recommendation is Evelyne Stone’s unapologetic representation of the superficial and sensational aspects of life. This is a book that celebrates the senses: Alissa, Matt, and Scott obsession with the visceral and tactile, Walt and Kelly’s sexual and sadistic interests, and the overarching theme of physicality and beauty. Authors in the YA and romance genre may overcompensate for the unrealistic/superficial characters and relationships in their novel by including long-winded descriptions of a character’s emotions/psyche when most of the readership has picked up the book to enjoy the “romance.” Evelyne Stone is an author who “tells it like it is” without the added flourish of tantalizing detail – and I applaud and thank her for her approach in writing Destroying the Wrong.

I find that the strongest point of the text is also responsible for the bitter aftertaste. Destroying the Wrong explores many moments of transition and experimentation for the teenagers including a new boyfriend, online companionship, peer pressure and bullying, confrontation, and rape/sexual assault. The areas of the text that had potential for an interesting/meaningful discussion (on bullying or sexual assault) were glossed over and instead another passage was dedicated to the developments of the triangle between Alissa-Matt-Scott. Considering that Destroying the Wrong is bookended with anti-bullying sentiment and discussions of trauma and sexual assault, I wish (so much so!) that the text dedicated more space to Katherine and her fight against the negativity that fate incessantly directs her way.

Destroying the Wrong is an enjoyable read which would add nicely to any young adult fiction collection. If you pick this book up, please look forward to memorable characters and a potential book two. : )

I read this story in one day. It was a very easy read; nothing too complicated. I admit, I had to "get into" the story at first because I had a hard time grasping the characters and felt the beginning was too rushed. The story starts off with Alissa and Katherine, high school juniors and best-friends for life! Alissa is out-going, flirty, sassy, and talk about "boy-crazy." There were times when I simply adored Alissa. She is a great person and a great friend to Kat. Alissa cared for her so deeply; she loved Kat like a sister. The connection between them was so real and genuine. I felt it throughout the whole story; their love for each other. They always had each other's backs. But then there were times when Alissa aggravated me so much, I wanted to reach through my iPad and slap her a new one! The decisions she made were just so immature and stupid but, that's what you expect from a 17 year old. Hahaha...

I loved, loved, loved Kat! I loved that she always stayed true to herself no matter what. Yeah, she's bullied and practically ridiculed in front of the whole school, but she stuck it out. I loved her bravery and loyalty towards Alissa. Kat truly is the best friend a girl can have. I also thought Kat was much more prettier than Alissa; even though her figure was a little curvier. Kat's personality was so beautiful and enchanting; how could you not root for this girl? Oh and, let's not forget about Dillon! *fans myself* That man is on fire in this book. He totally came out of nowhere and creeped right into Kat's heart.

Even though the story was a little too juvenile for me, I still liked it. I would have smacked Alissa around a few times, but I hope she changes her ways in the next books. The book ends off with a lot of questions and a little cliffhanger, but that's expected in a series. I hope we get to see more of Dillon!! *swoon*

Alissa and Katherine had been best friend since childhood. Alissa got a loving family, a perfect appearance that got her a new boyfriend, Matt. Katherine had always been the supporting character in Alissa life, a loner that only wanted to stay out of the spotlight. they were counting the days until they finish high school and go to college together. but things changed when Alissa met Scott, a man that wouldn't touch her but continued luring her; and Katherine met Walt, an uneasy guy that held great interest towards her.

i received a free e-book from the author in exchanged for a review and finished the book in one sitting. despite having a simple plot, it remained so engaging from its beginning until the very end that the book was impossible to put down. the story followed 2 friends on their high school life, how they avoid being the target of bullies, and how they managed to recover from it after being targeted. while Kat was obviously the more likable character compared to Alissa, it was also understandable why Alissa would be such a person under such circumstances. in many ways, the relatable situation made everything so believable and furthermore captivating.

I really enjoyed this story, Was well written and the characters POV was really great. The 2 main characters each was given a POV. The story itself was great. I felt like I couldn't get enough of it. Yes it made me laugh, cry and even get really mad, This is for sure worth the read and then some. I'm going crazy just waiting to get book 2 when ever that comes out. This is one book that you will read cover to cover. It also was really great how it talked about Bullying, anymore it's a big thing in schools all over and this just goes to show support for that cause so I thank the author for that.

