A red-eyed spiteful imp awaits Hettie in the dilapidated ancestral home. He traps her inside and demands she find his Fae master’s purloined treasure. If she succeeds, she risks becoming a slave of the Fae, if she fails, she remains trapped. Her only hope lies with Declan, the hot but cynical Irish professor who comes from Dublin to investigate.

Luck of the Irish. After his personal and professional lives collapse simultaneously, Prof. Declan Kelly agrees to join his brothers in search of supposed Fae artifacts in South Carolina. Instead he finds a pretty but deranged red-head with an imaginary friend. Or so he thinks until he comes face to face with the arrogant Fae, Riordan. Now Declan must choose. Will he surrender the magic-laden treasure to protect Hettie, or betray her to secure his own future?

I tried, I tried really hard to enjoy this. I had hope for the first 30%, it was funny, snarky and had a solid direction. I loved her wild t-shirt collection and her "go with it" out look on her position. I loved the idea of a leprechaun being the culprit behind all the mishaps that fell on her ancestors. I loved the houses history and the back story on the treasures hidden. It had so much potential and more than enough right there.

What went wrong for me ? The story had more twists, off story side turns than I could keep up with. The racist ghost remarks, didn't fit. The extended family that just keep coming out of the woodwork. I wallowed through their backstory's their horrible lines, without really getting why they were even in the story. Then the most horrendous mother made her appearance. Holy Crackpots, what was that all about ?!??!? The leprechaun turned out to be just a minion for a bigger bad who just flopped into idiot-ville with his cheesy lines actions and stupidity. The this world spun again and our girl of the hour was some special other being, yep a special snowflake. She also had the virginity thrown on her label which never came up as being important to anything in the story it was just mangled into the crazy twirl a whirl. Lastly who where all these people and why, why, why did the author muddle her possibly good story with all the extra fill ?

This book was all about unraveling a tornado in a hurricane for me.

This was a surprisingly good book about a woman who inherits a home with a mischievous leprechaun living in the addict. The story takes some very unexpected turns and gets more complicated than expected. I like the lead character and there are some wonderful southern stereotypes that show up to add lots of color to the story. As far as I know this is a stand alone but am certainly up for more from this author. 4.5 stars

This book is deliciously different and should have a genre all its own: hick-lit. Maggie takes southern stereotypes and turns them on their ear. This is a fast, hilarious read with a southern woman, an Irish hunk and, yes, a very ingenious spook.

Need a fun read for Halloween? This is one you should try.