Katherine Horne is one unlucky girl. The universe must have connived to make her life miserable. Her – the girl who is contented to remain in the background. Lately, she finds herself in embarrassing and humiliating instances – whatever she does, whatever she says, she will always end up the same. When she became a victim of bullying, instead of fighting back, she decided to sink into her own world, gave up her social life, lived like a recluse, refused to attend to any school activity (yes, including PROM) and decided to take online classes for the summer so that she can finish high school early. All she wanted to do was to get out of the town she grown to hate.

Alissa Sullivan is one lucky girl. The stars are in her favor – she has a hot boyfriend, an amazing family, she’s passionate in the cause that she strongly believed in. With her best friend, she’s counting the days they finished high school and go to college together. Everything was just normal – until Scott came into her life. This man – who’s way older than her hasn’t touched her (because she’s a minor), but he’s counting the days until her birthday. While doing that, he does and says things which makes her more confused and turns her world in topsy-turvy.

I like these two girls – they have a great friendship. They are more than each other’s friends – they’re more of like sisters. Both are lucky to have one another. I feel sad for Katherine, I wished that the world would throw her some luck, but no. I wanted her to grow some guts and fight for herself rather than allow other people to push her around. It was nice that Alissa is usually on her side, fighting back for her. But Alissa has her own secrets too. This girl is playing some dangerous game. I’m not sure if Scott is a good or bad guy. I wish to know him more on the next novel.

One topic discussed in this book is about Bullying. Bullying is a long-standing problem of the school system everywhere. A lot of students have been victims, some even may dropped out of school just to avoid being ridiculed. Some can be strong enough to withstand it or fight back – but others don’t. Good thing that support system over the internet, social media sites at the same time in the community are readily available to offer the support needed.

The ending was okay, I have to wait for the next one in the series though. I wanted to know more about Dillion and Kat – I want to make sure that her luck is really changing and that finally, she’s going to have her happy ending after everything she had been through.

Destroying the Wrong is a story of friendship, survival and love.

Alissa and Katherine can’t wait for the school year to end. They want to graduate and get out of this school that has become a nightmare. But there are still a few months to go and Kat and Alyssa will have to navigate the reality of bullying and boys before they’ll have the freedom they long for.

Destroying the wrong has two main themes at its heart.

The first is bullying. Well done to Ms Stone for tackling such a relevant and yet difficult topic! The reality and brutality of the bullying is eye-opening. Sadly, Ms stone is right too - with the advent of social media, bullying has reached a new low. Teens are cruel and have no qualms about splashing one another’s shame across media networks. While some of the scenes were a little cliched in terms of their angst, I felt that Ms Stone did a wonderful job of portraying the challenges that face many teens nowadays and hopefully, she will create some much needed awareness around this cruel practice.

The second theme is teen relationships. Ms Stone has so accurately portrayed the nervous, excited, jumble of hormones of a first physical relationship. The relationship between Matt and Alyssa progressed much too quickly for my liking and lacked softer emotions. This made me wonder if this is not a sign of the times. Sadly, the idea of girls discussing and planning the giving up of their most precious gift of virginity like it’s something to ‘get over with’, is shocking but true. The lack of respect and monogamy was annoying for me. I like my characters to have a bit of morality in their spines - but the simple truth is that not everyone does. Ms Stone expertly captured the naughty excitement and fear of wrong doing with her words.

There were some tense issues and some parts I felt were contrived. I would have also like to see a bit more depth in the lives of Kat and Alyssa - surely there is more to their lives that bullying and boys. But perhaps that is the whole intention of this novel. Perhaps these things consume our lives as teenagers to such an extent that we cannot see past them? I love a good book with an important message and this one has a few. It made me think past the end of the book and wonder. The story itself is pretty ‘normal’ and yet Ms Stone has managed to take a mundane part of life and turn it into something frightening, exciting, passionate, tender, naughty and eye-opening.

Will lust eventually turn into love?

This is a wonderful book and the author really captures both the loyalty between the two girls, Allisa and Kat, and the turmoil of their emotions as they each experience and cope with all those tumultuous things in junior/senior year of high school. There’s the bullying, which other reviewers mention, which is well done … I’d actually have liked seeing more details going deeper than what the author has provided us with on that. Then, there’s the whole dating experience Kat has with her first boyfriend and how devastated she is when that didn’t work out … again, I’d have liked seeing more details on the breakup: Kat was very quick to distance herself from him with no chance for any forgiveness … I’m not sure if that’s in spite of her youth and inexperience or because of it; and, why didn’t he try harder to win her back?

Allisa’s sexual awakenings are very well done. And, very complicated. She’s in lust with Scott which leads to her destroying her relationship with Matt. There wasn’t enough info on Matt, both for when his first girlfriend dropped him, his reactions to that, his not working harder at his relationship with Allisa and then, I’m not sure I saw it coming … how he may have cheated at the end; that was almost too convenient. Scott was another enigma and I’d have liked more info about him. His “gift” to Allisa was certainly inappropriate but, had there first been some blazingly “hot” text messages going back and forth, it might then have made more sense. (I’d have maybe enjoyed seeing some blazing text messages like that … after all, this book is for ages 18+, right?). There really needed to be more than just how “hot” he looked to explain all of Allisa’s lust. We’ll have to see in future books just what his true agenda and feelings for her might be and how she deals with that. Will lust eventually turn into love? Or …?

All in all, a great read, which does stop at an appropriate point in their lives but which definitely leaves several unresolved story lines. I can only hope there will indeed be a HEA for Kat and Dillon at some point, whether in the next book or maybe the one after that. They are great characters and a wonderful couple! I am going to download the next book right after posting this review in order to see where things go for these two great friends in college!

This book is great for young adults to read due to the subject matter. Bullying is something that is very real, and it's happening everywhere. Those who are being bullied, are the ones that stay in the background and try to stay out of everyone's way. This was the situation with Katherine. Unfortunately when things happen, the victim suffers in silence because they don't want anyone to know about it.

Alissa and Katherine are best friends. I'm not really sure how I feel about Alissa's character. Alissa has a great family, a wonderful friend and a boyfriend, and somehow that isn't enough for her. I can relate to Katherine's character being the one in school that always wanted to stay in the background.

Matt, who is Alissa's boyfriend is a sweetheart. He's loving, patient and kind. He has no problem with showing Alissa how he feels.

Matt and Alissa start going to meetings to help prevent bullying and also decided to take some self defense lessons in case someone needed the help. Alissa is introduced to Scott, who is the owner of the gym and runs the bullying class. Alissa immediately starts to feel an attraction towards him.

I'm not liking Scott's character. I can't tell you why because I don't want to spoil it for you. He seems all nice on the outside but he has his own agenda.

I give this book 5 stars due to the important message received from this book I look forward to reading book 2 when the girls are off to college.

Mature YA Novel: Many Wrongs Don't Make a Right

In Destroying the Wrong, by Evelyne Stone, Alissa is happily dancing through her high school junior year. With a great best friend, a blossoming romance, and an anti-bullying cause to champion, Alissa has it all.

Alissa best friend Kat is a sensitive introvert who loves to write. She doesn't pay much attention to the outside world, let alone boys or school activities. She's happy in her cone of silence, with just Alissa's friendship.

The Disorder Alliance is a pack of bratty bullies. Kelly is the Queen of Disorder, and incites her followers to escalating bullying and terrorizing of other students. She turns the pack on Kat, orchestrating a cruel hoax. Kelly ratchets up the bullying by spreading lies about Kat on the internet.

As Alissa finds herself in a strange non-relationship with an older guy and Kat tries to move past the Disorder Alliance bullying, senior year is a time for growing up and learning how to navigate life and its strange situations.

Ms. Stone has created a teen world of multi-dimensional characters and has done an excellent job capturing the trials and tribulations of the age group. She also explores modern day issues related to social media and the role of the internet in young people's lives. Her delicate handling of bullying and other difficult topics is laudable.

For a mature young adult reader, this book is an excellent read.

Alissa and Katherine are best friends. Dealing with the drama of high school, being a teen girl and just growing up in general they are a constant in each other’s lives. While Alissa begins a relationship with Matt, Katherine is on her own in the craziness that is teenage girl-dom. However, no matter the directions that their lives take, they are always there for one another as support and best friends.
Beginning this book, I thought that main theme would be bullying. While it was a large focus, there were so many other themes within this story that just hit the nail on the head. Being a teenager is hard, being a teenage girl can be hell! It was easy for me to relate to both characters, to understand them and in a way to be there with them emotionally with what they were dealing with. Alissa and Kat go through some serious issues between their Junior and Senior years in high school. I admire their friendship, that no matter what is going on in their lives they always turn to one another instead of deserting each other. There were a few unresolved issues, but I am extremely anxious to see how the rest of the story unfolds and what lies ahead for Alissa and Katherine.

A HUGE thank you for Evelyne for providing me with an ARC copy of this to review for the blog tour <3

This book was a fun, light-hearted YA read.

Everything you get with students whilst growing up and going through college, drama, boys and family issues.

Evelyne writes the characters so beautifully, they are one of a kind and have their own emotions and troubles whilst going through everyone else's.

Bullies, boys, relationships is what we get whilst growing up and this story takes you through this whole process.

The author makes you laugh with the sentimental moments that occur between not only best friends but sisters of the sort, Kat & Alyssa, you cry at the heartbreaking moments that occur also in this book.

You will shout out in frustration as certain points too, well I know I did.

I can't wait to read more, from the second instalment, I want to see where the story leads to after they way it ended, but it was something I was excepting :) I hope we get to see the next chapter in these two beautiful ladies story soon :)

First let me start by saying, I don't typically read young adult. But I took a chance on this one and I am so happy I did. Alissa and Kat the two girls who are juniors in high school are really well written. I got both of them, although, I must say I relate more to Kat and liked her better.

I really don't want to give too much away with my review, but there are swoon-worthy moments, unknown motives, situations you wish would never happen and laughter. As in life situations come together, sometimes all at once, that made this story believable to me.

I wouldn't call this book a cliffhanger, although there are unanswered questions. This book ends as one stage of their life ends and the next one is beginning, so of course, things carry over. I cannot, cannot, cannot wait to read the next one!

Destroying the Wrong

Alissa Sullivan and Katherine Horne are best friends who are looking forward to leaving high School and going off to College. Alissa is the more outgoing one she is flirty, and full of life, she also has a caring boyfriend Matt. While Katherine well, she is more of a loner she is happy spending her time concentrating on her writing, that is until Alissa’s brother Dillion comes home on leave, of course he is a hot guy in uniform so yeah, that would do it. They both try to avoid confrontation by staying out the way of the school bullies, but sometimes things don’t always go to plan.

I loved this book, I couldn’t put it down I just wanted to know what was going to happened next. I was drawn into the characters lives and I felt for them through all the good times and bad. I can’t wait for book 2. This is book 1 of 3. 4 stars

I was lucky enough to get to beta read this awesome book for this amazing author. Both her and the book are just fantastic. The characters are one of a kind with their own emotions and troubles.

I couldn't help but fall in love with Kat. She is totaly best friend material! Oh and I can't forget to mention Dillon *fans self* but hello to my dream man! But then again most of the guys are pretty swoon worthy in their own ways.

This is a book that you can't help but get hooked on. It is a ride through these girls lives that draws you in because of how real it could be. It will have laughing out loud, eyeing your eyes out, and flipping the pages just to see what happens next. A total must read and outstanding beginning!

I was given this book by author for honest review. Alissa Sullivan and Katherine Horne are borderline high school graduates trying to survive the last junior senior year. Alissa is outgoing and boy crazy while Kat is shy and quiet. I have more in common and so feel in love with Kat. She’s picked on and gets into a very hairy situation of which she keeps blaming herself for, however she doesn’t let it get her down or takeover her life. And while Alissa is the best friend and goes to bat for Kat several times I can’t seem to like her as much. This book ran the gauntlet of teenage issues several times over and will pull at your emotions in parts. Thank you Evelyne Stone.

First off, I was given a copy for the authors blog tour. I will say I'm glad I signed up for it. This book was extremely good. I love reading young adult books. This book shows how high school is. With boyfriends, best friends, and bullying. Alissa and Kat are best friends, they both go through alot. They showed their strengths and weaknesses. I don't want to give alot away, because I think this is a most read. It's a very believable story and the emotions between these young ladies felt real. I can't wait until book 2! Great job. <3

I had the honor of doing a BETA read. This is a great story of friendship, good & bad. High school drama, boy trouble & drugs and/or alcohol. I really sunk my teeth into the story as I really didn't have a High School experience. I felt the story was very believable and flowed well. It's been a long time since I have read YA adult and most definitely won't be my last! Can't wait for the next book! Great job, Evelyne Stone!!!!

This is a story about young love, high school bullying and bad things happening to good people.

I enjoyed reading this story. I can definitely go back to high school and relate to the main characters indecisiveness in having a boyfriend, but finding the attention of another intoxicating.

I can say that I am definitely looking forward to reading the next book in this series. Thank you so much for allowing me to read it.

What I really liked about Destroying The Wrong was that I had a good book with meaningful theme. It doesn't dominate the book but I like the bullying aspect and the way the relationships developed. This was my first book by Evelyne Stone but it certainly won't be my last.

Hard hitting and a twist on the usual books you find in the genre. It took me a while before I realize there was a twist in the way and when it came it was well worth waiting for. I really couldn't fault the plot and like the characters as well. I will definitely read another book by the author.
